Scooby-Doo AU-ish
Velma is a conspiracy theorist and cryptid obsessed, fascinated by all myths, legends and folklore and even the mention of magic of any kind. Sure she’s a scientist, but that just means she wants to figure out how and why the magic works, it doesn’t make her a sceptic.
None of the gang are sceptics, they can’t be, not when they go around with a talking dog familiar and his lanky warlock companion.
Shaggy’s the only one who actually has any magical ability but it’s Velma who’s figuring out how he can use it. He found Scooby when he was seven, playing in the woods behind his house when suddenly there’s this little brown puppy smiling at him and talking to him. Shaggy didn’t think anything of it, Velma became obsessed with figuring out what he was, Fred went into denial about if for a solid year and Daphne just shrugged and said that the talking dog was weird but cool and moved on.
Daphne has always been good at accepting things that most people would be stopped in their tracks on, Shaggy too, of course, Velma and Fred are the ones who need the explanations, though Velma will accept a magical one while Fred would prefer an actual scientific one. He’s a mechanic and an engineer kind of person, strictly in the confines of the hard sciences even though the life he lives means he can’t deny the fact that science isn’t actually the end all be all.
It was Velma’s idea to start the road trip the summer after they finished high school, she was determined to find an explanation for Shaggy and Scooby. There were rumors and stories about the supernatural all over the place and it gave the gang some vague goals for the trip. Daphne, always looking for a reason to get out of her too big too quiet mansion of a home, was all for it and Shaggy has always been willing to go along with Velma’s schemes. Fred was the one who took the most convincing, but he came around eventually, like always.
The road trip became a tradition, any time they had a long enough break between their classes at university, or cooking school in Shaggy’s case, they hopped into Fred’s van and headed out to see what kind of adventure they’d get into this time. Sometimes they stumbled onto real magic and sometimes they didn’t, but an adventure was an adventure either way.
Velma became incredibly skilled at detective work, Fred grew increasingly able with trap building, Shaggy practiced his magic and Daphne had all sorts of chances to use her many eclectic skills.
(Growing up the surprise child of a rich couple with five already grown daughters led to a wide range of lessons from sewing and music to fencing and martial arts to literally anything she wanted to try out ever.)
Mostly the gang just lived their lives, it just so happened those lives included jetsetting around the world and dealing with an absurd amount of insane mishaps.

AO3 Complaint
It’s really frustrating that AO3 conflates Past relationship tags with the overall relationship tag. If I’m trying to find fics about a specific ship, I don’t want to have to deal with stories that are actually about a different relationship and the one I want is already broken up. I wish there was a feature for just ships that are past or temporary. It’s really annoying when people tag a ship that they plan to break up or are actively writing negatively about. Everyone is free to write about whatever ship they want, I just find it kind of rude for people to tag ships they don’t actually like so that people who do like it and are specifically searching for fics about them end up having to deal with fics that are the exact opposite of what they want to read.
The same thought goes into Tumblr and other social media post where people tag ships that they’re actually against and force people who do like them to read their negativity.
Yu-gi-oh! Thought
It occurs to me that Vrains makes sense as a possible future to the first series in the yugioh timeline instead of GX and 5Ds. GX and 5Ds are supposed to be in the future of Yugioh Duel Monsters but the technology doesn’t match with what was shown in the Dark Side of Dimensions movie, Vrains, however, does. So it kind of works timeline wise that DSOD is the basis of a branch in the timeline, GX and 5Ds happen in the timeline where Kaiba never figures out VR tech, ie, DSOD never happens. Meanwhile, Vrains is the future where VR tech does happen, the future post DSOD. No idea where Zexal, Arc-V or Sevens fits into it, just thought it could work.
The Problem with KakaObi
Okay look, Kakashi is my favorite character and my fandom bicycle, I ship him with everybody, including Obito sometimes. My problem is that so many kakaobi writers have him, like, secretly in love with him from back when they were teammates and have him pining after his memory for the next 20 years or whatever. And I get it, watching the man you love die for you and then come back from the dead is just full of melodrama. But at oldest Kakashi was, like, 13 when Obito died, I usually view him as 10 or 11. I don’t care what kind of a genius he is, pre-teens are not having an intense melodramatic love going on, they just aren’t. And having an adult Kakashi pine after a child Obito is just gross, it’s gross in canon with Obito and Rin too. I don’t mind kakaobi, not my favorite pairing, but it’s better than kakairu (god I hate that pairing) I just wish people would write them falling in love as proper adults. This is probably why the only way I can read them is in AUs where Obito came back to Konoha. They just don’t work with the canon setting without some real work too many don’t put in. Whatever, people can write whatever they want, I just need to be more careful with my tag search.

Harry Potter Complaint
Okay, so I don’t even know why I care anymore because I’ve already decided that Harry Potter is overrated and I should be done with it but I can’t stop thinking about how JK Rowling messes up magic in North America. I’m not even going to bother getting into all the issues with what she said about Native American magic, that’s a whole different problem that I don’t have the knowledge to competently talk about. My biggest issue is with the political landscape of the magical community I. The United States. Does she not know anything about how Congress and our branches of government work? There is just not possible way for there to be a magical president before the United States as a country was formed. Also, there would be no magical president at all, is there a magical prime minister in her books? No, there isn’t, there is a Minister of Magic, so it should be the Secretary of Magic. Further, what the hell is with Ivermony somehow being the only school for magic between all of the United States and Canada, does she have any idea how big these two countries are? We aren’t little island Britain that can pull off having one school, we are a massive continent, it’s complete unfeasible even if we did have the same culture of boarding school as they do, which we don’t. If you aren’t going to bother doing any research about the country you’re writing about before you starts describing a secret society in their midsts, don’t write anything.
Naruto Fic Problem
There’s this kind of annoying trend in Naruto fanfic where Naruto is basically abused by the whole village, constantly getting yelled at, only being sold rotten food, his teachers purposely sabotaging him, people actively attacking him, etc. This has always bothered me because it feels like writers are taking things way too far in his treatment. Especially when they include other ninja acting that way when that’s never really shown. I mean, yeah, there’s was that one guy who threw a mask at him and no one really went out of their way to be kind besides Iruka and the Hokage but they never show evidence that he was constantly being tormented. I just can’t imagine that if things were taken to that extreme that one, the Hokage never would have stepped in or two, that Naruto would have put up with things to that degree. It makes me uncomfortably to read, and I like canon-divergent stories where someone takes him in and raises him, but I hate reading about him being treated like that, it just doesn’t seem realistic and makes me sad. It also doesn’t make Konoha worth saving, if it’s people are that bad, why bother with it? I like it having flaws and exploring its corruption is interesting, but people take it to an extreme that just makes it seem flat and dull. I’m just really not a fan of every civilian in Konoha being a fear driven, pack mind orientated monster towards Naruto.
Epic Thoughts
So I’m not really sure how Jorge read a story about a ruthlessly pragmatic but arrogant man having to suffer the consequences of his own hubris and came out with the idea of that same guy needing to learn to be ruthless after ten years of war but wonky narrative decisions aside, all the songs really are amazing, it blows my mind.
I’m always amazed with how much talent is on display when you listen to music.
Yugioh! 5Ds Headcannon
Yusei, Crow and Jack learned to turbo duel on regular motorcycles using old duel disks. Duel runners actually have quite a few modifications to them in order to use them in dueling, autopilot and connected duel disks are part of that. Yusei has to jerry rig a separate device that lets them add speed counters and had to hack their disks to allow for speed spells so the boys could learn to play.
