I want Gem to win Secret Life soooo bad
Not just because She Slays, although that’s absolutely part of the reason. My girl wants blood, and the Secret Keeper happily obliged, she deserves to be covered in it as she roars a victory cry at the skies above.
But ALSO
Just listen
Gem didn’t just come into this game with murder in mind, she didn’t just show up and start killing people right and left
No, no, she came in with a strategy
Every single step Gem has taken in this game, every decision she has made - even the most seemingly unhinged and mindless and bloodthirsty - has been calculated and deliberate and made with the long game in mind.
Right away, she teamed up with two VERY strong players. Scott, a previous winner known for being very skilled and surviving a ling time, and Impulse who has consistently improved over the course of these games and has the motivation to win, but is also capable of staying calm in tight spots and thinking things through and is generally not known to throw away his alliances or waste any advantages he gets. Together, the three of them make for a strong team unlikely to fall apart even as the rest of the server collapses. They make each other stronger not weaker. Gem could not have picked two better teammates to run with.
And NOT ONLY THAT
Gem has been networking. She’s been nice and friendly to start with, doing her tasks and flying under the radar, making deals and getting other people to do the really dangerous work like fighting the dragon. Even when she started to get her hands dirty, she did it with a smile and coaxed more players to join her in the chaos and generally avoided making herself look like the obvious villain. If Gem had gotten the task to “be the bad guy of the server” she probably would have found a way to spin it in her favor and make her actions endearing rather than aggravating. That’s not an accident. That’s a ploy. She has fully weaponized her nice and cheerful nature, and it’s working, and it’s a beautiful thing to behold.
Gem knows how to play this game. She’s going into the finale from a very strong position with nearly (or over?) fifty hearts, a defensible base, enchanted gear, two loyal teammates, and a whole server full of people who have either been killed by her or seen their allies killed/recruited by her. She is undoubtedly one of the strongest players, but she is not the most reviled, so it’s unlikely that the server will team up against her, which might be the only way to take her down at this point. She’s too smart to fall for traps (we hope) and too skilled to fall to straight PVP (unless it’s accidental Scar). At this point, Gem has very little to fear. Things do tend to get chaotic in the finale, people and circumstances can turn on a dime, but if she keeps with her current strategy, Gem stands a very real chance of being the last player standing. There are a tiny handful of other players that I think could stand against her, but again, it all depends on the circumstances and the heat-of-the-moment decisions made by the players.
Listen, even if Gem doesn’t win, no one can deny that she has played the game well. But I want Gem to win. She earned this win.
We’ve had the Sun, the Stars, the Moon, and whatever the hell Martyn was (Mars, I think?)
Now it’s Gem’s time to shine. It’s her time to rise.
Let her bring the Dawn.

i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.
there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.
anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.
A Better World - create an alternate history timeline
Alter Ego - abandonware birth-to-death life simulator game
Seedship - text-based game about colonizing a new planet
Sandboxels or ThisIsSand - free-falling sand physics games
Little Alchemy 2 - combine various elements to make new ones
Infinite Craft - kind of the same as Little Alchemy
ZenGM - simulate sports
Tamajoji - browser-based tamagotchi
IFDB - interactive fiction database (text adventure games)
Written Realms - more text adventure games with a user interface
The Cafe & Diner - mystery game
The New Campaign Trail - US presidential campaign game
Money Simulator - simulate financial decisions
Genesis - text-based adventure/fantasy game
Level 13 - text-based science fiction adventure game
Miniconomy - player driven economy game
Checkbox Olympics - games involving clicking checkboxes
BrantSteele.net - game show and Hunger Games simulators
Murder Games - fight to the death simulator by Orteil
Cookie Clicker - different but felt weird not including it. by Orteil.
if you're ever thinking about making a niche project that only a select number of individuals will be nerdy enough to enjoy, keep in mind i've been playing some of these games off and on for 20~ years (Alter Ego, for example). quite literally a lifetime of replayability.
the idea of consuming two conflicting things that promise to do the opposite of each other has always been hilarious to me. there’s a liquid shot-based sleep aid called 6 hour sleep and as soon as I saw it i immediately imagined mixing it and a 5 hour energy together for a 1 hour nap
Its obvious to me when people who post about canaries in mines have never met a canary. Like yeah the miners had a special device to revive the canary because canaries are one of the most adorable creatures on the planet and they make adorable little chirping sounds and honestly probably loved the sounds of machinery and people talking so it was probably loud and friendly with the workers. Whatever though maybe meet a canary sometime and youd understand
“average person eats 3 spiders a year” factoid actualy just statistical error. average person eats 0 spiders per year. Spiders Georg, who lives in cave & eats over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
Reblog this if it’s okay to DM you and shoot the friendship shot.
So Seattle (and all of the Puget Sound actually) have a program to let youths under 18 ride transit free and I think that we should do that with every transit system actually
i will eat only sometimes, but rest assured (most)energy drinks are an automatic yes.
