no one will know which one it is.
broo this fucking sucks i'm gonna [remembers suicide jokes are bad for my mental health] murder an old pawnbroker with an axe, act like the most suspicious person in all of st. petersburg while wrestling with my guilty concience, confess to it all within like 72 hours, and be exiled to siberia.
See the Winston/Julia/O’Brien love triangle would never happen because having any kind of queer relationship would never be greenlit by any of those executives (especially if these are the same Netflix executives that decided to make Dorian and Basil SIBLINGS in the new podg adaptation). The homoeroticism would hurt marketability, we can’t have that 😣.
not that there wouldn’t be a love triangle though. They’d probably just write in a new female character.
Everything else about this is painfully accurate.
Just waiting for some braindead capitalists in Hollywood or at Netflix to announce they're producing an adaptation of 1984 "but with a fresh, modern take", and then they're just ageing down all the characters so they can have a dystopian YA story where all the kids get sorted into one of the four ministries and somehow Winston and Julia's relationship gets turned into a love triangle because the producers add O'Brien to the mix for "some drama", and then they have Winston and Julia start a violent rebellion to overthrow the system which is spread out over 4 movies (or 5 seasons on TV), just so they can sell tons of overpriced eyeshadow palettes while an insane amount of "Which Ministry would you be in" quizzes pop up on the internet and ppl make stupid Newspeak TikToks, completely missing the point.
ahem *the soup feeding scene in Crime and Punishment*
you guys ever hear a character say something so gay you sitting there trying to figure out how you were supposed to interpret that platonically?!
reblog to send three ghosts after elon musk
people will clown on me for this because he killed two people but I just love how sweet Rodya is. He is so cruel and mean and uncouth a lot or even most of the time, but then he does things like constantly thoughtlessly give the last of his money away to anyone who needs it more than him, cries when he’s in his psychotic episode and can’t remember who Razumikhin is, has that very sweet and tender moment with Polenka, begs the police to get a doctor for Marmeladov and says he’ll pay for it despite having nothing at all himself. At the same time he is capable of terrible things and is often terrible specifically to the people who love him and want to help, and oscillates wildly between the two. It’s that juxtaposition that holds so much of the interest of the narrative itself for me. A lot of people focus on how awful he is and while that is also honestly such a fun part of his character, that alone is not what makes him compelling to me. I have so much tenderness for his character despite what he’s done because he is just so mentally ill and has been through and been witness to so much hardship. He is not easy to love or understand but it’s so beautiful and sweet that Razumikhin, Sonya, his family and his other friends love him so dearly anyway. I truly think the suffering he is constantly surrounded by is the thing that has driven him to psychosis. Specifically I think of when he goes to the police station in part two and says he has been “shattered by poverty.” In these little moments of sweetness and lucidity towards others, even in the depths of his illness, we can still see the little boy in him who so desperately wanted to help that poor horse.
If your democrat friends start muttering about stolen election conspiracy theories, the time to have a sit down with them and express your concerns is NOW, while you still have a chance to reach them, not 6 months from now when they're fully conspiracy-pilled.
Here's some of the talking points and why they're bullshit:
'10 million votes don't just disappear!' -> Joe Biden's 81 million votes were a statistical outlier, sparked by the recent experience of the Trump presidency. The democrats failed to maintain that sense of urgency, but Harris still got more votes than Hillary Clinton, more than Obama and more than any previous democratic candidate. These numbers are not weird at all.
'The Republicans tried to infiltrate election- and vote counting organizations!' -> yeah, they did, and yet hundreds of independent legal observers didn't see anything go wrong enough to raise any alarms. Independent exit polls are also very consistently similar to the counted votes. Tons of international organizations specialized in this stuff observed the election and didn't see a reason to raise the alarm.
'But I know a dozen democrats whose mail-in votes were not counted!' -> In any election a certain number of votes are registered as invalid because something was wrong with the ballot. In a country the size of the US, that translates to many thousands of votes. The internet allows these people to find each other, creating the false impression that a suspiciously large group of voted was not valid.
'Musk used Star Link to mess with electronic voting!' -> Electronic voting machines are not connected to the internet and dozens of independent media have already debunked this myth. It is absolutely impossible to use Star Link to fake election results.
'There is voter disenfranchisement!' -> This is true. This has always been true, for every election. It's an issue worth talking about but it's not a special secret conspiracy that's unique to this election.
But just as importantly as the facts: sit down with your friend and talk about the anxiety that's behind their conspiracy leanings. Acknowledge their pain and fear. Help them find ways to feel less powerless and regain their sense of agency. Take them to a mutual aid event, involve them in a fundraising event for a marginalized group, invite them to a local community effort. If they spend more time feeling connection and empowerment and less time doom scrolling online, they're far more likely to stay in reality.
