As embers died down, and the bodies discarded a heretic's soul wafts around the grass unsure where to go afterwards, as per due it's heinous crimes, it does not deserve to ascend..

"Are you lost?" says a child, it's wool as pale as fallen snow, they extend a hand to the wayward soul, heavy in it's guilt, it heaves it's way forward to the light they emit.

"No" it whispers, the heart had stopped beating for a while "It is my penance to stay here for eternity"

"Well" they reply, shifting an armful of wheat in their small arms "I am in no position to deny you of your wish. but know that you are welcome to stay with me and mother, we're making oat cookies tonight"

"Oat....cookies?" it rasps

"Yes, despite what everyone says, it can be proven to be quite delicious"

the soul considers this, how is it welcome? many fell by it's blade, both innocent and guilty alike along with....it still remembers their cries.. it tries to forget..

The child turns around to leave knowing full well that yet another soul joins their parade, several others hover nearby, a blade of anger and hatred cutting through their bodies as if butter. that was their punishment, this was their peace. their rest.
