“You’re a heck of a woman!”
“I know. That’s what it says on my homepage.”
Thinking about Penelope
==I just felt like drawing some cutesy stuff. I wouldn’t put it past Dimitri to try hitting on the bride one last time before she’s officially off limits. And I totally believe that Carmelita would be one of those annoying work-a-holics who can NEVER just forget about her job for a few hours.
Here's an incomplete list of tropes attributed to Penelope in Thieves In Time Redux...
Adaptational Heroism
Affectionate Nickname
Becoming The Mask
Contrasting Sequel Main Character
Dual Wielding/Morph Weapon
Gadgeteer Genius
Good All Along
Jack Of All Stats, Master Of None
Promoted To Fully Playable
Regretful Traitor
The Atoner
The Drag-Along
Took A Level In Badass
Violently Protective Girlfriend
Have two main characters get into a heated argument that escalates.
Introduce a rival who challenges your protagonist’s goals.
Have a character betray the group, creating distrust and tension.
Make a natural disaster strike, forcing characters to work together despite differences.
Have your protagonist face a moral dilemma that splits their friends’ opinions.
Introduce a character with opposing beliefs or values.
Make resources scarce, leading to fights over necessities.
Have a long-buried secret come to light, causing conflict among characters.
Create a situation where characters must choose between loyalty and personal gain.
Have an authority figure issue an unjust order, causing characters to rebel.
For context, this is one of Penelope's actions during Something's Fishy. Episode 1. It's during a newly added RC Car segment.
For more context, this "gate" is something she could have opened in seconds. It's something she designed herself.
And these "higher expectations" might make future snooping sessions a bit harder. Whoops. And even worse, she comes out of this one empty-handed.
But at least her boyfriend and honorary older brother like her better now?
So far, I'm only still at the first episode of Sly 2, but It's impressive how much Sly Cooper 2 feel like the natural growth of the characters.
Sly 1 is a "beginner" thief that rush into his ennemy's lair with barelly any preparation, coming up with plans on the fly.
Sly 2 is about an experience Thief that reworked his methods. Now, his companions are much more involved in the operations. Now he carefully stake out and test the security before going for his target. He knows all the importants move of the thievus racoonus.
Something I've been thinking about lately is the shame around writing slowly, and how prevalent it is for people to be upset about not being able to write a lot really quickly. About how so much of writing advice is "how to write more faster," and how many people seeking advice are asking how to write a thousand words a day, and how big of an annual thing NaNoWriMo is because it's difficult but there's this general vibe of condescension for those who don't participate or who don't "win."
And I used to feel ashamed too. I'd get frustrated by my apparent inability to write more than a few hundred words in a sitting on a good day. I'd beat myself up for only managing my bare minimum of fifty words, I'd try again and again at NaNoWriMo and hate myself for not being able to do it.
But I've realized that if I didn't write slowly, my stories wouldn't be what they are. I wouldn't love them so much, because they wouldn't have become what they did - because they had time to bloom.
And I've also realized that while I have had moments in time where I wrote like that - multiple thousands of words a day for days or weeks on end - that's... not something I aspire to.
I write slow! That's okay!
I'm proud of writing slow. I'm proud of having gotten to the point where I put myself and my process before what others expect of me.
You don't need to be fast. You don't need to be ashamed.
And you don't need to want to be fast, either.
I certainly don't.
Just a meme I made for my Thieves In Time rewrite. It's on DeviantArt.
since last time worked out quite good, I’m making another of these posts.
So if you blog about one of the following things reblog, so I’ll go following you! Ok, I need:
Rayman
Sly Raccoon
Homestuck (possibly something involving JohnRose, JohnKat, GamTav or RufDam)
Alice in Wonderland
Castle of Nations (or Law of Talos or Endzone)
Touhou Project
Frozen
Steampunk stuff
ASKBLOGS AND NSFW BLOGS ARE OK TOO, even if I’ll check them out before following!
So my rewrite of Thieves In Time is full of awesome and wholesome moments, like the following...
Penelope teaming up with Carmelita and Tennessee to break the boys out of Toothpick's prison, and gaining Bentley's respect after she personally frees him. (Episode 2)
The boys taking care of Penelope when she's sick, and it being the last push she needs for her change of heart. (Episode 3)
Murray and Penelope fighting The Grizz together, and Murray letting her finish their opponent off. Also Bentley deciding not to interfere with that boss fight and let Penelope take care of herself. (Episode 3)
Sly apologizing to Penelope for ditching everyone on Kaine Island. (Episode 4)
Penelope escaping from that tower all by herself, even jumping a guard several times her size to get her weapons back. (Episode 4)
Bentley and Penelope finally doing a proper love confession after defeating the latter's impostor. (Episode 4)
Penelope impersonating her impostor to save Sly and succeeding. Also her declaration of loyalty during the same scene. And making it through the entire episode without getting found out. (Episode 4)
Penelope finally recognizing Murray as her older brother. (Episode 5)
Penelope taking charge as mission leader before the blimp raid (and nearly cracking under the pressure). Also the boys promising to forget about her upcoming expulsion if she succeeds. (Episode 6)
Penelope fighting Le Paradox. The entire fight scene. (Episode 6)
I know some of these scenes weren't documented in the abridged version. The full story, if it's ever finished, will contain them.
