PETITION TO CHANGE BACK TO THE OLD UI. THIS IS A SIN
here we go girls
making a third life/wings of fire crossover AU (and writing a fic I’ll be posting here)
The main gist is that Grainshifter was a Nightwing born with animus magic under a full moon, giving him mind reading as well (for those who don’t know, animus magic has no limits. You can do ANYTHING) and the Nightwings, bastards that they are, take complete advantage of him and use him to make themselves essentially gods among the dragon species, taking the role of Watchers in this story. Generations and generations pass to the point where Nightwings are more legend than reality, as they prefer to stay hidden and feed on the strong emotions of the dragons below. After many years of being a Watcher, Grainshifter requests some time living as a normal dragon so he can experience what it’s like to live.. not in god status. His request is accepted, and he is sent down to attend Jade Mountain academy disguised as a Skywing dragonet. Here he meets all of the third life cast (excluding Martyn who comes in later) and after graduating, he returns to godhood.
Around this time, the Watchers have discovered that fear can be harvested using these cool death games! Wowee! Things are going swimmingly for awhile until the Watchers decide it would be a fantastic birthday gift idea for their special little boy to create a death game featuring all his old friends from his time at the academy :)
Grainshifter is not pleased jbJDJJXJXK
He instead uses what little influence he has (his magic was restricted at a young age before he had the autonomy to understand what was going on) to place himself in the death game in an act of somewhat childish defiance. Here he learns just how horrifying the things the Watchers are doing as he lives out the fear that they feed on. Also there’s this weird Seawing that Grainshifter doesn’t know who seems EXTRA miserable to be here, that’s odd.
This was just a little info dump on the main story, feel free to ask more lore questions or clarifications, I’m just getting started on this and I’m excited to continue!
holy shit
there is something so chilling about how many times someone screamed “I need the time back!” or “I need 30 minutes back!” while going for a kill. they’re all determined to get a kill now, but what about when their timer runs out? how many people are going to run out of time mid chase? how many people are going to yell “I need more time!” and just. die right in the middle of yelling it? when do they start turning on each other in order to survive?
when does “I need time!” become something screamed in pure desperation, pure agony as they all become relentless, ruthless in their killing in a need to survive?
Season 1: Watchers take interest in Martyn
Season 2: Martyn fails to serve the Watchers and they say he's more of a Listener
Season 3: Watchers stop talking to him
Season 4: Martyn teams up with only the one person they hate the most other than Grian (Scott)
Can I... talk about the theory that winners help craft the next game?
Because, and I really can not say this enough, it puts So Much into perspective.
Everything starts out Normal. Three lives, simple, cut and dry, there hasn't been a winner yet. No one to help craft the game. (And there's something to be said about how simple it really was. Not even a real expectation of the world becoming pvp or combative. No idea of the war to come)
Then Grian wins. The green killer, the man who vowed his first life to the one whose life he took. The next game the boogie man is born. A mechanic that allows and, in fact, demands, a green kill. People can trade lives back and forth, currency and debt wrapped up in one. (can we still be friends? Said the red partner. A life time later and reds are hostile, alone. Maybe it's an answer: No. Not anymore)
Scott wins this time. He refuses to play the game. He will not kill his team, he will love and he will do so fiercely and with all of himself. The next game people are attached through to their very souls. Every bit of damage to one soul is done to its twin. There is no boogeyman. (There is no way for a widow to be left without their love)
Pearl wins and she wins a blood bath. Spent the game draped in red, only wolves for company. Sitting in her tower, shivering in ice, maybe she wanted it to end. To see where it would. Limited life rewards you for killing, limited life has a clock tick tick ticking down, you always no how long you have. A curse yes, but a blessing too.
Now It's Martyn's turn.
And what a turn it is.
Keep your secrets, says the disloyal man, keep them well. Everything hurts, everything Matters, says the man fracturing with every loss. (What if we could love each other without hurting? Says The Hand, who never wanted to be coated in blood)
More importantly, Martyn has always seen the watchers below the surface. Now, they're right here in front of him. Something that could almost... be rebelled against, no? Something that someone else could finally point to and say: hey, hey isn't that familiar?
There are some duos in the Life Series that will always be loyal to each other no matter what.
First off there’s the most obvious Bdubs and Etho. This is definitely more one sided on Bdubs half as he’ll do anything to do back to Etho but even then Etho still favours him quite a bit more than others. By this I mean he’ll still agree to teaming with Bdubs or anything of the sorts if he asks and as seen in Double Life will even be salty if not. (3rd Life: I’m not too sure on this because I haven’t evaluated the series as much as the other but please do tell me if there’s something, Last Life: Team BEST, Double Life: Jealous Etho, Limited Life: Betrayer Bdubs)
Then theres Ren and Martyn the undying king and hand. This is less obvious than the previous one but still SO OBVIOUS. The two of them will also always get drawn to each other in any given circumstance. Now this might be because of the huge bond they shared in the first series or just because they’re both a fan of the dramatics and love good storytelling, but either way if you team with one of them eventually the information will get shared to the other. (3rd Life…well you know, Last Life: Shadow Alliance, Double Life: that one meet up they had summoning Pearl and from then forth)
Scott and Cleo is the next one because after Last Life both of them have teamed up in every season and have done a proper allyship. This one is more influenced by the competitive nature of the two players and not trusting other people hence why they always resort back to each other. But in a happy way instead of being forced to. They also have a similar sense of humor which helps in them being a good duo overall and allowing them to team up that many times. (3rd Life: widows alliance, Last Life: after Cleo’s betrayal, Double Life: chosen soulmates, Limited Life: secret alliances)
Tell me if I’m forgetting any duos that’ve been together since the start because I’m sure to have
maybe I’ll do one on duos that always end up fighting next…
AAAAAA I LOVE THIS AAAAAAAAAAAAA
Tango sits on the peak of the burned-out farmhouse roof, silent. For once, he is not blazing with anger or explosive with emotion. His face is impassive and stiff, and his hair flickers a quiet red.
A voice from behind, soft and stilted. “Can I… sit with you?”
It’s Jimmy. Tango says nothing.
Behind him, Jimmy sits on the opposite peak, facing Tango’s back. “I…” he starts. “I know it really isn’t worth anything, not now, but I’m sorry.”
