It Makes Me Quite Upset That All The Math People Hate (High School Math) Isn't Even Really Mathematics.

It makes me quite upset that all the math people hate (High school math) isn't even really mathematics. Computations at best. Feels like going to people who like literature and saying I hate literature I was made to do spelling tests every year in school.

Also unsolicited hate whenever you're like I like math.... There's no critique just pure hatred. Like I've cried because of math before, I still love it to bits.

Can people stop putting math hate on the math tag ?????

pleaseeee like I just want to see some fun math stuff, a bunch of theorems and memes

Actually this is what diogenes was trying to say....

the default way for things to taste is good. we know this because "tasty" means something tastes good. conversely, from the words "smelly" and "noisy" we can conclude that the default way for things to smell and sound is bad. interestingly there are no corresponding adjectives for the senses of sight and touch. the inescapable conclusion is that the most ordinary object possible is invisible and intangible, produces a hideous cacophony, smells terrible, but tastes delicious. and yet this description matches no object or phenomenon known to science or human experience. so what the fuck

It is high time we also start boycotting everyone involved in this project.

all these arguments about the new harry potter casting but all i can think is that every person involved in the series has willingly signed up to work with such an outspoken transphobe

So, my spouse has been exploring his gender lately; he also just built himself a new laptop. Today he told me that he in an attempt to process some genderfeels through metaphor, he made a post on a trans forum along the lines of: "I'm a lifelong Windows user and I think I'm pretty good at it. I want to find out what Linux has to offer but I'm afraid I wouldn't be any good at it. And how do you choose the right Linux distro, anyway? Do you have to try them all?"

The responses, he said, were a mix of useful advice about feeling out your gender and useful advice about choosing a Linux distro.

I love trans people so much

disabled people are not an optimisation problem. neither are they a resource problem. they are not a burden to society and their "contribution" has nothing to do with what they deserve. a society that's built to discard disabled people, including age related disabilities, is a society that's failed. if you can't offer healthcare to people then your country has failed. there's no maximum resource quota for people to keep them alive and living well. actually i don't give a singular fuck how expensive it is. fascist fucking country

Just learnt about this dude Galois, absolutely crazy. so basically, he:

- tries to get into "Ecole Polytechnique", the French school for science at the time, and fails

-publishes several papers on polynomials

-his father dies

-tries again (and fails) to get into the Ecole

-publishes several papers basically founding group theory

-attends a lesser school, gets kicked out and eventually arrested for political beliefs

-died in a duel shortly after he got out of prison

One of the most frustrating things about being ADHD is the way hyperfixations and skill levels work.

So I, an ADHD person, will get obsessed with A Thing. I will research, I will practice. I'll check out library books, watch YouTube videos, seek out podcasts, all to learn everything I can about The Thing.

Thiat Thing is often a skill or hobby. Painting, writing, candlemaking, baking, mixology, tea blending.

But the thing with ADHD is that you'll be obsessed with it only to a certain skill level. Something where all the mystery is gone. It's not as fun once the learning part is over and it's just boring practice to get better.

Then abruptly, you'll lose interest and move to another fixation.

That skill level you've earned may be higher than your average person with a passing interest. But it's also lower than someone who specializes in said thing, who has put in those hard hours of practice and work.

So you start just forming this miscellaneous collection of things that you're good enough at to earn some praise, but still leave you feeling like you're just never *quite* good enough at anything because you can't just choose anything.

And you want to pick a Thing. To find Your Thing. The thing that fits, that you can finally excel at. But you just can't seem to.

How do I explain to my professor that me forgetting what an algebraic variety does not mean that I do not know what it is.

I was making a pb&j today and forgot that

1. I need bread for sandwich

2. What bread was......

(bluescreened, pretended to continue making the pbj and then realised peanut butter goes on bread usually)

To be fair, I was thinking pb&j and it didn't have the word sandwich in it to give me clues.
