Of course not followed by Quinn gesturing over her shoulder. Kit didn’t know what to believe. His face crumpled in confusion. “Uhh no,” he answered. “I mean, it was a beach ball so it’s not like I’m injured. It hurt just a bit.” Whoever whacked that ball had some serious fire in their palms. He continued to rub the back of his head for a moment more before dropping his hand to his side. “But uh, hey,” he greeted. “Are you…” Having a good time? No, that wasn’t the right thing to ask. “You’re here,” he decided to say instead. A bit surprised Quinn showed up at all.
—quinn tittered. "no shit, sherlock." you're here. she'd forgotten how completely awkward kit could be. he got away with it, too; a puppy transfigured into a six-foot-something beefcake. if she ever let herself, quinn would miss the friendship they had struck up when he first arrived. but she was quinn morrison and she didn't do that. at least, that's what she told herself. "got to be. what if your girl shows up?" she asked with a bitter rhetoric.

The pool felt amazing. It had been a long since he’d been swimming. It never hurt to get some exercise in so he began doing some laps, dodging any of the other swimmers. He breached the water, shaking the excess of like a dog. Movement caught his eye nearby the ledge. Why weren’t they swimming? Feeling social, Booker swam towards the ledge, propping his arms on the side, looking up at the person. “I think you’re suppose to get in the water at a pool party.” He said with a cheeky grin. “If you need a push, I’m more than willing.”
the closest quinn was getting to the pool was to sit on the edge, staring down her nose at the hullaballoo of her classmates in the water. for all their youthful anarchy she knew if her cousin were to walk through those doors this minute they would all stand to attention like the obedient dogs they were. save a few, perhaps. she was off in her own fault-finding thoughts when she realised one of those very whelps was talking to her. her eyes narrowed. "lay a hand on me and you'll be in a jail cell quicker than you can say attempted assault."
*crushes my emotions with my bare hands* as I was saying,

Booker recognized the loathing in her eyes. The prickly ones are always the most powerful. While not the queen herself, a Morrison still holds a certain amount of sway. He smiled, choosing to ignore her bad manners. Booker raised his hands in defence. “It was merely a suggestion. I thought a dip might make things more fun.” Or remove that frown went unsaid. Quinn being off by herself was an odd sight at a party as big as this one. Booker never missed an opportunity to schmooze and something told him this would be more difficult than normal. “Not the social type, I see. More of small gathering type?” He questioned.
one eyebrow quirked up. "more of a party-when-appropriate type. my cousin's missing. for all we know, in danger." quinn pulled her sandalled foot out of the way as a small wave rippled through the pool towards them. "it leaves a bad taste in the mouth — no?" she stared at his eyes as if daring him to disagree.

“Here, try this,” Parisa encouraged, passing a cup to Quinn as she sat down next to the blonde. “Sprite, lemonade, and grenadine. I wish these events catered more to us,” she mentioned with a pout, at least glad that Quinn was also interested in mocktails. “You look stunning, by the way. Purple is an excellent choice.” The color of royalty, a subtlety that may have gotten to Greer had she been at her own birthday party. “It’s certainly a choice to have a party on a school night, but I guess Greer would’ve had it no other way. Are you planning on taking a dip in the pool?”
she took the drink but hesitated putting it to her lips, ever wary of accidental spiking, until parisa confirmed its ingredients. the pair often gravitated towards each other at events like this. they both abstained from alcohol and neither asked those irritating questions on the matter of each other. the scent of pomegranate and lemons flirted with quinn’s nose and she took a sip. she thought sprite and lemonade were essentially the same but it tasted pleasant enough.
the blonde got more comfortable against the velvet two seater, not once questioning the mystery of how it ended up in the natatorium. “the birthday girl isn’t here to persuade me,” quinn answered, a little spite in her tone. “so that would be a no. please don’t tell me you are… god knows if anyone’s showered.”

Bonk! The impact of whatever that was knocked Kit’s head forward, the sudden movement uncomfortable on his neck. “Ow…” From the sound of the thump, he was guessing what assaulted him was one of those beach balls people were throwing around. His hand sought the place where it struck, fingers rubbing at the base of his skull. Who the heck? He turned around. A look of surprise bloomed on his features when he saw who the culprit was. Or at least strongly might have been. “Quinn, was that you?” Even under the influence of something, Kit knew to be doubtful. Quinn wasn’t exactly the type after all.
she blinked incredulously in response to kit's query and then, for dramatic effect, turned to look behind herself while laying her palm over her sternum. "who — me?" the blonde continued, "of course not." being the ever-confident liar she was, quinn took the hand from her chest and used it to point behind her shoulder. "i'm sure it came from over there. are you injured?"

instead of denying, he shrugs at her — he’s never denied the attraction he’s had to her before. to her face, at least… in front of greer ? well, he had to keep up appearances, no ? plus, the ongoing illusion of what’s going on between greer and link ?? would be shattered, if he publicly went for her cousin. “ it’s human nature, isn’t it ? why are we constantly breaking the rules otherwise ? besides that, though, you hold your head up high. that’s attractive. ” he responds, leaning back against the wall after exhaling his smoke into the running water. “ well, you’re in this locker room alone.. in the middle of the party. planning a costume change or hiding ? can’t be anything else. ”
she smiled coyly. "i was waiting for someone interesting to show up, and they did, but i'm appalled by your lack of imagination." quinn stubbed her half-smoked cigarette out on the white tile; it hissed against the moisture as it died. before she could think herself out of it, quinn nimbly swung herself over his lap so that she was straddled on top. the skin of her thighs met his jeans and she hoped she had picked the right moment to make a move. as her hands weaved lightly behind link's neck, she looked into his eyes and thought of all the late nights he left her on read. all the contemptible craving, despite her better judgement. "don't you know how much fun a woman can have while everyone thinks she's alone?"
