You yawned as the team loaded onto the bus. Leaving at night resulted in you feeling tired and sleepy. Rubbing your eyes, you stuffed your hands in your jacket. You heard Daichi going on about how you weren’t allowed to stand or walk when the bus was moving and all that boring stuff. You were ready to just get on the bus and pass out.
Your droopy eyes perked up at the sight of green hair and freckles. You felt a slight surge of awake-ness. Maybe it’s bcause you were sleepy and weren’t thinking straight but the thought of sleeping on Yamaguchi’s shoulder sounded really nice now. So, leaving your spot standing next to your childhood friend, Ennoshita, you marched on over to Yamaguchi.
A tap on his shoulder got his attention as you smiled at him, “Hey” you greeted. His cheeks flushed red at the sight of you but went unnoticed under the cover of the dark night/ early morning. He stammered, “Hi, do you need something?”
“Wanna sit beside me?” you offered. His shouders slumped slightly before he replied, “Ah sorry but um, I’m sitting with Tsukki” he said as he rubbed the back of his neck.
“Oh okay” you mumbled dejectedly, “just thought I’d ask”
You walked back to Ennoshita, telling him what happened and sitting with him on the bus. He comforted you through snickers, hearing about the pathetic rejection you went though. You hit him on the shoulder and pouted in your seat but you were honestly glad he was there to cheer you up. You were so caught up in giggles that you didn’t notice the jealous gaze of a certain green-haired freckled boy.
He huffed in annoyance seeing how much you laughed with Ennoshita. He crossed his arms at the thought that he missed the chance for that to be him. He wanted you to laugh at his jokes. Tsukishima noticed and spoke up, “Why didn’t you just sit with her? She asked you didn’t she?”
“Yeah but I said I was sitting with you” he admitted
“Well that was a mistake. I can survive without you, y’know?” he sighed at his friend’s dependency, “Well, it’s your problem. Look, it seems like they’re getting pretty cozy with each other” he motioned to you and your seatmate as he put on his headphones and closed his eyes
Yamaguchi’s head snapped to look at you. You were leaning on Ennoshita’s shoulder, hugging his arm as you two dozed off. His blood boiled as his eyes looked away. He crossed his arms and shut his eyes, not wanting to see you with someone else.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You yawned as Ennoshita shook you awake, you whining and not wanting to move. You reluctantly unlatched yourself from his arm and he pulled you up to walk with him out of the bus. You said your greetings and thanks to the other teams for inviting Karasuno’s volleyball team to the camp.
You weren’t a part of the team. Most people assume you’re a manager with how much time you spend there but you aren’t. Shimizu said you might as well join but you were already part of the calligraphy club so you kindly refused. You spent your free time helping the team and even went to Karasuno to follow your childhood friend. Ennoshita and other friends and family said you could go to a better school but you wanted to follow him, seeing how close you were they let you do whatever you want. And yes you were very smart and had high grades so you could do anything you want.
You followed the team as they showed you where you would sleep and do this and that. You could feel someone’s stare burning the back of your head as you walked alongside your best friend but considering how Yamamoto reacted to girl you assumed it was him or someone else from another team.
What you didn’t notice was how Yamaguchi was planning to get your attention so he could get any amount of alone time with you. He told Tsukishima what he wanted to do but he just didn’t care as usual. That didn’t stop Yamaguchi from wanting to talk to you, preferably confess before Ennoshita tries anything.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
His first attempt was after the group’s first penalty. After jogging up the hill you and the other managers were handing out water bottles. He wanted you to give him his but Shimizu was the one to do it. Others would be very pleased to be handed water by Shimizu (like Tanaka and Nishinoya) but he was somewhat disappointed. Ennoshita was on the other side of where the team was standing, you making light chatter with him while he cooled off. You even wiped his forehead from sweat with a small towel, scolding him for something he couldn’t care less about. He pouted as you didn’t even take notice of anything he did, not that he did much but he was still upset.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The second attempt was when It was your turn serving dinner. He blushed at how cute you looked serving the other hungry boys, them jokingly asking for a bigger portion and you complying cheerfully. You even made cookies and gave it to some who begged for it. Even if you said they should eat healthy while training, you agreed to a small treat after dinner. Giggling, you got to Yamaguchi’s seat and gave him his meal.
He only realized he was still staring when you brushed nothing off your apron asking, “What? Is there something on my clothes?” you asked, looking from your collar to the hem of of the apron. He turned red from embarrassment and shook his head, “No!” he squeaked.
He hoped you would make small talk with him but you just nodded and walked off the serve someone else. He was overcome with what you would jokingly call ‘Much sad’. He chuckled at the memory of you telling Daichi that that was what you had when he asked what was wrong, before going back to sulking.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The third attempt was when he did extra training. It was night and Ennoshita stayed behind too, of course, and you were with him. Yamaguchi stood next to Ennoshita in hopes that you’ll notice him as they both practiced serves. He was still trying to master a jump float serve and wanted you to be impressed if when he did it correctly.
He threw the ball into the air and hit it with his palm. His determination faltered slightly when he realized he didn’t hit the ball hard enough. It went lower than expected and got caught in the net, before falling to the floor. He felt even more down when he saw a ball swiftly go above the net and hit the the wooden floor on the other side. Then, he heard cheers from a voice that made his heart leap, except the cheers weren’t for him
“Ennoshita nice serve!” you flailed your hands in the air while jumping. Ennoshita thanked you shyly as Yamaguchi sighed. Maybe he should stop trying to get your attention. It wasn’t working anyway.
Defeated, he trudged back to where the team was staying for the week. Little did he know, you saw him looking discouraged and wanted nothing more than to ask him what’s wrong. I mean, the only reason you hung around Ennoshita so much recently is so that you could see Yamaguchi a lot more too, forcing him to pracitce serves with him so you could watch.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The rest of the week you noticed that Yamaguchi didn’t talk to you anymore. He didn’t even interact at all. Every time you were handing out water bottles, he would get one from the girl farthest from you and walk the other way.
By the time the training camp was over he had been avoiding you without noticing. This time it was your turn to feel dejected. You didn’t know why he was acting like that. You were literally clueless.
So what did you do? You forced Ennoshita to go find out. Hiding behind him, you look over his shoulder seeing Yamaguchi talking with Tsukishima. You watched as the taller blonde walked away, leaving his friend to help pthe managers pack. Ennoshita has been whispering to you, asking what he should do and getting frustrated at your lack of response. You shushed him as you waited for a moment when it would seem natural for Ennoshita to approach him.
“What are you doing?” A voice came from behind you
You yelped and jumped away, releasing your grip from your best friend’s shoulders. “N-nothing!”
“Uhuh...” he mumbled, “Y’know, you don’t have to be this sneaky. He regretted not sitting beside you and you didn’t notice him trying to catch your attention, it’s that simple, and stupid” he mumbled the last part loud enough for you to hear.
Ennoshita cheered and pushed you off his back, “Yay I don’t have to fix your problem anymore” he clapped his hands and put on a sickly sweet smile. You scoffed at him playfully and told him he could leave. He went to the already walking away Tsukishima wanting to pick on him, suggesting they sit together seeing as he knew what you were gonna do next.
And you knew it too. You took a deep breath and let it go, shaking the nerves away from your hands. You approached him slowly, him not noticing until your footsteps were near enough. His head turned to you in time for you to meet his eyes, a red tint staining both your faces.
“So, hey, I was-”
“Do you think we can-”
You both chuckled awkwardly. Speaking at the same time? Such a cliche.
“You go first” you offered
He nodded and finished his sentence, “Do you think we can sit next to each other?”
A giggle came from your lips and made him blush harder, “I was gonna ask the same thing”
“O-Oh! Well then I um,” he threw the last bag in with the others, “I’m all done” he said with a shaky smile
You smiled back and held your hand out, “Now, shall we?” you asked in the same way someone would ask a girl to dance. He, in an embarrassed manner, took your hand and you led him to the bus.
You both got seats near the back, Ennoshita and Tsukishima in across the seats behind you. You and Yamaguchi chatted and laughed. Everyone noticing the shy pinch server with his crush. Tanaka and Nishinoya desperately wanted to tease you two but rethinked when they saw Daichi’s deadly glare on them.
Eventually you yawned and rested your head on his shoulder, fully aware of what you were doing and going far enough to place your hand on his thigh. You felt his body heat increase and felt his trembling. His confidence did come back though, after you grabbed his sweaty hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. He then rested his head on yours, closing his eyes in attempt to ignore all the eyes staring at them. You both dozed off quickly after, subconsciously cuddling closer in your sleep.
~Bonus ending~
Tanaka and Nishinoya were snapping pictures, holding back from guffawing and teasing. Sugawara was holding Dachi back from walking in a moving bus, the latter whisper-yelling commands to stay quiet. Hinata was thrilled for Yamaguchi, commenting on how he wants a girl to do that with him, followed by Kageyama’s retort that he’ll never get a girlfriend. The coach and advisor were snickering at the groups antics.
“Isn’t it cute” said Ennoshita, pulling Tsukishima from his focus on the trees outside.
Tsukishima grimaced at the sight, “Disgusting”
a scenario where bakugou ends up having a kid at 17 or smth and decides he doesn't want the baby so he breaks up w/ his gf and they meet again in 10 years and bakugous a prohero and his ex is doing her thing maybe?? sorry thats super long qwq
Of course! This one will be a lil angsty so be prepared. Sorry for such a long wait!
You sat in his room, ready to give the big news. While you preferred to have the whole class here to celebrate the wonderful occasion you knew how much your boyfriend hated big events.
Instead you opted for a more closed off area to tell Katsuki of his future child, of course it was far from planned but after talking to his best friend Kirishima, the two of you decided now was the time to tell him.
“Good luck (s/o), tell me how it goes!” Kirishima said with a big grin before leaving you and your rising nerves alone in the room.
Everything would be fine right? You knew it wasn’t planned but you weren’t upset, you had your future child inside you how could you not be happy. He would be happy… right?
A loud bang of the door blew your thoughts away as your eyes shot up to the door to see your sweating boyfriend, he must’ve been training.
“Bakugou! How was your training?” You asked with a smile offering him a water which he snatched from you gratefully.
“Intense. But I kicked everyone’s ass so it doesn’t matter.” Bakugou hissed before taking a long gulp of his water, looking you up and down.
Something was up.
“Why the fuck are you here anyway? I thought you go out with your friends on Friday’s.” Bakugou questioned, using his shirt to wipe the sweat from his forehead.
Taking a gulp of your own saliva you inhaled before smiling, “Well.. I had some exciting news to tell you so I skipped girls night.”
“Wow you skipped a night of shopping to tell me something? This ought to be fucking good.”
You laughed sheepishly before standing up straighter, the white piece of plastic you were hiding behind you holding the big news you were about to tell.
“Well.. we’ve been together for a long time and while this wasn’t planned-”
“What the fuck are you hiding behind your back?” Bakugou questioned, his crimson eyes narrowing to you suspiciously.
“I’m going to get to that just one second.” You said, your eye twitching in annoyance every time he interrupted.
“Oh for fucks sake what is it?” Bakugou growled, storming over to you as he shoved your arm to him and ripped the object from your grasp.
Your eyes widened at the sudden movement, giving you no time to explain so you just went for it. “I’m pregnant!”
Bakugou just looked down to the pregnancy test, his face showing no emotion. You blinked at his blank response, putting your hand on his shoulder with a big grin.
“Katsuki don’t you get it! I’m pregnant with your baby! We’re going to have a family.” You said with a joyful smile, assuming he just didn’t understand what you were showing him.
“Are you fucking serious?”
Your smile fell for a second hearing his bitter tone of voice, was he… mad?
“You know I’ve been working to be a hero for all my life and you get pregnant?” Bakugou hissed, his red eyes now glaring to you.
You felt as if you had been punched in the gut, all air seeming to come out of your lungs, “O..Of course it wasn’t planned but…”
“Obviously fucking not! You couldn’t remember to take your birth control pills (s/o) really? You didn’t care that much that you ruined my dream with this!” Bakugou growled, throwing the pregnancy test across the room, the plastic slamming against the wall causing you to flinch.
“K..Katsuki… I thought you would be happy!” You cried back, tears beginning to stream down your face as your arms began to shake.
This couldn’t be happening.
Bakugou laughed bitterly as he ran his fingers through his hair a fumbled mess, “Happy? Really (s/o) you thought ruining my career would make me fucking happy?”
You hadn’t noticed how your breathing had begun to grow deep and heavy, as if your lungs were to collapse at any moment. How could he say this to you? He was blaming you for ruining his life?
“After all we’ve been through Bakugou, are you serious?” You questioned, tears streaming down your face as you grabbed his hand in one final act to snap him out of this trance he seemed to be in.
“I think you should go.” Bakugou hissed, snatching his arm out of your grasp.
Your (e/c) eyes widened in horror at his words, three years of being together and all she needed to do was have their kid to tear it all apart.
“Fine.” You whispered, grabbing your bag as you stormed to the door, warm angry tears strolling down your face, “Sorry I ruined your fucking life Katsuki, I’ll just get out of it forever so you don’t have to worry about it.” You hissed coldly shooting him a final glare before slamming the door behind you.
The ash blond just stared at the door feeling warm tears threaten to spill from his own eyes, fists clenched.
“Damn it!”
Six Years Later
“So how’s it going at your hotshot agency Bakugou? Being in the center of Japan must be chaotic.”
Bakugou let out an exhausted sigh as him and his three former classmates walked around the city park. He had seen Kirishima, Kaminari, and Sero on the news plenty of times since they were all pro heroes at the same agency but never in person since he had been signed with the number one agency in the world.
“Yeah I bet it feels to finally live up to your name, Number One Hero in the world!” Kirishima said with a grin elbowing the ash blond.
Even though he had a better control of his temper than he did as a kid, this didn’t stop Bakugou from rolling his eyes and glaring to his friend.
“It’s going fine, you shouldn’t be so fucking surprised that I’m the number one hero.”
“We’re just messing with you bro, it’s just been so long since we’ve seen you.” Sero said, running his hands through his black hair.
Bakugou nodded rubbing his own pale cheeks as they walked down the smooth sidewalk, “Yeah I was pretty shocked when my agency gave me a break, I’ve been working so damn much it feels weird to be off my schedule.”
“Well we’re glad you’re back Bakubro, the rest of the class is down here too we should grab dinner together or something.” Kirishima said, the boys nodding in agreement.
The ash blond remained quiet as the boys explained how their life had been the past few years, reflecting on how his life was.
He had it all. Dream job, plenty of money, tons of fans, even the title he had been dreaming of his own life: Number One Hero in the world.
But something in him always felt empty, digging at his skin every night and he just hated it. While he understood he had never truly been in touch with his feelings, still he couldn’t pin point what it was. And since he was too prideful to ever admit this insecurity, he kept letting it eat at his soul ever since it began.
It was beginning to drive him insane.
“Well look what we have here boys.” Kaminari said in a mischievous tone, catching Bakugou’s attention as he looked over to what he was talking about.
A group of women doing what Bakugou assumed was yoga in the middle of the park, each of them doing a weird pose on colorful mats.
“What do you say we hit them with some of our charm and good looks? Just like the good old days.” Kaminari said with a grin, Bakugou just rolling his eyes.
“Oh come on bro, they’re totally digging us! Look at them giggling like a bunch of school girls. We are famous y’know.” Sero said with a grin, the ash blond did take notice that a few of them were staring and pointing at the four boys.
“Maybe we could invite them to dinner with us tonight! I can’t wait to see Mina’s face when she sees me with a lady.” Kirishima said wiggling his eyebrows.
“Dibs on the blond one!” Kaminari shouted, causing a sharp whine to escape Sero’s lips as the three darted over to the group pushing and shoving.
Bakugou pinched the bridge of his nose and huffed at his former classmates, “Idiots.”
The last thing he wanted to do was walk into a group of fan girls who were going to act like little puppies begging for attention, he had to deal with that enough at work.
Instead he decided to go to a drink stand and buy a water, he was going to be here all day after all since his friends were terrible at flirting. He wasn’t about to fry in the sun without some sort of refreshment.
Walking back to a tree to sit under he uncapped the lid and brought it to his lips taking a long sip until something quick bumped into him causing him to spill the cold drink all over his shirt and whoever had just run into him.
“Oi what the hell was that? Watch where you’re fucking goi…” Bakugou’s words froze when he saw the familiar eyes looking up to him furiously.
“Did you not see me running across the field you complete… B..Bakugou?” Your angry words came to a stop when you saw those crimson eyes looking back down to you.
Bakugou couldn’t find words, instead he let his eyes do the work. While most of your features stayed the same, you were still very different. Your (s/c) face grew more mature and you were at least to the height of his nose now compared to your short form before. Your (h/c) was tied up into a neat ponytail and you wore just a sports bra and leggings, you must have been doing yoga with the group of women.
“Wow (s/o).” Bakugou muttered, coughing a bit as he quickly put the lid back on his water, “It’s been a long time huh?”
You inhaled blinking for a second before nodding slowly, still not processing what was happening. “Yeah I guess it has.. you look good.”
“Yeah yeah, you do too. Are you a pro hero now or-”“I went into law, it was easier on me than my previous passion.” You cut him off with a grim expression, his guilty eyes shooting to the ground showed that he knew exactly what you meant.
“Oh wow, that’s still cool.” Bakugou responded shortly, so many different emotions flowing through his mind at once, but he wasn’t prepared for the next events that were about to unfold.
“Mommy! Mommy! You’re finished!” A small feminine voice squeaked, followed by a little girl running to you as you smiled arms wide.
Bakugou’s crimson eyes were opened wide, is throat suddenly dry. He felt as if he had sucker punched in the gut and he couldn’t breath.
The girl had her mother’s face without a doubt but her ash blond hair and bright crimson eyes pierced into his own, for a second he thought he had seen himself.
“Katsumi, my love.” You said in a warm tone as you lifted up the small girl in your arms and planted a kiss on her cheek.
Bakugou’s chest squeezed again, as if someone punched him again multiple times in the gut, “K…Katsumi?”
She named her… after him?
“Oh right, this is our… my daughter Katsumi.” You mumbled, forcing a smile as the small girl looked to Bakugou tilting her head.
“Mommy who is this strange man. He looks creepy.” Katsumi said slapping him away causing you to snort as you grabbed her hand quickly.
“Katsumi what did I say about hitting people! Only in self defense.” You said in as stern of a voice you could but you couldn’t help the giggles that slipped your mouth when Bakugou stared to her with shocked eyes.
“Wow she’s… she’s beautiful.” Bakugou croaked, feeling as if someone had just smacked a frying pan against his head. He swore his vision was going blurry.
“(s/o) c’mon! We need to get to the mall before it gets to crowded!” A young girl called to you, you gave her a thumbs up before looking back to Bakugou.
“It was uhm… I’m glad to see you’re doing okay.” You finally managed to say, a smile forcing onto your lips as you began to turn away with your daughter until a firm hand grabbed your wrist causing your head to dart back confused.
“(s/o) we need to talk, now.” Bakugou said sternly, his eyes nodding holding their usual angry look. Instead they held a desperate sort of look.
“Bakugou I…” You whispered, your (e/c) eyes beginning to grow warm as he looked at you his grip growing tighter on your wrist in a gentle manner.
“Please.”
With a defeated sigh you set down Katsumi, “Go on with Mrs. Lynn cutie, I’ll meet you two at the car.” You said softly, ruffling her ash blond hair as she nodded and ran off to your friend.
“Spit it out now Katsuki, I don’t have all day.” You muttered to the boy as you folded your arms, refusing to make eye contact.
His first name rolling off your tongue felt like a slap to the face, especially in the cold tone you gave him. Even though it had been six years it felt like just yesterday…
“Look (s/o) I am so sorry..” Bakugou muttered, his eyes looking down to your face with guilt written across his own, “When we were at UA I… I just had a one track mind and I thought that you were trying to sabotage me.”
Your (e/c) eyes glared to his, your mouth dropping, “Sabotage you? Are you serious? I thought I was giving you the best gift you ever could ask for! I was willing to take care of her and you told me I ruined your life!”
“I know (s/o), I was so fucking stupid I get that.” Bakugou growled, his stern voice already turning you off from the conversation and he took notice, growing angrier by the second as he felt warm tears threaten to spill from his eyes.
“(s/o) listen. I understand that you are pissed at me, you have every damn right to. I was a fucking asswipe and I let my own pride distract me from what was really important.” Bakugou spoke, you pretended not to listen but you couldn’t help but hear the meaningful words escape his lips.
“In all honesty these past few years have been awful. I’ve gotten everything I could’ve dreamed of and I still feel so… so…” Bakugou began to choke up on his words, gritting his teeth, “So fucking empty!”
Your (e/c) eyes looked up to his own in shock, he had never spoken to you like this. You had never even seen him cry, let alone be so vulnerable in front of you.
“I’ve been so damn miserable, I have made so many shitty decisions but this one…” Bakugou whispered, finally building up the courage to look at you, “After seeing you for the first time and your… our beautiful fucking daughter. The daughter I abandoned, the daughter I left you to sufferer with alone, the beautiful fucking daughter that you raised all by yourself.”
Your heart began to melt seeing the steaming tears running down his cheeks, not even noticing the ones falling down your own (s/c) cheeks.
“I don’t care if you don’t forgive me, but I will be damned if I don’t tell you how fucking sorry I am. I threw away the best thing that has ever happened to me and I deserve every bit of misery I’ve faced these past years.” Bakugou cried, staring into your eyes with such intensity it made you freeze in place as he grabbed your hands.
“I am so sorry (s/o), thank you for raising such a beautiful little girl.” Bakugou croaked, squeezing your hands tightly before letting go, wiping away at his face as he heard your friend begin to call for you again.
“Sorry I ran into you, I’ll let you get going now.” The ash blond muttered, beginning to turn around until you grabbed his arm firmly and yanked him around before smashing your lips against his own.
His own crimson eyes stared down to you in shock and confusion until he didn’t even care why you were kissing him. Without questioned he grabbed your waist pulling you close to him and grabbed a handful of your soft (h/c) hair in his hands. He took in every piece of you he had been craving these past years.
You kept your shaking arms gripped tight onto his shirt to bring him closer before pulling away, both of you panting at the intensity of your kiss.
“I don’t know… if I can ever be with you again.” You whispered, your (e/c) eyes looking up to his own that were staring down to you in such a loving way.
“But after hearing your words, I know you aren’t lying to me when you say you’re sorry.” You admit, running your fingers through his ash blond hair.
“I meant every fucking word I spoke and I’ll repeat as many times as you need me to.” Bakugou breathed out, not wanting to let you go before you rested a finger on his lips to hush him.
“So I think I am willing to give you a chance, but don’t expect me to move quick. This will take time.” You muttered, letting out a quiet sniffle.
Bakugou laughed, his eyes blinking out tears as he lifted you up and spun you around letting out delirious laughs.
“You won’t regret this (s/o)! You can take as long as you need.” Bakugou said, setting you back down to the ground as you let out soft laughs before he cupped your face firmly, “I will wait for you until I am a fucking dinosaur, whenever you are ready I will be hear for you… to support my family.”
Your lips curled into a smile as you wiped your face and held onto his hand, “You can start with a nice dinner, you have my number.”
Leaving a soft kiss on his cheek you let go of his hand and began to walk away waving to the boy, trying to calm your puffing red face down. “Goodbye Katsuki.”
The ash blond just stood their, watching your form walk away as a wide grin spread across his face. That empty feeling in his heart, the sickening feeling that had been eating away at him felt like it just disappeared. Now he just stood dumbfounded in the middle of the sidewalk, his shirt soaked from the water he had spilt along with his puffy eyes.
“What happened to you? You look like you just won the lottery.” Kirishima called from behind him, turning his gaze to you.
Bakugou just smiled, an unfamiliar sight for his three friends.
“I just won something even better.”
Pt. 1
Pt. 2
Unsure if there’ll be another part after this but if y’all want one and have ideas, lemme know!
Three months had passed since you left Bakugou lying in a pool of his own blood in the woods. You didn’t return to town and instead wandered in a new direction down an unfamiliar path. The kingdom probably assumed you’d finally died at the hands of the dragon; maybe that was for the best.
The fights you’d survived against the dragon had taught you many things in addition to honing your strength and reflexes. While lying in wait in front of his cave, you sometimes captured your own food and had learned where to search for nearby water. Now without the comforts and safety of a town, you truly put your skills to the test.
With most of your armor long-discarded due to its weight and reminders of those whose goals you used to serve, you relied more on your own abilities to not only survive…but thrive as well.
You often wondered what happened to Bakugou; since you didn’t finish him off, he surely healed and went about his way, right? Did he continue terrorizing the town? Did the King hire more willing fighters to face off against him? Or did he flee to find his own path as you had done rather than wallow in painful memories of things he could not change?
As the weather grew colder, you found yourself building fires in caves to shield yourself from the biting wind. “I might have to find a town soon…it’ll be hard to find meat once most of the animals start hibernating,” you mused while huddled up to the warmth of the flickering fire.
The flames reminded you of him…quick, burning, dangerous, and an almost beautiful mixture and red and orange. Ever since you left him in that clearing, you couldn’t stop thinking about him…but why?
Because you’d finally beaten him?
Because he trusted the truth of his past to you in some deathbed confession?
Because a part of you didn’t actually want to leave him there?
You pulled the fur you’d skinned a while back tighter around your shoulders and swept the thought away, caught in the embers that licked the dark cave ceiling before disappearing into the air.
Several more days passed in your struggle to stay warm as the first dry flecks of snow fell to the ground. Eventually, you came upon a worn dirt path that wound through the woods to an unknown destination. “This is my only chance to get somewhere without a map…” Even though you felt more fulfilled on your own rather than under under the scrutiny of a King, being on your own and without knowledge of the area since you’d just sort of started wandering made you question your choice.
Your feet crunched under the building snow as you walked, step by step, towards somewhere you hoped was habitable and warm. A sound to your left made you stop. A snapping twig? An owl, maybe?
Then, out of nowhere, a dark shadow burst out from the treeline in front of you splintering wood in all direction with a deafening roar.
The creature - no, a monster really - was covered in pitch-black hair and stood on four legs. Larger than a bear, it turned towards you with snarling white teeth and glowing yellow eyes.
Can I fight this? What the hell is it?! Quickly, you whipped out your sword and stood your ground as the bizarre creature stepped towards you ominously. Many animals were still hunting and storing up food for the long winter, desperate to survive the cold; was this thing searching for its next meal?
Like lightning, it leaped towards you and you barely managed to dodge, swinging your sword down in a wide arc. You managed to catch it on its hind leg but not deep enough to do any real damage. That obviously pissed it off so it turned and lunged once more. You held your sword aloft but the monster had learned from that one mistake and barreled right into you, knocking you to the ground.
The back and forth struggle lasted only minutes but you felt as though it were hours from how exhausted you felt. This was nearly as difficult as fighting with Bakugou except you couldn’t reason with this monster since it did nothing but snarl and growl at you ferociously.
Finally, it swiped you with its large paw, your sword spinning out of your hand before you slammed your back against the hard, cold wood of a large tree trunk with a painful grunt. You fell into the snow, your energy depleted. “After all that…this is how I die, huh?”
You listened to the crunch as heavy footsteps padded towards you. With no sword and no strength left in your bruised muscles, you flopped over on your back to look up at the gaping maw that dripped saliva as it prepared to swallow you whole.
…But it didn’t. Just as it reeled back its head, a deafening roar came from the woods yet again and you wondered if it was another beast. Maybe they’ll fight over me? Maybe I can-
A red streak zipped through the air and slammed into the black creature, knocking it back into the trees on the other side of the path. The strong gust of wind that swept up your hair stung your eyes but you tried to will them open to see what the hell was going on.
“…Is that..?” you asked with shaking breath. A red and orange dragon stood ominously, wings outstretched and teeth bared before it lunged at the other creature. You winced in pain and wondered if you had a cracked rib or if you were just beat to shit.
Your eyes fluttered closed as the dragon and monster fought, pain and exhaustion overwhelming you. Sleep sounded so good…tired…
It was hours before you stirred awake, wincing as you shifted.
“Moron, don’t move much,” a gruff voice ordered from somewhere you couldn’t see. What had happened? The fight, the monster, the…dragon…?
Your eyes snapped open and, rather than looking up into the canopy of barren trees you were met with the rock ceiling of what appeared to be a cave. It wasn’t cold in here, either, and you noticed the warm glow of a fire to your right.
And to your left came anonymous footsteps…well, they were anonymous until a head filled with straw-colored hair and smoldering red eyes leaned over you. “You actually lived through all that - I’m mildly impressed,” Bakugou said with a small smirk. He had a scrape across his cheek and his cloak looked torn.
He looked exactly how you remembered him, his face burned into your memory like an embossed letter.
Was this a dream? You lay on the ground with your mouth agape at the half-dragon man. Apparently, your silence displeased him. “Your voice busted too? You got a cracked rib and you’re pretty bruised up…so, say somethin’!”
“Why did you save me?” was all you could think to ask. Your voice was hoarse from the dryness that parched your throat.
Bakugou scoffed and sat down next to you, his wings folded behind him like an oversized shield. “I pay my debts.”
The confused look you gave Bakugou made him roll his eyes. “You spared my life so I spare yours. We’re even, now.”
You attempted to sit up but winced in pain and he put a hand out as if to push you back to the ground, but you weakly swatted his clawed hand away. “You…you’ve been following me? How else…would you know…where I was?”
Whether it was the casting of red light that bounced off his wings reflecting the campfire or something else, you swore a warmth spread across the center of his face as he sat back and looked away. “I couldn’t even things out if I lost you so I’ve been keeping my distance. Got a problem with it? You’re alive, aren’t you?”
Maybe that’s his way of saying he doesn’t want to be alone, either. Your arm wobbled until you slid back to the hard ground. “I see. So you left it behind to find something new like I did.” You turned your head to him and smiled. “Thanks for saving me, Bakugou of the Fire Clan.”
“Whatever. Don’t get used to it; this was a one-time deal,” he claimed, although you weren’t sure how honest his words were.
Changing the subject, you asked, “Did you beat that monster? What was it?”
A triumphant grin split his handsome face from ear to ear. “Stupid question. Of course I won. I’ve heard of those things but didn’t think they lived this far out. It must’ve been desperate for food and saw you as a meal.”
You opened your mouth to talk but your rumbling stomach stopped you in your tracks. Bakugou burst out laughing while you attempted pathetically to hide your face.
Even though you insisted that you could feed yourself, his stubbornness won out when you gave up arguing. He’d roasted some meat over the fire - maybe it was the creature’s but you didn’t care enough to ask - and fed it to you…well, more like dropped it onto your face, obviously missing your mouth on purpose.
“It’s snowing outside,” he said while looking towards the entrance of the cave in a direction you couldn’t look at from your angle on the floor. “It’ll be cold tonight.”
“I was trying to find a town, you know.” He looked towards you. “Wasn’t sure if I could go all winter by myself. Drive to move forward can’t keep you warm. And I missed…” You hummed and let the words disappear into the air, his smoldering red eyes staring at you unblinking. “Nevermind. Once I’m healed you can-”
“Don’t even think about it,” he ground out, cutting you off. “You’re gonna build up your strength and then we’re gonna fight again. Got it?”
I understand, you thought as you closed your eyes. “Mmhm, got it.”
You could feel yourself drifting off to sleep when a warm shadow was cast over you. Opening your eyes, you saw one of Bakugou’s wings had extended itself across your body as he lay next to you on the ground. Warmth radiated off him and you felt it rise into your cheeks.
“W-what are-”
“Humans are so frail,” he commented flippantly. “You’ll freeze if you aren’t warm and I’ll be pissed if I find you like an icicle tomorrow.”
Arguing seemed pointless…and if you were honest with yourself, you didn’t want him to move away.
Stay close to me.
You closed your eyes.
Keep me warm.
You smiled softly.
Be free with me.
Eyes of rubies kept watch as you slept.
Summary: You have a bad habit of picking up strays, and the half-dead villain you find bleeding out in a dumpster is no exception. [Part 1]
A/N: Title from the Hozier song—“don’t let it in with no intention to keep it / jesus christ, don’t be kind to it / oh honey don’t feed it / it will come back.”
Tags/warnings: yandere, violence (not directed toward reader), crying, Shiggy REALLY likes you, reader needs a friend and a good night’s sleep, non-explicit sexual content. [In later parts: 18+, sex, other stuff]
He—Tomura—keeps visiting.
At first you think it’s because of the free medical care, and you wish you had the spine to tell him to suck it up and go see a professional. After a couple weeks turn into a couple months and his wounds fade into ragged purple scars, though, you start to think differently.
Within a short time Tomura has figured out your work schedule, and he does a decent job of not showing up after your long shifts. The unavoidable consequence of this is that he ends up monopolizing your precious days off, but you come to the realization about a month and a half in that you don’t actually mind. You like it. It’s like spending time with a friend.
Mostly you guys talk. It doesn’t seem like Tomura really has anyone to talk to the way the two of you do, but that’s probably just you projecting. It’s usually shallow stuff—TV shows you like, video games he plays, funny stories from patients you treated. Sometimes when you’re cooking for yourself, you make extra for him. (It happens a lot, actually, and at one point you bring up how much his appetite is costing you and the next time you see him he brings a bag of rice and makes you a porridge that crunches between your teeth when you try to eat it. You can’t finish yours, but he eats an entire bowl and insists that you’re being picky.)
Sometimes he sleeps over on the couch, but he’s always gone when you wake up.
The two of you skirt around the heavier stuff, and you know it’s intentional on his part. You have to resist the urge to ask him about being a villain—he’s all but confirmed it for you, and it’s human nature to be curious, isn’t it? In the same way you can’t help looking at a car crash, you want to poke and prod and find out what it is, exactly, that Tomura does for a living. That part of his life is suspiciously absent from your discussions—if you didn’t know better, you’d think he spends all of his time sleeping and playing games and breaking into your place.
On the other hand, you don’t want to know. Plausible deniability. You can accept criminality in the abstract, but you’ve treated too many victims of the bullshit hero–villain battle to be comfortable really knowing why Tomura avoids public places.
So you don’t ask about it, and Tomura doesn’t tell, and you don’t look up his name. And it’s easy. It’s nice. You’d forgotten what it’s like to come back to a home that isn’t empty.
And then one day when you get off a few hours early from your shift, you stop by a convenience store to pick up some snacks for yourself (hey, you’ve been working hard, you’re entitled to binge a little on foods that you’re afraid to look at the fat content for), and you think, Hm, I wonder if Tomura wants some.
[You: 7:49 PM] > Are you coming over today? [T: 7:49 PM] > Yeah why [You: 7:51 PM] > Getting snacks > Want some? [T: 7:51 PM] > No
[T: 8:12 PM] > When r u coming back to ur place
[T: 8:58 PM] > Hey where are you
[T: 9:39 PM] > (Y/N)?
There’s a man with a gun in the convenience store.
“Are you sure it’s a cat? It’s probably a seagull or something.” Your flatmate waited impatiently at the entrance to the alleyway, arms folded. It was clear that they wanted to get home, but they weren’t about to leave a quirkless girl like you alone downtown after dark, not with all the villain activity in the city recently.
“I’m sure,” you said, already elbow deep in garbage as you felt around inside the dumpster. The smell alone was enough to make you gag- the sweet smell of rotting meat mixed with sour, briny garbage water, but if there was a cat trapped in there, you weren’t about to abandon it. “A gull would be flapping around more.” You moved your hand, feeling something soft and slimy inside a plastic bag, the sharp edge of a disposable food container, and then-
Something warm. Moving. Fur- or hair? You grabbed, seizing hold of the creature, and pulled it from the garbage. Behind you, your roommate gagged at the smell, leaning against the wall of the alley. “That’s not a cat.”
