The quote in the secret history "death is the mother of beauty" " and what is beauty" "terror" is absolutely delightful but what is even more delightful is the context in which it is said. Julian has pointed out something that has deeply resonated with me. We are attracted to the most tragic parts of poetry whether it is the murder of Agamemnon, the death of Julius Caesar or the wrath of Achilles. Such ghastly images portray themselves in such beauty that it is not wrong to say that death is the mother of beauty and beauty is terror.

Fanfiction writers be like:
"here's the immensely time consuming 100K word novel-length passion project I'm working on between my real life job and family! It eats up hundreds of hours of my one and only life, causes me emotional harm, and I gain basically nothing from it! Also I put it on the internet for free so anyone can read if they want. Hope you love it!" :)
“Smart people” who only consume “smart things” are just prisoners of their own self-image. “Intelligence” is less about just what you consume and more about the insights you can extract from whatever you engage with.
