Seimei | Shigeru Umebayashi (梅林茂)
Onmyoji I and II OST
In the past couple of months I have become an ardent fan of the figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu for numerous reasons. I admire his courage in the face of unimaginable pressure as an athlete, but above all, his ability to make the sport an art form in itself always renders me speechless. Of his routines, his free skate from last season with which he smashed the world records again and again (x, x) is still my favourite.
The music, of course, is a huge part of why the program is so critically acclaimed. It is a medley of soundtracks from the movies Onmyoji and Onmyoji II. It is a glorious mix of grandeur and tranquility, and Yuzuru’s elegant but powerful interpretation of the music just gets the blood pumping (check out this step sequence to bless your eyes). The percussion-heavy section which features the song Rambling God (荒ぶる神) is my favourite.
I have spent weeks hunting down the individual soundtracks because they are not easy to find without knowing Japanese, but I finally found them here! In the process I also found a whole treasure trove of other songs from the prolific composer Shigeru Umebayashi, and all his works are treasures.
Have a listen!

If you're a disabled young person, you've most likely been hit with the "pfft you think you're in pain now? Just wait til you're my age" bullshit from older people at least once. Everyone talks about how invalidating it is
But I haven't seen anybody mention how it's terrifying, too. Yes, I know health deteriorates with age. I know that old age is a disability unto itself. I know that the healthiest person alive will start getting aches and pains past the age of 40 and may even need mobility aids
I know all this stuff. And it always makes me think "yeah, if I can't walk without joint pain even while using mobility aids AT AGE 21, how painful will life be for me at the age where it gets painful for everyone?"
And it's hard not to feel like I'm doomed, y'know? Where most people get a period of health that they wish they appreciated more when they start to lose it, my starting point was a body that doesn't work properly and it's only gonna get worse from there. It's worse every fucking year.
TLDR stop telling disabled young people that their pain will only get worse to the point of being unimaginable as they age, WE FUCKING KNOW
I fucking love telling people nice things.
If you read this, go tell someone something nice. Text them. Whatever. I'm serious.
Be an unexpected, positive break in everything that's going on in this world.
“when life becomes maddeningly polite, think about me.”

If one more person tells me that over scoring is good actually as long as it's someone you like...
I don't know how many times I can explain that the over scoring can turn to under scoring the second they lose the judges' favor and that it screws everyone else over
