Day 20/60 - Hey, Nice To See You Again!

Day 20/60 - Hey, nice to see you again!

Hey! I'm kinda back✨

I had a lot of mental health issues recently, so I took a break from social media, tried to keep up with my study agenda and relaxed with playing games like Eastward and Minecraft💖

It helped me a lot and I finally feel good enough to post again!✨

Keep in mind, that it's ok to take breaks from social media and only do the minimum amount of studying. It's totally fine, just make sure to not get stuck in procrastination😅

Take care of yourself and your mental health!✨💕

See you soon!!

Day 10/60 - Slow Progress Is Still Progress!

Day 10/60 - Slow progress is still progress!

I’ve been working on my first social psychology book for 10 days now and I finally managed to read through all chapters! It’s really hard for me to focus, stay motivated and productive atm, but I’m working on it! I’m taking breaks to play chill games like Animal Crossing or Stardew valley and do my studying in silence (which is very unusual for me😅)

I think I’m feeling a little bit burned out, but that’s ok. I will take everything a little bit slower✨

I believe in myself, I can do this!💖

Have you ever dealt with burn-out?😵‍💫

Day 6/60 - It’s Monday Again!

Day 6/60 - It’s Monday again!

Hey guys! I took the weekend off, went on some walks and just relaxed a bit😊

Today I updated my Notion, adding all the tasks I have to do✨🥰

I also managed to read half a chapter of my social psychology book, plan an essay that is due in a few days and write some summaries for previous chapters I have read!💖 All of it took me around 3 hours. I’m really proud of myself that I studied that much today✨🥰

How are you doing?✨

what app are you using to freehand write on your ipad with a stylo/pen, if you don’t mind me asking? thanks so much in advance!

Mainly using Goodnotes 5 + apple pencil first gen. for everything! 💖 I love this app because it offers a lot of options. + I think the investment of those 10 or 11$ is totally worth it✨💗 I’ve been using it for 2 years now and they still make huge updates which make it even easier to take handwritten notes!

1.     Organize your study space

Organizing your study space is really important. Avoid starting to study before that because getting up to get things you don’t have at hand will distract you. I have my own “desk organization list”. Laptop, iPad, Apple Pencil, earphones, water, fruits, my pencil case, my folders, paper, etc.

2.     Make a plan and get control of your calendar

Make a to do list and plan everything out. When exactly are your exams?  How many days do you want to study for each subject? Which subject needs more time? Etc., etc.

3.     Mistakes are good

When studying we do make mistakes sometimes. I hate it. You hate it. Yes, it’s awful. But they are GOOD. You learn from them. A short anecdote of my life: If I didn’t make the mistake of dating a complete idiot, I probably would not have learned that bad boys really aren’t that great haha.

4.     Find examples

To really understand something, you should find examples. E. g. if you are learning about some kind of criminal law, look up cases. If you are studying about the business cycle, look up examples of different countries. Is the US in a boom? Or a depression? Has it been in a depression before? What was that like?

5.     Test yourself

Quizz yourself. This is the most important thing when studying something by heart or learning a language. Get your flashcards out of your pocket!  And quizz yourself every single day!

6.     Take regular breaks and sleep for 8 hours

I know, studying is important. But what is even more important is your health. Don’t drain yourself. You got this. Don’t worry! Take a short break after 25 minutes every time. Just a short one. Allow yourself to breath and close your eyes. Your brain needs sleep and breaks to function!

7.     Study before going to sleep

A numerous amount of studies have found out that the brain processes a lot of things while sleeping. This can be very beneficial to us! Study for a few minutes before going to bed or revise what you have studied that day. It will help you remember it better.

8.     Eat good foods

I know you don’t want to hear this… A pizza is quite nice. But is it good for you? Probably not. Food is fuel. But we need good fuel to function properly. Eat nutritious foods and be good to your body. It really needs a healthy diet to maintain your health and stay happy. Also: Your brain needs calories. Don’t starve yourself. Aaaand, remember to drink enough water. I recommend watching “The Game Changers” on Netflix.

9.     Exercise

Working out can be extremely beneficial to you. Not just for your physical strength but also for your mental health and productivity, studies have found. Going for a run or going to the gym can increase your overall well-being! So let’s go! I’m getting ripped tonight, RIP that… umm sorry.

10.  Be kind to yourself

Last but not least, please be kind to yourself. Don’t beat yourself up. Everything is going to be fine. You are not alone. You are loved. You are worthy. Please remember that! I love you.

IIf you are struggling right now, please join our self help group on Discord. We’re doing self help “group therapy” calls. We’re stronger together. I’m also working on a website to help students with studying and mental health issues.

Helping Someone Suffering From Depression

Helping someone suffering from depression

This is for everyone who is seeking help on how to help someone suffering from depression. If you are dealing with this illness, please show this to your friends and family. Showing love and support can make a difference. Here are some tips:

1. Thank you for educating yourself

I know that having a loved one suffering from mental illnesses is very hard. You are not to blame. And you are doing the right thing by trying to educate yourself on how to help them. I am so proud that you are there for your friend, child, girlfriend, boyfriend, mother, father etc. Things will become better eventually and you can greatly impact your loved one's mental health.

2. Understanding depression

Depression is a real illness and its seriousness should not be underestimated. Do not blame your loved one for being drained from motivation and energy even if you do not unterstand the reasons. Do you blame someone suffering from cancer for being exhausted, for example? No.

Do not take it personally when your loved one says hurtful things. This is a common sign of depression. It is the illness talking and not your loved one. Please show compassion. I understand that this might be hard sometimes, but it is crucial to show your support. Otherwise your loved one's guilt might consume them which will feed the depression.

Saying things such as "But your life is totally fine.", "Just snap out of this!", "Why can't you be happy? I'm doing so much to help you!', "Oh, stop being lazy!" etc will NOT cure a serious illness. It will do the opposite.

You can help a depressed person, yes, but however hard you may try, healing someone else's depression is not possible. Still, offering your support is crucial to help your loved one to recover!!!

Know that this illness can lead to your loved one losing his, her, their life. Do not panic. Just know that this is serious and that they need all the support they can get.

3. recognizing symptoms of depression

Here are some examples:

Eating way less or even nothing or eating too much

Sleeping way less or sleeping too much

Abusing alc*hol or dr*gs

Having a negative outlook on life

Having little to no interest in anything anymore/ no motivation

Not wanting to leave the house/ the room etc.

Not being emotionally available

Saying things such as "I can't do this anymore!", "I am so exhausted!" etc.

4. Talking to someone about depression

Please show compassion and make them understand how much you love them. Do not blame your loved one for being difficult etc.

Please do not make this about yourself. Yes, l know you are suffering as well because seeing someone you love in that state is awful, but telling this to your loved one might only make his, her, their depression worse.

Giving advice might sometimes not be the best way to approach things at first. It might put too much pressure on your loved one. Showing love and understanding the illness will do way more to help the healing process.

Be persistent without pressuring them. People suffering from depression tend to withdraw themselves from other people. Show them that they can talk to you - without regretting it in the end.

5. How to start a conversation

Do something nice for them. For example, make their favorite food, bring them a snack, etc.

Sit with them for a while and start the conversation. Here is an example:

You know I love you, right? I've been noticing that you haven't been well lately and I'd really like to talk about that. I want you to be happy because you mean so much to me.

6. Examples of things you can say to your loved one:

I love you and I understand that this is not your fault. I will always be here for you!

You do not have to go through this alone. We are together in this.

If there is anything I can do to help you, I will do it immediately.

You can always come to me. Tell me anything.

No matter what, I will help you heal. I will not get mad when you withdraw from me or get angry at me. No matter what you do or what will happen, I will never abandon you.

Is there anything that happened to you and left you feel this way? (Trauma has to be talked about!)

Would you like to see a doctor? Would you like me to come?

7. Understanding the risk of suic*de and self harm

Always encourage your loved one to get professional help as the risks are too high. Here are some signs the person might be suic*dal:

- Talking about self-hatred, hopelessness, not seeing a point in existing anymore - Saying that their trauma is too big to ever heal and that things will never get better - Looking for things that can harm them and e. g. hiding them somewhere (for example a piece of glass) - Suddenly becoming very calm!

As treatment might sound pointless to your loved one (a common sign of depression), be persistent! Do not give up on them. Make appointments, tell them you will take care of everything.

8. Take care of yourself

Please do not neglect your own health! Thank you so much for helping your loved one. You are doing the right thing and there is so much hope! I am so grateful for anyone who is currently doing their best to help their person's healing process. You are saving a life! Thank you so much.

As always, if you are struggling right now and would like to talk to someone, please join our #selfhelpforstudents server on Discord.

Reminder:

Reminder:

Always try to read articles and scientific magazines, which have to do with your studies! It will help you with understanding difficult topics, as well as rise your interest into the topic which will also rise your interest in studying hard for the topic.

Never only read your school / uni books, it will make you unhappy and unmotivated to study.

Try to read something 30 minutes per day and you will notice a huge difference!

If you have huge problems with motivating yourself, try to read some motivational books/articles!

Whether doing anything of the things mentioned above:

I promise, that everything will be alright and I believe in all of you, that you will ace this upcoming exam, achieve your goals and be happy <3

Another Gloomy Day Of Studying!

Another gloomy day of studying!

I´m sorry for being absent the last few days, but I have been struggling to study properly because of some massive headaches.

Still: I managed do do some tasks everyday and it´s totally fine that I haven´t been as productive as I wish I had been. My health is more important than studying many hours per day. As long as I can still achieve my goals and keep up with my agenda, everything will be alright. I can still study enough to ace this exam!!

Stay positive and take care of your (mental) health!
