You Know The American History Courses I Took Always Stopped Around The 80s

You know the American history courses I took always stopped around the 80s

Only AP went further, and it never focused too much on the 90s or the 00s even though you could very well do that.

And have it to be more relevant than whatever the fuckboys were touting in the 1700s.

I just think that that’s interesting.

America was doing all manners of nonsense in the periods you’re not taught about.

I mean maybe it’s different in other American high schools.

But I personally think that American history should focus more on the gulf war.

Maybe on Israeli-Palestinian relations.

African SAPs.

The colonialist policies of the IMF and World Bank.

Seriously why the fuck do we bother so much with the Founding Fathers and all their blathering about freedom while black women waited on their children?

Americans should be learning about how their capitalist system has fucked over every country they’ve written off as backwards.

Like I have no idea how us history is taught in other schools.

But I get the feeling that America would rather focus on the “distant” past.

America doesn’t wanna talk about the war on terror or Iran contra or the AIDS epidemic or the six day war and why we and Britain fucked up an entire region after world war 2.

Or how we started terrorist groups and put military dictatorships in place to protect our companies and their profits.

Or how the institutions that we essentially control are keeping those in poverty in poverty.

Seriously.

Enough with James Madison, who cares about human rights when your own government ignores the blatant human rights violations of a country that we’re allies with?

Come on.

American history can start with the damn Boston tea “massacre” if it wants, but why don’t we linger some more on Afghanistan?

We were involved.

We watched while our shock therapy programs fucked up Yugoslavia.

We watched while capitalism put nationalism in power and stirred ethnic violence.

And guess what?

American history is rooted in colonialism.

Which had a hand in the Rwandan genocide.

Which was ignored and debated in the UN, controlled monetarily by yours truly.

So please for the love of god.

Talk about the War of 1812 for like a day.

Go over American intervention in places it doesn’t belong for the rest of the year.

Go over slavery, yes, go in depth about reconstruction and segregation. These are important parts of American history.

But so is the era America decided its companies needed steady markets from every portion of the world so they could make billions instead of millions and decided to fuck everyone else over in the process.

We saw some good birds (and lizards tuatara) on our trip to Wellington last week! The Zealandia sanctuary is awesome.

The one I was most excited to see was the shining bronze cuckoo (green on the back, white and brown striped on the front in the photos above). As a child I learned about cuckoos laying their eggs in other birds' nests and leaving another species to raise them - but this is the first time I actually saw it in action! That baby cuckoo was sitting there going beep beep beep while a poor tiny grey warbler dashed around trying to find enough food for her giant son.

adults: oh silly children with no responsibilities no real trauma no life experience no worries and yet oh so dramatic about nothing

also adults: oh thank fucking GOD i am not in school anymore, i had another nightmare i was THERE again, i woke up in a cold sweat bc i didn't study for my TEST-there's nothing not anything like the sweet relief of realizing that you actually don't have one and you won't have one in a very very long time, i still remember what the hallways smell like, i graduated years ago but i don't feel safe yet

tucks you in and kisses your forehead then shows you my knuckle tats that say SEEP TITE

*wakes up and immediately checks that the gunman is still at large* oh thank goodness

man turned 26, got kicked off his parents' health insurance, experienced firsthand how the healthcare industry works, and said absolutely not and took direct fucking action

wishing you a speedy jury nullification and acquittal, king
