Would literally slam into the door because he heard you laughing from across the room and lost his focus

One time he even bumped into Levi, he still swears it hurt more than any brick wall he walked into.

Mikasa caught on it a bit late because she doesn't really pay attention to other people beside Eren and Armin.

Talking about letters, Armin writes you one everyday. Describing how you made him feel that day and how much seeing you smile in his direction made his heart explode into a supernova.

It never works, he either ends up throwing it away because he doubts himself too much or just take it home to stash it with the other letters he couldn't throw away.

Eren is the most agressive motivational man ever, it backfires and makes Armin even more doubtful of himself.

Mikasa tried to be a wing women for him but her attempts either sound like a threat or like she's the one hitting on you.

If you give even the tinest of smiles or the most basic of politness to her "attempts" Armin will literally cry.

He thinks he can never compete with Mikasa.

He also buys small things that subtly remind him of you, it his secret and it's subtle enough that no one can tell.

Like a brooch of your favourite flower or wearing socks in your favourite colour.

He'd even listen to the music you like even if it isn't his type.

He is a sucker for love songs and when alone he sings them sometimes in hushed tones while thinking about you.

He set your text conversation to have different notification tone than the rest so he can know when you text him.

He hugs his pillow sometimes and thinks if this is how it would feel like to cuddle you against his chest.

Then he blushes and scolds himself for being "creepy"

It's not, it's adorable actually.

If you're hanging out together, he'd ask your opinions on whatever subject comes up. He'd also get you a snack if you pass a corner store together.

Really really really wants to hold your hands, please let him hold your hands.

Sometimes he tries to find excuses to do it, like helping you cross the road or guiding you somewhere. But not letting your hand go after.

Armin went home that day more confused than before.

In my L1-acquisition class two weeks ago, our professor talked about how only 9% of the speech a baby hears is single words. Everything else is phrases and sentences, onslaughts of words and meaning!

Thus, a baby not only has to learn words and their meanings but also learn to segment lots of sounds INTO words. Doyouwantalittlemoresoupyesyoudoyoucutie. Damn.

When she talked about HOW babies learn to segment words our professor said, and I love it, "babies are little statisticians" because when listening to all the sounds, they start understanding what sound is likely to come after another vs which is not.

After discussing lots of experiments done with babies, our professor added something that I already knew somewhere in my brain but didn't know I know: All this knowledge is helpful when learning an L2 as well:

Listen to natives speaking their language. Original speed. Whatever speaker. Whatever topic.

It is NOT about understanding meaning. It is about learning the rhythm of the language, getting a feeling for its sound, the combination of sounds, the melody and the pronunciation.

Just how babies have to learn to identify single words within waves of sounds, so do adults learning a language. It will help immensely with later (more intentional) listening because you're already used to the sound, can already get into the groove of the languge.

Be as brave as a baby.

You don't even have to pay special attention. Just bathe in the sound of your target language. You'll soak it up without even noticing.
