Warnings: SPOILERS SEASON 4, Character Death, Broken bones, Gore, Mentions of death.
ββPromise me youβre not going to do something to get yourself killed?ββ Steve asks you. You were both sitting outside the RV, you were wrapping the wire around the spear you were going to use against the bats in the upside down.
You rolled your eyes at his assumption, ββIβm donβt plan on dying anytime soon Steve,ββ You set down the spear on your lap looking at him, ββYou better not either.ββ You say threatening him. ββThen who is going to drive me around?ββ You say earning a hint of a smile from him. ββIβm thinking of making you drive me to Yosemite next.ββ
ββYosemite huh?ββ He asks, sounding amused, ββIβve always wanted to go on a roadtrip like that, take all my kids with me when I have them.ββ He tells you.
ββKids as in plural?ββ You ask him. ββYou already have like six,ββ You say gesturing out in the field to Dustin and Eddie who were wrestling, Dustin was in a headlock making you laugh.
ββAnd I want six of my own too,ββ He says and you widen your eyes at him making him laugh, ββI could change my mind but at least two, no three.ββ He sounded very sure of his answer.
ββA big family sounds nice,ββ You tell him.
ββYou think so? Doesnβt scare you away when I say that?ββ He asks fiddling with his hands.
ββNo not at all, plus it makes sense youβre an only child. Figures youβd want a big family.ββ You tell him.
He looked at you like he was shocked, he let out a sigh before he spoke. ββI never really thought of that, but it makes sense.ββ
ββI always do Harrington,ββ You say, taking your hand pushing on his arm gently. You glance up noticing Nancy and Robin talking, she was sawing her gun down it seemed like her conversation with Jason made her a little on edge. ββSo you and Nancy?ββ You ask Steve.
He looked a little uncomfortable when you asked, ββWhat about us?ββ He asks and you give him an annoyed look, he knew what you were asking. ββI donβt know what's going on Iβm just as confused as you.ββ He explains. ββI think apart of it is because Jonathan is halfway across the country.ββ
You look down at the ground unsure of what to say, ββWhat if itβs not that?ββ He looks over to you, ββWould you do that again?ββ You ask him, it was practically eating you alive to know.
ββI feel like a lot of things got left unresolved with us,ββ Is all he answers, ββWould it be wrong if I did?ββ He ask you.
ββI mean itβs your love life Steve,ββ You point out. ββWhy do you care what I think anyway?ββ
Steve looked at you, his face looked like he was confused, ββI always care what you think Y/N,ββ He tells you.
You stand up and Steve looked to you as you did, ββWho knows what happens when we go in upside down Steve, you almost died earlier.ββ You say scrunching your face up at the thought, seeing Steve on the floor, those bats gnawing at his skin would forever be etched in your brain. ββNow is not the time to hold in emotions, if you care about someone you tell them.ββ You see Steve visually take a deep breath, he patted his hands on his jeans standing up next to you. You watched his eyes on Nancy as he took a hand patting your back walking over to her, Robin slowly made her way over to you.
ββYou okay?ββ She asks.
You watched Nancy smile at something Steve said and you shake your head turning to Robin. ββNever better,ββ You say, offering her a fake smile.
If only you could take your own advice.
______________________
Steve was the first to go into the upside down, then Nancy followed of course. Then Robin and finally it was your turn, you grabbed onto the sheets pulling yourself up and finally felt yourself free falling, landing on your back knocking the wind out of you. Steve reached out a hand helping you up, as soon as you were on your feet you pulled your hand from his and he seemed distressed. ββYou okay?ββ He says his hand is touching the side of your arm.
ββWe are currently upside down, how do you think Iβm doing?ββ You say the sarcasm dripping from your voice.
ββRight,ββ Steve says, a moment later a pile of weapons falls down landing on the mattress. You and Steve both turn looking down at it, you bend down grabbing as many as you could, taking yours and strapping it behind your back.
It was moments before you all split up, just as you walked out of the RV behind Dustin and Eddie that Steve stopped you. ββHey listen, if things start to go south, I mean at all you abort.ββ His voice was serious, you glanced at Dustin knowing you had to do what you could to protect him, that if anything happened to him Steve would never forgive himself.
You hear snapping breaking you out of your thoughts, Steve looked at you, ββYou hear me Y/N? No hero shit.ββ He emphasizes.
You walk closer to Steve staring him straight in the eye, ββNow do we look like heros to you?ββ You ask him to gesture to Dustin then Eddie.
ββWe are not heroes,ββ Eddie emphasized behind you, laughing.
You reach forward laying a hand on Steve's shoulder, ββDonβt worry Steve, you can be the hero.ββ You tell him. He gave a sort of half hearted grin but he still looked nervous as Hell.
His eyes lingered on your for a moment before he pulled away your hand dropping back to your side. Just as he turned around Eddie stepped out from behind you, ββHey Steve?ββ He calls out. Steve turns around to look at him, ββMake him pay.ββ
Steve nods, turning back around taking off with Nancy and Robin. ββWe should go,ββ You tell both Eddie and Dustin. You all began walking off in the opposite direction, a few seconds had passed and you glanced back to look at Steve for more time, he had happened to be looking too. You shift your weapon on your back, turn around and walk backwards, you look at Steve and give him a salute from afar but it was too far for you to see his response back.
ββHumor me Y/N,ββ Eddie tells you. ββHow long have you been pining over Harrington?ββ He asks.
ββWhat?ββ You ask him to turn around, noticing both Eddie and Dustin with an amused smile on their faces.
ββAt least since last year,ββ Dustin chimes in.
ββDustin!ββ You yell at him. ββYou donβt know that!ββ You tell him.
ββDo you not remember when you were on drugs last year?ββ He asks you to refer to the Russian Base underneath the mall. You had worked there with Steve and Robin last year and got wrapped into everything.
ββDrugs?ββ Eddie says amused. ββYou donβt take me for that kind of girl.ββ He smirks.
ββIβm not!ββ You glare at Dustin, ββHe left out key information, which was that I was unknowingly drugged by Russian Soldiers!ββ You say and Eddie's face looked bewildered.
ββWhat?ββ Eddie says his voice seemed confused and amused at the same time.
ββShe totally confessed to being in love with Steve last year when she was on drugs,ββ He tells you.
ββWhy have you never told me this?ββ You ask him.
Dustin Shrugs his shoulders, ββNever came up,ββ He says simply.
You sigh and Eddie laughs, ββIs it really that obvious?ββ You ask tilting your head.
ββKind of I mean you practically lost it when he got pulled in the water,ββ He says. ββWhy havenβt you said anything to him?ββ
ββJust never the right time, last year after the mall was just too much. And finally when things were calming down this happens.ββ You admit. ββAnd now Nancy is back and Steve has a soft spot when it comes to her, and I donβt know if I want to compete with Nancy.ββ
ββShe was his first love,ββ Dustin chimes in.
ββThanks,ββ You pause. ββFor that reminder Dustin,ββ He holds his hands up in defense.
ββYou should tell him,ββ Eddie says.
ββIf we make it out of here I just might,ββ You admit to him seeing the RV in the distance. ββEmphasis on the if,ββ You felt the nerves in your stomach getting worse by the minute and it was only going to get worse from here.
ββPromise?ββ He says.
ββWhat?ββ
ββPromise youβll say something,ββ He says.
You look at him amused that he cared so much, ββPromise,ββ You say scrunching your eyebrows not questioning him as to why he cared.
When you got to the RV everything had seemed to speed up, you were waiting for the phase three signal from Robin. Dustin was supposed to tell you when Eddie was and Dustin were on top of the RV getting the Amp set up to broadcast the sound, you were down on the ground putting up more metal to help shield you when the bats came. Plus eventually youβd end up here anyway, that was the plan when the bats got closed you all were to use the RV as a way to shield yourself knowing they would come after you.
You hear Dustin from up above you, ββCopy, Initiating Phase three!ββ Dustin yells. Only a moment later you heard Eddie beginning to shred on the guitar, as the song went on you felt your heart practically pouding out of your chest. A flash of red lightning is what caught your attention seeing the silhouette of the bats getting closer.
ββDustin!ββ You yell, you could see him glance down at you from the top. You point with your finger at the bats showing him your plan was working, he looked through the binoculars and yelled to Eddie. You ran back to the inside of the cage surrounding the van your hand against the metal ready to close it when they finally came down. And the thirty seconds quickly turned into ten and Dustin and Eddie came barreling in as you slammed the cage shut just as the bats hit causing you to jump. ββInside! Inside!ββ You scream at them following behind as they ran in the RV slamming the door shut.
You were all panting, your hands rested on your knees as you were bent over trying to catch your breath, ββDude!ββ Dustin calls out gaining your attention, ββMost metal ever!ββ He says and Eddie and him begin jumping upside down, you look at them both laughing.
ββThat was pretty amazing Eddie,ββ You tell him.
ββBest concert Iβll ever go to,ββ He laughs as you tell him. Dustin and Eddie look to one another and begin yelling, jumping up and down shaking the van even more than it already was from the bats outside.
It didnβt take long after that for you all to figure out you were surrounded, the screeching was getting louder meaning more and more were around you. They were banging up against the metal, all three of you stood back to back with your weapon in your hand as you all just waited for them to break through.
That was when it got quiet.
ββHey dipshits!ββ Dustin screams.
You took a deep breath as he yelled, ββDustin!ββ You whispered.
ββGive up that easy huh?ββ Dustin screams even lounder.
Both you and Eddie shush him, ββIs that really necessary?ββ Eddie asks.
The clattering from above you stopped any conversation. You looked up hearing the metal above you being scraped, ββEddie they canβt get in right?ββ You ask him warily, all of you followed the sound above ending up under a vent. ββEddie?ββ You ask him after no response
You screamed when the bats broke through the vent, the panic rising in your chest. You lifted your weapon moving in close with Dustin taking turns stabbing the bats trying to get in. βDie! Die, Die!β Dustin screams everytime he stabs them.
βEddie!β You yell. βEddie help!β You yell in a panic.
A second later you feel Eddie pushing you back slightly, βGet out of the way! Get out of the way!β He yells the shield he made earlier in his hand. He runs directly at the vent slamming it over top of him stopping the bats. Dustin falls back leaning against something a deep breath falls from his lips.
βHoly shit, Holy shit,β Eddie keeps repeating.
You felt yourself relax but it was only for a short moment, until Dustin spoke. βAre there other vents?β
The look on Eddieβs face told you there was, βshit, shit, shit!β He kept muttering. Everyone moves with him running to the back of the RV where Eddieβs bedroom was and as soon as he swung the door open the bats came flying toward you ready to attack. βShit!β He screams along with you and Dustin pushing you both back behind the door slamming it shut. Immediately after he shut the door the wood began to break, you knew it wouldnβt hold long.
ββShit, shit, shit,ββ You mutter, also hearing similar words from both Dustin and Eddie. ββWhat do we do?ββ You yell over the bats pounding into the door, ββThatβs not gonna hold long!ββ You yell at them.
ββLetβs go! Letβs go!ββ Eddie screams.
You turn to Dusin who already had his hands on the sheets, you help him by holding his foot in your hand giving him something to push off as he climbs through the gate. ββEddie, go!ββ You yell at him as Dustin goes through the gate.
You were the oldest making sure everyone got through before you was important, ββYou first!ββ He tells you.
ββEddie, go!ββ You yell trying to plead with him.
ββWe donβt have time to argue go!ββ He yells at you holding his hand out for your foot. He was right there was no time to argue the door was breaking further by the second. You lift your leg putting your foot in his hand and he helps give you a push up at you grab onto the sheet pulling up as fast as you could. You landed on your back, Dustin held his hand out pulling you up so Eddie had a place to land.
You finally got to your feet looking down at the gate seeing Eddie starting to climb, he was about halfway up when he paused. ββEddie! Come on!ββ You scream down at him, Dustin doing the same next to you. ββCome on!ββ You yell at him.
Eddie seemed to have some sort of realization on his face as he looked up at both you and Dusitn. ββEddie climb!ββ You yell at him. You got down on your knees peering down at him as he glanced back at the door.
Eddie let go of the sheet a moment later and you and Dustin screamed, ββEddie what the Hell?ββ You yell down at him. He picked up his spear and cut the sheet and it dropped into Dustin's hand.ββEddie! No! What are you doing?ββ
He picked up the mattress and began flipping it out of the way, no doubt so you and Dustin couldnβt follow in pursuit. ββNo! No! Eddie!ββ Dustin was screaming next to you.
ββWhat are you doing Eddie?ββ
ββIβm buying more time,ββ Is all he says. Grabbing his shield and the spear, he ran off after that.
You watched Dustin next to you with his hands on his head in distress, ββOh god,ββ He says to himself.
You looked around panicked and unsure of what to do, you couldnβt let Eddie go alone. Think, think, think. ββDustin, I am going to get him and bring his ass back here.ββ You tell him. You grab the chair laying a few feet away, putting it just under the gate.
ββY/N let me go!ββ Dustin yells at you as you brace yourself for a run. You were a few feet down the hallway you knew a running start would help you.
ββNo,ββ You tell him sternly. ββYou stay here, do not follow me Dustin, and when you can radio Steve.ββ You instruct him. You took a deep breath ignoring the rest of Dustin's pleads to get you to stay and him to go.
You took off running and as soon as your feet got to the chair you jumped, you went through the gate and landed on your arm. You screamed in pain when you landed, ββY/N? Y/N? What happened?ββ You can hear Dustin yelling.
When you finally got over the immediate wave of pain you pushed yourself up with your opposite hand looking down you could see your hand was visible disformed at the wrist, you had broken it. ββIβm fine Dustin,ββ You call up to him though your voice says otherwise. ββRadio Steve when you can!ββ You tell him through your tears, the pain was terrible, but you had no time to wait around Eddie was in trouble.
After that you walked out of the RV, Eddie couldnβt be too far ahead from you. You looked around the area when you got outside noticing the bike was missing that had been there previously. ββDammit,ββ You mutter to yourself. You heard a loud noise come from inside the RV one similar to when you had come down. When you peered in the door you saw Dustin laying on the ground his face grimaced in pain as he held his leg.
ββDustin!ββ You yell running toward him. ββI told you to stay!ββ He mustβve landed on it. ββAre you okay?ββ You ask him.
ββI landed on it.ββ He tells you through the tears in his eyes.
ββCan you walk?ββ
He nods his head, you reach down grabbing his hand with your good arm helping him off the floor but he puts no pressure on his leg. ββGo ahead without me,ββ He tells you. You reach over grabbing what looked like a broom handing it to him so he could use it to help walk.
You didnβt wait another second; you practically ran out the door glancing around for the bats in the sky. The red lightning illuminated the bats and you saw they were swarming in a circle which couldnβt be good at all. You looked back Dustin was only a few feet behind you hobbling toward you, you quickened your pace running over toward the bats not giving yourself long enough to debate if it was a good or bad idea.
When you finally got there all of the bats had dropped from the sky as if some invisible force had killed them. You saw Eddie laying on the floor, all the bats surrounded him. You ran as fast as you could landing on your knees in front of him. The blood was coming from his mouth, you knew that was not a good sign.
ββEddie? Eddie?ββ You say taking your good hand touching his cheek, tapping it lightly, ββHey come on you need to look at me,ββ You forced a smile at him with the tears forming in your eyes at his state. ββYouβre okay, youβre okay.ββ You kept repeating.
A moment later Dustin dropped onto his hands carefully getting on the ground with you, he pulled Eddieβs head so it was resting on his leg, ββOh god Eddie,ββ He said examining him, there was blood all over him.
ββDustin,ββ You say still trying to hold back your tears but he just kept his eyes on Eddie, ββDustin I am gonna try and find something maybe we can stop the bleeding,ββ You tell him. He doesnβt seem to pay attention so you raise off the ground and start running back toward the RV once again, the sheet in there that could stop the bleeding right?
You ran as fast as you could to the RV still cradling your arm to your chest, you finally made your way back running inside. The sheet was already on the floor so you quickly picked it up running back out of the RV toward Eddie and Dustin, that was when the ground began to shake. You felt the ground shaking and immediately tripped but caught yourself. The loud noise behind you caught your attention and you watched as the gate that was once inside the RV had broken out and it just kept expanding straight ahead, luckily it was opposite of where Dustin was.
The ground shaking was making it hard to walk but you got back to Dustin as fast as you could, you noticed when he came into view that he stood above where Eddie had previously laid on his leg, Eddie laid on the ground shaking with the earth but he wasnβt moving. ββDustin?ββ You yell out at him gaining his attention. When you got close enough you noticed the tears were streaming down his face, ββHe didnβt-?ββ You couldnβt finish the sentence.
He shook his head before you could finish anyway, ββWhat do we do?ββ He asked and you could clearly hear how emotional he was.
ββI donβt know-ββ You say glancing around, ββI donβt know!ββ You say. ββDid you radio Steve? We need to call Steve - Nancy, Nancy will know what to do.ββ You tell him feeling distressed.
ββI did,ββ He tells you. ββNo response, from him or anyone else.ββ He tells you.
And it seemed like someone, somewhere was looking out for you and Dustin because only a moment later you heard a voice sounding just a stressed as you felt coming through.
βY/N! Dustin?β You hear coming from the radio, it was the sweetest sound you had ever heard.
____________
ββY/N!ββ You hear your mom call from downstairs, ββPhone!ββ
ββBusy,ββ You yell, staring up at the ceiling, not busy at all in fact.
You hear footsteps coming up the stairs and you pull yourself up from the bed resting on your elbows anticipating her opening the door. She swings the door open a moment later, ββItβs Steve,ββ She pauses, ββAgain.ββ You sigh. ββHe really wants to talk to you honey, heβs probably just worried.ββ
ββAre you going to work?ββ You ask, noticing her scrub uniform.
ββYep, lots of shortages. Lots of people packed up and left, I donβt blame them if we had the money we would too.ββ She tells you. ββDo you need anything before I leave? Need any more medicine for your arm?ββ She asks and you glance down at the cast.
ββIβm good,ββ You tell her. ββLove you,ββ You tell her before she leaves. Your mom worked as a nurse at the hospital when you finally got out of the upside down you went straight to her and she was pretty much able to help you get in to get your arm that same night although your injuries were nothing compared to some peoples.
A few hours later you were down in the kitchen making a frozen pizza, a little bit after the pizza went in the doorbell rang. You began walking toward the front door when the person decided to knock persistently, ββIβm coming!ββ You yell, shaking your head slightly annoyed.
When you pulled the door open Steve Harrington stood in front of you hands in his pockets. You looked at him in shock for a moment which gave him the perfect opportunity to slip in the house, ββCan I come in?ββ He asks, already walking through the door.
ββSure come on in,ββ You say sarcastically, shutting the door behind you. ββWhat are you doing here?ββ You ask him.
He puts one hand on his hip resting it there, ββWell you donβt return calls and itβs been three days.ββ He tells you. ββWhy are you ignoring me?ββ He asks.
You sigh, ββI just needed some time to myselfβ¦a lot,ββ You say your eyes are focusing on a single spot on the floor, ββA lot happened.ββ You tell him.
ββI know it did,ββ He says, stepping forward. ββAre you okay?ββ He asks.
You shrug your shoulders, ββI mean yeah,ββ You tell him but you can tell in your voice that you were about to break.
ββHey,ββ Steve says gently, pulling you into a hug, your hands wrapped around his torso as he rests his head on top of yours. ββYouβre okay now,ββ He tells you.
ββWe just left him Steve,ββ You sob.
You could feel him pull you in closer if that was possible, ββWe had to get out, and there was no way we could carry him out.ββ He says rubbing comforting circles on your back with his hand.
ββHis uncle-He-He is putting up missing flyers for him.ββ You try to get out your crying not letting you get out a sentence without having to take a deep breath. ββMy mom she told me theyβre all over the hospital.ββ
Steve pulls back from you, ββCome on,ββ He says walking you to the couch sitting down with you, he still had his arm around you and you curled your body up so it rested on him. ββWe did what we could, what we had to do.ββ He tries to tell you. ββAnd that doesnβt make what happened any easier but we have to think about what could've happened had we not gotten out when we did. Someone else couldβve been hurt, then what would we have done?ββ He asks you.
ββIt just feels wrong,ββ You tell him. You push yourself up looking at him, ββHow is Dustin?ββ You ask, realizing you hadnβt talked to him since you got home.
ββHeβs rough,ββ He admits. ββBut managing.ββ
You didnβt say anything after that, you just both sat in silence. An hour or so later your head was in his lap and he was tracing circles on your shoulder as you stared up at the ceiling. ββThanks for coming over,ββ You tell him.
He looks down at you, ββThis is the only way I could talk to you,ββ He says and you smile sheepishly at him.
ββSteve?ββ You ask. He hums in response, ββI donβt know what happened with you and Nancy and I made a promise I would do this, and I really want to keep it.ββ You start to ramble and Steve looks at you intently. ββAnd I'm just gonna come out and say it instead of beating around the bush-ββ You continue.
ββY/N,ββ Steve interrupted you, ββJust say it.ββ
ββIβm in love with you, and not in the way best friends love each other.ββ You say watching his eyes widen a bit looking at you as if he was shocked. ββAnd I have been for a while..ββ You pause, not really sure how he was feeling.
ββYou are?ββ He asks. ββSince when?ββ He asks.
ββSince last year,ββ You tell him, ββWhen you got the job at scoops and I was training you I had a crush and weβve hung out a lot more since and yeah,ββ You explain to him. ββAnd I just-,ββ You pause feeling emotional from the confession. ββI just had to tell you, I promised Eddie I would.ββ
He glanced up when you mentioned Eddie his facial expressions looked shocked like he didnβt know what to say. βI just had to tell you and if you donβt feel the same-β You began to say but your were cut short when you felt his hand come up to your cheek he was staring at you not saying a word.
βSteve?β You say breathless from his touch.
He doesnβt say anything instead he leans in his lips touching yours. He was slow with it and delicate, his hand gently resting on your cheek. βI never wanted to ruin anything,β He says when he pulls away. βLast year I realized I felt the same, and then now when we were upside down all I could think was is Y/N safe? That's when I knew.β
He paused for a moment, βAnd then I heard Dustin on the radio and he was begging us to come and I felt like I couldnβt breathe because he was so vague I thought something happened to you,β He tells you.
You reach your hand up putting it over the one that was on your cheek, βAnd then I saw you and your hand,β He glances down to the cast.
βI was fine,β You say, offering him a smile, βI was just waiting for you,β You admit. βYou always keep me waiting, Harrington,β He smiles.
He leans in kissing you again, βNo more waiting around, Iβm right here.β He tells you.

Sitting on the rooftop, you look up at the vast sky ahead of you. Your eyes making out the shapes within the clouds and your heart beating slow and steady, as calm as you could be. Things were perfect this high up, the sunset making the entire world a luminescent orange and sparkling off the glass of the city buildings below. The cars honking and the various shouts of the people below.
You were on top of the Empire State building. And next to you, was the infamous Spiderman.
Said superhero was currently devouring a chili dog.
"Could you chew quieter? I'm trying to meditate," you said, pushing your loose strands of hair away from your face and fixing the sweater adorning your shoulders. You squinted at him through warning eyes and then laid down in a similar position as before. Before you could get too comfortable, Peter slides down next to you and continues to annoy you by chewing in your ear.
"Is this any better?" He asks with a knowing grin.
"You're such an asshole." You laugh, and swat the chili dog out of his hands. It was only supposed to fall but you forgot about the fact you were up so high, and, well. Physics.
"NO!" Peter yells as he watches his delicious meal fall off the roof and down to the city below. Before you could say 'what the fuck are you doing?' he jumps off the roof after it.
"Peter?"
His image is going, going, gone. Just as you thought that you had gotten left up there, he resurfaces with his web shooters and the food in his hand.
"You made the onions fall off."

For The Glory of Rome
MARCUS ACACIUS X READER
You're finishing your senior year at Orpheus University when your history class is chosen to give an evaluation on one of the professors. Why does he feel so familiar?
β οΈ Past lives AU! Reader is Geta and Caracalla's sister! Reader is also 22 years old, Pedro is older. β οΈ
The mountains were just visible through the window you were sitting next to; their peaks reaching toward the sky above, almost as if in embrace. They were beautiful at this wintry time of year, with the snow cascading down their formations and painting them white. Bare trees that flanked them transformed into branches of green where the cold hadn't hit just yet- your eyes traveling further down the scene. It was that transitory period of the merging seasons, where autumn became winter and left everyone with an odd illness due to the changing weather patterns. Both snow and leaves were tracked inside the bustling classrooms that were alive with the excited chatter amongst the students. Everyone was excited for the upcoming break that would mark the end of the semester. For you, it would mean the midway point of your senior year at Orpheus.
You'd gone to Orpheus all three years of your college career so far, immediately entranced by the large stone pillared building it was. It was so different from your usual pace in the rainy countryside, with its suburban feel and authentic restaurants. It wasn't immediately that you felt the urge to explore the grand halls of the place and to make it your home, but that feeling came soon enough. One glance at the psychology department and a sip of coffee from the bistro down the road were enough to convince whatever part of you left unsure this would be the place. Even with how far you had to uproot yourself and make such a move, you'd made the connections you'd needed and the friends you'd always wanted.
Lee had sat himself next to you this morning with a coffee cup in hand and his phone in the other. He was addicted to that screen- any video that would appear around his recent interest in Danish pop music would be enough to send him down a spiral of excitement. The coffee, however, was for you.
"Morning!" He said, way too chipper for an 8:00am class. He usually went to Starbucks way too close to the time you were meant to be seated with only a minute left to spare. How he didn't have crippling anxiety around his time management, you'd never know. But he did bring you a drink.
"Hey, Lee." You said, with as much energy as you could muster at the moment given how tired you were. "Thanks for the coffee."
Lee threw his bag onto the ground under the long tables in the lecture hall. His spot had been on the other side of the room for the majority of the class as he'd argued he couldn't focus if seated next to you for laughter purposes. However, today he plopped himself down into the one next to you with his notebook open to the most recent material from last week. His hair was a mess as he'd most likely not had the time to brush it but at least his pants matched his shirt today.
"Yeah, 'course."
You took a sip of the drink, wincing slightly at the heat on your tongue. He'd remembered you liked your coffee black.
This morning, you had your history course which was conveniently in the building furthest from your shared apartment. Deciding the added three minutes to your walk would mean a warmer outfit for the day, you wore a white button down with fleece tights under your skirt. You had to substitute your usual leather jacket in favor for a heavier coat but still opted to wear the full face of makeup you had on every day. Eyeliner was your saving grace and you swore you'd never be caught outside without it on. You weren't much of a "girly girl," but that beauty product was the one exception.
Your shoes were still a little damp from the snow and the water had melted into the bottom of your bookbag, to your dismay. Your notebook was mostly fine except for the bottom edge, where the pen ink had run together, ruining your script.
"Did you hear about the evaluation today?" Lee asked, with his arm outstretched, offering you one of the Starbucks napkins to dry your notebook.
You hummed in a quizzing tone, signalling you didn't hear about it as you got to work cleaning up the mess before class started. There wasn't much you could do about the few pages that had been destroyed, but thankfully it wasn't the topic you needed at the moment.
"Well," Lee went on assuming you wanted him to continue, "Professor Klotsbach had to officially go on maternity leave so they're giving us someone else for the duration of this year. Apparently they're having this new guy come in today and we get to decide whether we like him or not." Lee said, rustling through his own belongings. "The history majors are saying this is the fifth one this semester."
"Oh? that'll be interesting. I didn't realize she was out already." You stated, throwing the napkins into your coat pocket. At least that meant this class would be easy today and you wouldn't have to worry too much about the notes. You took another sip of your coffee and turned your attention back to the large window to stare at the mountains again. The sun was really starting to come up now, which would hopefully make the walk home warmer. The sunlight shone over the leaves and made its way into the classroom, turning the wood paneling into that comforting auburn color you loved. Even with the weather outside, the inside felt like summer.
You directed your attention back to Lee, who was now back on his phone. You decided you weren't too tired for a conversation.
"I wonder why they're so particular about a professor for a general education course?" You asked, inquiring Lee as though he'd know the ins and outs of how the administration worked. Orpheus was always a semi-prestigious university; you wondered if they did so many evaluations for all the subjects.
"No idea," he said, taking a sip of his own drink, "I guess they wanted insight from other majors as well."
"Ah." You said, thankful that it would at least be some form of deviance from your usual schedule. After this, you and Lee had plans with the rest of your roommates to go to the bistro down the road so you considered today an easy one. A listening lecture followed by a sweet treat was a great morning.
As you were thinking of your plans, the door on the right side of the room finally opened, meaning the professor had officially walked in and class was about to start. Lee put his phone in his pocket although he didn't turn it off, so you assumed he was listening to music. You scavenged in your case for a pencil that wasn't broken and directed your focus to the front of the room, where the evaluated professor would begin.
Your breath hitched in your throat.
This man had to have been about ten years older than you but he was gorgeous. The brown in his eyes and his hair shone under the sun with such elegance; he appeared to be a painting. His brown leather jacket placed stylishly over his buttoned shirt- save for the two at the top- and his dress pants neatly drawn with a belt. An expensive one at that. He looked less like a professor and more like the cover of a teenage romance novel. Even his facial hair was properly trimmed and accentuated the angular curves of his face, which widened into a heartthrobbing smile.
"Hello, I'm Mr. Marcus." He said, turning around and writing it onto the chalkboard with whatever chalk was left in the tray from the class before. He then wiped his hands against each other and stood in front of the desk, leaning against it in an effortless grace as he stared at the class. His eyes scanned the room before they fell on you. It was only for a moment before he looked elsewhere, but you were starstruck and your stomach flipped.
Lee snickered quietly at the face you were making which took you out of your trance. "Dilf season, huh?"
Your cheeks were flushed and your whole body felt hot. It was unlike you to immediately be so caught off-guard. You shook it aside and attributed it to intimidation. That had to be it, you were just nervous of a new professor and at this guy's confident yet inviting demeanor.
"Shut up, Lee." You said with a small smile, so he'd know not to take offense although you were serious. You didn't want to draw any attention to your heart beating wildly in your chest.
As he continued talking, however, the burning in your abdomen only got stronger. There was something to this man, some sense of familiarity that struck you defenseless, although you were unsure as to why. You were certain you'd never seen the man before in your life, yet there was an undeniable pull that rendered you speechless for the rest of the class. He was wonderful at explaining everything in full detail and perfect when it came to answering questions. One thing was for certain though, and that was there'd be no way you could focus on any topic if Mr. Marcus was the professor. Despite how well he performed his job, you just couldn't concentrate. So, when the papers came around at the end of the class for the evaluation, you checked the box stating your disinterest in Mr. Marcus as your professor. How would you be expected to learn in a place where he was the teacher if you were so flustered? All you wanted to do was go home and decompress.
You submitted your paper to the front of the room, Lee in tow. You placed it face down on the desk even though the evaluations were anonymous; you felt awful for the decision you made. How was it fair for him to do everything perfectly and to not be granted the occupation?
As you were about to turn towards the door, you locked eyes with Mr. Marcus. They were a golden honey brown, very similar to the warmth of the room you were in, and they had you entranced. He smiled at you and raised his eyebrows as invitation for conversation, which was when you realized you'd been standing there in front of him with open eyes for longer than you meant to.
"Miss (Y/N), did you enjoy the lecture?" He asked, calm and composed. He must've read your name off the seating arrangement sheet and pieced two and two together.
"Uh, yeah-yes. Yes, I did. I find Rome pretty fascinating." You said, trying to regain your own composure. You smiled back at him in a last effort to appear normal and then walked out of the room and into the large hall where Lee followed close behind.
Alone in the Lecture Hall once all the students had departed, Marcus let out a hitched breath. You must have noticed it too? There was something so off about you and he was immediately drawn to your presence the minute he'd entered the room. It was as if he'd bumped into you before, only this odd feeling of familiarity was far more intense than anything he'd encountered before.
He learned against the desk for support and reached for the evaluation papers. He remembered exactly which one you'd placed down as he counted the number of sheets placed on top. He was unsure as to why he needed this clarification so badly, as if the evaluation was going to be enough insight as to how you truly felt about him.
You'd written that he performed everything perfectly. Checked all the boxes showing the administrators that he'd done as he should. But, at the end of the form, you'd written you didn't want him to have the job.
He smiled to himself, just slightly. He must've been overreacting.
...
It was with disdain that his eyes followed yours, the vituperative look etched into his skin. He appeared no older, even with the worry lines becoming apparent as he frowned; kohl seemingly molded into the flesh of his face with its darkness around his eyes. His tunic adorned with goldened jewelry held his red cloak fastened at his shoulder, which swiftly moved side to side as he walked about the palace floor. With his domineering personality and flamboyant demeanor, one could argue he very much belonged here. But those who truly knew him, such as you, would argue the complete opposite. A child in the body of man, ruling over the Roman Empire with the ability to kill any one of the men who'd built the imperial palace with the flick of his wrist.
And to think, he was your brother.
Emperor Geta manically moved back and forth, his steps echoing in the greatness of the hall where the two of you stood. Your other misfortune of a sibling somewhere entranced by his monkey, you presumed. Even with neither of them being much too intelligent, Geta was definitely the force to be reckoned with. This flurry of anger he felt was often of your own doing and today was no different- although the situation was more dire than previous mishaps.
What was usual sibling banter had turned into something fierce, unforgiving. It seemed as though the two of you no longer stood on the same plane and no words could be spoken to alleviate the tenseness between you two.
"There's a traitor-" He began, voice laced with more anger than anything else now that the shock had subsided. "Someone is helping the Senate to conspire against us. A traitor within the castle?" Geta dramatically flung his fingers over his heart and buried it into the fabric of his dress, steadying himself from falling as if he were intoxicated.
"I've heard nothing of the sort, brother." You let out, hardly above a whisper. It felt wrong for the secret to spill past your lips after all this time of keeping it. Although this had been going on for nearly five months, to speak it aloud even partially breathed it into existence. You, who had no family other than Geta and Caracalla, were plotting the demise of both of them. Rome was a collective and you'd been appointed to preserve the democracy of the people- something your brothers had turned into tyranny under their rule. However, it seemed as though they'd just caught wind of the plot without knowing who was leading the rebellion. Of course, Geta would eventually figure it out but the best thing you could do would be to deny anything that would lead to you or Acacius. He would have his head by morn and yours by the next.
Geta focused his eyes toward the nearest column so as not to look at you, forcing himself to tongue over the idea as it repeated within his head. His ornate laurel wreath crown he wore glistened in the light from above, casting a radiant glow on the floor. He was beautiful, if undeservingly so.
"Geta." You started, still fighting the fear that was always prevalent when conversing with your brother, "You are the emperor. Who would dare conspire against you?" you asked, knowing you had to do damage control. It all felt too real and too sudden for anything to happen just yet, this was unplanned. There was still so much more to be done and now that Geta had heard, Caracalla would be next to be informed- potentially halting the senate from being able to make a proper move. Your brothers would behead them all and force you to watch.
There had to be an informant within the Senate, someone who sided with your brothers in hopes of some grand reward for ratting you out. If they told Geta of the uprising, there's no telling how long it would take until they knew you and Acacius were leading it.
Suddenly, it was as if the color returned to Geta's white painted face. The creases that had formed out of worry now resumed with a smile so horrid and vile that your stomach seemed to drop to your toes with dread. The redhead inched closer to you until he was standing directly before you, inches away from your faltering breath. Smug look upon his face with his hands placed behind his back, he whispered in your ear the one thing you never wanted to hear from him.
"Make sure to relay this message to the Senate. If I hear of any further plans or catch the name of anyone involved within the operation, I will make sure the streets of Rome run red with their excrements."
Your veins turned to ice. It was as if your body had become as still as the marble statues surrounding the two of you. The sunlight hitting your brother's hair was not a warm and comforting light, but the light of a thousand fires ready to destroy anything within its path. You could smell the antimony from his makeup, and it was churning your stomach the longer you stood next to him. And then, he pulled you into a forceful embrace.
"You're my brethren, (Y/N). But bloodshed triumphs over blood. My mercy doesn't spill out of my fingertips such as the weak do. I am to carry on the tree of my lineage and I will do so from the seed of my power. Don't let me ever hear my dear sister has fallen into the conspiracy of the people."
Then he left, and a piece of your soul died with the slam of the door behind him.
...
General Marcus Acacius, still clad in the paludamentum from the evening's dinner, gathered himself after a lengthy conversation with some of his troops. He was fortunate for the day's conquer, but he was entirely ready to return to his chambers to meet with his love; hoping she could soothe the grievances that emanated from his soul. A slight glance into the reflection of the gate showed a man worn down by war. Physically and spiritually he felt beaten and old. His face, which had appeared so bright when he'd first started his efforts, had now succumbed to the weight he felt inside. He was duller than the man he'd always been. A light had been extinguished and would never again be set aflame. His body felt as though it were an empty chamber, hollow with only the sounds of the maternal screaming he heard from war. Mothers calling home their only sons that would stay calling for the remainder of their lives. Praying for the boys who'd become soldiers, fallen under an empire that prided themselves on greatness.
The Romans were cruel murderers. And he did their bidding.
Trying his best to push his stressors aside, he stepped into the small garden flanking the back perimeter of the palace, knowing that was your usual place upon nightfall. The fountain seemed to hum as the water rushed down into the basin. The sounds of bugs chirping filled his ears. The calmness of the fire tamed within the confines of the torches made flickering shadows upon the stones beneath his feet.
And then, there was you. Turning to face him once he'd entered the palace and meeting his gaze. He'd sworn he never understood the meaning of goddess until he'd met you. From the first encounter at the palace, Acacius knew he was in love. Every statue and painting couldn't compare to the beauty that radiated off you, he knew. Your eyes were pools of mystery and your skin softer than the sheets lining the bed you shared, fragile under the callouses of his hands that were worn by the hilt of his sword. You were a delicacy. He thought you were more striking than the sun itself.
The word love would never be enough to describe the power that flowed through his veins upon the mere mention of your name or the gentleness of your kiss.
You were here in your usual palla, the purple dye of the fabric shimmering under the soft glow of the fire. Your face was hardened into a concerned expression and your lips were downturned. What was usually a gleeful expression when your fiancΓ© returned home safely seemed to be just a little short of animosity.
Acacius immediately went to place his hands gently at your sides, pulling you in slightly with a quizzical look, assessing for any physical ailments. "What troubles you, my Lady?"
You wanted to cry, to scream, to let out all your frustrations through vile words such as your brothers did, but you felt so beaten down you couldn't even formulate the words. Acacius had done nothing wrong but be within your proximity. And now your lover would be subjected to the unforgiving wrath of Geta.
"My Lady?" He asked once more, softer this time. He had a rough day, you could tell, and his forehead lines became more apparent as his brows furrowed. His beard was trimmed but not shaven, so as not to flaunt off some of the scars he'd gathered below his nose. He had one on his cheek and one on the back of his hand that you would run your fingers over in an intimate embrace. He was beautiful, even with the years of war embroidered into his skin. He was your heart.
"It's Geta," you finally mustered, holding Acacius's hand to your cheek and letting a tear fall, "he's enlightened to our uprising."
It was the General's turn to express his worry. "How was he informed?" Hs asked, pulling you in for a stiff hug as he was still wearing his breastplate.
"Macrinus must have caught word after last night's gathering. W-we were so careful, I-"
"Shh." Acacius said, slowly rubbing circles into your back, "We'll be okay, we'll find a way." He said this almost so convincingly you wanted to believe it yourself. But you knew Geta would do his best to punish you in every way humanly possible. There would be no escaping.
"We can run away before they find out its us-"
"To where? We both have the faces of those known in Rome, we'll never even make it past the gate without our identities being revealed. And then what? Where will we go that has no promise of being conquered?" He asked, holding onto you as though your arms alone would ground him. "And (Y/N), you know my heart belongs to you and the people. I couldn't leave one in place of the other."
Any form of democracy was going to be dead if your brothers continued to be the ultimate monarchs the were. Their reign had caused nothing but horrors to the people .
"Geta may want my head when he finds out, but he'll never kill you," Acacius said, looking into your eyes, "He'd never kill our kin." At this, his hand dropped to your stomach, caressing the top of it gently.
"You will not die without me." You said, knowing what he would suggest in the hopes of keeping you safe. "I will not allow it."
"And then what? You die and there will be no hope. Not for the people or politics or our son. My work to free us from the grasp of Rome will be for nought."
Your tears started to cascade down your face as quickly as they came, taking your kohl along with it. This was unfair. All of it was unfair. You wanted nothing to do with your brothers or ruling or Rome or anything. All you'd hoped for was to live peacefully in a world without it- how foolish.
"I love you, Acacius. You know this." You said, burying your face into his shoulder. You took in the metallic scent of his breastplate, trying to ease yourself. You knew as a general that he would never leave Rome defenseless.
"As I love you," he said, moving you gently so you were facing each other, "You know what has to be done."
You composed yourself and met his eyes, trying to find solace in them. He felt more like family than the insufferable gingers you shared a bloodline with. And you knew you'd do anything to protect the family you made for yourself, even if that meant sacrificing the birth one.
"We have to kill them." You said. You found the words didn't trouble as much as you thought they might.
They Don't Deserve You.

When you ask your friend to go to prom for fun and they decide to leave you, someone far better and more interesting appears and sweeps you off your feet.
β οΈ Warnings: Swearing β οΈ
(Just a short little drabble!)
The lights and music blaring from the venue hid you from the watchful eyes as you were a complete and utter mess. The sky started to darken allowing for a cover as you tried your hardest not to cry, sniffling from the banister leading into the event. Your shoes were scuffed and your wrist hurt from the once pretty corsage and your makeup felt much too heavy on your face. You had tried so hard to make everything about tonight fun since this year truly hadn't been the best. It's supposed to be the night of the year but of course it just ended the same way your previous ones had; you were alone and unhappy.
Your "date's" words rang through your head as you remembered how blatantly rude they had been to you and your friends. Deciding to up and leave the prom entirely, they had walked in with you for the approval of everyone else and left the minute they didn't have a use for you anymore. It wasn't fair. A part of you didn't blame them though. Why would you have expected them to want to stay?
The doors were announced to be closing from the main entryway which you were standing directly outside of. You needed to feel the wind to calm yourself down after today, so you opted to remain right where you were standing beside the railing and hoping for your date to realize they had made a mistake and come driving back to you.
Of course this didn't happen though, and after a couple more moments you picked up your dress so as not to step on it as you walked back towards the horde of other students in sparkly attire and smiling faces. It was going to be hard to meander back into the rest of society after being out here for so long, but you were sure that after a few drinks later this entire school event will be long forgotten.
"Hey!" You heard from under the stair railing. The entire venue had been elevated due to it being on a hill so there was a blind spot out of sight from the teachers roaming around. Looking behind you, you contemplated walking back to your original spot to scope things out but decided it was probably your imagination. Until you heard the voice again.
"("Y/N")!"
It was louder this time, but still a whisper of sorts. Going back towards the banister, you look down and see the most brilliant head of hair. Bright eyes and a shining smile, your friend Steve Harrington stood below you in a black suit and red button up. He had come with a different girl, but he was alone now. Alone with the most excited look on his face.
"Harrington?" You called and tried your best to hide the fact that you'd been crying. Wiping your face with the back of your hands, you put on the best smile you could possibly muster with the sinking feeling in your stomach.
"You look beautiful." He said, coming up to your level from his secret hiding spot. With him standing this close to you, the height difference was apparent as he stood at 6ft. Well, add a couple inches for the hair.
"Thank you." You said, even though you didn't believe it. If you had looked prettier then maybe you wouldn't have been left outside from the party by yourself.
Steve offers his hand out to you and motions his head towards the road. "Wanna get out of here?" He asks, slipping his other hand into his pants pocket.
Confusion dawning your face, you looked for Steve's date. He couldn't just up and leave her, could he?
"What about-"
"My date?" He began, smiling even wider, "She left with yours."
"Oh." Was all you could say, shocked at the idea of your friend leaving because of someone else. You felt the pain in your chest tighten just a little bit more as jealousy filled you. What wasn't envy was self-doubt. Why had things turned out the way they did? And who on earth would leave Steve Harrington when he looks this goddamn good?
"It's really okay! Fuck them." He laughed, placing his hand in yours. You caught a whiff of his deliciously intoxicating cologne and stared at the rest of his outfit. He looked really nice. Too nice to be by himself tonight. Little did you know, he thought the exact same thing about you.
"You know what? Yeah. Fuck them." You said, wiping the stray tear that fell from your cheek as you took off your shoes and followed Harrington into the night towards his car. Running through the grass, you heard one of Kate Bush's popular songs playing, urging you to run faster. Laughing, you allow yourself to feel free and happy being with someone who didn't take you for granted. The way it should've been.
"They don't deserve you!" Steve called out to you over the music, trying his best to be heard over the intensive bass.
"What?!"
"I said, they don't deserve you!"
And just like that, you and Steve drove away into the night, a whole new flood of possibilities overwhelming you and leaving you with the happiest feeling within the pit of your stomach. You silently thanked that asshole for leaving you since someone far cooler with much bigger hair was able to sweep you off your feet.
Sorry I'm Late, Sweetheart.

When your four friends decide on their plan to defeat Vecna, you're instantly aware of how dangerous this mission will be. It's more difficult than slashing a Demogorgon or hiding from the Mind Flayer and you're unsure whether you'll get out safely. After Nancy is taken, the only thing you can do is lay your life on the line.....and play the most badass rock show the world has ever known.
β οΈ Warnings: swearing, blood and goreβ οΈ
The cold dark air rushed all around the five of you, snagging at your clothes and brushing your hair every which way. The ashen sky fell with literal ash and painted your clothes with the grey color, almost as a warning of how intertwined with the universe you were to be as you continued on with your weapons in hand. Your shoes scuffed up the ground of the once familiar Hawkins and the vines at your feet made it difficult to navigate without the fear of falling or becoming entangled in them. It was a dark day indeed, and everyone knew it. No one had the comfort of knowing they would make it out of this alive and that resonated with the silence that hung in the air and clawed at your skin; your bones becoming heavier and heavier as you trudged on with tears starting to form in your eyes- wondering if this was the last moment the five of you would share.
Your clothes and everyone else's had been tattered with the previous encounter of Demobats: pesky little things that would be the equivalent of a small demon dog. It had bit Eddie and Robin before they had been slashed by Steve and his axe which he had brought along with him in preparation for this fight. Steve had saved you guys many times, tonight wasn't an exception. He looked older now, a stark contrast from when he was the seventeen-year-old you had first met with his cute haircut and bright eyes. Now, he was filled with a sadness that seeped through his skin and wore out his features, his face a permanent expression of exhaustion and worry. Nancy wasn't too far behind, her face had worn itself out as well and bags were starting to form under her eyes. She was worried about the outcome of today and about Jonathan whom's safety she was always unsure of. Robin's lips were formed into a permanent frown and Eddie....Eddie was the most determined one out of all of you. Lines on his face creased with nervousness and fear as to what came next, but his eyes shone with a passion you had never seen in your life. He was ready. Ready to defend himself and his friends.
You slowly progressed up to where Eddie was walking leading the group and slipped your cold hand in his warm one. He didn't turn to look at you for fear that he would burst into tears at the idea of losing you, but he gave your hand a squeeze to which you did back to him. It was a calming gesture of sorts, and you could feel the confidence slowly coming back to you with having him by your side. His Hellfire shirt seemed like a tease at a life you missed so much: one that was filled with friends and mysticism that only existed in board games. You craved to have that sense of normalcy back; a time where you weren't forced to be a hero.
"Everything will be okay." You whispered, enough for him to hear you. His hair swayed softly with the wind and he chewed on his bottom lip.
"In case it isn't," he began, finally turning to you and you could see a single tear falling from his eyes, "I love you."
You felt your heart shatter. You were just a bunch of kids trying to make it in this world. It wasn't fair for your youth to be stripped away.
And suddenly, everything that was slightly calming about the situation completely evaporated the minute you turned around to check on everyone else. Eyes rolled back into her head and feet floating off the ground, Nancy was staring up at the cursed sky with her mouth slightly agape.
"Nancy!" You yelled, catching the attention of everyone else around you. Steve was the first to react by rushing over to Nancy and trying his best to bring her back down to the earth. Robin followed suit and grabbed one of her legs as she continued to ascend into the air. You and Eddie were at a loss for words or action. Steve had looked at you and almost in slow motion, he gave you the look of a panicked boyfriend even though him and Nancy had broken up long ago. He was terrified. And to make matters worse, there was no Walkman in sight.
"Music! What's her favorite song?!" You yelled, turning to Eddie for help only to realize that where he once stood was empty and he was rushing in the opposite direction. "Eddie!"
Eddie screamed out "I'm getting my guitar!"
With his shoes kicking up the strange otherworldly dirt and nearly tripping over seven vines, he ran faster than he ever had towards the trailer park in which him and his uncle lived. It seemed like a millennia ago, waiting for his uncle to come home from work and listen to Ozzy with him on the record player they shared. It was a fond memory, one of the only ones he had of his uncle that he liked to look back on, but he found this memory to be what continued to push him towards his house and to his guitar. Starting to sweat as he dawned the familiar woods that he used to smoke weed and hang out with you in, he threw off his denim jacket and pushed up his sleeves getting closer and closer to his fated destiny.
He threw open the door and practically fell into the trailer, slipping on the carpet that his uncle had insisted on keeping by the door so as not to track mud into his place. If only his uncle could see the mess now.
Eddie could see the portal back to his universe on the ceiling from where Chrissy had been taken. The vines surrounding the hole overgrown and cascading down all sides of the small living room and through to the bedroom and kitchen. They almost seemed to breathe, as if the entire trailer was alive rather than teeming with life. It was definitely a spectacle. The metal head thought to himself for a moment as he contemplated what it would be like to just jump back through the portal and be far away from here. To rid himself of anything Hawkins related and to relocate somewhere where he would never be found. It would be so much easier just to run away, to not have to be the hero everyone counted on him being.
But then he thought to you. And he quickly recollected himself.
Running to the bedroom, he saw his prized possession hanging up in front of his bedroom mirror, the only thing that wasn't touched by the strangeness of the Upside Down. The cheetah print red shine of the body called out to him and gave him a sense of purpose and time. The familiar strings he had played so many times brushed under his fingers and let out the softest hum of music. It was in tune. Just as he had left it.
"Sorry I'm late, sweetheart." He said, thinking back to the same words he had said when Chrissy was in his presence. He would've loved to be friends with her.
He grabbed the guitar and swung it over his shoulder, quickly finding the amps and power cords he had around his room. It was no easy task, but he moved everything to the roof of the trailer where he knew he would be able to play. He never imagined his first gig since leaving Corroded Coffin to be in another dimension, but he was totally digging the vibe. Cords, cords, and more cords were plugged in as he prepared himself to do the only thing he knew best.
Play music.
....
Nancy didn't have much time. The red sky loomed overhead which was a complete contrast from the familiar blue that she had just left. Everything that wasn't touched by the unsettling blood color was black. The vines, the trees, the ground. Victor Creel's house.
The mansion stuck out like a sore thumb amongst all the chaos of floating rubble. Its towers reached the sky, scraping it with its haphazard rooftops and shingles. The attic window was brightly lit while the rest of the house was pitch black, signifying where Vecna committed his acts of violence: terrorizing the town and dooming young teens to their deaths for what, Nancy wasn't certain. She remembers the lifeless corpse of Fred with his eyes sunken in and his limbs bent every which way. His scar was like a warning as it marked his face and his fate.
Nancy did a once-over and made sure she was okay. Her ribs hurt but it was presumably the fall that led to it. Her eyes burned and her veins jolted with the fear she felt in her entire body, matched by the adrenaline of the fight.
Suddenly, a figure loomed to her left as it joined her in staring at the front of the house. She didn't bother to look at it; to let it know that she was frightened. She wanted to put on a brave front. The figure was almost a foot taller than she was and she could feel the vines pushing out of the way for this being to walk. It's hot breath met her ear.
"It was such a lovely house." It said, making itself known. Nancy gulped back some of the fear she felt and allowed her fingers to nervously drum against the sides of her thighs. It was torturous just to be in the presence of Vecna as she knew how it was going to play out if the others didn't save her. Her body joining Fred and Chrissy, six feet under with a torso so bent out of shape they would have to create a custom coffin. The very thought chilled her to the bone.
"Why are you doing this?" She asked, sounding more scared than she meant to.
Vecna turned to look at her and moved towards the front of the stairs, backing her into a corner. It was such an odd juxtaposition; an evil entity with all the power in the world being so calm towards her, as if this wasn't her death he was about to bring onto her.
"I will end all your suffering." He said, slowly lifting up his arm which was adorned with long claws attached to even longer fingers, moving to touch her face ever so gently but piercing into her skin. She closed her eyes and thought back to the night she was at Jonathan's house.
The alphabet was horribly drawn into the yellowing wallpaper, Christmas lights surrounding the entirety of the house and illuminating the living room and writing. The lights were going off one by one as Will tried to contact them, using the letters to form short words and sentences. Steve had been there too, a bat with nails in it and a black eye from his fight with Jonathan. The two boys looked at each other and then at her as they awaited what was to happen next. Nancy held the weight of a gun in her hands.
When the wall broke in and a Demogorgon appeared, it had been Steve that had acted first. With his bat in hand and baseball stance, he had struck the demon over and over again, watching it bleed out into the ground from whence it came. Even then, he continued to strike the beast over and over just in an attempt to protect Nancy.
He had saved her then, and he would save her now. Nancy was sure of it.
"It's the final countdown."
All of a sudden, her thoughts were interrupted by a song that was so familiar and overplayed she wanted to laugh at the ridiculousness and throw up with the fear at the same time. Her mouth contorted into something of a smile as Vecna released his grip on her skull, forcing Nancy to the ground as she looked towards the red sky that was now blue towards the far right of the house.
Turning back on the ground and taking one last glance at Vecna, she locked eyes with the creature that looked more angry than anything else.
"Fuck you." She said, and started running towards the blue light.
The ground felt like water as she tried to run the fastest she could away from Vecna. The floating debris of the house started raining down on her, trying to stray her from her path. One from the right and then one from the left, sending her onto the ground only for her to get right back up again and run even faster than before.
"We're heading for Venus..."
Nancy followed the song and followed the light, losing her slip on shoes in the process. Barefoot, she raced towards the end of this nightmarish hell, bracing herself for impact if she were to fall again. Catching a quick glimpse from behind her, she saw the beast wasn't too far behind.
"And still we stand tall..."
The silly tune guided her to the end of the light where she finally made out of the red portal and back into her body. Feeling a surge of motion sickness, she felt herself fill her body once again, feeling like the little pills with sponge dinosaurs once they hit water.
Dropping from the sky, she fell back into the arms of Steve, who was ready to catch her from the beginning. He held her closely, brushing stray strands of hair from her face and taking in her frazzled state. She was covered in dirt and there were scratches on the sides of her face that he swore hadn't been there before.
"Cause maybe they've seen us...and welcome us all, yeah..."
Eddie's music blared on from the woods, louder than anything they've ever heard. The Demobats started to fill the sky in search of the sound, rushing through the sky and towards the trees. You stood frozen in place as you watched them head towards your boyfriend. Looking towards Robin, she gave you a smile and tilted her head in Eddie's direction.
"Go save him." She said with absolute certainty and you felt yourself running towards your boyfriend before she even finished getting the words out. Your shoes made heavy stomping noises as you ran faster than you ever had in your life in hopes of making it in time to warn Eddie and beat the swarm together.
As you neared the woods, you saw his jacket lying on the ground and you picked it up, throwing it over your shoulders and running up to his residence, seeing him shredding his guitar and head banging like you had so many times when seeing him play for Corroded Coffin.
"Eddie!" You screamed, jumping up the ladder and racing to his side. He was so lost in the song, he didn't even notice you had joined him up on the roof until you grabbed one of the other guitars he had brought up there.
"Hey! What are you planning on doing with that?!" He asked over the music.
"Oh shut up! You have another one at home!" You said, preparing the guitar like a bat.
"You're such a badass!" He said as he finally gave you a smile since getting mixed up in the affairs of the Upside Down. The Final Countdown ended and Eddie took a look at his guitar, his most precious thing in the universe after you, of course. Giving a swift kiss to the body, he held it out in front of him and mumbled an "I love you" before he readied it like a baseball bat, same as you.
"Here they come!" You said, watching the Demobats fill the night sky and coming rushing down towards the two of you.
"This is the most heavy metal thing I've ever done!" Eddie yelled and then the two of you started beating the bats with the guitars, throwing them down onto the ground and the roof as you hit them over and over and stabbed them with the broken pieces. Eddie dropped his guitar and bit off the head of one, watching the blood spurt out onto the equipment that was now useless. You crushed one of the bats in between two of the amps and watched the blood spurt out and fly everywhere, coating your clothes in it. It would be a miracle if Eddie would be able to wear his Hellfire Club shirt again after this. Just then, two more bats came your way at full speed.
Eddie moved in towards you after finishing with his bat and pushed you off the trailer, holding you in his arms to stop the fall. He watched the bats get confused and continue to fly forwards in search of you as he pulled you up off the ground and rushed you into his house.
Locking the door and barricading it with everything in his sight, you both sat on the ground next to the couch to keep out of sight from the windows and to catch your breaths. Everything happened so fast, it was surprising that you two had made it out of that situation alive. Looking at your boyfriend you saw a couple cuts along his face and arms and you grazed his skin gently.
"Eddie. I saw you bit the head off a bat. You totally had your Ozzy Osbourne moment." You said, giggling slightly.
"(Y/N). That was singlehandedly the coolest moment of my life." He said.
The two of you made out on the floor of course.
β彑 YEONJUN [ μ°μ€ ]
once you decided to drop by their dorm and leave some food but in the middle of that your hoodie got stained
so you stole one of your boyfriendβs and honestly forgot about it, while he thought he lost it :(
but one day when yeonjun was waiting for you to change so you two can go for a walk, you wore it and didnβt think much about it
his brows furrowed when he saw it⦠like⦠"wait a minute⦠is that MY hoodie?"
dramatic. pouts. crosses his arms. turns his head.
but just you try taking it offβ¦ heβll get ever MORE poutier >:(
holds the rims of the hoodie and pulls it down so you canβt take it off and pulls the hood over your head
"cute" he mumbles as he holds your chin gently and leans closer to place a tender kiss on your lips
literally canβt stop smiling whenever he sees you wearing his clothes, it makes him feel proud (aaand a tiiiny biiit possessive) + hello, you look adorable?!
sometimes he gives you his hoodies "just because"β¦ well, so he can adore you in them<3
β彑 SOOBIN [ μλΉ ]
it was a rough night for you two
odi was acting strange in the middle of the night so while soobin watched him, you searched for the vet clinic that was open at night
after driving to one, getting odi checked (and finding out that he was alright), getting back - it was nearly 5am and you just wanted to sleep
so you quickly changed and threw a random shirt on yourself. then you plopped onto the bed (and soobin) and quickly fell asleep
in the morning, you went to brush your teeth. the tiredness was still showing after you almost brushed your teeth with his toothbrush and couldnβt manage to open the toothpaste, cursing underneath your breath
soobin woke up and entered the bathroom, rubbing his eyes
he looked at you, washing your teeth with your eyes closed and⦠his t-shirt.
boom. that was the sound of his heart exploding from the cuteness that overwhelmed him.
he was too busy staring at you, looking beyond adorable in his oversized t-shirt to notice that his cheeks were painted pink
"what?" you asked
shy, shy, shy baby <3
refuses to tell you but sooner or later you discover that wearing his t-shirts leaves him flustered
i mean come on, heβs so tall youβre literally drowning in his clothesβ¦ and he loves it, a bit too much
β彑 BEOMGYU [ λ²κ· ]
baking with gyu is⦠chaotic, to say at least
heβs a bit clumsy, energetic and teases you a lot
so when you are covered in flour, egg yolk and icing at the end of the day, youβre not even surprised
unfortunately though you didnβt take any clothes just in case something like this happens
"uhβ¦ gyu, can i borrow some sweatpants? this isnβt coming offβ¦" you sighed, pointing at the stains
he flew rushed to his bedroom to pick the best cleanest pieces of clothing he had and gave it to you with a boyish grin on his face
once you changed, his mouth fell ajar.
heβs whipped and heβs not even hiding it!!!!
absolutely in love.
(even though it looks like youβre drowning in the clothes and youβre tripping because of the pants being too long for your legs smh)
since then sneaks his clothes over to your place so you can have themβ¦ in case you miss him or somethingβ¦
i mean, hey! they are comfortable! and smell like himβ¦
β彑 TAEHYUN [ νν ]
when taehyun texted you to bring his hoodie to the practice because he forgot, you didnβt think much about it and put it on
because why should you hold it, literallyβ¦ smhππ
so you entered their practice room in the middle of their dance routine
and as soon as taehyun saw you, he tripped
he literally fell for you<3
they started laughing but you came up to him, worried expression painted on your face as his cheeks reddened
not only he tripped but also you looked so adorable in his hoodie that he had to take a moment to gather his thoughts
"you alright?" you asked, squatting next to him
he just nodded and looked at you with the biggest smile ever
"i brought your hoodie! i hope you donβt mind i wore it thoughβ¦" you said and reached to take it off but he stopped you, shaking his head
"you can keep it for now" he just mumbled and placed a quick kiss on your forehead before standing up
he kept his eyes on you for the whole practice
and even after it he was way more clingier than usual!!
to sum up: recipe for clingy taehyun? you wearing his clothes <3
β彑 HUENING KAI [ ν΄λμΉ΄μ΄ ]
of course it was a chilly night
and of course you didnβt listen to kai who said that you should bring your coat
but for your defence β¦ it looked like it was warm outsideβ¦
but you left the house without bringing your coat with you and enjoyed the date with kai
on your way home it got chilly and you started to shiver, trying your best to hide it
but hyuka saw it and wasted no time in putting his coat on you
when you just blushed and mumbled a quick thank you, looking beyond adorable in his coat that was too long for youβ¦
his heart was pounding against his chest with so much force that the poor boy thought it was gonna jump out and tum away!!
loves how you look in it + the clothes smell like you when you give them back
please just wear his clothes, heβll melt on spot <3

Coffee?
HENDERY X READER
The cute guy you met at a coffee shop offers to pay for your drink....and your attention.
The autumn breeze stung your face as you pulled your knit scarf closer to your mouth to trap in the warmth of your breath. The leaves made crunching noises as your feet collided with the ground, picking up the wet ones with the soles of your shoes as you walked. Your plaid knit skirt and black shirt weren't any combat against the cold, even with your beige trenchcoat wrapped around you like a blanket. Thankfully, the familiar aroma of your coffee shoppe filled your senses as you got closer and closer to the warmth inside of the building.
With a resounding bell from the top of the door, you made your entrance known with the gust of wind that came with it. Sighing in contempt as you noticed the shoppe was almost entirely empty, you made your way to the counter and removed the scarf from your face to give your order. Your best friend, Doyoung was working the night shift for today and he had complained about how bored he would be since no one would come in. He also complained about being too physically and emotionally exhausted the next day at classes.
"(Y/N)!" He said, placing his fingers on the counter and tapping them in a drumming motion against the slab surface, "What can I getcha?"
You smiled. "The usual."
You watched as he went to busy himself in the back, struggling to get the cups from the top shelf by the sinks. Of course you had ordered a cold drink in cold weather, just when they had put away all the summer cups.
Looking around, you noticed that the couple at the table in the back just made their exit out the front door of the shoppe; the bell ringing once more overhead. They walked towards the edge of the street and waited for the traffic to pass before walking off into the dark distance ahead. Turning back to the counter, you place a two dollar tip in the tip jar and busy yourself with organizing the complementary straws by color.
"What's wrong with the way they were before?"
A deep sounding voice came from behind and startled you slightly. The man who had entered extremely quietly was tall and thin with sharp, angular features that any model or movie star would kill for. He had box dye black hair and earrings that ran all the way up his ears and a nose ring to match. Clad in a black cashmere sweater and dark jeans, he was very beautiful and oh so very close to where you were standing.
"Oh! Uhm, well they seemed to be a bit out of order. The orange ones go in the back and the green in the front." Blushing, you occupy yourself with staring in any direction that he was not in.
He giggled. "Why's that?"
"Well no one would voluntarily go for the orange ones first." You said in retaliation to which he found the funniest statement ever. A couple awkward seconds pass and Doyoung returns with your iced caramel latte in one hand and a napkin in the other. Placing them down in front of you he checks the guy out behind you and you give him a knowing glance.
"Anything else?" He asked you as you fumbled around for your credit card. Suddenly, a hand stops you from behind and a card is handed over to Doyoung before you could seemingly blink.
"I'll get one of those too, please." The man says with a smirk as he pays for the both of your drinks.
"Why, thank you." You walk over to the nearest table and sit down while you watched Doyoung finish processing the stranger's card. Noticing you forgot a straw, you see the man grab two of them- two of the orange ones.
He sits down across from you and the light refracts off of the biggest earring on the right of his ear. His eyes find their way to yours as he smiles once more and hands you an orange straw.
"I figured that we could switch it up a bit and use the ugly straws." He states, holding his hands up in a fake surrender.
You were completely hooked on his persona now, and you knew that all attempt at forgetting him would be futile. He was just too goddamn pretty and too goddamn charismatic.
"I guess I'll let it slide since you did pay for my coffee." You said teasingly, as you worked on removing your hair from the braid it was pulled back in. Your bracelets jangled as your arms moved up to touch the delicately woven hair atop your head and you shook it out back to its full and natural state.
"Garnier?" He asks, stabbing the whipped topping with the straw and taking a long gulp of the gooey coffee tasting goodness. For a split second, you caught a flash of silver on his tongue before his mouth clamped down around the plastic.
"Garnier?" You asked, wondering what he could be referring to.
He smiled once more. "Your hair dye. It's a similar black to mine."
Damn, this boy was good. You nodded and let out a breathy laugh as you remembered the green box you'd picked out last week. The dye was the best for making sure the college dorm bathroom wasn't disgusting by the time you were done. Ryujin would have your head if she saw the caulking of the tiles stained black.
"Yes, it is," you said, watching the drinks disappear between the two of you, "How did you know that?"
He put down his cup and let out a soft exhale as he clapped his hands together in a cute way, watching you from across the table. "So glad you asked! I'm a hairdresser!"
"A hairdresser?" You asked with a blush starting to creep up onto your cheeks. That was cute. The thought of this stranger being paid to run his hands through your hair made your stomach ignite with butterflies.
"Yes!" He said, taking another sip of his coffee. It was just then that you asked him for his name, remembering that you didn't get one upon his first entrance.
"Hendery," He said with a mouth full of cream, "but you can just call me H."
"H? Why H?" You asked.
"Because it sounds edgier that way." He leans back in his booth and puts his arms up against the padding of the seat, trying to look cool and ridiculous at the same time. It looked much more like the latter to you, though.
"You're kidding?"
"Oh, 100%. That would be stupid."
His teeth flashed in your direction once more and you saw the tongue piercing that had been hidden from view. "What's your name?" He asks with a kind tone. He seemed to stop the entire world and focused solely on you. Time seemed to have stopped.
"(Y/N)." You said, intently gazing at his eyes.
"(Y/N)." He repeated, taking your name in like the drag of a cigarette. The word seemed to rest on his tongue like the piercing and then swallow down into the very fiber of his being. It was like a fish on a hook and damn, did he fall for you hook, line, and sinker.
The shared laughter between the two of you filled the entirety of the coffee Shoppe, and Doyoung eventually joined the both of you. He had whipped himself up a hot cocoa and you eyed the amount of whipped cream he had put on the top; sprinkles starting to melt into odd colors and the drink running down the sides of the cup onto the saucer. He totally had a whipped cream mustache above his upper lip and to say that he was enjoying the drink would be an understatement.
Eventually, Hendery had ordered one too and the secret came out that he really didn't like coffee, he had just come in to escape the cold and decided to stay for you. It was sweet and romantic and your heart filled with excitement as adrenaline coursed through your veins. This stranger was so enticing, yet so familiar. He couldn't have been a stranger anymore, however, he had introduced himself.
"Allow me to walk you home?" He motioned for the door as you threw away your cups. You looked back towards Doyoung and saw him motioning a blowjob with his hand in the air. Flipping him off silently, you agree and follow Hendery into the cold night air. It hasn't gotten any warmer, much to your dismay. The skirt seemed entirely ridiculous now as you grasped to hold onto any warmth.
"Hey, Hendery?" You asked, stopping along the sidewalk and looking up at the tall dark haired man. He smiled down on you with his teeth in a dorky manner and pushed away the hair from his eyes.
"Ye-es?" He said, glancing up at the streetlight that shone overhead. It was like a spotlight at a theatre and you were Romeo and Juliet. Just without the death and stuff.
"I-I think I'd like to do this again sometime." You said, reaching for his hand. Taking it from you, he spins you around and you turn in surprise, falling into his chest upon doing a 360.
"I'd like that too." His warm and minty breath fanned over your face and you knew you were done for.
"May I kiss you?"
"Why certainly."
With his lips against yours, you finally understood what people meant when they said they felt fireworks go off in their brains. It was safe and happy between the two of you as you leaned into each other, taking in one another's company. This whole scene was like something out of a movie and you thought back to the time you convinced yourself it wouldn't be possible for love at first sight.
Pulling away, Hendery rested his head against yours. "You taste like coffee." He says, leaning in for another kiss.
"I thought you said you didn't care for coffee?" You asked.
"I very much care for it now."
