I found this randomly and was hit with a wave of memories because For All Mankind is actually a pretty interesting show. And I’ve heard news that Apple TV is filming a season 5 that will be released somewhere in late 2025 so what a great time to bring it up again✨.
Like I used to be somewhat interested in it, I watched a bit of it, and it was my go-to answer for when well-meaning people asked what I like to watch because “I like the j edgar movie” is a little off-putting. (it’s hard to convince people that you like the show but you don’t like the actual historical figure in the show with is totally fair).
No I do not know the entire lore and backstory of For All Mankind but I just really admire the cinematography and how the story is structured like the creators reached a wide audience due to their pure dedication to this show 😭
For All Mankind - 1x10 - Forgive me but from the outside looking in you have it pretty good. You’re married to an astronaut. The whole country worships you. Sitting there in your big, beautiful living rooms, listening to your husbands in space on your squawk boxes. So if you’re looking for someone to feel sorry for you, just don’t look here. There are a lot of people who don’t have–I’m sorry. Everything going on the past couple of days, I… It’s okay.
1994 flyer for UK record label Soul Static Sound.
Soul Static Sound was a weird little label. It started out showcasing bands aligned in some way with the riot grrl scene, such as Skinned Teen, Huggy Bear and Kicking Giant. But it also made room for other kinds of bands well-removed from mainstream pop sensibilities, as shown here in a catalog listing releases by New York experimental rock band God Is My Co-Pilot, ragged pop enthusiasts Comet Gain and a couple of Sebadoh offshoots (Unconvinced and Sparkalepsy).
Where it got really weird is when the label turned hard in the mid-to-late nineties away from guitar-based sounds towards post-rock and electronica. (That was somewhat of a trend back then. Even Mr. Indie Pop himself, Mike Schulman, turned his attention from Slumberland Records for a bit to spotlight this newer music via his offshoot label, Drop Beat Records.)
This flyer dates from what I’d consider the heyday of Soul Static Sound, also listing what looks like a few gigs near the bottom. I’d gladly travel back to May 29, 1994 for a chance to see Pram and Prolapse on the same bill.

I am starting uni on September 16th. I am scared, as I don't know anybody (all of my friends are going to other colleges, and studying things far more useful than literary studies and classics).
A couple months back I went on a tour of the humanities faculty building and it is absolutely beautiful, it looks like it could belong in a Donna Tartt novel, or a Shirley Jackson story: creepy, kind of unsettling, old, reminiscent of gothic architecture, beautiful.
I am excited, but also extremely confused, when I was building my timetable I realized none of my classes were on Fridays, and upon further research I found out there is no class on Fridays. I am confused about that.
Anyway, as I do every year before school starts, or, As I've done for the past three years, I will be re-reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I have had to buy a new copy because the one I've had since 2021 is so used the pages fall off. I am currently reading The Goldfinch, also by Donna Tartt.
Have a good academic year, lots of love,
Anna.
