A Place to Call Home and its sequel Wayward.
This VN has a soft spot in me because it's one of the earliest furry vn I've read. It is a tragic story in a disguise of slice of life. Often revealing heavy theme in funny dialogue and interaction between characters.
In this we will play as Ludus, a mountain wolf that survived in the street in the middle of war. Taken in the Hauser family after being found by Phileo, another wolf and the adoptive son of the Hauser family. At first the vn plays out as a light hearted family moment of them with the head of the house, Leonhart Hauser, a compassionate lion and a father figure for them. But something will happen and change the trajectory of the story. Maybe their new life after the war isn't as peaceful as they thought it would be.
Wayward is the continuation of APtCH in light novel form, and all I can say is it is more action packed and the vibe is heavier. And there's a twist, a welcome kind of twist despite how despairing things turning out lol. I've saw somewhere in the patreon post HugeCookie (the author) said that he wants to combine both of his work into one Visual Novel. Gosh I can't wait to see it one day!
My verdict is in, APtCH: 9.5/10
EDICTION... is. so. GOOD RAHHHHH!!!!
A dead man that only ever knows pain in his life being revived by a blasphemous healer on a quest to find "true death".
You will read this in the POV of the dead man, travelling through the town (or at least the remainder of it) in a journey to help the healer to rewrite the Ediction so you all can get to the "true death". I love how throughout the story more lore on the place and Ramla's (the dead man) former life being played out as memories and gives more context to the story. Very tragic i almost cried LMAO.
And for me the most intriguing part in the story is the faith theme. How blind faith limits the ability for people to think critically and being open to consider outside perspectives.
And the way story played out really makes you feel like every choices you make are crucial and heavy, like a burden. Makes you really hooked into it fer reeelllll. For a one shot vn this is really worth your time.
Anyway, my verdict is in! *Drumroll*
EDICTION, 9/10
