"But Charlie, how are they going to know how to come home if I don't count them..." his words come out slurred and half mumbled as he struggled to keep his eyes open to speak to his daughter.

Something about her tucking him into bed felt wrong, but he was too far gone to really give it much thought. It just felt nice to have someone taking care of him again...

Charlie smiled at her drunk father, moving to hold him up. She could smell the alcohol on him, and she slowly moved him up the stairs to go to his room. When she laid him down and he spoke to her, she looked at him in a bit of confusion before it hit her. Usually you counted ‘sheep’ if you couldn’t sleep. She offered him a sympathetic smile.

“ Oh dad, you don’t need to count some sheep tonight, okay? Just close your eyes and try and get some rest. ” She said softly, moving to tuck him in.
