It is sad that in every age we must be reminded that it is wrong to kill children.

On July 1942, 2, most of the children of Lidice, a small village in what was then Czechoslovakia, were handed over to the gestapo office of the gestapo.

These 82 children were then transported to the of extermination camp 70 kilometers away. Once they arrived, they were gassed to death. This remarkable sculpture by Marie Uchytilová commemorates this massacre.

A group of Bronze Sculptures, paying tribute to the children who died. Its construction was decided in 1969 by the woman sculptor, Marie Uchytilova. As a symbol of an imaginary tomb of the 13 million most innocent victims of the war - children, she chose as model, 82 children of lidice asphyxiated in the gas rooms of chelmno.

psychic: [reads my mind]

me: the canon of sherlock holmes is the greatest love story ever told and bbc sherlock is the first show ever to illuminate the prologue to that story which has been obscured by years upon years of homophobia and heteronormativity. not only was holmes and watson's relationship made invisible by the prejudices the original acd canon evolved within, but bbc sherlock shows us that the society we live in now is also incapable of understanding queer romance beyond the realms of heterosexual convention while simultaneously maintaining a double standard when it comes to queer vs. straight romance. it demonstrates how if creators don't explicitly state the sexuality of characters queer relationships will inevitably be read as platonic, no matter how obviously in love two people are. it also demonstrates how within a heteronormative society being queer without adequate representation and support from those around you can easily lead to paths of self-destruction, many of us stumbling around in the dark unable to acknowledge or even understand our own feelings — mislabelling them, repressing them, being consumed with guilt/self-loathing for failed heterosexual relationships, or otherwise living unfulfilled lives without ever quite understanding why. moffat and gatiss reflect these struggles and the way society fails queer people, but also suggest that the power of true love is enough to be able to overcome even the deepest of traumas if we allow ourselves to finally acknowledge and communicate our feelings to each other.

How responsible to mention mental health. Some people are pretty anxious around here. Thanks.

Tumblr,

As you’re probably aware, the coronavirus disease, or COVID-19, has now been found in countries all over the globe. This is an understandably disconcerting moment for many, but there are steps we can all take to help mitigate the effect on our communities.

COVID-19 is spreading, but misinformation and disinformation are spreading even faster. The most responsible thing you can do is protect yourself from both the disease and false information. Being prepared with facts and data instead of assumptions and fabrications will help inform how you can best prepare for COVID-19.

Here are some resources you can trust:

WHO provides daily updates surrounding COVID-19’s spread, infection rate, and general influence on our society. Their latest update given on March 3, 2020, details that there is a shortage of personal protective equipment for healthcare professionals. They also provide a very handy FAQ section, where you can learn more about how to protect yourself and your community.

Every day Worldometer updates its website with the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in each country that has been affected. Worldometer has been rated one of the best free reference websites by the American Library Association, and for good reason: it lists every single one of its regular sources here, and lists the source of every COVID-19 update at the bottom of the COVID-19 page.

Your local health department will often have the most up-to-date information specific to your immediate area, including how to proceed if you believe you may be showing symptoms of the virus. If you live in the United States, you can find the contact information for your health department by visiting the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).

There’s another thing about this news that a lot of places are not talking about: the toll on one’s mental health, especially if you are someone who struggles with anxiety. If you find your concerns about being prepared are crossing a line that affects your mental health, please consider reaching out to a loved one who can guide you to help, a mental health professional, or an organization set up to help those in need.

Here are a couple of organizations you can trust:

Crisis Text Line is free, 24/7 support. Just text 741741 from anywhere in the United States. The Crisis Text Line will connect you with a trained Crisis Counselor.

National Alliance on Mental Health (@namiorg) offers free support and resources for those who are struggling. NAMI can be reached Monday through Friday, 10 am - 6 pm EST at 1-800-950-NAMI (6264) or by email at info@nami.org.

Take care of yourselves, Tumblr. Wash your hands well, practice keeping a safe distance from others, only wear a mask if you believe you are sick with COVID-19 symptoms and could infect others (or are immunocompromised yourself), and remember to fact check everything that you see. Head on over to @world-wide-what for a refresher on what fake news looks like and how it spreads. Pass those tips onto others when you see them accidentally spreading false information.

To the tune of “Modern Major General”

I am the very model of effective social distancing!

I listen to the experts on the topic of resistance-ing;

I know that brunch and yoga class aren’t nearly as imperative

As doing what I can to change the nation’s viral narrative.

I’m very well acquainted, too, with living solitarily

And confident that everyone can do it temporarily:

Go take a walk, or ride a bike, or dig into an unread book;

Avoid the bars and restaurants and carry out, or learn to cook.

There’s lots of stuff to watch online while keeping safe from sinus ills

(In this case, it’s far better to enjoy your Netflix MINUS chills)!

Adopt a pet, compose a ballad, write some earnest doggerel,

And help demolish Trump before our next event inaugural.

Pandemics are alarming, but they aren’t insurmountable

If everybody pitches in to hold ourselves accountable.

In short, please do your part to practice prudent co-existence-ing,

And be the very model of effective social distancing!
