911 HIATUS REWATCH One Scene Per Episode - 'Merry Ex-Mas
I’m actually really mad that we didn’t get a single scene of Colin stress eating his feelings and crying into a biscuit

I don't often do this, because I try to avoid discourse in fandom and sometimes you just don't vibe with a character. It happens.
But I keep seeing these horrible and, quite frankly, very wrong and disrespectful takes on Eddie Diaz' character. And I can't just sit here and ignore them anymore.
I cannot and will never understand why people don't like Eddie.
I've read some posts and comments earlier about people disliking Eddie and... really? Eddie is boring? He doesn't get interesting storylines? He's just a prop for Buck and his storylines?
Are we watching the same show here?
Eddie is, by far, one of the most interesting characters on 911. The man has had one trauma after the other piled up on him, but still he keeps going. Why? Because of the one thing that matters more to him than life itself: Christopher.
As a single mother myself, I can relate. The struggle to want to give your child everything, to do everything for them, even if it comes at the cost of your own mental and emotional well-being? It is very real. I cannot tell you how many times I end up crying to myself at night, blaming myself because I wasn't able to stop the outside world from hurting my son. And you have to do it all by yourself as well. There is no one there to share the burden with, to share the heartache with. It's tough and it's real.
Eddie's storylines are intricate and nuanced and based in reality. They aren't necessarily the biggest and loudest storylines, but they still matter to people who can relate to him. People like me.
Now, 911 is guilty of showing a lot of important Eddie moments from someone else's point of view. That is true. Especially Buck's POV. The shooting comes to mind, even a part of his breakdown and more recently Eddie's friendship with Tommy. He made a bro-friend and seemed so happy and carefree, but since we saw it from Buck's POV, we can't fully trust this image.
So, I think that is why some people see him as just a prop in Buck's story. But it's much more complex than that. Buck stepped inside Eddie's world without complaint. He helped him out from day one by introducing Eddie to Carla. For the first time, Eddie is no longer alone in life. There is someone there who understands him and his love for Chris. He can safely rest and trust that Buck will be there to step in if necessary. He actually went ahead and put it in his will. Eddie loves the way that Buck loves his son. And the show is still using that bond to date. We saw Buck and Eddie in conversation about Chris, Buck talking to Chris, Buck being jealous of Chris thinking Tommy was cool...
I don't know what the future will bring for Eddie, but I desperately want and need him to be happy. And yes, I do think the narrative will eventually lead him to Buck. His happiness has always been intricatelly linked to Christopher. The way they keep weaving in Christopher in Buck's storyline? The way Eddie keeps being inserted in Buck's bisexuality storyline? These are some of the many reasons that give me absolute certainty that Buddie is in the works.
In conclusion? Just stop hating on Eddie Diaz folks. It's not a good look on you.
i think it's been said before but i can't find the post so i'm saying it again: one of my absolute FAVORITE things about buddie is that so many of the little things you find in fanfics that you would expect to be fully fanon are actually ripped straight from canon. buck taking chris to the zoo? season 5, episode 2. buck making cookies for chris's bake sale? season 6, episode 13. buck and eddie sharing a locker? this was shown in multiple episodes of season 4. the diaz house being more of a home to buck than his own apartment? it's canon that buck fell asleep within seconds on eddie's couch after struggling to get comfortable in his own place.
then!!!!! there's the classic elf scene where someone canonically thought that buck and eddie were a couple and that chris was their son. and of course the concept of buck being as a coparent to chris that's been prevalent ever since that infamous scene — at first, it was ours, but then season 4, episode 14 smacked us over the head with the will reveal and the fact that eddie diaz himself completely and totally agrees with us!!! like...i don't know if i'm phrasing this right, but there's just. so many beautiful little things about these two that are normally restricted to either traditional romantic love stories — or fanfic, in the case of most non canon ships — and yet we get to see them happen over and over and over again w buddie on our screens.
The fact that David Tennant could have asked for the opening skit to be all about Dr. Who (allegedly his most broadly known work and also the most recently aired) and bring Catherine Tate or any other celebrity friend as his guest star…
Yet he still chose to do it about a very niche work like Staged, prominently featuring Michael Sheen, while subjecting the entire industry (not just Britain media) to their weirdly intimate dynamic…
Just wow. Power move. They’re a set, do not separate.
Imagine if Merlin just decided to quit being Arthur’s servant one day.
Arthur would just lose it and spend every waking moment figuring out ways to spend time with Merlin and get him to take his job back.
Of course he starts by offering Merlin a raise, but Merlin can’t be bought.
So, he decides to fake an interest in medicinal herbs just so he can go into the forest and hike for hours with Merlin.
He tries every old wives tale to catch a cold and when he finally does, he insists upon being treated in the physician’s chambers. For days he is laid up on a crappy cot but Merlin is always there. Arthur loves being cared for by Merlin and eventually Gaius catches on and kicks him out. “There are actual sick people, m’lord.”
Arthur tries to bribe Merlin with new clothes and fancy foods. Merlin doesn’t budge and people begin to think he’s courting Merlin.
Which doesn’t sound all too horrible to Arthur. He changes his goal and begins inviting Merlin to picnics and to dine his chambers, not as his servant but as a friend and potential suitor.
im thinking about the “peeta forced katniss into their relationship” take because. it irritates me.
first of all, no he didn’t. she had the choice not to engage with him further and she chose to do so. yes her life was on the line — but it wasn’t peeta’s confession that put her in that position, it was the capitol’s use of it for further entertainment. peeta’s intent with his confession was only give her an edge in the competition, not to somehow force her to fall in love with him in a situation in which he fully expected to die. going into the hunger games with the motivation of finding love would be a truly insane thing to do. peeta genuinely believes she can win, so he’s doing all he can do help her, both out of legitimate love and admiration for her, but also out of an honest belief in her survival skills. he’s not trying to date her; he’s trying to save her life.
but also like, even disregarding all the outside pressure, he had legitimate reason to believe she liked him back? because even before his confession she: talks about watching him in the market (my fav scene because like, okay katniss) and noticing his wrestling score, she kisses him on the cheek, she gets offended when he asks to be coached separately — it’s clear that even before peeta says he likes her that katniss is interested in him. obviously she rationalizes all of this because she’s katniss, but if we were watching this from anyones perspective but her own, we’d probably assume she liked him? i mean why does haymitch say “well well well” after they talk each other up? because he NOTICED. that’s where the star crossed lovers strategy begins. not with peetas confession but with haymitch watching them hype each other up and being like “oh damn they like each other” and haymitch being smart enough to realize that only genuine love can defeat the capitol!!!
anyway obviously i do not believe k/p was ever a one sided thing, not even before the games. peeta couldnt have forced her to like him by doing anything because she already did like him, she just didn’t know it. they both admired each other from afar and that’s why things “would have happened anyway” as katniss tells us. the games didn’t force them to be together, they made it difficult to sort out what was REAL OR NOT REAL! and what does katniss tell us in the very last line? it was all REAL.
