I love how the Wasp King is introduced as this regal, imposing, super powerful figure you cannot beat and then the further into the game you go after that point, the more you realise everything about your first impression of him was a lie.
The title of “Wasp King” is already suspicious given that wasps don’t have kings and the game is usually more accurate than that with the other kingdoms. And then you have confirmation that he indeed is not an actual king but usurped the queen’s throne (also when you buy his theme from Samira you see it’s literally titled The Usurper)
Then it’s heavily implied he’s not an actual wasp either
And you find out that actually, once you have some protection against fire, he is indeed beatable, implying he probs was a pretty average bug when not relying on fire magic
And when all is said and done and you look through his bestiary entry, you find out his name is literally a pun on “hoax“
I’ve commented before on the whole symbolism behind him still wearing the rags he had from before under his royal cloak. Like royalty is a disguise he put on to hide the nobody that he was.
Hoaxe never got any respect as himself so he made up his Wasp King persona to force everyone into respecting him no matter the cost
Had to check and its been ~3 months since my last canonical ask (forgot to sign one)
Sooo how we thinking about Irving and the Scrybes interacting? Like it makes sense they would've done so but also Wild innit
-🥊
Oh it’s absolutely WILD to me, especially because I cannot imagine Irving would get along with any of them. He’d appreciate their devotion to the game, sure—no problem with them whining about reassignments, so less work for him—but… they’re still The Scrybes From Inscryption. He’d get annoyed with Magnificus’s insistence on “perfection” (which, in Irving’s eyes, is completely inconsequential but he knows better than to tell Magnificus he doesn’t know what he’s talking about), frustrated with Leshy’s pedantic mannerisms (though at least Leshy keeps to himself), irked by P03’s not-so-hidden intent to bring all of Inscryption somewhere else beyond the Gameworks, and Grimora… honestly I think he’d just find Grimora unnerving.
The James Cobb situation must have happened pretty early on in Inscryption’s development though—I can’t imagine that Irving would be able to send anyone in or out once the floppy disk had been buried (not to mention that Leshy had taken over during that point, putting yet another barrier in addition to the several feet of dirt).
Inscryption to me seems like the one corner of the Gameworks universe that no one really wants to talk about, they’ve just heard absolutely bonkers rumors about the people there and have to suppress a shudder. Except the rumors are 100% true and oftentimes worse because no one in Inscryption can behave.
shout out to disabilities which only exist in fantasy.
Robots who carry around heavy battery packs because there inbuilt ones can no longer hold enough charge.
Shark girls who have pumps over one of there gills because they can't continuously swim fast enough to receive enough water through there gills.
bird girls with prosthetic wings.
creature wearing climbing gear because they were born without the ability to telepathically fly around.
Peridot
non-telepaths (in a world of only telepaths) constantly having to explain to angry people berating them because they assumed that the person is a telepath.
They both add a depth of realism to a universe and another perspective for abled bodied audiences to understand what its like to be disabled and are also fun.
Happy valentines for the Milkshake/Trinkets nation!!

I do wish there were more species under Hymenoptera that produced honey in the sheer abundance that a select few honey bees do so we didn't have to rely on them for the harvesting of honey, or even that just keeping other, native insects in such a way that is beneficial to those species and the wildlife around them was more viable for someone to just Do.
Really, I love the idea of beekeeping conceptually as something that can keep a particular species surviving and actually thriving, but it's only fully ecologically viable in the locations where those species... Are from. Otherwise the honey bees (typically European honey bees, Apis mellifera) will create an imbalance in other ecosystems, outcompeting native bees (and other nectar and pollen feeders!) and spreading diseases to them. They're undeniably important to crops, I'm not saying they're just so horribly bad, I love honeybees the same as any other Hymenopteran, but unfortunately often people feel like honey bees are the only option when that is just not the case.
