i just think it’s so brilliant that the show about emotionally stunted codependent losers is also the longest running live action american sitcom.
i don’t think i’ll ever be able to articulate this fully but. they could have very easily made something short and cynical. something strictly satirical. something like veep, or arrested development, which, don’t get me wrong, are both shows i love, but they are shows where the audience just laughs at the main characters’ misery. and yeah, most of it is that. most of it is traumatized kids who aren’t kids anymore drinking themselves to death in a dive bar. but it’s also mac coming out to his dad after so many years of shame and dennis finally getting something for valentine’s day and dee telling a joke that actually lands and charlie alone in the rain until he isn’t and all of them walking off of that mountain together with their arms wrapped around each other. sometimes it’s that. but you only notice those brief, saccharine moments when you’ve been watching something long enough — living with something long enough — to do so, and suddenly you’re crying on the couch because dennis bought mac a dog even though dennis hates dogs. i would take something breathing, something with empathy over something bitingly satirical and efficient and short any day of the week.
there is probably nothing in that crate outside, but hey, let’s look in it anyway. there’s a stain on this wall and it looks like a miracle.
Macdennis + strangers
i wonder what's the instagram reels middle aged conservative sunny fan take on frank vs. russia. like what justification do they have for dennis doing all that. 'oh giving your best friend/roommate of twenty years prostate orgasms to get him out of the apartment (because he totally wouldn't do anything dennis asked of him anyway) is just boys being buddies. super normal friend behavior.' like what
You know, since it's Pride Month (and also I miss them), I feel like reminding everyone how fucking important Ruby and Sapphire were.
The way they were both unambiguously conceived as queer characters and let the writers make an established character queer retroactively. The fact that as soon as they share the screen, they immediately show how in love they are, without any ambiguity to please the censors, and they do that almost every episode they're in.
How their relationship isn't always 100% perfect, and they do conflict and fall out, but make up in the end because they genuinely love each other. How they were allowed to be iconic parts of the show, not just through being the focus of two of its most famous songs (Stronger Than You and Here Comes A Thought) but also through the book version of The Answer.
The fact they got the first gay kiss...
...and the first gay wedding in the history of kid's TV.
The way their reception showed networks that yes, people do enjoy media with queer characters, and so they contributed to many other series with prominent LGBTQ characters getting greenlit.
I honestly don't think it's exaggerating to say they're among the most important queer characters in the history of fiction for all that. And people need to say it more, and demand stuff like them more.
Finished a piece for the TGWDLM Reprise fake Playbill Mini-Zine Collab that @riveracheron is putting together!
I saw that the Ad for Spankoffski's Heart and Sole was open and jumped on it!
I really wanted an excuse to draw college age Ted (including the early Starkid Era Joey Headband) and then I had the idea that the Spankoffski's would want their ad to include their kids. I feel like at the time, Ted would've used this as a bragging point, and Pete would be forever embarrassed. In my own headcannon, the grammar mistake of Women's Shoe originates from this Ad and is a running inside joke between the Spankoffski brothers, which is why he says it in the Beanie's scene in NPMD (in the Digital Ticket version.)
This was fun and I would totally do something silly like this again :)
ok mac...
What is this? A crossover episode???
Should you let your dog on the couch?
