I answered that in the post below but I’ll explain it better here,

Basically it’s a metal jaw implant using rods and screws. The first months of jax being awake he got these implants so that he could smile because he was always upset frowning cowering in corners in his room. They believed it would make him look a lot more “amusing” or outgoing as his character was supposed to be. It ended up completely damaging his jaw and face leaving his jaw locked in a smile but gangle managed to fix it slightly he can now move his mouth.

He is based off a calico cat mixed with a tabby, he is a newly domesticated one. the tail you see is actually a scarf he hooks it to his pants but wraps it around his neck for comfort when needed, he isn't hostile towards the alien that houses him, He's also half blind
