It's always "How dare Eurylochus call Odysseus captain after mutinying" and never "How dare Odysseus call his crew his brothers after sacrificing six of them to a sea monster."
Like, the latter strikes me as far more absurd. In Eurylochus' case, its the equivalent of reaching out for help after jumping off a cliff; he's afraid because he just did something that would seal his fate, and he's reaching out to the captain he once knew, the one that was clever enough and cared enough to get them through 10 years of war without any of their lives lost.
In Odysseus' case, he's just sacrificed six men to Scylla, and then when his crew is rightfully upset about it, he hits them with the "My brothers...why?" like tf do you mean "why" bro š.
Eurylochus calling Odysseus captain is a representation of the love he still has for him. Odysseus calling the crew his brothers is to me, a representation of the intense self centeredness of Odysseus in this situation, where he's too focused on getting home and ensuring his own happiness to understand that if you show that you're willing to callously send people to their deaths, then they arent your brothers anymore.
I was thinking about Othertale and what a meeting between these two bone heads would be like... Then I remembered this song:
I say theory because I canāt think of a better word atm. I know this is obviously not the intention of the text. I am merely taking the information we were given and twisting it to fit my sick agenda. Itās what bill would have wanted (Well maybe not quite like this but lol fuck him anyway).
So! Obviously billford was the star of the show here, but as I learned a little bit more about the codes I didnāt just learn what they say. I learned that all the stancest ship fuel is contained within them, and even tho itās not much in comparison, what we did get is pretty profound!
There was a brand new code alphabet introduced in this book that weāve never seen before. This cute little bros code that Stan and Ford invented when they were kids. Besides this image, this code is used only three times in the entire book.
The first (and insanely subtle) instance is on this page where ford concludes that Stan is the only person he can turn to after bill drives him to his breaking point:
Itās very small and hard to make out. On the window amid the equations.
It says: āmiss youā
Pertaining the contents of this page, my first thought was that this is probably meant to be interpreted as a message directed at Fiddleford. But that wouldnāt really make sense given how itās presented. This wasnāt written in after the fact. It couldnāt be directed at Fiddleford, theyāre standing together arm in arm. Itās a code only Ford and Stan know, and this pic wasnāt taken long after they separated. This message must be about Stanley.
Ford uses the code on the next page, the last lost journal page where heās talking about reaching out to Stan. It translates to: āhave I been too harsh all along?ā
This is so gut wrenching to me because heās never written in this code literally anywhere else in the entire journal. And he says this vulnerable little line about Stanley in this code he probably hasnāt used in years but still remembers, in this code that only Stan would be able to understand besides himself.
The last usage is by Stan. Because the rest of the family is watching him write this, to the rest of them it just looks like heās censoring his cussing for the kidsā sakes. But to ford, stanās slyly writing him a little message that only he can seeā¦
And what does it say?
āLove ya broā
Fordās arc in this book is realizing he should put his attention and concern in the ones that love him rather than fueling his obsessive hatred toward the one who hurt him. He comes to understand that heāll be happier if heās open about his past and rely on his family whose affection isnāt conditional like billās was. He moves past his shame, and comes out of the paranoid isolation that bill had encouraged him into.
And of course he receives this comfort from his whole family. But I think itās very interesting how bill is framed as this toxic ex, Fiddleford is framed as the one he should have put his trust in during that pivotal time in 80s where ford ultimately blew his chance, and then thereās Stan.
Stan is hardly brought up at all but his presence lingers in more than few of Fordās vulnerable journal entries. Stan is the one who put Bill in his place. Stan is the one who made Ford realize where his priorities should be. Stan is the one whoās accepted him all along and is the one remaining by his side in the end.
Bill even blames Stan for stealing ford from him like a jealous ex who canāt stand the fact that ford has moved on with someone else. (This is directed at the reader but it mirrors his frustration with the stans when they worked together to defeat him)
In conclusion: incest somehow ended up being the healthiest partnership option all along. Who knew?
BONUS CODE THAT CAN BE MISCONSTRUED IN A MORALLY REPREHENSIBLE WAY:
At the bottom of the first lost journal page where heās talking about his loneliness and yearning for human connection, he mentions Stan in a code again. After embarrassing himself in front of the waitress he says: āStanley could have made her laughā š
I love them
Was it casual when we said weād spend forever together and then I spent 30 years literally living in your shadow trying desperately to bring you back into my life
stancest is healthier than billford ok byeee
Such an amazing concept! I can't wait to read an update ā¤ļøā¤ļø
Once upon a timeā¦
A whisper could be heard among the hills of an old abandoned land. A prophecy where it was said that an angel would come from heaven, bring glory to the world plunged into darkness and with his roar, would open the earth for it's rise.
But the prophecy was simply modified until it became a legend. However, it was never forgotten, since, in any case.
It was also whispered that the angel, whether of perdition or hope, would be much greater than the Sun itself.
Hello everyone, welcome to this post where i will introduce to you my story on Archive of our Own or AO3 about the theory of Papyrus being the Knight.
Must say that this took so long to publish due to some issues i had to fix, but now i can say everything is ready for you to enjoy!
With the following, I will give you some extra information about this story.
This story/AU is inspired by the theory of Papyrus the Knight, where you will see his point of view and his evolution.
Some characters have changed in age, like Papyrus in this case.
I apologize in advance if the story has grammatical errors, it is not my first language but I use several tools to make it understandable and enjoyable to read!
There may be slow updates, because I have external issues that may prevent me from updating frequently, but I will do everything in my power to achieve this.
This story is completely separate from the comic i did time ago.
And I don't need to say much more, you will have to discover that for yourself during your reading!
Now, let's start with the fun stuff!
Meet⦠"The Advisor"!
What? Does he have another name? Well, yes, but not right now.
This charismatic Darkner is the one who guides and advises Papyrus and his teacher, Dess.
As his name suggests, he is the advisor to the King of Spades.
He is enigmatic but very charming!
Meet the intimidating and powerful royal sorceress, Dessā¦!
Yes, strangely enough, she is only known by that nickname.
Dess is known as the Ice Sorceress, due to her superb control over magic and being very strong and good at hitting things!
(She is a bit grumpy but nice if you know her better.)
And let's not forget this charismatic skeleton that everyone knows!
Say hello to the GREAT PAPYRUS!
our dear knight, who is always excited to learn and protect others!
Believe in him or not, he will show you how cool he is!
Now that you know them, what are you waiting for to read their adventures?
Here is the link so you can go read it, I wish you a pleasant and interesting experience!
