people always talk about evil clones like oooh a dark mirror oohh what if you saw what are cruel person you were/are capable of becoming. and well yes but what if you were the evil clone. what if you looked in the mirror and what you saw was so bright it blinded you. what if you had to know exactly how good you could have been.
saw a poll about whether you prefer corruption or redemption arcs and i realized that for me it's not really either, it's a distillation arc: when a character becomes the most intense version of what they could be, everything inessential falling away or being discarded so that only the core remains.
there are so many things on gods green earth that are not platonic but are also not romantic. the erotic, the familial, the unconditional, weird codependency, weird codependency (hatred edition), etc. let us all broaden our horizons
So if every time they stopped to swap out a board on the ship of theseus, theseus went ahead and ate the old one, 1) did he Eat A Ship by consuming it's constituent parts and 2) if so, is the ship he ate more or less of the same ship they set sail with than the ship they finished sailing with? If you had ship of theseus crust pants that were created via your friend taking a big bite out of your pants occasionally and then you had to patch it until the original fabric was all gone, are your pants you wear and the pair of pants your friend ate the Same Pants ?
that didn't happen you're making that up
‘there’s no platonic explanation for this’
buddy you wouldn’t believe what kind of platonic explanations im capable of

Hi CT! A while ago you mentioned how you once trained yourself in a kind of writing where you start going and just don't stop. I forget other details, but I was wondering if you could talk more about it.
What is this writing technique? How is it practiced? And do you have any tips for those who want to start doing it?
Automatic writing! It originally started as an esoteric method, but now it's just a pretty normal writing warm up. Basically, you just write, no stopping, no backspaces. Its an excellent way to build confidence. You know what they say, all writing is rewriting. Automatic writing is a great way to train up the base quality of your first drafts.
What's funny is that's basically how I was trained to write. I can crank out some insanely high daily word counts if I need to. After years of practice, my first drafts are faster and higher quality than most authors 3rd.
Though, it really is just a way to turn out junk and iterate on it faster than most authors. It makes me really good at producing solid C+ work, but it still takes me just as long to make A+ work.
hi, i love dynamics that r like “we make each other worse” on the surface but when u look deeper it is actually just “we understand each other on a level that no one else does and nudge each other out of our typical comfort zone” which just circles around to “we make each other better”. it’s abt the accidental growth just by being in each other’s lives. idk
there's something about characters with doppelgangers and mirror selves and masks and personas that's like catnip to me. something about how it tells you so much about them while telling you nothing at all.
