Lots of thoughts recently. Everything feels plastic.

I could go on and on about why all that AI "art" is bad. I could mention theft, lack of creativity, it's impact on the work field and environment, but countless people have already said all that. I wanted to touch on something that to me is the most utterly wrong about all of it.

Art is more than just something pretty to look at or listen to. It's therapeutic. It's a form of communication. A tool for human connection. It's a pure, human need.

anyway a big trope in Mandalorian/Clone Wars fanfic is how touch starved you can get if you wear a full suit of armor + helmet all the time, even if you're getting fist bumps and shoulder knocks on a regular basis. which is to say, there's a lot of Batfamily members who might wear a full body suit and helmet (Jason) but still wear normal clothes when they're "off duty" -- and there's characters who absolutely don't. looking at YOU, Bruce Wayne, who wears head to toe armor with only the lower half of your face exposed, and when you take that suit off, you trade it for -- get this -- turtlenecks, full length slacks, and sunglasses. you think that man is getting any kind of skin-to-skin platonic contact? does anyone actually touch him outside of maybe the occasional romantic entanglement or torture session?

More Parental Hank

It takes a month or two for Logan to become attached to Beast. He’s a Doctor, and Logan Does Not like doctors. Seeing anyone in a lab coat means Experiments and Pain and Magnets. But when he sees the Beast destroying Sentinels to protects his students, roaring and baring his teeth and using all of himself to fight, well. Like recognizes Like.

Better yet, Hank is much more patient than any Doctor he’s had before. He asks before jabbing him with needles and cold metal stethoscopes and doesn’t even use the Collar to drag him around!

The first time they spar, though, it triggers a memory (and a subsequent panic attack). The Beast just holds his wrists, murmurs reassurances, and rubs his thumbs against the outside of Loans knuckles, uncaring of his claws. After that, they really do start to bond. So much so that it causes…some codependency issues in Logan when he has to be apart from His Person. But, that all comes later.

In a truck stop bathroom washing my hands today and 2 boys, looked about 5 and 9, came in with their little sister who looked maybe 2. The following whispered conversation made my entire day

"We have to wait, there's a lady in here!"

"That's not a lady, he has a mustache! We can be in here!"

"Some ladies have mustaches! And she has boobs!"

"Well some guys have boobs! Like Uncle Jake!"

"Uncle Jake is fat!"

At this point I could not contain a chuckle and both whirled around with identical looks of panic on their faces. I smiled and said "it's alright for you guys to be in here so your sister has help, don't worry. And I'm both! That's why I have boobs and a mustache. Some folks are just built that way"

(In unison) "Ooooooh!"

(older boy) "So do you use Sir or Ma'am or both?"

"Both, but I prefer Sir"

"Cool! Well thanks Sir! We have to help our sister now!"

This was in a small town country truck stop and both boys had "Murica" type stuff on and neither of them had any issue at all with these concepts. Their mom approached me while I was in line about 10 minutes later and apologized for them bothering me in the bathroom (they had told her about the interaction) and she and I had a lovely little chat too. I got to introduce her to the term "intersex" and her reply was "I think I've heard of that before! I didn't know that was the word for it. Amazing how many different ways God can make people!"
