It was a quiet Sunday afternoon, and Gavi's family had gathered at his family home for one of their usual family gatherings, enjoying the warm holiday sunshine. It was an intimate gathering, just a warm lunch, loud conversations and laughter echoing throughout the property. But for Pablo, it was a rare opportunity, because between his busy football schedule and his dedication to the sport, these family gatherings became something he looked forward to, even if he was usually the quiet one, sitting on the sidelines.
Pablo was shy, especially around people he didn't know well. His family understood this, so they never pushed him too hard to be in the spotlight. As usual, he was quiet and observant, sticking to his comfort zone and talking to close relatives. But today was different.
His cousin Blanca had insisted that she would bring a friend with her today - someone Pablo had never met before. However, Blanca mentioned her in passing many times and that he would definitely like her.
That girl was you, you gladly accepted your friend's invitation, having nothing better to do, and her parents liked you very much, so you went with them.
The moment you arrived, Pablo felt something change. You stood in the doorway with Blanca, laughing at something that had just happened on the way. Your long, shiny hair flowed and fell freely around your shoulders. Your bright, expressive eyes scanned your surroundings and your infectious smile seemed to light up the entire room. You greeted his family members, being so casual.
You were confident, funny, and effortlessly charming. The moment Pablo saw you, his heart started beating faster. He found himself staring at you. He was surprised by how beautiful you were, not only physically, but also how you made everything around you seem brighter.
You weren't like the other girls Pablo had met. There was something about your presence, the way you moved with ease and grace, that suddenly made him realize how nervous he was. He wasn't even sure why he was so drawn to you, he couldn't even take his eyes off you.
"Hola Pablo!" Blanca greeted him with a wave.
Pablo blinked, suddenly realizing that his cousin and you were looking straight at him. He waved to you shyly, his heart racing. "Hola" he managed to say, his voice a little too quiet for his liking.
You smiled warmly at his shyness. “Hola, nice to meet you! I've heard so much about you” you said, giggling lightly, but your tone was friendly and casual.
The words sent a wave of heat through Pablo's chest. He tried to find something to say in response, but he froze. For the first time, words failed him.
Blanca immediately noticed his awkwardness. "Come on, Pablo, stop being so shy. We're all family here!" she shouted and you just giggled.
Pablo laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yes, sorry. I'm just a little tired from training earlier" he explained.
"But it's the holidays" Blanca frowned, looking at her cousin.
"I did the training on my own" he explained and she nodded, looking at him slightly suspiciously.
But you didn't let yourself be discouraged. “I understand that” you said with a smile that made Pablo's heart skip a beat. “I play a bit of football myself, so I know how exhausting it can be” you confessed reassuringly, winking at him before going to greet the others.
From that moment on, everything seemed to change. Every time you looked at him, Pablo felt a surge of confidence he didn't know he had. It was as if something clicked inside him. He wasn't the same shy guy anymore. With each passing minute, he found himself speaking more freely, laughing more easily. As they sat down to eat, he joked with the others, even teasing Blanca, who seemed a little surprised at how at ease she felt now. She didn't recognize her cousin.
Pablo had always been reserved, but with you it was different. He wasn't just shy Pablo anymore, he found himself leaning forward during conversations, maintaining eye contact and participating in jokes. It was like you discovered a new side to him - one that wasn't afraid to step into the spotlight. You made him feel seen in a way no one else had ever done before.
Gavi became overly attentive, offering to help you with anything, asking if you needed anything, offering you drinks, sitting next to you. His family noticed the change in him - the quiet, shy Pablo was now the most talkative and outgoing person in the room, especially in your presence.
He even dared to talk to you to get to know you better, but the tremble in his voice betrayed how nervous he felt around you. You smiled at him and then started a conversation about football, and after a while the boy relaxed and started asking you about it, which you didn't complain about at all, you liked it.
Then, for the rest of the afternoon, Pablo couldn't help but steal glances at you. Every time your eyes met, he felt a spark in his chest and so did you, feeling yourself blush slightly as you realized that Pablo had been paying attention to you the whole time.
There was no hiding the fact that your friend's cousin was a handsome guy, very handsome indeed. You've seen him many times on TV, Instagram or TikTok and have always admired his flawless appearance. He was definitely your type, you liked him a lot, but you didn't want to do anything against your friend.
However, every time you met his eyes, you smiled widely at him, not knowing that it was like a wave of warmth that washed over him. He didn't want this day to end. He wanted to keep talking to you, laughing, admiring you, feeling the strange, thrilling excitement of being in your presence.
You didn't realize how much you inhabited his head. The rest of his family also noticed his change. His cousins exchanged knowing glances with each other, and Aurora even nudged him playfully.
"Looks like someone's in love here" Aurora whispered loud enough for everyone to hear, smiling from ear to ear as the others laughed.
Pablo's face turned red and he immediately tried to turn away. "Shut up" he muttered, looking away, but it was too late. The teasing had already begun.
"Oh, look at him" his Uncle Juan said, smiling. "He was so shy at first, but now he's the life of the party. Who's the lucky one, huh?” he laughed.
The teasing continued and soon everyone was making fun of him for his sudden burst of confidence, even his parents!
Everyone was laughing, but there was warmth in it - no one was cruelly mocking him, they were just amused at how his behavior had changed so suddenly, and it was all thanks to you. Pablo took all the jokes and even started joking along with them, admitting that he was madly in love with you. The teasing doesn't bother him anymore because he knows he's on the right track. His self-confidence increases as he realizes that being himself around you feels incredibly natural, and he wasn't previously aware of how much he needed it.
Blanca also noticed her cousin's change, so she walked up to him shaking her head, "Wow, Pablo, I think you've become a completely different person since Y/N showed up, huh?" she said half jokingly, but her eyes sparkled with mischief.
Pablo just laughed nervously, trying to stay calm, but inside his mind was racing. Did you feel the same? Did he really fall in love with you that quickly? He had no idea, but he couldn't stop his heart from beating faster when you laughed or when your hands brushed against each other as you reached for the same dish.
The little moments you shared between you made his heart swell. To him, you had a magical aura around you that attracted him like a magnet. When he looked at you in full sunlight, he sighed silently, unable to look at you. He thought you looked absolutely beautiful that day, wearing plain denim shorts and a pink, square-neck, short-sleeved blouse.
He felt that you had won his heart that day, without any real effort, and he couldn't ignore it. Because you noticed him in a way no one else had before. You looked at him as a normal person, not as a famous footballer who plays for a top club. You saw him as Pablo, not Gavi, and he appreciated that.
As the evening drew to a close and the last members of the family gathered their things to leave, Pablo stopped at the door, his heart still beating like crazy after everything that had happened. The teasing, the laughter, the way you made him feel like more than just the shy, quiet kid in the room, it all seemed a blur. He couldn't shake the warmth in his chest every time you smiled at him.
He only just realized it now, but he was really starting to care about you in a way that left him breathless.
You stood by the door, talking to Blanca as the last few guests said their goodbyes. Pablo watched you from the corner of the room, his mind still taking in how natural everything seemed. The confidence he found next to you today was unlike anything he had ever experienced, even on the pitch. It was as if in just a few hours he had become a different person, a person who could laugh freely, tell jokes and hold his own in conversation. It's all thanks to you. He never thought he would ever feel this way.
Blanca looked over her shoulder and caught Pablo's eye. She raised an eyebrow, smiling at her cousin. "Will you say goodbye?" she asked, her voice teasing but quiet enough for only Pablo to hear.
Pablo's heart jumped into his throat. He stood there, deep in thought, not even realizing that it was time for everyone to leave. He shifted nervously, suddenly unsure how to act. Is it just a fleeting moment? Did he really have a chance with you? Could he somehow make his feelings known without sounding completely ridiculous?
Before he could talk himself out of it, he took a step forward, his feet moving on their own. His palms were sweaty and his heart was pounding hard in his chest, but he couldn't let this opportunity slip away. He had to say something. Anything.
Blanca walked away, leaving the two of you alone, and you turned to face him as he approached, your warm smile lighting up your face when you saw him. “Hola Pablo” you said, your voice as nice as ever, it warmed his heart. “Today was really nice. Thanks for meeting” you announced.
Pablo took his breath away for a moment. He could barely think clearly, but he forced himself to speak. "Yes...yes, of course. I had a great time too. I...I mean, honestly, I don't remember the last time I had this much fun" he chuckled awkwardly, feeling his face getting hot.
Your smile widened and for a split second, it felt like the rest of the world disappeared. It was just the two of you in that quiet moment, and Pablo felt a surge of boldness. "Would you like to... go out sometime? Just the two of us?" his voice cracked slightly and he cursed himself for sounding so nervous before running his fingers through his hair.
Your gaze softened, and for a moment, Pablo wasn't sure what to expect. Did he say something bad? Is that too fast? But then your lips curved into a soft smile and his heart beat even faster.
“Yes, I would like to” you said in a warm and sincere voice. “I really would like to” you assured him, giggling slightly at his nervous attitude, although you were also nervous inside, even more than he was, but you didn't show it.
Relief washed over Pablo like a wave, but he didn't know what to do with the newfound confidence that washed over him. He cleared his throat, trying to calm down. “Okay, cool. I'll text you” he choked out, smiling awkwardly but realizing something. “Um, Y/N…” he turned to you awkwardly, and you signaled him that you were listening. “I can get your number?" he asked, scratching the back of his neck nervously.
You laughed quietly. “Yeah, sure” you said, scanning his face and a pleasant shiver ran down his spine.
He took the phone out of his pocket slightly clumsily, feeling how sweaty his hands were and nervously looking for the phone icon so you could add your number.
Once you handed it to him, he smiled gratefully, taking a deeper breath. "Thank you, I'll write to you" he said, looking down at the floor because he couldn't stand the intensity of your gaze any longer, and crimson shades took over his cheeks.
“Alright” you said, nodding. “I'll be waiting” you added more quietly, and Pablo looked back at your bright eyes, which sparkles danced in them. There was something playful and teasing in your tone of voice that made Pablo's pulse quicken.
As you turned to leave, Pablo instinctively took a step forward, reaching for the door. You both reached for the doorknob at the same time, and for a brief moment your fingers brushed against each other, sending sparks throughout your bodies. It was like an electric shock. Pablo froze, his heart pounding in his chest.
You looked up at him, your eyes shining with something he couldn't quite place. “It must be fate” you joked quietly, your voice playful as your fingers lingered for more than a moment.
Pablo swallowed, suddenly feeling a wave of courage he didn't know he had. "Yes" he whispered in a low voice. "I guess so" he added, chuckling nervously.
“See you later, Pablo” you said with a smile, walking slowly out the door.
“See you later, Y/N” he said to you, returning your smile.
You waved him away, joining Blanca and her parents, to which he, and others, waved back.
"Hopefully soon" he said to himself, then leaned against the doorframe.
The family chatter quieted down and Pablo stood there, watching you walk down the street with Blanca and her parents. His heart was still pounding, but he felt different now. Stronger. More alive.
Once he closed the door, he leaned against it, closed his eyes, and a smile spread across his face. Teasing, joking - it didn't matter. What mattered was that you saw him, really saw him, in a way no one else did.
For the first time, Pablo realized that his life would not always revolve around football. Maybe it was moments like this - moments where someone made him feel like he was enough. And as he stood there, replaying the scene from earlier in his mind over and over again, he knew one thing for sure - he couldn't wait to see where this new chapter with you would take him.

it was a cold day in kensington where you lived but you had to go to chelsea just for some errands. in the end you stumbled into a cute cafe on the edge of the road.
you don’t expect to see him. not today, not like this.
one second, you’re just going about your day, lost in your own world, and the next, you hear his voice. not through a phone speaker. not filtered by distance. but real, right there.
your brain takes a second to process it. because it’s one thing to facetime someone every day, to hear their voice in your ear at night, to recognize the way they laugh, the way they tease, the way they say your name like it belongs to them.
but it’s another thing entirely to see them in person.
you stop in your tracks, heart hammering, eyes scanning the cafe like you’re hallucinating. but no, he’s right there, standing near the counter, scrolling absentmindedly through his phone, completely unaware that you’re staring at him like the world just tilted on its axis.
you should say something. you should.
instead, your phone buzzes.
joão: what are you doing right now?
your breath catches. you glance up at him again. it’s so weird, seeing him like this, taller than you imagined, the way he shifts his weight from one foot to the other, how his hoodie is slightly oversized like it always is in your calls.
he still hasn’t noticed you.
nothing. why?
you watch as he reads it. he types for a second, then stops. then starts again.
joão: just wondering.
he lifts his head, eyes flicking up for just a second.
and that’s when it happens.
his gaze meets yours.
for a moment, neither of you move. you don’t breathe. he doesn’t either.
then, slowly, like he’s making sure you’re real, he lowers his phone.
‘no way,’ he murmurs.
you let out a breathless laugh, lost for words
his lips part slightly, like he doesn’t know whether to smile or freak out. ‘this is..’ he cuts himself off, shaking his head. ‘i was literally just texting you.’
you hold up your phone. ‘yeah. saw that.’
he laughs, rubbing a hand over his jaw. ‘okay, this is crazy.’
‘a little bit.’
‘like, what are the odds?’
‘apparently very low,’ you say, eyes still wide. ‘yet here we are.’
he lets out a disbelieving chuckle, then tilts his head at you, something softer in his expression now. ‘so… do we acknowledge that this is probably fate?’
you pretend to think. ‘hmm. or just a very, very weird coincidence.’
he smirks. ‘so, fate.’
you roll your eyes, but you’re smiling.
he takes a small step closer, hesitates for half a second, then grins. ‘hi.’
and just like that, you realise, this? whatever this is? it’s real. and it’s happening.

i don't think I've ever taken a shower so quickly in all my years of life, all because i woke up bizarrely late but it's not reason enough for me to leave the house without taking a bath. and i had to make a big effort to remember where i was going today, i only remembered that it was an important event but my mind busy with college can't remember everything.
but the post-it stuck to the fridge made me eat quickly and get to the car even faster. i completely forgot that today was reserved for my brother's bride, it's the day to help her choose her wedding dress and consequently the bridesmaids' dresses.
"i hope you're already arriving." the message she sent arrived on my cell phone a few seconds after i parked the car near the wedding dress atelier. my brother was with my cousins and some men i didn't know outside, which intrigued me. "what are you doing here?" i asked, approaching. "we'll try on the suits right after you guys." he replied and i nodded. "today is going to be a long day for you guys." i smiled and entered the place most loved by all brides. i hadn't even gone up the stairs when i heard laughter from the men outside "fabio, joão wants to be your brother-in-law." an unknown male voice shouted and more laughter was heard.
i found the comment funny even though i don't know who said it, much less who joão is. i just know that single life is really cool. even though i sometimes miss sleeping cuddled up with someone, but i don't think i have any intention of meeting anyone at my brother's wedding, unless mr. destiny has other plans.
"finally, i thought you would never arrive." i was greeted by my mother opening the door to the salon reserved for brides. her hands promptly grabbed my cheeks. "long time no see, huh?" i joked about the fact that i had spent the entire afternoon at her house yesterday. my mother just stuck out her tongue as an answer and pulled me into the room. my sister-in-law was already trying on a beautiful dress like cindelera's. she looked at me through the reflection in the mirror.
"what do you think?" she asked me. i was speechless. carol was so beautiful in that dress, she really looked like a princess. "it's already my favorite." she smiled and i could see her eyes welling up. "it's mine too." she said, wiping away the tears that had started to form. "i can't believe I've barely arrived and i'm already leaving." the other bridesmaids in the room laughed and carol rolled her eyes. "no way. i'll try on some others to make sure of my choice."
i pretended to snort as i sat on the edge of the couch. there are so many women in the room, my mother, her mother, carol's friends and cousins. i can't even imagine how many bridesmaids she will have. but my brother and she deserve a wedding worthy of royalty.
fabio is two years older than me and we have always been best friends, he knows more about my life than my mother. and i remember perfectly when he introduced us to carol, she is the sister-in-law of anyone's dreams.
"carol, may i come in?" three knocks on the door distracted my attention. most likely one of the boys sitting downstairs wants to speak to the bride. "of course joão, my favorite cousin." joão, the boy from a few minutes ago. i felt something strange when she said that. i involuntarily adjusted my posture and started to fiddle with the necklace around my neck. the door opened slowly, but soon revealed a tall, smiling male figure with brown hair. his gaze went straight to me, since i, sitting on the edge of the sofa, am the first thing anyone who opens the door will see.
he continued on his way towards the bride and i didn't try to hide the fact that i was following him with my eyes, something that my mother noticed "carol's cousin, isn't he cute?" i turned towards her with my eyes slightly widened, she nudged me and motioned for me to turn toward joão again. he was about to leave, but his eyes met mine before his fingers touched the doorknob and my mother gently motioned with her fingers for him to come to her. "mãe." i muttered.
"fabio introduced you to his sister, joão?" she pointed in my direction. "he told me when she passed by us a few minutes ago, but we haven't been introduced." he smiled at me. "nice to meet you, joão!" he extended his hand to me and i shook it. "nice to meet you joão, i'm yn." He didn't stop smiling which made me uncomfortable, he was causing me a very strange feeling "we'll see you later, your brother asked me to go get something with him." he commented "but again, it was nice to meet you." i received a wink that made me disconnect from the outside world, i didn't even see when he opened the door and left and didn't even heard what my mother just said.
it took carol three hours to make sure that the dress she tried on when she arrived was the right one. and it took us another two hours to choose the bridesmaids' dresses. the boys who were waiting for their turn to try on their suits walked past us with tired faces, but i couldn't help but notice that joão was no longer there. i believe we will only see each other again on the wedding day.
two months later.
i don't know how i ended up in a chelsea match and still sitting almost next to the players on the bench. in fact, i don't know why i accepted my brother's invitation, seriously. there we are, me and five other friends of his, in the middle of the excited fans of the english team.
but the urge to leave disappeared from my body when the players entered the field to warm up. on the screen appeared someone i had seen only once two months ago, joão, carol's cousin. i was surprised, he doesn't look like a football player. i swore he was a student on one of those super competitive courses. joão félix, chelsea's number 14 hasn't left my head since i met him and he is definitely the reason behind my presence here today, my brother commented that he won the tickets from someone.
something that was confirmed when the game ended and the fans began to empty the stadium, but my brothers and friends didn't move a muscle "aren't we leaving?" i asked my brother who denied "let's wait for joão." i swallowed hard and settled into the seat, admiring the view of the field and thinking about joão.
"are you really mad about the game, man?" i was taken out of my thoughts by my brother's voice, when i looked at him, joão was sitting behind him. i smiled simply at the player when he looked at me, he smiled back but there was disappointment written all over his face. chelsea drew with a team i didn't know and joão missed an incredible chance to score the tiebreaker.
"let's go home. drink and forget about this game." one of my brother's friends said and joão put his hands on his own face. "i don't wanna" he said before taking a deep breath. i stood up with the intention of saying goodbye, i felt it was time to go. "it was nice spending the night here with you guys, but I'm going now." i got up from the bench with my coat wrapped around my arm. "how are you leaving?" my brother asked. "by bus." i answered and he nodded. "don't you want me to take you?" he asked and i quickly refused. "i can take you, it's too late for you to go alone." joão surprisingly offered to take me. he said this as he got up from the bench "great idea! joão is a great driver, you'll be fine." my brother also got up and patted me twice on the shoulder.
i nodded to joão, i hate going home alone at night. even if i go from here to who knows where, i'm completely uncomfortable being in a stranger's car but even more nervous because this stranger is the portuguese player.
we both said goodbye to the guys and i followed joão to the garage. we passed some players on the way and the portuguese guy said goodbye to everyone. but i have to say that i freaked out inside when we got to his car and he opened the door for me. my gaze went from the door to him, a slight smile appeared on his face "thank you" the thanks came out almost like a whisper.iI watched in the rearview mirror as he walked behind the car and sat in the driver's seat. "where are we going?" he asked as he opened the gps on the car's dashboard. "do you know the address of my mother's house?" he nodded. "yes, i do. i go there with fabio a lot." i smiled. "you can drop me off there then. it's closer than dropping me off at home." he nodded, "but it's okay to drop you off at home if you want, i can go there. where is it?" he questioned "no need, i don't want to bother you! and anyway i would have to go to my mother's house tomorrow, you're already going to save me from having to take the subway." i laughed "are you sure?" i nodded and he put my mother's house address into the gps.
"now i understand why i never saw you at the parties that carol organizes." the car stopped at the red light a few seconds after we left the stadium. "why?" he looked at me while resting his head on the window. "because you must always be busy with games and practices." he smiled, a wide smile this time. "yeah, most of the time i arrive late at her events." i grimaced. "you'll never see me staying late at places, i'm a person who goes home very early." green light. "really, i've never seen you at the events and if i did, i would definitely remember, your face is not at all forgettable." i turned my head towards my window, embarrassed "i'll take that as a compliment." he tapped his fingers lightly on the steering wheel. "it's a compliment."
I bit my lip after letting out a shy laugh "thank you." i thanked him awkwardly "it's a great time to say that when we met on the day of choosing the wedding clothes, i could hear someone say that you wanted my brother's brother-in-law." he laughed "i knew you heard, bruno almost grabbed a megaphone to be heard by the entire united kingdom." another red light, this time his hands went to his face "all this because i said a wow when you left."
"I liked knowing that i messed with you." i said before thinking "yeah, i was really surprised that i couldn't get it out of my head." i looked at him out of the corner of my eye "would you be disappointed if i told you that i have a boyfriend?" joão looked at me wide-eyed but i signaled for him to pay attention to the traffic, the cars in front of him had already moved. "do you have?" he became apprehensive "no, i'm just kidding." he chuckled as he placed his hand on his chin. i don't know where i got the courage to flirt like that.
my mother's house is relatively close to the blues house. we arrived quickly and i was a little disappointed, i admit. now that things were starting to happen. joão got out of the car with me and walked me to the door "thanks for the ride." i dared to kiss him on the cheek, his cheeks blushed and his gaze remained fixed on the floor for a few seconds "can we see each other again before the wedding?" he asked "yes, whenever you want." he gave me his cell phone so i could add my number and so i did "good night joão, thanks again." i put the key in the doorknob and saw the player slowly walking away "it was a pleasure! let me know when you need a ride." he approached the car "bye, good night!" he honked at me before disappearing from my field of vision.
i walked into my house and nearly melted as i closed the door. "i think I'm going to get a new son-in-law." my mother appeared out of nowhere. "it was just a ride." she laughed at me. "today it's a ride, tomorrow a proposal." i just laughed, rolling my eyes. unfortunately, I just saw him and i've already started counting the days until i see him again.

The studio was quiet except from the light hum of lights and the soft rustle of fabric as she adjusted the new kits on the rack. She dusted her hands on her jeans, feeling the normal nerves she always got before a shoot. Today, it wasn’t just any shoot, it was one for Barca - and this sessions focus was on Alejandro Balde. His name alone sent her heart racing.
Alejandro stepped in after a few minutes, approaching her. ‘Hi,’ he said, ‘You must be the photographer for today, i’m Alejandro.’
She nodded quickly, fidgeting with her camera strap. ‘Yeah, I am. Nice to meet you.’
‘Nice to meet you too’ he replied. He sat his bag against the wall, glancing around the studio to try and get a feel of the space. ‘Looks great, where should I start?’
She hesitated, her fingers tightening on her grip on the camera. ‘Uhhh, over by the backdrop,’ she said softly, pointing. ‘We’ll start with some simple shots if that’s okay?’
‘Sounds good.’ he said with a small nod, moving to the spot she pointed at. His movements were laidback as she felt herself relaxing a bit. He stood patiently, waiting for her instructions, his hands laid loosely around his sides.
She lifted the camera, her voice barely a whisper. ‘Can you um, turn slightly to the left? And maybe look down a bit?’
Alejandro followed her directions without a question, his gaze focused. ‘Like this?’ he asked, looking up for a second to check.
She gave a quick nod. ‘Perfect.’ she murmured, snapping a few shots. The soft click of the shutter filled the silence.
‘You’re really good at this,’ he said after a moment, his tone genuine. ‘I guess it feels… easy.’
Her cheeks warmed, as she quickly ducked behind the camera. ‘Thank you.’ she mumbled, adjusting the lens to give herself a second. ‘You’re easy to work with.’
He chuckled softly, ‘I’m glad, I always feel a bit awkward in front of the camera.’
Her brows lifted in surprise, and before she could think, she said ‘And that’s why i’m always behind the camera.’
He smiled, ‘You’re making it easier, you’re calm even if you’re quiet.’
She felt her face heat up even more. ‘I’m just… focused,’ she said quickly, adjusting the camera again. ‘Let’s try a few more like this.’
‘Whatever you think works,’ he said, his voice steady but soft, as if he didn’t want to disturb her concentration.
As the shoot continued, she found herself stealing glances between shots, noticing the way alejandro seemed to settle into the moment, his quiet confidence settling her nerves. And with each quiet exchange, each smile shared, she felt herself falling.
By the time the session was halfway through, the nervous edge in the room had fully become something quieter and softer. She felt her heart skip whenever Alejandro caught her eye but she was starting to fine her rhythm again - giving quiet instructions.
‘You’re good at this’ Alejandro said again, during a brief pause. His voice gentle, as he watched her adjust her camera settings. ‘You barely say anything but you know what you want.’
She fumbled with the dial, the compliment catching her off guard, ‘Oh, uh I guess I just let the photos speak for itself’ she murmured.
Alejandro smiled faintly, ‘They will, I can tell.’ He glanced at the rack of kits nearby. ‘Do you want me to change into the next one?’
She nodded quickly. ‘Yes please, it’s the third kit, the green one.’
He crossed over to the rack, his moves unhurried. ‘So you’ve worked with a lot of players before?’ he asked as he grabbed the shirt.
‘A few,’ she replied, her voice soft. ‘Mostly smaller shoots. This is a bigger one for me.’
‘Well, it doesn’t feel like it.’ Alejandro said, pulling the new shirt over his head. ‘Feels like you’ve been doing this forever.’
She ducked her head, a small, shy smile tugging at her lips, ‘Thanks.’
When he returned to the backdrop, the bright kit fitting him perfectly, she couldn’t help but notice how the neon green complimented his features.
‘Ready when you are.’ Alejandro said softly.
She nodded, her hands steadying as she framed the shot. ‘Turn to your right.’ she murmured. ‘A little more… perfect.’
The shutter clicked for a second, the world seemed to shrink to just the two of them. The room seemed smaller, the air heavier, not in a bad way. In a way that made her feel like nothing else existed but the way he looked at her.
‘Are you always this focused when you shoot?’ Alejandro asked, his voice low.
She hesitated, her finger hovering over the shutter. ‘I mean, I guess so.’ she said softly. ‘It’s easier to stay in my head.’
He tilted his head, his expression thoughtful. ‘And what about outside your head?’
She blinked, lowering the camera, ‘What do you mean by that?’
‘I mean,’ he said gently, ‘sometimes it’s good to come out, to be in the moment.’
Her heart fluttered, and for a second she didn’t know how to respond. Instead, she nodded quickly and bought the camera back up. ‘Let’s uhm try one more shot’
‘Alright.’
Eventually, the shoot ended, and he left. The studio felt quieter without him as she packed up her gear. She was all set to go home until her phone buzzed. It was a dm from instagram.
‘hey, it’s ale, thanks for today, you were amazing’
She stared at the screen, unsure on how to respond and ended up replying with,
‘ofcourse!! you were amazing to work with’
She hit send and immediately felt her stomach twist with nerves. But before she could think; the dots indicating that he was typing appeared.
‘it was nice working with you, maybe we could get coffee sometime if you’re not busy?’
Her breath was caught. Coffee? With him? She bit her lip before replying with,
‘yeah, i’d like that’
His response was almost immediate:
‘great, how about tomorrow?’
Tomorrow?? Her head spun at the thought of the small time frame.
‘tomorrow works!!’
Her response short, to try and match his nonchalance.
‘perfect, i’ll text you the place and time, goodnight.’
She hearted the message and set her phone down, her heart racing.
They both met up in a downtown cafe near the training grounds and conjured up some small talk.
‘So,’ he said after a while, his eyes twinkling with curiosity, ‘How did you get into photography?’
She hesitated, surprised by the question. Most people didn’t ask. ‘Uhm, I guess I’ve always liked capturing moments,’ she said softly, her fingers tracing the edge of her mug. ‘It feels… safer, somehow. Being behind the camera instead of in front of it.’
Alejandro nodded, his expression thoughtful. ‘I get that,’ he said. ‘It’s kind of like football for me. When I’m on the pitch, everything else just… fades away.’
She glanced up at him, her shyness giving way to curiosity. ‘How did you get into football?’ she asked.
He smiled, leaning back in his chair. ‘My dad used to take me to matches when I was a kid. I’d sit in the stands, dreaming of playing on a big field someday. Eventually, I started kicking a ball around, and… well, here I am.’
The conversation flowed more easily after that, each question and answer pulling them closer together. By the time they finished their coffee, she felt like she’d known Alejandro for far longer than just a few hours.
When they finally stepped outside, the afternoon sun was beginning to dip, casting a soft golden glow over the city. Alejandro turned to her, his hands tucked into his jacket pockets.
‘Thanks for coming,’ he said, his voice warm. ‘I’m glad we did this.’
‘Me too,’ She said, her heart bursting with a quiet, unexpected happiness.
‘Maybe we could do it again sometime?’ he asked, his tone hopeful.
She hesitated for only a second before nodding. ‘I’d like that.’
Alejandro smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. ‘Good.’
That date lead to a ton after, making them official, but do they want to announce it to the public..?
Hiii!!! I love your João fics smmm 💖💖 and I got some inspiration from the Gavi x tennis player! Reader, I was wondering if I can make a request for a similar one with joão but instead of the reader being tennis player, could it be volleyball player?
So basically joão decides to attend his girlfriends (reader) game since he had a day off-and reader is a libero where she always haves to defend and always having to jump onto the floor to defend the ball from hitting the floor.
How about the opponents spiker hits the ball slightly farther away but she stills needs to catch the ball to throw it back to her teammates to manage to get a point for them but she accidentally crashes into like the court banners or maybe a table surrounding the volleyball court and like joão is scared and worried for his gf but at the end she was fine and just a sprain wrist and ankle? And he's lowk overprotective after the game
Hopefully the plot makes sense for you😭

joão wasn’t supposed to be here.
his schedule was packed, as always, but for once, fate had given him a rare day off. and the moment he realized it lined up perfectly with one of your games, there was no question, he was going.
so here he was, sitting courtside, cap pulled low over his head, completely locked in on the match.
he’d seen you play before, of course. he knew how talented you were, how much work you put into your game. but watching you in person? feeling the energy of the match, hearing the squeak of your shoes on the court, seeing you throw yourself into every single play, it was different.
it was exhilarating. and terrifying.
because as a libero, you never stopped moving. you were constantly sprinting, diving, launching yourself across the floor to save impossible balls. every time you hit the ground, joão flinched. every time you threw your body in harm’s way, his heart nearly stopped.
‘does she always do that?’ he muttered to one of your teammates who was sitting on the bench.
she barely looked up from watching the game. ‘she’s a libero. she kinda has to.’
joão frowned. he knew that. logically, he understood that this was your job, just like football was his. but that didn’t mean he had to like watching you hit the floor over and over again.
but then, the match got even more intense.
it was the final set, tied at 24-24. one team had to win by two, and everyone was playing like their lives depended on it.
joão watched as the opposing team’s outside hitter, easily the tallest girl on the court, jumped up for a brutal spike, aiming for the back corner.
and then he saw you move.
you were already sprinting before the ball even made contact.
his stomach twisted. he knew that look in your eyes.
you weren’t going to let it drop.
and you didn’t.
you dove, arms outstretched, fingers grazing the ball just in time to send it flying back toward your teammates.
but the momentum carried you too far.
instead of landing safely on the floor, you crashed straight into the court barriers.
joão shot to his feet, his heart slamming against his ribs.
the sound of your body hitting the plastic barricades and knocking over a small table made his stomach churn. you hit the floor hard, and for a second, you didn’t move.
his entire body went cold.
the gym fell silent.
then, before he could even process what was happening, your teammates were surrounding you, the medical staff rushing over.
joão’s hands clenched at his sides as he forced himself to stay where he was. he wanted nothing more than to run onto the court, to push past everyone and check on you himself. but he wasn’t allowed to.
he held his breath, waiting, his pulse hammering in his ears.
and then
you sat up.
joão exhaled so sharply it almost felt like he’d been holding his breath for hours.
the relief that crashed over him was instant, but it didn’t completely settle until he saw you carefully flex your fingers, rolling your wrist with a slight wince.
a sprain. maybe your ankle too, judging by the way you hesitated when your teammates helped you up.
but you were okay.
and despite everything, despite the fact that you had just thrown yourself straight into a table, your team managed to win the point.
and then the game.
but joão didn’t care about the score. not really. the only thing he cared about was getting to you.
so the second the final whistle blew, he was moving.
he pushed past the crowd, barely hearing the people congratulating him on his own recent games, barely acknowledging the fans who recognized him.
all he could focus on was you.
you were sitting on the bench, your ankle wrapped, your wrist wrapped, casually chatting with your coach like you hadn’t just nearly given him a heart attack.
‘what the hell was that?’ he blurted out, startling you slightly.
your head snapped up, eyes widening in surprise. ‘joão—’
‘why would you even go for that ball?’ he continued, running a hand through his hair, clearly still panicked. ‘you could’ve been seriously hurt!’
you blinked at him, processing his words before a small, amused smile tugged at your lips. ‘we won the point, didn’t we?’
he stared at you like you were insane. ‘winning isn’t worth getting hurt.’
you sighed, shaking your head fondly before reaching out with your good hand, grabbing the front of his hoodie and tugging him closer. ‘it is to me.’
he exhaled sharply, but he didn’t pull away. instead, he let himself sink down in front of you, his hands hovering like he wanted to touch you but was afraid of making anything worse.
‘you’re impossible,’ he muttered, his voice softer now, but still frustrated.
‘you love me.’
he sighed, dropping his forehead against your uninjured shoulder. ‘unfortunately for me, yeah.’
you laughed, wrapping your arm around him and pressing a kiss to the side of his head. ‘i’m fine, joão.’
‘you have a sprained wrist and ankle,’ he grumbled.
‘but i’m okay,’ you reassured him, squeezing his hoodie gently.
he pulled back just enough to look at you, his eyes scanning your face, like he needed to make sure you were really telling the truth.
then, after a beat, he exhaled and stood up.
‘okay. come on.’
before you could react, he scooped you up into his arms.
you yelped, your arms instinctively wrapping around his neck. ‘joão!’
‘nope. you’re not walking on that ankle,’ he said firmly, adjusting you so you were comfortably nestled against his chest. ‘i’ve decided you’re not allowed to move at all until you’re healed.’
you huffed, crossing your arms. ‘you’re being ridiculous.’
‘you’re reckless,’ he shot back, pressing a kiss to your forehead. ‘but lucky for you, i love you anyway.’
you sighed dramatically, but you couldn’t help the way your heart melted when he tightened his arms around you.
‘guess i should get injured more often,’ you teased.
he shot you a warning look. ‘don’t even joke about that.’
you grinned, resting your head against his shoulder.
maybe he was being overprotective. maybe he was being dramatic.
but you weren’t complaining.

There’s an ache in your chest, the kind you can’t name. The kind that only seems to surface when Gavi’s beside you.
It’s not that you don’t love him; you do. More than you probably should. But tonight, the silence feels heavier, the air charged with things neither of you dare to say.
He’s sprawled across the couch, hair messy from your fingers earlier. The game’s on in the background, but neither of you are watching. You’re tucked into his side, your head resting on his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart.
‘I wish it didn’t feel like this sometimes,’ you murmur, your voice barely above a whisper.
Gavi’s fingers pause where they’ve been tracing lazy circles on your arm. ‘Like what?’
You pull back slightly to meet his eyes, and the question hangs between you. The weight of it, the truth of it.
‘Like we’re holding on too tight.’
His face softens, but there’s a flicker of something else there, too; fear, maybe, or recognition. ‘You’re all I’ve got,’ he says, so simply it makes your chest hurt.
The thing is, you believe him. And maybe that’s why it feels like this sometimes, like you’re tethered to each other by something too fragile to last. You love him so much it terrifies you, and some part of you knows he feels the same. But love like this,it burns too hot. Leaves scars.
‘We’re okay,’ he says, his voice steady now. ‘Aren’t we?’
You hesitate for a moment too long, and his hand tightens on your arm. ‘Tell me we’re okay,’ he pleads, his eyes searching yours.
You nod, because the truth is you don’t know how to live without him anymore. Because even when it hurts, he’s still the only person you want to come home to.
‘We’re okay,’ you say softly, and the relief in his expression almost breaks you.
He leans down, presses a kiss to your forehead, and pulls you closer. ‘I don’t care if we’re a mess,’ he murmurs. ‘As long as you’re mine.’
And for now, it’s enough.
Because even if this love isn’t perfect, it’s yours. And even if it hurts, it’s home.
i feel weird writing how reader and __ first met, Lowkey love doing already dating fics
can u do a pau fic where he’s sitting down and reader comes to stand between his legs and he puts his hands on the back of her thighs (yk the thing that guys do idk how to explain it🤣) and her hands around his neck playing with his hair. and he just looks so in love and smiley and looking up and her and just listening to her speak.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
it’s loud in the restaurant, glasses clinking, plates being passed, laughter bouncing off every corner of the table.
but none of it really matters.
because pau’s sitting in the middle of it all, quietly zoned out, eyes only on you.
you’d gotten up to grab something off the far end of the table, weaving through teammates and chairs and banter, and somehow ended up standing right between his knees as you reached across the table.
and instead of shifting or moving back, he just rests his hands gently on the backs of your thighs. casual. warm. his.
your breath catches just a little.
you glance down at him and smile, hands instinctively finding his shoulders, then sliding up into his hair.
his hair is soft. his eyes are softer.
and god, he’s looking at you like you’re made of light.
like he’s not in the middle of a team dinner with half the squad watching.
like you’re the only sound he hears.
you start rambling about something, what someone said earlier, a joke he missed, how chaotic the other end of the table is.
and he just listens.
quiet smile on his lips. fingers still tracing slow, lazy shapes on the backs of your thighs. head tilted just slightly so he can look up at you better.
he nods at all the right moments, gives little mhm’s and amused half laughs, but mostly?
he’s just watching.
like he’s memorizing you. like he already has.
someone down the table calls his name.
he doesn’t even flinch.
you finally stop talking, a little breathless, a little shy under his stare.
‘what?’ you whisper, laughing softly. ‘why are you looking at me like that?’
he just smiles.
‘you’re the best part of my night. that’s all.’
and yeah. you feel it. all the way down to your fingertips.
