I’m at a sociology conference and just attended a memorial for one of the giants of our field, and one of the panelists told this story…he was at a meeting with this guy, who he got his PhD under and had a long standing relationship with, and he was bemoaning the current state of the world, and he asked this old professor, “how can you be so optimistic? I can’t ever be anything but a pessimist.”
and the old professor said, “you little fucker, I’m going to make a statement and then I’m going to take you out to the parking lot and beat your ass. What good does your pessimism do?”
and that really struck me. not the least because I also knew this old professor and he very rarely swore, so I know this was something he was really worked up about. what good does your pessimism do? What GOOD does your pessimism DO. I’ll be thinking about that for awhile.

I think people in fandom have forgotten that the creators are allowed to have fun too. Do we really think the hellaverse team are unaware of the excessive swearing, or horny jokes, or random ships? The fandom should take notes. They're fictional characters made for us to play with and have fun. None of it is real. They're abstract dolls with no real, substantial meaning. Ship who you wanna ship, be nice to others, draw art, write fanfic, make friends with like minded nerds, ignore the rise of puritanism and people feeling entitled to tell you what to do or don't do based on their personal preferences, do whatever the hell you want because that's what fandom SHOULD be about. It's a space made for geeks and freaks who just want to have fun, it's not a government institution where we create laws or wtv
Aw he’s shy
being a humanities major who’s friends with stem majors is so funny because you’ll ask your friends what they’re doing today and they’re like “UGH it’s so stressful i have to stabilize the reactor core for my nuclear power midterm and then i have to build the supercomputer from i have no mouth yet i must scream for my electrical engineering homework :/ what about you” and you’re like “oh well i have to read a fun little book and write an essay about gender.” and they still think you have it worse
I really love your Poppy playtime children art, are you going to do the others as well because I would love to see Marie, Theodore, and Riley as well
Sure! :)

Elliot.... Look, I'm sure the man had nothing but good intentions and truly cared about Harley but like others have pointed out, he really did not consider Harley's situation at all. He mentions in his observations about Harley that the boy probably has a bad home life:
"From here and there he talks about home, I get the sense that he doesn't miss it very much."
AND YET HE ENDS HIS LETTER TO HARLEY WITH:
"So I challenge you to head for home, Harley, and to look at the people around you."
LIKE SIR YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT THE PEOPLE AROUND HIM PROBABLY AREN'T GREAT WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT
Chances are that Harley did go home afterwards (he is a still child at this point after all, where else can he go?) looked at the people around him and fully threw away whatever humanity he had left after that - becoming the person we know today.
Not to justify Harley's actions at all, but I would feel betrayed too if I opened up to someone about a rough home life, and then when they kicked me out of the one safe place I had they sent me back home.
Like hello?
And again, I truly believe Elliot thought he was doing the right thing. But I don't think he should have made the fatal assumption that every child came from a good home - especially with all the hints already in place.
