it’s quick to write and it pays his bills so well he’s able to actually work on a new novel in secret. he publishes it under a different name. it has kickass world building, a tender gay romance and tasteful, well-thought out sex scenes. nobody figures out it’s written by airplane shooting towards the sky. not even cucumber-bro - not at first. he leaves a very heartfelt review, expressing his delight at finding something well written with a great protagonist and fascinating monsters that doesnt become a disgusting tropey mess like ANOTHER web novel he could mention!! and then there’s another message tacked on, shyly admitting that the romance has helped him come to terms with his own sexuality. airplane is equal parts genuinely touched and cackling with trollish glee. he HAS to reveal his identity. the resulting meltdown goes down in fandom history. airplane gets a best friend and ( maybe?? ) a boyfriend out of it.

Okay so, i was at school in homeroom and i was wondering something- people outside of america, do you also have your own versions of the pledge of allegiance? This might be a really stupid question but I’ve honestly been staying super disconnected from everything outside of my room the past few years. In the case that you don’t know what the f/// im talking about, every day in the middle of the school day the pledge of allegiance is played over the loud speakers to the whole school, and depending on how lenient your teacher is you may be forced to stand facing whatever american flag is in the room, and either stay in absolute silence until its over, or recite the pledge along with whatever student body member was chosen to say it that day. I didn’t do middle school so personally i don’t know what they do in middle school, but in every single grade leading up to the last year of elementary school we were forced to stand still and silent facing the flag and reciting the pledge. And in Highschool we generally aren’t forced to stand usually, but sometimes you’ll get a class with a teacher who stands for the flag or kids just standing up in total silence facing the flag with their hands resting on their chests above their hearts. Its like, super eerie sometimes. Is this normal???? Or is america just weird like that????

This section of my fic is really cool to me, because Tommy learns the exact wrong lesson than I think someone reading this scene would, and it's so indicative of his major character flaw which is believing that he is the main character. He acts like a main character the whole fic, untouchable, no one would dare make him face any consequences. And it results in him barreling into a plan that results in the people he decided were the good guys killing someone who was. A friend. At the end of the day, Cadaver was only a friend.

Quackity is arguably a bad person, but he's not evil, he's just the antagonist to Tommy's story, and as such he has a different philosophy. And I think reading this scene you get a full picture that Quackity's ideas aren't "the bad ideas", they're just ideas that you can choose a side on. Tommy isn't wrong either, he's just got different ideas. But his takeaway is that he needs to be more decisive, more firm in his beliefs, find his own place at the table.

In terms of the viceduo of it all, Tommy and Quackity are both defined by being "powerless" while having a lot of agency. And as the first hero and villain in this fic, I think you get a sense that they are crazy important, while also not being nearly as powerful as their agency indicates. The chip on his shoulder is obviously an allusion to Las Nevadas, and this difference between them is that Quackity is willing to play odds, and let some things work out on their own, whereas Tommy needs security and certainty. He's an orphan looking for his home, at the end of the day.

one of the major appeals of cumplane to me is that shen qingqiu has all these impressive and interesting guys chasing after him and willing to wait on him hand and foot. but the one guy who he somehow favors the most is the overworked loser he's always fighting with???
