YES THE FACT THAT he knows the stigma around cannibalism and then feeds other people other people just to reassure himself that it is something people shouldn’t be as scared of as they are. The objection people have to human meat is morality but in Hannibal’s mind they are less than people because of their Rudeness or transgressions so there’s no moral dilema. Not that there had to be because yes he did eat his sister and was probably really destroyed by it, so he ate Rude people to justify how he felt about it. AND THEN HE NEEDS TO DO IT TO OTHERS !

But then when Will comes around here is a person whom he wants to let in and so the feeding becomes love. He wants Will to know him and know what he’s done so he gifts Will the good sides of the cannibalism that he’s discovered. There is the murder aspect of it which I think is just a fun side to it, the hunting and viewing yourself as a superior predator and whatnot. But he wants Will to love and know him so he gives Will the one thing that he has. (And nothing bad happens and they drive off into the sunset together.)

I often think about how Hannibal tricked people into cannibalism. it’s really easy to right this off as Hannibal just being sick and twisted, a psychopath, but its clearly something much deeper than that to Hannibal. Not only because he’s lonely and wants someone to understand him, enjoy this with him, but to console himself. He was forced to eat his own sister whom he loved and he enjoyed it. Every time he watches someone else enjoy it he feels righteous, he feels normal.

He does it to prove to himself he’s not a monster. Anyone else would feel the same in his situation. So he forces people over, and over, and over, to the same conclusion.

To comfort the sad little boy inside filled with doubt.

Like many countries, Japan uses a 12-month calendar. The names are very simple. January is literally "Month one", February is "Month two", etc:

So literally, "the long month".

They get him a murder mystery book for his birthday and he spends the next class period talking about why it was wrong and who REALLY did it.

The class does some research, apparently he’s wired up in a weirder way than the class thought. That’s fine, you all like him in a “teacher who hates everyone kind of way”

Then he starts rambling about murders as if he WAS THERE AND DID IT, zones out, regularly gets interrupted by random people and then vanishes off the face of the earth only to reappear as a “murder husband” a few months later.

Good for him, you all knew only a bisexual could be that much of a flaming wreak.

The class is Professor Grahams biggest supporters, they cheer when he gets out of prison and keep up with the news as best they can.

a week or so ago i ran a bunch of polls on what kind of shadowgast picture i should draw for v-day, and y'all have helped me build something really fun! especially with the three winners of the color poll (purple, teal, and orange!). i don't know how much of a 'regular shadowgast' this picture has turned out to be (regular shadowgast are probably studying ancient tomes in a dusty library as we speak), but let's say that i am giving you the plot bunny gift of figuring out the setting of this scene 😏
