ohohoho officially breaking into ensemble stars territory now~ Inspired Eccentric Party Night!!, the song I've been listening to on repeat for an entire day 😌
Counting down the hours until you perform - and inevitably lose - against fine in front of all of Yumenosaki Academy, you take solace in knowing you're not alone. Genre: Bittersweet, Hurt/Comfort (?), Set During the War Word Count: 2k Warning: A little canon divergent? Probably OOC? Constructive criticism is always appreciated~
On the empty stage you went through your routine yet again. Drilling every movement of the limbs down into your DNA, your muscles already moving before you could consciously think of the next move. Your voice sounded otherworldly, as if it was no longer yours as it resounded off the walls and back to you. The music of the speakers couldn’t drown out your voice, no matter how loud you turned up the volume. You needed to be loud, you needed to make sure your voice would carry. You wanted to make sure everyone heard you, even if they hated you.
Even in your last stand.
You struck your final pose in time with the ending of the music. As the bass slowly faded into silence, in its place was slow applause. Squinting through the stage lights, you could make out a figure in the darkness of the audience seats. You couldn’t tell who they were, but since they weren’t booing at you, mocking you and telling you to not waste your breath, you figured they were friend rather than foe. Walking to the front of the stage, you sat down, letting your legs dangle over the stage as you grabbed a towel to wipe the sweat off your brow.
“Are you just going to stay in the darkness?” you asked the ominous figure.
“I’ve always preferred it over the light.”
“Rei,” your lips instinctively curved up. He walked closer to you, where the lights spilled off the stage and onto his features. “Back from your travels already?”
“I’d never miss a performance of yours,” he replied. “I’m surprised to see you practising here so late, though.”
“I want to do a performance I’m proud of,” you shrugged, words muffled as you let your towel drape over your face.
“Even though you know you’re going to lose.”
You peeked at Rei through the folds of your towel.
“I prefer not to think about that.”
Rei hummed in acknowledgement. Staying in comfortable silence, it was pleasantly disturbed as the door opened, Kanata trudging towards you, snacks and a large water bottle in hand.
“I heard you were practising, I thought you might like some refreshments, puka…” Kanata drawled as he placed the items in your lap.
“Thanks, Kanata,” you chuckled. “How are you holding up?”
“Even if everyone is against me, I have you… and I have the ocean, so I’ll be okay,” Kanata smiled fondly before it slowly turned upside down as he regarded you with sorrowful eyes. “But you… will you be okay?”
Tomorrow night will be the night your unit performs against fine for all of Yumenosaki Academy to see. It was the destiny Eichi Tenshouin thrust onto you once the Student Council labelled you as an ‘Eccentric’. Your destiny to be hated and humiliated by the whole student body, to be ‘executed’ in front of them all, much to their joy. You saw it with Shu, even Rei himself. And once you’re suitably shunned by the entire academy, Wataru will be following you. Speaking of which…
“My, Rei and Kanata, you are full of surprises!” Wataru exclaimed as he strolled into the theatre. “And here I was, thinking that I’d get to our dear (Y/N) first.”
Wataru turned to you with a pout. “Did I miss your final rehearsal? Do practise again, your performances are simply amazing!”
“Wait until tomorrow with all the lights and fancy costumes,” you chuckled.
“Ah, but the performance will be sullied by the audience,” Wataru tutted. “I want to see your performance with all its raw passion and wonderful oddities.”
“Oddities, eh?” You said quietly.
“I know, being thought of as odd leaves a rather sour taste in the mouth now, doesn’t it?” Rei sighed as he took a seat beside you.
“Yeah…” you looked down at the snacks in your lap. “Has anyone heard from Shu? I tried to get him out of his room but if even Mika can’t do that…”
“Ah, it’s safe to say that Shu will be needing a hiatus from this play,” Wataru frowned. “Such a performance as disastrous as his would have surely traumatised him.”
There was a sombre silence. You were there to watch Shu’s latest performance. Every move executed with pinpoint precision, every angle of every joint calculated and purposely done. Every note sung being more beautiful than the last until no notes could be heard. Until the audio system was cut off and Shu, along with his unit mates were left in silence. Until all that was left was shame, his mirage of perfection evaporating into thin air.
The thought of performing only for your own inevitable humiliation was no longer one you could handle. As your heart dropped, pounding in the depths of your stomach, your mouth felt dry but your arms felt too heavy to move to get the bottle lying on your lap. You had been harassed by the majority of students in Yumenosaki already with your title of Eccentric. Day in, day out was a new game of hide and seek where you prayed to never be found. You thought you could handle it, you figured you might as well humour fine and the Student Council in a final performance. But could you really?
The theatre doors burst open with a desperate call of your name. Your head snapped up.
“Natsume-”
“You don’t have to perform!” Natsume stated as he stormed down the theatre aisle with papers in hand. “I talked to Tsumugi. He said he could cancel your performance.”
“What?” Your eyes widened.
“Hm… the Student Council is hard to understand,” Kanata whispered.
Wataru laughed heartily. “The Student Council aren’t all monsters! And the most questionable one of them is focused on me. Do not fret, (Y/N), you are free to exit the stage.”
“Please,” Natsume insisted. "Just sign the papers."
He held the papers out to you expectantly. The golden opportunity to get out of the humiliation, to quietly leave your reputation as an Eccentric. And yet, as you looked into Natsume’s golden orbs, orbs that sparkled with determination, you couldn't bring yourself to relent. He didn't owe you anything, he went above and beyond to try and get your performance cancelled purely out of the bond you shared. And that strengthened your resolve more than anything.
With the tips of your fingers, you gently pushed the papers back to him, maintaining eye contact as his face fell.
“It’ll be alright,” your voice was quiet. “I have to do this. Not for the Student Council but for myself.”
Rei placed a reassuring hand on your shoulder as Kanata nodded in encouragement. But Natsume tensed, muscles so taut he was shaking.
“It’s not fair,” he muttered. “What did we do?”
“We were ourselves,” you stated simply.
Wataru clapped his hands to grab everyone’s attention. “Well, if that’s decided, I say you should rehearse once more, (Y/N)!”
“I’d like to see your song, puka puka,” Kanata chirped.
Rei hopped off of the stage as he and Wataru guided the others to take seats in the front row. Once everyone has settled, you let the music guide you once again. You had done the moves hundreds of times by now, yet you strived to make each performance unique. As your routine came to an end, the four students below you erupted into applause.
“Simply, amazing!” Wataru praised. His eyes were trained on you but he projected his voice. “You can come out now, Shu~”
You took a step back in surprise, the others stopped their applause and twisted in their seats to see Shu slowly walking towards you. His expression was blank, unreadable as his hands remained clasped together. He had applauded you as well.
“Any constructive criticism?” You asked. You tried to imitate his calm demeanour but you couldn't help but let a smile climb onto your face. Despite his skin losing its colour, eyebags heavy under his eyes, Shu was just as poised as ever.
“Your moves averaged forty-three milliseconds off the beat,” Shu stated. “Often times you were rushing, other times it was too slow. The performance was, frankly, chaotic.”
“I don’t even know why I asked,” you grumbled, rubbing the back of your neck.
“The performance was, also, yours,” he admitted. “It harnessed your strengths and minimised your weaknesses.”
“So you liked it?” you beamed. Shu cleared his throat with a light fist to his mouth.
“What I mean to say is, if one were to attend a performance of yours to see what made you unique… a routine like that would leave them satisfied.”
“He liked it,” Kanata cooed.
"I'm surprised to see you out of your room," you observed.
“You were there for me in my last performance,” Shu huffed as he adjusted his cravat. “I suppose it is only fair that I am there for yours.”
“Will you watch me perform tomorrow night?”
Shu hesitated for a moment before nodding.
“As much as I can’t bear to look at Tenshouin’s face, it would simply be wrong of me not to attend.”
“Thank you.”
Shu looked at you, blinking, as if he were a robot who had just malfunctioned. But he eventually sighed, smiling softly.
“I must ask,” Rei started. “How did you even manage to find people to perform with you?”
“If there’s one thing I learned from Eichi Tenshouin, it’s that money can get you anywhere,” you grimaced. “I paid a classmate to perform with me anonymously. I doubt he’s even learnt the choreo, though.”
You noticed Natsume’s balled up fists.
“I can perform with you.”
“No,” you said firmly, your gaze softening at you looked at him. “You’ve managed to get by this war relatively unscathed, I’m not letting anyone hurt you.”
“Then I’ll just wear a mask,” he retorted.
“I’m not willing to take that risk.”
“It’s not fair,” Natsume took a step away from you. Rei slowly rose from his seat, watching Natsume carefully as he regarded all of you with frantic eyes. “Where’s our happy ending? Why aren’t you fighting this cruel fate?”
“You can’t fight the tides,” Kanata said simply as he leaned to the side, resting his head on your shoulder as he yawned.
“Ah, my dear Natsume,” Wataru sighed as he put his hands on the younger’s shoulders. “You are mistaken. This isn’t the end of the play, merely the end of an act! Our happy end shall come one day, but only when a suitable complication has arisen for all of the main cast; a typical hero's journey. Our (Y/N) must perform, and then I must as well. Only then may we rise from the ashes.”
Natsume looked away, uncertain.
“Do you trust me?” Wataru asked, his voice soft. Natsume kept his gaze averted from Wataru but ended up meeting yours. You offered him a reassuring smile.
“Yes.”
“Excellent.”
“Let me help you all take your mind off these melancholy matters and off of tomorrow's performance,” Rei offered. “Shall we have dinner together? On me, of course.”
“Is that alright?” Natsume asked.
“Ah! Ever the charitable one!” Wataru clapped.
“Thank you, Rei,” Kanata smiled.
“What?” Shu asked, appalled. “Public areas are absolutely filthy, unkempt and-”
You shot him a glare.
“... tolerable. The offer is greatly appreciated.”
Natsume and Shu started to walk off, bickering as Kanata trailed behind. Rei and Wataru waited for you as you packed up, Rei watching the other three fondly.
"That's the one thing, isn't it?" Rei murmured.
"What?" You asked as you turned to him, bag zipped up and ready to go.
"The one thing we always had against Eichi Tenshouin, the Student Council, fine in general," Rei mused.
You followed Rei's gaze, Natsume and Kanata now laughing at an annoyed Shu. Your voice was quiet as you responded.
"We had each other."
"A wonderful premise for a tragicomedy," Wataru laughed heartily. "May it end well."
And so, the six of you left the theatre. You didn’t know back then it would be the last time all of you would be together on such good terms. The next act of this tragicomedy determined that the Eccentrics would go their separate ways, but no matter how you would individually rise from the ashes, you will always cherish the beautiful night before your downfall.

꒰ pairing ꒱ — itoshi rin x gn!reader
꒰ summary ꒱ — rin is cold to everyone, but maybe he'll warm up to you.
꒰ content warnings ꒱ — 2k wc, college au, reader wears a skirt, mentions of injury + a little blood.
you aren't one to believe in silly superlatives, but the last few months have helped you understand why itoshi rin is regarded as the most unapproachable student on campus.
he works alone and during the moments when he's required to collaborate, the man is incredibly blunt. outside of class, you rarely see him accompanied by anyone other than his team and even then he never seems thrilled to be around them. the aloof expression he constantly wears only solidifies everyone's perception of him—everyone's but yours.
you're a firm believer that people are more than they let on and rin is no different. beneath his frigid exterior, there's something more. at least, that's what you've been telling yourself for the last several weeks. if you weren't convinced, how else would you explain your efforts of getting close to him?
you're on a mission, one to see if you can chip away, thaw, the icy exterior that encases itoshi rin.
"rin!" you shout, but your call doesn't elicit any sort of response—he doesn't pause, doesn't turn his head, just keeps walking as though your voice is nothing more than a gust of wind. his disregard fails to deter you as you pick up your pace to catch up with rin's long strides. it takes a bit but when you finally do, you smile and link your arm with his. you look up at him before asking, "hey, didn't you hear me calling your name?"
"i did. i was just ignoring you." his teal eyes finally spare you a short glance before he's shaking you off, pulling his arm out of your hold and stuffing his hand in the pocket of his long, beige coat. it's you again, he thinks.
you remind him of something—a gnat, that's it. small and bothersome but easy to swat away. though, just like them, you always seem to make your way back. he's grown used to your repeated appearances, even if he finds them slightly bothersome.
"this is why you don't have any friends, you know." you sigh, the stream of air that leaves your mouth visible as a foggy cloud in front of you. you peer up at him through your eyelashes. "you're so cold."
he's silent in response to your statement and you expected as much. still, you send him a smile and continue talking. "i'm willing to look past that, though. what are you doing now?"
"going home." rin hopes his answer is enough to dispel whatever thought is brewing in your head.
"perfect! so you're free." he turns to you with a frown. what part of "going home" gave you the impression that he had nothing else to do? "wanna go get sushi? it's on campus so we wouldn't have to go far."
"no thanks." he looks away to finalize his answer.
"aw, come on, rin." if you're going to get anywhere, you can't keep letting him brush you off. "it doesn't have to be sushi," you try to bargain, but he doesn't budge, only continues toward his destination.
maybe you should just drop it, try again another time, but your body has other ideas. you take a few quick steps forward so you're standing in front of rin. you're walking partially backward as your next words come out. "we can get whatever you w-"
the ground beneath your feet doesn't feel as stable as it did a moment ago, it's slippery now, enough to make you lose your balance. you slide forward on a patch of ice before the concrete is back under you. the bottoms of your shoes catch on the roughness of the ground, launching your forward. your knees and the heels of your palms skim the sidewalk, drawing a pained gasp from your lungs.
"shit, are you okay?" rin's voice cuts through the air, and it's closer than it was when you were upright. you turn your head to find his face right beside yours. his eyes are zoned in on your hands and you swear you can see a glint of concern pass over them.
"i'm fine," you tell him, sitting back on your knees and painting on a smile to cover up the pain. you shake your hands at the wrist but the cool air only bites at your open wounds. "it just stings a little."
you're a lousy liar, rin thinks. did you think he wouldn't notice the breath of air you sucked in just now? blue-green irises scan over your hands and knees. the fall was enough to tear your tights and break the skin. there's blood slowly pooling from the surface of each scratch.
"come on," rin sighs, straightening up and shrugging his coat off his shoulders. you stare up at him with lips parted in confusion. he jerks his head in a silent gesture for you to stand up.
"where are we going?" you ask, carefully boosting yourself up from off the ground.
"to my apartment." he glances at your outfit before holding out his coat to you. "put this on."
you want to ask him why but you figure your constant questioning will put him off. you keep your lips sealed as you accept his coat, slinging it over your much thinner zip-up. your eyes dart back to where he's standing—or where he was standing. he's not there anymore but it only takes a tilt of your head to find him. he's bent at the knee in front of you and his arm reaches over his shoulder to pat his back. "get on."
your eyes widen in a mixture of surprise and triumph. the gesture itself catches you off guard—before now, it was hard to ever picture rin being so... helpful, chivalrous. on the other hand, this is the first of what you hope becomes many wins in your pursuit of melting away what you think is his frosty façade.
a quiet laugh pushes past your lips as you bend down to wrap your arms around rin's neck. he hooks his hands under your knees, a low grunt rumbling in his chest as he rises up from his position.
you can't help but think it would be a lot colder if you weren't wearing rin's coat. maybe you should have taken a look at the weather before you decided to put a skirt on this morning. it's only then that it strikes you—he didn't give you the jacket to keep you warm, he gave it to you to keep you covered. if the length of the outerwear wasn't draped over your legs, this piggyback ride would be a lot more compromising.
your cheeks and the tips of your ears are flaming hot compared to the nip of the cold air. you aren't sure if you're flustered because of the close call or the fact that rin was attentive and considerate enough to protect your decency. he's a lot more thoughtful than he puts on.
despite your fall being entirely unintentional, you have to say, the timing couldn't have been better. the walk to rin's apartment isn't far at all and if you hadn't found a way to stop him, you wouldn't have gotten through to him today.
with you still on his back, rin fishes out his keys from his pocket, sticking one into the keyhole and twisting until a click signals that the front door is unlocked. you can't see far into the apartment over his shoulder, but the kitchen and the little glimpse of the living room are exactly what you expected—neat. there are no dirty dishes littered about the counters and the blanket hanging over the back of the couch is tidily folded.
the bathroom is directly to the right of the entrance and rin nudges the door open with his foot to allow the both of you in. he kneels in front of the toilet, setting you down on the closed lid. you survey the scratches on your palms as rin washes his hands and grabs the first-aid kit he keeps under the sink. he kneels down in front of you to start treating the scrapes on your knees.
the process is a silent one, rin's focus solely on cleaning your wounds. the silence makes you want to squirm but the thought of being reprimanded by rin keeps you glued to your spot. his presence is always overwhelming but much less so when it's accompanied by conversation. so, you speak, "this is your fault, you know."
he stills for a split second before continuing, but you don't miss the way his eyebrows knit together. “how is you slipping my fault?”
you bite your lip to hold back a laugh. the empty statement was merely a poor attempt at breaking the silence, but you're beginning to think that you can use this to your advantage. "i was just trying to be nice and invite you out. if you agreed to lunch with me, this all would have been avoidable."
rin clicks his tongue. he knows what you're doing; you're trying to guilt trip him, make him feel bad. and he does, he recognizes—but not for the reasons you think. he's never been particularly benevolent but something drove him to act today, something he can't quite put his finger on. all he can say for sure is that he wouldn't be doing this for just anyone.
"don't worry, though." your voice brings rin back to reality from his thoughts. his teal gaze lands on your face and you smile. it's pretty, the thinks, but there's a gleam in your eyes that isn't as sweet. "i know how you can make it up to me."
"am i not doing that now?" he asks as he finishes bandaging your second knee.
you ignore his question, holding your palms up at rin's nod toward them. "i'll forgive you if you take me up on my offer. going out for lunch, i mean."
a gnat. persistent and pesky.
"what makes you think i want your forgiveness?" his words, the bluntness of them, starkly contrasts his touch. the lithe finger applying antibiotic ointment to your torn skin is gentle, tender even.
"maybe you don't," you hum curiously. you were sure he would have given in by now but his resolve was starting to seem unbreakable. there's one strategy you have left, one you were hoping you wouldn't have to turn to. although, you suppose you could always go back on your word. and rin didn't have to know that.
you clear your throat resolutely in hopes that your next statement comes out smoothly. "i'll leave you alone if you humor me this once."
rin almost snorts. he highly doubts that will be the case with your track record and all. despite his skepticism, he doesn't immediately jump to rejecting you and the lack of a prompt "no" surprises you both.
rin sticks the last square band-aid to your hand while he contemplates your proposal. something about this unplanned interaction has surfaced unfamiliar feelings from the depths of his heart. he still doesn't understand why he decided to lend you a helping hand, but he figures there must have been a reason—one that he'll come closer to finding out if he swallows his pride and agrees to your outing.
"fine." he sits back on his heels, letting his hands rest on his thighs.
you blink at the one-word answer. "fine?"
"that's what i said." rin stands up from his place on the floor and starts toward the door. he looks over his shoulder to see you still seated. "come on before i change my mind."
it would be dumb of you to miss this opportunity—the one that you had sacrificed your physical well-being and a pair of cute tights for—all because you're awestruck. so you quickly stand and scurry over to rin with a satisfied grin.
you can feel him tense beside you when you loop your arm through his once more. "i knew you'd warm up to me."

Bloody nose - { Rin, Sae, Nagi }
You get elbowed in the nose at their game.
rin itoshi
you were sitting in the VIP section scrolling through your phone during a break not noticing the the couple arguing right next to you. apparently the kiss cam showed up and focused on the wrong couple so they were now arguing and the guy next to you was waving his arms around being obnoxiously loud when his hand knocked your phone out of your hands. you bent down to pick it up seeing the cracks on the phone and as you were coming back up his elbow came back and hit you square in your nose.
you fell back onto the ground holding your nose in pain. the man didn’t even realize what he did because he was so busy arguing with his girlfriend. thankfully the man that was sitting behind you yelled at the guy for hitting you which ended up with them two fighting each other. it was a big mess and to make it worse your nose started to bleed. the blood was dripping onto your clothes along with unwanted tears and before you could figure out what to do a pair of hands were cupping your face forcing you to look up.
before being forced to look at the sky you caught a glimpse of Rin. he had ran across the field after seeing you fall onto the ground. the cameraman was so nosey that the whole incident was being filmed on the big screens. “are you okay? y/n? speak to me.” his hand stayed pressed against your cheek while he used his sleeve to clean up the blood from your nose. “I-I’m okay.”
he let out a low sigh then focused his attention towards the man who elbowed you. everyone at that point had gotten quiet and we’re watching the two of you interact. as the medical team finally arrived he covered your ears even though you could still hear and spoke threatening words towards the man, “you hit my girlfriend you prick. if I would’ve gotten here sooner you’d be gone already.” he removed his hands and grabbed your arms leading towards the tunnel so that the medical team could check you out.
“i will be fine. go finish the game, I will be right here when you get back.” he kissed your cheek and ran back into the field to finish his game.
sae itoshi
the moment sae saw you get elbowed in the face seemingly for something you didn’t do he calmly jogged over towards you and climbed up the railings to get to you. he stood infront of you gently gripping the bottom of your chin to get a better look at your nose.
he turned towards the man who was standing protectively infront of his wife, the one who elbowed you. “get your dog before I get her for you. lay a finger on my girlfriend again I’ll make sure you two personally will never step foot in a soccer stadium ever again-” “sae…” he turned hearing your voice watching as you held the back of your hand up to your nose.
the blood was flowing and it wasn’t stopping anytime soon, he held onto your elbows while calling for the medical team to come and check you out. his gaze lingered back to you and he just felt horrible for what happened. you rarely get the chance to come to his games and when you do you end up getting hurt.
when the medics finally arrived he kissed your forehead and shot the husband a nasty glare one last time before returning back to the field to finish his game. make no mistake though, the couple were banned from EVERY stadium in the country. he never told you because you’d be upset with him, he was just worried is all.
nagi seishiro
nagi had never moved to fast in his life and at a quick pace too. jumping over the railings he bent down onto his knees holding the tissue you had up to your nose watching your blood soak the napkin because of your injury. “where did they go?” looking up the two that were occupying the seats next to you were long gone and the only thing you were focused on was your painfully bleeding nose.
his hand rubbed along your back to calm you down while pressing soothing kisses on your head. he could feel your body shaking because of how scared you were. you suddenly got elbowed out of nowhere and because of your laid back non violent personality he knew you were on the verge of breaking down.
he was pissed, really pissed but he wasn’t going to show it because he knew you needed him right now. and this was your first time watching him play too.
nagi did not go back to his game, they still won without him but if anything you were more important. the two of you sat down in the seats as he had his arms wrapped around you and forced you to lean your head back so that no more blood would come out.
Hello taps on mic,, I think you know who this is hehees 🐳 May I request for keito kissing headcanons? Thank you march dear and take care ! Lots of hearts (*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡
A/N: hi friend. giggles. I hope you likeeeee
*ೃ༄ Keito Hasumi kissing hc’s
⤷ Keito’s kisses feel familiar — warm, soft, infused with all the love and tenderness that the man can possibly muster. They feel like a thank you, an appreciative gesture. Thanking you for loving him, thanking you for sticking by him through thick and thin. They’re kind, enticing, and always end much too soon for Keito’s liking.
⤷ No one would think Keito Hasumi to be clingy and needy for the affection of his lover, but he is. His eyes are always wandering to your lips, pondering how soft and wonderful they’d feel against his own, wondering if your lips felt just as drawn to his, as his felt to yours… It’s a bad habit, perhaps, but one that he just can’t help. Humor him, maybe?
⤷ His hands always find your cheeks when you’re sharing in a kiss. Even if his fingertips only briefly brush against the skin of your face, it’s a tendency of his that you find to be adorably endearing. He holds your face closer to his, his head tilting only slightly in order to deepen the kiss. He sighs, long and somewhat hushed, into your mouth.
⤷ Keito will often present himself for a kiss, lips only slightly pursed and head tilted towards you, pupils widening — wordlessly begging for you to place your lips upon his. Blatantly asking for a kiss is much too flustering for him, and he doesn’t want to overstep by going in for himself — so this is how he settles, and he finds that it amuses you immensely.
⤷ The kisses that Keito gives you are gentle and endearing, his lips carefully placed over your own, holding you against him and expressing all of his feelings for you in one soft, sweet, simple gesture. His kisses are plentiful and full of life, and when his lips are on yours, you feel like you could conquer anything.
ʸᵒᵘⁿᵍᵉˢᵗ ᵃⁿᵈ ᵒⁿˡʸ ⁱᵗᵒˢʰⁱ ˢⁱˢᵗᵉʳ !!
being the youngest itoshi sibling includes...
having to deal with the constant conflict between your two brothers. you love them both and they love you too, but sometimes it's impossible to see how they love you because of how much they are caught up in football. especially when rin decides to go after sae and make it his goal to defeat him.
crying yourself to sleep to cope with the fact that your brothers are constantly ignoring you for football. it's even harder after rin leaves for blue lock, and sae is still in italy. it gets to the point you're not sure if they're your brothers or strangers because of how sudden the disconnection was.
trying to keep in touch with both of them but sae only ever reads you on read, and rin got his phone taken away for the blue lock project, so you're left alone.
you remind yourself that these were the people who used to give you piggyback rides on demand, shared their snacks with you, treated whatever injuries you had from running around, fended off bullies for you, and were as great as older brothers could be. hell, you've forgotten when things went wrong.
standing at the doorway shocked when rin comes home for the two week break he received from blue lock. of course, you went to his game against sae and cheered both of them on from the stands, but you didn't do anything to garner their attention. you were scared of them more or less. and now, seeing rin an arms distance away from you struck fear into your veins that you couldn't utter a word to him.
you forgot what type of person he is, especially after the change he went through when sae left for good. and the realization hurt you a lot.
but you didn't dare to cry in front of him. he might get annoyed by your sudden emotional attitude and leave again, so you left him at the doorway and went to your room to cry your heart out.
but you didn't know that rin was waiting for your eyes to light up like fireworks and pamper him with hugs and questions of his time in blue lock. however, all he got was you tearing up and leaving him at the door without a single word.
it's then he realizes that he changed too much after what happened between him and sae that you weren't sure who he was. even when he stood in front of your room door and hearing you cry your eyes out, he couldn't do anything because he didn't have the right to comfort you after leaving you alone.
the loneliness you had to bear was too cruel for you, rin thought, but he couldn't act upon it because what right did he have to suddenly act like a proper older brother when he had all the time in the world before to prevent you from being scared of him. you're only eleven-years-old, so what could he expect from you except this?
sae is notified of this development when rin miraculously texts him and says, "y/n's scared of us."
let me tell you that this man swore he felt his heart fall out of ass after seeing that. it doesn't matter if he was in the middle of practice, a game, or just chillin at his hotel room, his blood will turn cold.
he will also book the quickest flight to japan as soon as he is available too, so he could talk to rin face to face about it.
of course, they're still on horribly bad terms with each other, but that's not the problem because you're more valuable than some rivalry.
when rin tells sae how you reacted upon seeing him at home, sae literally wants to pull his hair out for not bothering to text you at least hi or good morning or something to let you know that he still cared and wanted to let you know that he was still alive.
and the whole thing eats both of them alive because they don't know how to apologize for shit. they want to, they really do, but they can't think of anything to help you forgive them for treating you like you didn't exist.
sae knows that he's the last person on earth you should forgive, but he can't help but hope that you're still the kindhearted little sister you were and have mercy on his heart. (ironic because he didn't have any of yours.)
rin shares the same thought, but doesn't have as much hope because he's been living in the same house as you up until the blue lock project. he thinks that he doesn't deserve your forgiveness and wouldn't even blame you if you start hating him for everything.
however, whether or not you choose to forgive them, they'll do their best to be considerate of you. sae promises himself that he'll answer all your texts, memes, or whatever you send him with at least an emoji, and rin determines himself to spend some time with you before he had to go again.

-;, gloves ; itoshi rin > you can’t stand rin. he abhors you right back- at least, you're pretty sure he does, anyways.
## author's note: surprise! this was meant to be a drabble! shout out to mai for the awesome feedback i <3 u
there is no sound more grating than itoshi rin’s voice. it’s like nails on a chalkboard, a premonition of bad things to come.
his ego is insufferable. the way he looks down on everyone else is embarrassing and cruel. and he’s mean, with the way shuns anyone who tries to speak to him with his brutal words.
you, however, are lucky enough to be the top name on his hit list. he never holds back with you, his words his weapon and you his enemy. with others, he'd be content with ignoring them if they stayed out of his way. but with you? he's always hated your guts. you're not too sure why, but you're not complaining.
long before you realized who he was- (a lunatic, a loser, an egotist)- you were rather impartial to him. it was rin, first, who'd burned the barely-there bridge that lay between you. his sharp looks and uncalled-for comments had blistered your nerves and frayed your patience like it was fine thread.
he never passes on an opportunity to take a dig at you- your looks, your personality, your humor- whatever he can get, he takes. so yeah, itoshi rin hates you, and by proxy, the feeling is very much mutual.
so when he shows up in your clinic 5 minutes before closing, you are beyond annoyed.
well, it's not exactly your clinic- though, it might as well be. it's on the blue lock site, and run by an older woman who's never really there. on the rare occasions she actually showed up to work, she could usually be found in a deep slumber on one of the beds, snoozing peacefully as if there weren't injured athletes coming in every hour.
you basically ran the thing, even though you were only meant to be an apprentice. it was never a bother, though- the players of blue lock were generally not weird and not too annoying. actually, you had been having a pretty lovely day- some of the contestants you'd befriended had visited you and hung around for an hour or so, keeping you company as you tidied the small space.
it's safe to say your good mood was soured the instant a certain individual walked through the doors. the bell jingles and you snap upright from where you were sweeping debris from the floor, eyes narrowing as you saw who it was.
rin looked less than happy to be there. his arms were crossed over his chest, and his expression was flat and annoyed. his figure contrasted the blank, dark sky. past him, you could see snowdrifts lining the floor outside the clinic. you'd forgotten how cold it had been recently. if rin felt the bitter chill, he didn't show it.
he's wearing his practice attire with a navy crewneck thrown over top, and a pair of thin gloves. and he doesn't seem the slightest bit cold. you wonder if he's used to the snow- was it common where he was from?
"what're you here for?" you sound unfriendly and you don't think you'd have it any other way. his nostrils flare and he shuts the door behind him.
(as he moved, you notice a slight, strange shifting in his steps- a limp.)
"it’s not by choice, trust me,” he mutters. unceremoniously, he plops onto one of the open beds and kicks up his feet. his shoes are still on. you think he does this just to spite you.
you check the time. 5 minutes until 9 pm, until you’d finally be free to take the bus back to your apartment. you sigh and make a mental note to look up when the next bus would come.
“your leg?”
“yeah.”
you’re a bit surprised he hasn’t had anything bitter to say yet, as you examine his injury- a dark bruise forming above an undeniably sprained ankle. your fingers flutter over the darkened skin- an expanse that surpasses the main injury, spreading past his knee to his outer thigh.
you put on a poker face to hide your grimace- this must’ve hurt. and you notice that rin, too, stills under your touch. his skin burns hot and you’re not even touching him.
“do you.. have a fever?”
rin scoffs and jerks his head away so he’s not looking at you. “are you stupid? you’re the medical professional here.”
his words drip with venom and your brow furrows. you reach across him to place the back of your palm against his warm face. “you’re burning up.”
he swats your hand away with a scowl. you don’t miss the slight pink tinge to his cheeks, and your eyes widen in surprise. a smile tugs at your lips.
“looks like a nasty sprain.” you’re already back behind your desk, leaving rin alone. you busy yourself with continuing to tidy up and the force of his gaze burns into you like fire.
“okay? what do you want me to do with that information, you piece of shit pediatrician?”
your head pops out from behind the desk. “i’m not a pediatrician.”
“you seem like the kind of person who can only get along with children and not people your own age.”
a huff of air escapes you. “i get along fine with people who aren't... y'know."
he swings his legs off the bed and you give him a look. "you've gotta rest. keep that leg elevated, and put ice or pressure on it. that might hurt, though, with the bruising."
your words brought rin back to the memory of your hands ghosting his skin and he loses the steel tone to his voice. "am i free to go?"
you shrug. you would like to be meaner but you're too tired at the moment. "sure. just come back in like, a week, so i can check on you."
"you're a horrible doctor."
"i'm not a doctor."
"then you're just horrible."
something tells you that rin is too tired to argue, as well, because he's all bark and no bite. his attempts make you laugh and you think you're either going crazy or can see a ghost of a smile creasing his face. you blink and it's gone- but he's still there.
"are you gonna go?"
"i will," he starts defensively, "just waiting for you."
he blinks like his words surprised even himself. you tilt your head. "how very polite."
"of course. wouldn't want anyone to catch a glimpse of your face and then wither away and die."
"oh. nevermind."
he stands up and tries to hide how he winces when his injured leg hits the floor. you watch him slide on his gloves warily. "you done cleaning or what?"
"i'm done."
"come on, then."
you're not sure what changed. maybe the snow that had been falling earlier that day had gotten inhaled and stuck in between his neurons. he hadn't stopped staring at you since he'd entered the clinic, either. he's never been so normal around you. you glance at him as he opens the door for you and there's a heaviness under his eyes- he's tired.
oh. that explains it. itoshi rin does hate you- he's just too exhausted to be bitchy about it. something in you wilts, but you hate him too so you pay it no mind.
the both of you walk in silence until you're about halfway through the property, your negativity brewing like tea in a kettle. it's close to indescribable, how you feel. you want to talk to rin. but he wouldn't want to talk to you. and you shouldn't, you really shouldn't want to like this annoying, insufferable, arrogant piece of human garbage.
"where's your apartment?" he asks.
(your kettle boils over.)
"not far. 10 minutes out."
he nods. you expect the walk to continue in silence until he speaks again. (you hate to admit that you are so, so happy it doesn't.)
"i didn't mean to make you miss your bus."
you snort a laugh and he glances over at you. "is that an apology?"
and suddenly, he can't meet your eyes. oh. it was. you shift your gaze and he suddenly looks very small and uncomfortable, walking next to you. "i'd rather you see me than just go home for that. it's my job. i don't mind."
"i thought you said you weren't a doctor."
"i'm definitely not."
an air of tension shattered with that brief conversation. the ice in the air had melted, and you weren't too sure what to make of it. you pretended to not see the way rin's eyes never left your figure as he continued walking in silence beside you.

the bus station is quiet and empty. the whisper of the wind forces a shiver out of you as the icy air licks your skin. rin's gaze flits over you the way it has so many times that day, as you take a seat on the bench.
checking the time on your phone, you see that it's a good 10 minutes until the bus' arrival. you bite the inside of your cheek. "thank you for walking me."
"mhm."
rin remains standing, arms crossed.
"especially with your fucked up leg."
"it's not fucked up."
at this, you laugh again. he half-glares at you but there's something softer lingering in his expression- something you don't recognize. "i'm a doctor. you can't lie to me about these things."
"so now you're a doctor?"
"i'm more of one than you."
his brow furrows and he sits on your left. "that doesn't make any sense. of course you are."
"my point exactly."
he sighs but you think he might be fighting a smile. and you're hit with a strange feeling because there's no way that this is the same boy that you've held a grudge against since the day you met him.
he's easy to talk to, even if he doesn't have the most creative replies. he'd caring, even if he doesn't outright show it. you wonder what else you could learn about the enigma that is itoshi rin tonight.
and then you feel even stranger, because he hates you. there's no way around it. he glares at you at any given chance, he calls you demeaning things, he hasn't said a kind word to you, he's never even spared you a glance until tonight.
you wonder what changed, as you look at him. he turns his gaze to you and electricity sparks as your eyes meet. he opens his mouth. he closes it. and then he speaks.
"are you cold?"
you blink in surprise, because you were cold, to the bone, shivering like a leaf in the wind. you're fully dressed and wearing the warmest sweater you could find, but your hands are still reddened with frost. you're kind of impressed by how rin seems unaffected.
"a little," you lie. he sighs and you watch in silence as he peels off his right glove and hands it to you.
"here."
you blink down at the worn, black glove before sliding it onto your right hand. "thanks."
and your heart stutters, and then stops, because he reaches down without looking and holds your bare hand with his. his skin is warm to the touch and you swear you can hear his heartbeat lurch in his wrist. you look at him and he keeps staring straight ahead.
he runs hot, you realize, which is probably why he was able to bear the temperatures outside. did he even need gloves? why was he wearing this?
and then, it hits you: did he plan this?
you hate itoshi rin, but you let him hold your hand as you walk through the snow-covered paths. you hate itoshi rin, but you're holding hands and wearing his glove, alone together as you wait for your bus.
you hate itoshi rin and he hates you, but he shifts closer to you and you feel the fight leaving your body.
you bite your lip before you speak, hesitantly addressing the situation: "you're holding my hand."
as soon as the words leave your mouth you want to hit yourself. rin raises an eyebrow. "yeah."
"why?"
you see how rin's face flushes pink in the night and how his ears are practically emitting smoke. he doesn't reply, but you feel his grip loosening in yours- you tighten your hold. he doesn't pull away.
"i thought you hated me."
at this, rin blanches. "what?"
you shrug. "yeah."
he blinks at you, and then he looks away. "no."
"you don't hate me?"
"no."
you purse your lips. "you suck at talking to people."
he glares at you. "i don't hate you."
the eye contact makes you shiver. "then why are you... like that?"
"like what?"
"you're... like, mean."
at this, your companion looks away. embarrassment colours his features and you're upset because he looks cute. "i don't mean to be."
"oh?"
it's silent for a beat until he continues. "you're just.. i dunno."
a sly smile crosses your face as you try to ease the tension. "what, don't tell me i make you nervous, rin!"
but he doesn't reply, opting to stare straight into the distance. oh.
oh.
"you don't hate me," you say slowly, like you're contemplating it, before grinning. "wonderful. i was getting sick of disliking you back."
he's still holding your hand, and you give it a squeeze. rin's eyes widen and you could almost laugh at how out of character all this was.
"cool."
"yep. awesome."
a bright light appears, and your bus is here. the both of you stand, neither willing to disconnect your hands. you eventually pull out of his grasp, and he looks a bit like a lost dog.
with a short laugh, you plant your hands on his jaw and place a short, sweet kiss on the apple of his cheek, leaving him redder than he was to begin with.
he opens his mouth for a few seconds before finally finding his words as you step towards the open bus doors. "text me when you're home?"
"yeah. yeah, i will. goodnight, rin."
"goodnight", he says back, but you're already gone. the bus drives away and he is left reeling, head spinning, heart roaring, absolutely, positively infatuated.
it's not until the cold night winds strike his bare hand does rin realize- you still have his glove.
