"Oh, Owen!" Mei gasped, her voice full of exasperated affection as she practically bounced across the room, light as a sunbeam. "You always say things like that so casually—like 'Oh, I just tripped and accidentally fell into a whole battlefield!'”
She dropped to her knees beside him, her small hands fluttering over the wound like worried butterflies. "That is not a 'small' explosion! And this is not just a disagreement—this is your poor leg being very upset with you!" Mei pouted, puffing out her cheeks before sighing dramatically. "Owen, do you know how hard it is to get bloodstains out of cotton? It's, like, level ten difficult. And I don't even wanna talk about the floorboards!"
But even as she huffed and fussed, her fingers were already reaching for the first aid kit, which she definitely didn’t steal from his bathroom last time. "Honestly, you make my heart work overtime! Now sit still, you big doughnut." She shot him a glare as she dabbed at the wound, not as gently as usual "Y'know what else isn’t easy? Watching you come home all battered up like this again and again and again!”

The crimson liquid stained the pristine white cotton, blooming like an angry flower against the soft fabric. Owen sighed, a rumble that vibrated against the floorboards of his impeccably clean apartment. He hated blood. Not because of the violence it implied, no, Owen was intimately familiar with that particular dance. He hated it because every drop on his clothes or floor meant a lecture was coming.
He knew she was there, he felt her eyes on him before he even bothered looking up. Sitting on the edge of the plush sofa, his massive frame dwarfing the delicate cushions. “Just a disagreement," he mumbled, trying to minimize the jagged gash across his thigh. "A disagreement that required knives and a… small explosion.”

“Okay, I take it back. I’m not the one that’s being overdramatic, it’s you.” She teased back, feeling a little lighter at their playful banter. Chewing her lip thoughtfully, she considered his question and contemplated her answer as the different places she had dreamed of passed through her thoughts. “What about Scotland? I’ve always wanted to visit the Highlands.” Of course this was just a dream and she knew that she wouldn’t be packing up and leaving any time soon. “I thought I was finally beginning to learn from the best and really learn about the industry, you know? Instead I’m running around playing baby sitter and fetching coffee.”
A laugh fell from his lips. “It seems we’ve been spending too much time together, you’re rubbing off on me.” He replied with a wink. “Scotland sounds great. I love the accent and I’ve always wanted to find Nessie the Loch Ness Monster.” Jesse agreed, going along with her fantasy. The male sighed, feeling for his friend. “That’s normal, though. It sucks, but it is normal. These jerks just take advantage, anything to make life easier for them. They’ll see your persistence though, and it’ll pay off. I know it will. You’re great at what you do. They just need to see that.”

Kai had barely exhaled the first lungful of smoke when he noticed the shift in her. She wasn’t saying anything, but the tension between them—it was different out here. Less noise, less space to hide behind. He could feel it now, the kind of crackling energy that hung between them. Not exactly anger anymore, but something hotter, more raw.
He wasn’t surprised when she snatched the cigarette from his hand, tossing it over her shoulder. The gesture was unexpected, but not unwelcome. He watched her, eyebrows raised, as her hands slipped around his neck and pulled him in. No hesitation. No words. Just action.
His breath caught, the urgency of the kiss catching him off guard for a moment, but he was quick to respond, his hands finding her waist, pulling her closer as he kissed her back with the same intensity. She wasn’t just trying to shut him up—she was trying to erase whatever was left between them. It was the kind of kiss that made everything else feel irrelevant. The world was quiet now. All that mattered was the heat of their skin, the rush of breath, and the unmistakable thrum of whatever this was.
to say she couldn't pinpoint him was an understatement. the crazy way she just wanted to argue with him and feel the heat rise between them, sparks firing left right and center. she had never experienced anything like it. normally when a guy pissed her off it stayed just as that, she wouldn't engage in it unless she absolutely had to, but in this case she wanted to. the moment she stepped outside and let the chill rise goosebumps over her skin she felt less enclosed, and more free without the atmosphere surrounding them. just a few people smoking and chatting outside and the night sky brimming with stars above them.
pia wondered whether he would follow her but she had a sense that he would. whether he too wanted to be in denial about what was going on between them he could sense it just as much as her. not that you'd actually hear her utter those words outloud. when his figure shifted from the shadows into the light of the secluded area she felt rather smug, but it didn't show on her features. instead she watched him carefully as he lit his cigarette, remaining quiet as he took his first drag before she swiftly removed it from his hand. tossing it over her shoulder her hands worked to move around his own and behind the back of his neck to pull him into a kiss of complete urgency. anything to shut him up at this point.
"Well, you sure know how to make a girl blush. You don't look so bad yourself, handsome."

Jacey grinned as she listened to him rant, not that he didn’t have a valid point with all his concerns, it was just that in her job she was used to having to make the best of a situation and make do with what you had so being short staffed wasn’t anything new to her. If anything working with children had made her pretty easy going as a person. “Oh come on, it’s not that bad. Look at it this way, you get to stay in a beautiful place that you don’t have to pay for. Free food and my company for the summer.” She nudged his shoulder playfully. “Everything is going to be fine, we’ll figure it out and besides it’s for a good cause remember? This is the only holiday some of these kids will get and it’s a chance for them to get away from things going on at home.”
Asher took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down. Jacey had a point, the kids were the reason they were doing this. They were there to give the children a chance to experience something they might not have otherwise. And he couldn't deny that the location was stunning, with a crystal-clear lake and towering trees surrounding the campsite. "Okay, you're right. We'll figure it out," he said, smiling at Jacey. “And if we don’t, well, maybe I’ll just sneak off in the middle of the night and leave you with all of the screaming brats.”
There was a beat of hesitation. "I...I don't know." He muttered, his guilt pressing down on his shoulders.

“So, the camp is supposed to open tomorrow, but at the moment we only have 4 camp counsellors, one cook and one nurse. No one knows who is in charge - and did I mention the kids are coming tomorrow?” Asher ranted, feeling more than a little stressed. He wondered how he wounded up in this position as a Summer Camp Counsellor, but then he remembered the other had pressured him into the position. “Remind me why I let you convince me to do this?”
Winter rolled her eyes. "Does this mean you're kicking me out?" She asked, raising a brow not even bothering to explain herself.
"You realize that this is considered breaking and entering right? Just because you're my friend doesn't mean you can steal room cards and help yourself to a room for the night."
