This is so......

Some of us are not girlboss and its okay
i know everybody is talking about this already but i'm feeling a lot of rage right now towards screenwriters who think they're giving a personality to a female book character when they make her a Girlboss because they don't understand subtlety. they pick a female character that was written by a woman and they're like. we're going to make this character a feminist icon.
i fucking hate this performative feminism and this idea that hollywood has of feminism so much i fucking hate it aaaaaaaaaaaaaah i'm gonna die if this trend of girlbossifying characters doesn't end soon i swear i can't do this anymore
The lack of consequences for Pen is just hilarious. I get that its fantasy but there's a limit to being unrealistic.
It seems to me the writers wrote themselves in a corner by having Pen write all that shit in the first 2 seasons to stir up drama and move the plot forward. Then they started scrambling when they had to make her look good for her own season.
Also why show us all that backstory with Cressida if that's the ending she was gonna get. Its the poorest writing I've seen.
What the fuck show?
If Cressida is a monster for publishing one little cue card worth of Whistledown that doesn’t even slander anyone, how much worse of a monster is Penelope, who has been releasing a double sided three columned sheet consistently for years at this point?
If Cressida is a monster with a feud with Eloise and her family when she hasn’t even written anything about Eloise or the Bridgerton’s (yet?) how much more is Penelope a monster for her very overt resentment of the Bridgerton’s (for being what? Prettier than her? More loving? As if the Bridgerton’s aren’t chock full of dysfunction) a resentment so strong that it bleed into her writing that consistently attacked the Bridgerton’s?
If Eloise has put her family in danger by inviting Cressida into her home, how much danger did she put them in by inviting Penelope into their home?
If Eloise should never have befriended Cressida - how much more should she have never befriended Penelope?
If Cressida is evil for pretending to be Lady Whistledown how much more is Penelope evil for BEING Whistledown?
It can’t be one rule for one and another rule for another?
What is this moral essentialism? Where when Cressida does something it is bad because she is bad and when Penelope does a worse thing for long it’s fine because Penelope is good?
Well I am sorry show but I don’t believe that some people are good and some people are bad - I think the morality of people’s actions is what defines their personal morality.
Why didn’t they have Eloise doing her speech about feeling upset and guilty about inviting a viper with a grudge in to her home, and make it about Penelope?
Because having her say it about Cressida feels fake
But having her say it about Penelope would have felt real - and would have been one of the desperately needed consequences for her.
I think one of the most damaging ideologies towards children is the conviction that having children isn’t a calling but a moral obligation.
klaus got sober, finally got sober but was made a germaphobe. he was ridiculed for finally having his shit together but having weird coping mechanisms for it. then he was made to spiral again and then killed off. he got his life on track, was an exceptional uncle/second parent to his niece and then they made him sell his body for drugs and inevitably killed him off as a junkie.
luther, who was the leader, who was smart enough to be an astronaut could amount to nothing without his powers except from being a stripper. he had absolutely nothing and no one, even sloan was ripped away from him and then he, too was killed off. lonely and unaccomplished.
ben was brought back, finally alive, granted not the same ben but he wore the same face and he had a family who could annoy him into shape but he stayed a dick, became a apocalyptic monster and credited for the destruction of all the branching timelines, and died as a monster that he was so afraid of becoming.
alison got her happy life but couldn’t sustain it. her husband left her but at least she got to have claire and for that i can give credit but she remained codependent on klaus to be her passion project that made her feel better. she never learnt why that was not healthy and then died without her daughter.
diego had this beautiful life, a family that called him their own, three kids and wife who called him darling, and love and then he was made to fuck it all up because of some obsession with the CIA, in service of a romance between his wife and brother because the creator thought an old man needed some romance. he wasn’t even shown saying goodbye to his kids.
lila left behind her assassin ways, she stopped being batshit crazy and ultra suspicious to settle down with a man she genuinely and wholeheartedly loved and trusted, only to throw it all away because his younger (and yet much older) brother found her a timeline with strawberries. she was made to give up her kids, her family, her happy fucking life when all she ever wanted was to not be alone.
viktor got dealt the worst hand, always. he was abused vehemently by his father and ignored and relegated due to no fault of his own. he was made to feel ugly and broken and small but then he realised that his family loved him even if his father didn’t. he got a chance at being normal and he took it, only for it to be stripped away from him so that he could sacrifice his life for a world that was never kind to him. he was made to reconcile with his abusive father and then promptly erased out of existence.
five. my dearest boy, young man, old fool, five. he survived an apocalypse after another. fought tooth and nail to keep his family alive and well and dedicated his entire life to make sure of it. only for all his efforts to be made futile and his snark to be mellowed. he made it his life mission to keep the world safe and his family safe only for all that to be stripped away from his character and made into a lovesick fool who abandoned them during the final battle to mope about his brother’s wife not liking him back.
there were so many character assassinations this season, GoT writers would be proud of dear old steve.
I’ve seen some people touch on this, because like what was that season, but it literally makes no sense that Lila’s kids and Claire can exist in the one “true” timeline without causing a paradox, like the whole plot of season 3 is that the umbrellas are in a timeline where their moms died before they were born and it caused a kugleblitz(?), we have a full lecture about the implications of the grandfather paradox, how does these kids existing in a timeline that their parents never existed in not create another kugleblitz??? Like you made these rules TUA writers?? How can you just ignore like the biggest time travel rule that YOU set???
One thing i really love about spy x family is this pattern where they do the emotional thing thats true to themselves instead of the rational objective thing that would be good for the mission, and in the long run that turns out to be the best move.
Take the school interview. Getting furious on Anya’s behalf when the asshole makes her cry and storming out was objectively a pretty bad move for the mission. Operation strix could have ended right there. But at the same time, showing their decency and care for their daughter won over henderson and things worked out. Plus, because they acted like a real family in that moment, it puts them beyond suspicion. Imagine if someone later tried to convince henderson that loid was a spy, and they only enrolled anya to infiltrate the school. He’d laugh in their face! He’d say let me tell you a story about how they nearly didn’t get in because they loved their daughter so much, theres no way that family are spies.
Another great example is Anya’s relationship with Damian. Punching him in the face on day one… not a great move for operation “get close to Damian and use that friendship to get info on his dad” But in the long run, this again puts Anya above suspicion. If someone later tried to tell Damian that his friend Anya just got close to him to spy on him, he’d think it ridiculous. He’d say of course thats not the case, we hated each other when we first met, if she wanted to spy on me she’d have tried to suck up to me like everyone else.
Despite being a story all about deception, the way the narrative consistently rewards the Forgers for acting like a real family and being true to themselves gives it this really sweet wholesome core. It emphasizes that this is a story about the fake family becoming real and all of them becoming their best selves in the process.
academic dishonesty is not something you can spin as moral lol i do not want to share a career field let alone a social sphere with a bunch of chatgpt using ass bitches
