HOW THE FUCK DID SHEN JIU LOSE TO DOOF? BRUH DOOF HAS FULFILLING RELATIONSHIPS AND PEOPLE WHO CARE FOR HIM SO MUCH. SHEN JIU HAS NO ONE (qi-ge fumbled too hard to be considered don't you dare @me) AND HE WAS A SLAVE AND CSA VICTIM?

PROPAGANDA UNDER THE CUT: [SPOILERS AND POSSIBLE TRIGGERS AHEAD]

SHEN JIU//ORIGINAL SHEN QINGQIU:

"Man, where do I start. TL;DR Every time he tries to defy what he believes to be his "inherently evil + unlovable nature" and do something good, horrible things happen to him As a child, he was among a troupe of kids owned by human traffickers. Two of these kids nearly get trampled in the streets. Shen Jiu cares very much about one of these kids (Yue Qi), so he runs in and stabs the horse about to trample them in the leg and saves their lives. Consequence: the other kid IMMEDIATELY rats him out to the horse owner (the Qius) and Shen Jiu is sold to them where he endures copious physical and (implied) sexual abuse for years. He eventually kills the perpetrators and burns the manor down, but he lets the women go, notably the sister of the main perpetrator; she didn't know what was being done to him and thus was an unknowing safe space for him. Consequence: she thinks he did it for no reason 'after they were so kind to him' and becomes his enemy, trying to hunt him down. Shen Jiu finds Yue Qi again. Yue Qi promised to come back for him to rescue him from the Qius and never did. When asked, Yue Qi gives no reason for not coming back. So from Shen Jiu's perspective, the consequence for saving Yue Qi is getting abandoned at the Qius BY Yue Qi (the best person he knows). This gives him (more) trust issues and cements his negative self-image of being "born bad". Shen Jiu tries to save his martial brother, who he has a bad relationship with. He lives. Consequence: martial brother thinks Shen Jiu was trying to kill him. Shen Jiu tries to save the same martial brother AGAIN. He dies. Consequence: EVERYONE thinks Shen Jiu killed him. Shen Jiu gets replaced by the actual main character transmigrating into him. That's not really consequence-of-his-good-deed, it's just--everyone hates him for acting like a spoiled young master even though he's literally an ex-slave, and THEN when he's replaced by an ACTUAL spoiled young master they all like him better. Everyone notices he's "changed", but no one notices he's gone. Also, because of his past, he is uncomfortable around men, and goes to brothels to sleep soundly near women. He gets a reputation as a lecher."

"Everything. TW: slavery, abuse, torture, mutilation Originally a child slave, who sacrificed himself to save his best friend from dying and ended up sold to a horribly abusive household. Said best friend tried to break him out multiple times but failed, and eventually had to leave, promising he would come back for Shen Jiu once he became stronger. Shen Jiu waited for three years, enduring abuse and dehumanization until it finally became too much and he snapped, murdering the young master who had bought him as well as the rest of the household's men, but sparing the young master's sister who he had been betrothed to. He then became apprenticed to a rogue cultivator, who told him that because of his age and the abuse he endured, all of his cultivation potential had been wasted. This rogue cultivator just taught him how to Do Crimes and also mistreated him. He reunited with his former best friend, Yue Qi, a year later, after he had just finished killing several of Yue Qi's fellow disciples, and killed his master in order to keep him from killing Yue Qi. Shen Jiu had thought Yue Qi had died, but it turned out he had gone on to become head disciple of the foremost cultivation sect, now known as Yue Qingyuan. Even though Yue Qingyuan got Shen Jiu a place within the sect, he didn't explain why he never came back, and so Shen Jiu resented Yue Qingyuan, but even more he resented himself, believing that he was garbage unworthy of being saved. Eventually, Shen Jiu, now Shen Qingqiu, became a peak lord of the sect, and his bitterness festered so that he continued the cycle of abuse with his own disciples, including one named Luo Binghe, who would actually turn out to be half heavenly demon and insanely OP. After mistreating Luo Binghe for years, the boy's demonic heritage was revealed, and Shen Qingqiu threw him off a cliff into the endless abyss (basically literal hell). Five years later, Luo Binghe came back seeking revenge, and tore Shen Qingqiu's reputation to shreds with false accusations, ultimately imprisoning him and brutally torturing him, tearing off his limbs, eye, and tongue. Luo Binghe used Shen Qingqiu's torn-off legs to set a trap for Yue Qingyuan, the one person he hadn't been able to defeat yet, and then killed him by shooting him with so many arrows that he fell into pieces. Luo Binghe then brought Yue Qingyuan's broken sword back to Shen Qingqiu's cell, and basically left him to rot with the only thing left of his friend, who had died in order to keep that long-overdue promise that Shen Qingqiu had desperately wanted him to just let go of at this point. Later on, we find out that Yue Qingyuan didn't forget about him, but had instead been severely injured and locked in a cave for a year because he had cultivated too fast so that he could get back to Shen Jiu, and by the time he got out, Shen Jiu was already gone and presumed dead..." "... If that isn't tragic enough, the main character of the book transmigrates into Shen Qingqiu's body during the main story, while Shen Qingqiu is still peak lord and Luo Binghe is still his disciple. Shen Jiu's spirit goes away to who knows where, and later on Yue Qingyuan tells the MC, in Shen Qingqiu's body, the reason he hadn't come back-- but Shen Jiu still never gets to hear it, and is effectively already dead here."

i have barely read tgcf but i think ling wen and shen jiu could be friends LOL both are very competent ppl plus sj prefers interacting with women after all..... romantically tho i cannot imagine anyone from any mxtx novel (or anywhere at all maybe) with sj until he goes thru intensive therapy 😭

LOOK AT THIS BIG BRAIN PERSON and yea...romatically ling wen x shen jiu doesn't work for me but I can see these two overworked bbys ranting and well SJ wouldn't even glance back at anyone from MXTX or actually anywhere until he goes to therapy and realizes that well not everyone with potentially traumatize him mxtx pls give him a happy ending/ therapy he deserves it he’s been thru enough 😭😭😭😭

ACK LIUJIU FEELS. this reminds of that one au where after liu qingge died and became a ghost that is tied to shen jiu. Gawd that was sad. Ok enough with my liujiu angst the art btw is simply beautiful and I’m starting the first chapter let’s see how it goes
