Serena preferred the night; not just to hunt but to roam. It was somehow less lonely than walking amongst the activities of humans in their waking hours. Each breath, each heartbeat, marching them closer to an ultimate demise. The inevitability of it all made them cling to every precious, fleeting, moment. Death was a mistress none of them wanted to face until they were ready. She came too soon for some of them and they knew it possible. Sometimes Serena herself had aided her cause.
No, the night was for those others who had slipped the grasp of death well beyond their time. Who had seen death claim countless humans while she let them continue on. Serena may have been half human but death did not seem to be a condition of her existence. Still, she liked to dance with her, testing the limitations of her immortal side with the many vices that sent humans to an early grave. It was her own, private experiment. One her father was not in control of for once.
The bar had stuck out like a sore thumb, the only one with the lights still on at the hour. Wandering inside, the hybrid assesses the punky interior with slight amusement. It looked like exactly the kind of bar a human would assume a vampire owned, and she can smell one behind the bar. Swinging herself onto the stool, she rests an elbow on the bar, eyeing him with curiousity. "You could offer a paying customer a drink." Pulling some cash from her leather jacket, a sharp, manicured nail slides the generous offering of bills ( courtesy of the nights earlier dinner ) toward him with a sweetly smile. The hybrid knows a vampire may be far less fooled by her mask than a human bartender. Still, it was habit.

"Last call was hours ago," Malakai commented, barely glancing up at the newcomer as he dried the glass in his hand with a towel. Eyes shifted to the clock then back to his work. Closing had been hours ago too. Did he forget to lock the door again? Anyways...this had to be a vampire, most people would be home already, sleeping to help put off tomorrow's hangover.
There was a soft tinkling as the glass was slid into place to hang over the bar with the rest of them, followed by a dull whirring as he used the barmaid to scrub another glass. Eyes flicked to his guest one more time than down to the three-compartment sink. Scrub, rinse, sanitize, dry. He continued, "Is there something I can do for you? Call you a cab?"

❛ oh great, it's you again. ❜
❛ you? kill me? that's funny. ❜
❛ for being someone you hate, i'm sure on your mind a lot. ❜
❛ you're the last person i wanted to see, actually. ❜
❛ do us both a favor. stay away from me. ❜
❛ you really are an asshole, you know that? ❜
❛ i'm the asshole? what does that make you then? ❜
❛ sometimes i think you must hate me. ❜
❛ i thought you said you never wanted to see me again. ❜
❛ if you want me to go, then you have to tell me to leave. ❜
❛ well, someone's cranky today. ❜
❛ well, someone needs to shut the fuck up. ❜
❛ just stay out of my way. ❜
❛ of all the idiots in the world, i'm stuck with you. ❜
❛ what is it you want this time? ❜
❛ sometimes i wonder if you're in love with me. ❜
❛ do you honestly think this is easy for me? ❜
❛ why would i ever want to be friends with you? ❜
❛ can we please just talk? ❜
❛ there is nothing for us to talk about. ❜
❛ you can yell at me later. just let me help you. ❜
❛ touch me, and you're dead. ❜
❛ oh, so now you care? ❜
❛ there is something deeply wrong with you. ❜
❛ i know i'm the last person you probably want to see, but... ❜
❛ you don't think we could be friends, do you? ❜
❛ i'm tired of fighting against you. ❜
❛ don't pretend you give a shit about me. ❜
❛ you're an idiot, but... i trust you. ❜
❛ oh, don't be cute. ❜
❛ wait, did you just say that i'm cute? ❜
❛ we're not good for each other. ❜
❛ if i say yes, will you shut up? ❜
❛ don't you have to be stupid somewhere else? ❜
❛ maybe we should kiss just to break the tension. ❜
❛ i'm sorry i can't turn off my feelings as easily as you. ❜
❛ maybe there's a universe out there where we're friends. ❜
❛ how can you be so smart yet so dumb at the same time? ❜
❛ don't think this changes anything between us. ❜
❛ you look ridiculous in that outfit, by the way. ❜
❛ if you die, i'll kill you. ❜
❛ is that a challenge? ❜
❛ ah, so you're not heartless after all. ❜
❛ i don't think i've ever seen you smile. ❜
❛ you never cared about me, so why now? ❜
❛ why didn't you kill me when you had the chance? ❜
❛ i don't even remember why we started fighting. ❜
❛ i don't have time for distractions right now. ❜
❛ you're not as bad as everyone says you are. ❜
❛ enemies make the best lovers, you know. ❜

❛ how is he holding up? ❜
❛ let me know if it gets too bad. ❜
❛ thanks for doing this. ❜
❛ you weren’t going to do anything, i could see that. ❜
❛ it helps if you think of them as people. ❜
❛ she’s really not even pretty. ❜
❛ oh, good luck, idiot! ❜
❛ may i walk you to your next class? ❜
❛ and no reason to rush through the experience. ❜
❛ he’s almost young enough to be my son. ❜
❛ how hard is it to sit through a subject you already know? ❜
❛ what the hell happened to you? ❜
❛ i’ll miss you, no matter how short a time you’re gone. ❜
❛ you will do the right thing. ❜
❛ you’re going home, aren’t you? ❜
❛ but you’re not staying here. ❜
❛ don’t be a gentleman. ❜
❛ i make you uncomfortable. ❜
❛ you’re a thousand times lovelier than the stars. ❜
❛ don’t let my stubbornness undermind your confidence. ❜
❛ i’m not used to rejection. ❜
❛ succubus. ❜
❛ when you showed up here, i thought that… ❜
❛ i feel horrible for toying with your expectations. ❜
❛ i’d prefer not to talk about it. please forgive my reserve. ❜
❛ i think that you will go back. no matter what it is… or who it is… that haunts you. you’ll face it head-on. you’re the type. ❜
❛ you know you’re far too good for me. ❜
❛ i just… haven’t found what i’m looking for yet. ❜
❛ annoying, isn’t it? ❜
❛ why don’t you punch through the wall while you’re at it. ❜
❛ you look sick, brother mine. ❜
❛ what is it about her? ❜
❛ i don’t want to move yet. i don’t want to start over. we’re almost out of high school, finally. ❜
❛ i’m ninety-three percent sure that nothing bad will happen if he goes to class. ❜
❛ perhaps you should not have come here. perhaps you should go back where you belong. ❜
❛ i hadn’t realized it was that close… ❜
❛ nobody died, right? ❜
❛ or maybe you kill her. you wouldn’t be the first one to mess up. no one would judge you too harshly. sometimes a person just smells too good. i’m impressed you’ve lasted this long. ❜
❛ has any one person ever smelled better to you than the rest of them? much better? ❜
❛ you’re going to make her so unhappy. ❜
❛ there are many right ways, and many wrong ways, though, aren’t there? ❜
❛ i think something is changing. your life seems to be at a crossroads. ❜
❛ you did the right thing. and it couldn’t have been easy for you. i’m proud of you. ❜
❛ she knows there’s something… wrong with me. ❜
❛ she hit her head - well, i did that. i knocked her to the ground fairly hard. she seems fine. ❜
❛ it’s been an interesting day for you, hasn’t it? ❜
❛ she’s pretty, even all messed up. not my usual type. ❜
❛ all yours, handle it as you think best. ❜
❛ i’m surprised to see you in class. i heard you were involved with that awful accident this morning. ❜
❛ try not to make more of a spectacle of yourself. you’re in enough trouble as it is. ❜
❛ damn, kid, you’re a mess. ❜
❛ bite me. ❜
❛ idiot! lunatic! moron! jackass! selfish, irresponsible fool! ❜
❛ stop that! it can’t happen this way. i won’t let it. ❜
❛ i didn’t mean to put any of you at risk. it was thoughtless, and i take full responsibility for my hasty action. ❜
❛ are you going to fix it? ❜
❛ we’ve left rumors behind us before. ❜
❛ it doesn’t have to be any big production. the girl hit her head today. so maybe that injury turned out to be more serious than it looked. ❜
❛ yes, we all know how proficient an assassin you are. ❜
❛ it’s not personal. it’s to protect us all. ❜
❛ i’d very much like for our family to be worth protecting. the occasional… accident or lapse in control is a regrettable part of what we are. if we make exceptions to protect ourselves, we risk something much more important. we risk losing the essence of who we are. ❜
❛ she won’t pay for my mistake. i won’t allow that. ❜
❛ she should have died today. i would only set that right. ❜
❛ don’t bother telling me you can protect yourself. i already know that. ❜
❛ she’s kinder than most of these cannibals. ❜
❛ what a dork. ❜
❛ should have kept my mouth shut. ❜
❛ stop being an idiot. if you can. ❜
❛ what’s the point in getting to know her if i’m just going to kill her? ❜
❛ ha. caught you by surprise. that’s a first. ❜
❛ i’ll bet mrs. goff thinks you’re on drugs, you’ve been so erratic lately. ❜
❛ this is getting weird. ❜
❛ if you say one word, i will put you down like a dog. ❜
❛ this is going to work out for the best. you deserve happiness. fate owes you that. ❜
❛ love doesn’t always come in convenient packages. ❜
❛ you, out of everyone on this planet, are perhaps best equipped to deal with such a difficult quandary. ❜
❛ you are the best and the brightest of us all. ❜
❛ hasn’t anyone ever told you not to play with your food? ❜
❛ that was a strong one. i could almost feel it when he clawed me. ❜
❛ you’re such a child. ❜
❛ no one said you had to fight your food. ❜
❛ life is hard all around, isn’t it? ❜
❛ honestly, she seems like more work than any pretty face is worth. ❜

Her father had acquired this place years ago, the perfect hunting ground for his experiments. Full of unsuspecting participants already willing to offer themselves up to a vampire without a fight. Though those who became a part of his studies certainly became less willing once they realised what was growing inside them. When they eyed the hybrid as she moved through the club few of them understood they were looking at a version of the demigod her father intended to replace humanity with.
The lawyer now sniffing around the club had been getting too close for Joham's liking, too close to uncovering the missing woman who had frequented the place. Her body lay in the incinerator at his lab, another failed experiment. Another woman who had looked at Serena in fear and confusion as her body gave out just as her mother's had over a century ago. This one had called Serena a "cold little bitch", which the hybrid supposed was partly true. Her responses to this kind of thing had become cold, methodical almost. She could no longer afford to grow attached to humans, she had learnt that long ago. Especially not ones who met their fate at the hands of her father. The disappointment if he saw her show any emotion toward them was enough to paralyse any emotion out of her.
Though perhaps not enough. She clutches the pendant she'd slipped off the woman's body before her father had gotten to her, turning it over in her fingers inside the pocket of her jacket. It wasn't unusual for her to keep a token, something to remind herself. Of what exactly....she wasn't sure. A fleeting impulse has her wanting to hand it over to the lawyer perched uncomfortably in his booth as she approaches. Evidence for his case. But she resists, keeping it firmly pocketed. Perhaps it was a test, her father did like to do that. Even though he had no way of knowing what she held, he was always testing her anyway. She had to remain strong, loyal. His dutiful eldest.
Slipping into the booth opposite him, Serena eyes the vampire with a curiousity. The ones still play pretending human fascinated her, a reminder of a distant time when she'd also been fool enough to try such things. Crimson lips turn into a small smirk at his reaction to the drink. Such an odd thing, so out of place with his nature. "Jacob, wasn't it?" The hybrid leans in closer, browns intently locked on his. "I heard you've been asking questions about my family's club. I'm sure you understand that the privacy of our patrons is something we take very seriously. So I trust you have a good reason for asking them?"
open to: m/f/anyone plot: Jacob is a lawyer working a case for someone & is meeting someone in a club for vampires getting vital information to win his case & help his client. hmu if you’d like to plot more! connection: worker or owner of the club, another vampire or supernatural, old client he helped in the past, a regular informant. either way the person he’s meeting for info.
Jacob didn’t make it a habit of coming to places like this, blood clubs, places where his kind could feed freely from willing participants. The scent of blood was thick in the air, at least, to him, but he never had quite gotten over the humanity in him, even after all these centuries. It was dim lit and gothic, a stereotype if anyone asked him but it wasn’t like he had much to go on. He wasn’t exactly a social vampire, least of all with his own kind. Music pulsed to drown out the noises of talk, laughter, and pleasure. Over on the dance floor, a good distance from Jacob was, masses of bodies writhed together in dance and sensuality. It flowed through the place, clung just as heavy in the air as the scent of blood and sex. This was a dark place intended for dark pleasures. Certainly somewhere Jacob would never frequent but he was no stranger to such places, he had indulged in his carnal desires before.
Jake shifted in his seat at a booth tucked in a corner as far away from everyone else as possible. He’d been holding his breath, not that he needed to fill his lungs with oxygen anymore anyway, it helped with the overwhelming scents if he didn’t inhale them. There was a glass in front of him, watered down from the melting ice, and he rotated the glass in place absently as his dark eyes slowly scanned every dark crevice and face he could see. Searching impatiently. He didn’t want to be here. It was clear in the rigid way he sat, decades of etiquette training from a mother that always felt appearances were everything. Jacob was uncomfortable but he was there for a reason and if the tip was correct, this was important information he needed to progress in his case. Not only in court but in helping the family as well.
His senses flared with the warning of someone approaching and Jacob snapped his gaze over to whomever it was, his face was void of anything other than mild tension. Clearing his throat Jake took a gulp of his drink, the watered down substance doing little to hide the strength of the liquor and blood inside. He almost grimaced but swallowed quickly, setting the drink back down and stirring it with the tiny straw. There was a sharpness to his gaze as he watched the other, a shine to them not quite natural but nothing like the glowing eyes scattered among the other bodies around the club. Jacob was watchful, wary, intrigued but certainly just wanted to get what he was there for and get the hell out.
