Tip from Tae Kwon Do :The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do! 2. Learned this from a tourist guide. If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you… Chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION! 3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy.. The driver won’t see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives. 4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON’T DO THIS!) The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR , LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.. If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, Repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location. 5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage: A.) Be aware:look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor , and in the back seat. B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars. C.) Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle, and the passenger side.. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.) 6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!) 7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern! 8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked ‘for help’ into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim. 9. Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird.. The police told her ‘Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door..’ The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, ‘We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.’ He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby’s cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby.. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby’s cries outside their doors when they’re home alone at night. 10. Water scam! If you wake up in the middle of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your outside taps full blast so that you will go out to investigate and then attack. Stay alert, keep safe, and look out for your neighbors! Please pass this on This post should probably be taken seriously because the Crying Baby Theory was mentioned on America ‘s Most Wanted when they profiled the serial killer in Louisiana I’d like you to forward this to all the women you know. It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle.. I was going to send this to the ladies only, but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc., you may want to pass it onto them, as well. How The Steven Universe Movie Did Amnesia Well

Last week, I made a post covering the Dos and Do Nots of amnesia stories. What inspired it was the Steven Universe movie, which I personally thought was one of the best examples of how to make this kind of plot work.

So using the Four Elements I noticed as recurring in good memory-loss stories, I thought I’d use the film as a case study:

1) Emotional Weight

This is what Steven Universe has always excelled at, so of course it hit this one right on the head.

In many ways, amnesia is a threat perfectly suited for Steven. He is a character defined, more than almost any other I know, by his relationships. His love for Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl is the defining aspect of the show, and its main plot has always been how the four of them worked together to grow and develop.

Taking those relationships away from him is probably one of the scariest things he could experience.

Then, we have the flip side; how the Gems themselves react to memory loss. This is given less focus than in most amnesia stories, since they all essentially react like computers being rebooted. It’s a different and fun take.

The Gems’ reactions comes from getting their memories back- and those moments are some of my favourites in the film. Amethyst surprise quickly transforming into joyous laughter. Pearl’s self-satisfied pride as she gazes down at herself. Garnet calmly and confidently bursting into song as she defends Steven.

Which leads us into the next point…

Había una vez un muchacho sentado en su nuevo carro, parado en el tránsito de su ya no tan pequeña ciudad. ¿En qué momento Death City se había vuelto tan bulliciosa? Quizás fuera porque estaba la sede de los técnicos y armas que habían salvado el mundo. Quizás las personas se sentían más seguras ahí.

Bufó. ¿Cuánto tiempo ya llevaba en el tráfico? Había salido con tiempo para llegar justo con Maka, pero no había sido suficiente. Ya sentía el lomo de su libro actual estrellarse contra su precioso cráneo por no llegar a tiempo con ella. "El amor duele" decían. Y quien quiera que hubiera dicho eso seguro también era golpeado con libros en su cabeza.

Dioses, ¿cuántas neuronas le quedarían a estas alturas? Volvió la vista al frente, buscando un indicio de avance: los mismos autos avanzando a paso de caracol, acercándose a la intersección. ¿Habría ocurrido algún accidente? ¿Estaría cruzando alguna persona con dificultades visuales o motoras? ¿Estaría un grupo manifestandose contra las nuevas cafeterías cuyos productos sabían a mierda? Verdaderamente eran una ofensa las nuevas cafeterías en Death City. Poco a poco, Soul sentía como el calor le iba perlando la frente y su look cool iba desaparenciendo. De pronto sonaron los típicos cláxons desesperados.

-Sudar no es nada cool.

Vió su teléfono al momento en que entraba una llamada de Maka. Rezó internamente y también maldijo en voz baja.

-¡Soul! ¿Dónde estás?

-Hola mi cielo, ¿cómo estás? Yo bien, perfectamente atascado en el tráfico. Oh, estoy a punto de llegar, no te apur...- sonido de cláxons impacientes.

-¿Otra vez bajaste por Degollados? ¡Es la que más tráfico tiene!

-Maka, -respiro profundamente. Sabía que aunque estaba enojando no era con ella con quien debía de desquitarse. -Me vine por la autopista. Y eso que también salí con tiempo de sobra, una hora.

-Ay no. ¿por la que tiene esos nuevos semáforos?- Escuchó como del otro lado también soltaban un suspiro. Al menos, silenciosamente, ambos estaban de acuerdo en que no era la culpa de ninguno de los dos.

-Esta bien. Te esperaré dentro del café antes de que me queme más al sol.- Soul miró por la ventana hacia el Sol que estaba casi arriba de él. - Los últimos días del verano se hacían sentir con fuerza. -Sí, bonita. Llegaré pronto. Por cierto, ¿me pides un...- -Beep beep. Llamada finali...- Oh, okay.- murmuró, -Sin golpe en la cabeza pero también sin café.- Soul se sentía afortunado.

Un momento después la avenida se alivianó, los autos empezaron a avanzar bastante rápido y Soul pudo ver a unos cuantos metros el semáforo donde al aprecer no había nada que propiciara problemas. Sólo una nueva pantalla arriba del semáforo que a través de una cámara reflejaba el tránsito de la calle.

-Increíble. ¿Acaso se gastan nuestros impuestos en cámaras para ver cómo somos miserables en el tráfico?- Rió sin ganas, deseando poder salir pronto de ahí. Siguió viendo a su alrededor desinteresadamente: conductores aburridos, señoras arreglándose el flequillo, gente malhumorada... Hasta que le pitaron.

Se volteó extrañado. No estaba el verde y tampoco estaban avanzando. ¿Le sonaron el cláxon a él? Lo único que faltaba, pensó. "Un desesperado que se ponga a silbar porque así cree que avanzaremos más rápido." Pero la persona que le atenazaba no dejó de hacerlo. Y pronto se le unieron otros. Miró a su alrededor y vió que no le estaban echando bronca a él si no a quien estaba frente a él, a un auto rojo.

Soul volteó a ver a la pantalla sobre el semáforo. Estaba transmitiendo la imagen de una persona en un auto rojo. La persona se veía cansada, traje típico de oficinista y...

Y no traía el cinturón de seguridad.

¿Sería acaso que la pantalla "acusaba" a la gente que no traía el cinturón de seguridad puesto? En eso, la persona se dió por fin por aludida al verse a si misma en cámara. Desde su lugar, Soul pudo ver cómo se apresuraba a ponerse el cinturón y una vez hecho eso el semáforo se puso en verde.

Soul se quedó sorprendido. Los cláxons dejaron de silbar, pero aún así vió como algunos conductores que pasaban a lado del carro que estaba frente a él le bajaban la ventanilla y le decían un par de cosas poco amables.

Así que, ese era el nuevo semáforo. Y entonces vió que, poco después de avanzar, los autos volvieron a detenerse y empezaron a pitar. Claro, la gente se desesperaba porque por la irresponsabilidad de unos no podían llegar a donde tenían que ir.

-Increíble- Soul bajó la ventanilla disfrutando del vientecillo que se colaba por la velocidad. -Por eso Maka me preguntó si era la de los semáforos.- Soul miró hacia su pecho rápidamente -Al menos a mi no se me olvidó ponerme el cinturón.- Sonrió divertido mientras recordaba todas las veces que Maka le decía siempre "seguridad primero" y él pensaba que era una tontería. Pero al menos, esta vez él no estuvo frente a la cámara y podría estar tranquilo de que no era su culpa llegar tarde con Maka.
