[🚧 WIP] Oh look, the baby birb has made a friend
…and he is a little shit
There is one other thing to talk about in regards to the dungeon, and that's Osiris, who is on comms for us.
First of all, he was absolutely ready to go there himself. Ikora tells us as much.
She tells us that he's wants to go, but that she's afraid of him hurting himself so that it would be best if we went instead. Because he trusts us. This is enough to make me cry all day, but it's not all.
Once in there, he leads us through. One of his comments in the middle of the dungeon:
This is huge for him. He never does anything for himself. He never says that he needs help for something that sound even remotely selfish or that would be perceived as selfish. But here? He said "I need this." Not "we," not "Ikora," not "Guardians." He. Only he.
He needs to be able to convince others to trust him again. He needs to be able to convince HIMSELF to trust himself again. And the way he says it? He says it almost like he's ashamed of admitting that this is something he needs personally.
And that makes me wail and sob and throw things. Osiris, you are allowed to ask for help and to do things for yourself!!!!
But that's not all! At the end, he makes the following comments:
I will never be a normal person again after this. He and Saint had plans, back in the day, back before the Infinite Forest, that they would go explore the universe together. But not before they made the City safe for everyone else.
They took it upon themselves to do this. To make the City safe, first and foremost, before they can detach and go do things by themselves, for themselves. Securing everyone else took precedence. A job for a thousand years, or more, of making everyone else safe; Osiris and Saint sacrificed everything to make it so.
Only after they finish the most important job, only then are they allowed to leave and do things they want. And nobody would've faulted them if they just left at any point in time. Nobody would've even known. Nobody except them. They couldn't handle thinking selfishly and leaving everyone to struggle while they frollick around the universe.
To them, the first and most important thing is to make sure that everything else is done. Their personal lives and personal wishes and fantasies and dreams come second. That is why they ended up separated. That's why Osiris was exiled, that's why Saint died, that's why Osiris had to move time and space to bring him back, that's why Osiris messed with Hive gods, that's why he became Lightless and kidnapped and in a coma.
Because the most important imperative to them both is to save the world.
And now Osiris is coming to terms with mortality for the first time and he is thinking about what could've been. But even then, he STILL wants to put himself in danger to protect us all.
And I am simply crying super hard on the floor.
Additional cute info to help us from crying, after we returned and Ana wanted to run more missions for extra data, Osiris wanted to himself. AGAIN. She stops him (dungeon helmet lore):
I LOVE the lore about how everyone in the Tower apparently has scheduled watching Colonel time.
"No!" Ana dashes passed Osiris, "It's your night to watch the Colonel. I'll outsource a posse."
ficlet request: drifter telling a bar story from when he ran the end of the world bar at the bottom of felwinter peak - include as much gratuitous felwinter as you like - bonus points if he's telling the story to eris <3
This one got a little away from me. I rewrote it three times and just couldn't figure out what I wanted to do for it. I hope you enjoy anyway!
Sliding a filled glass down the counter Drifter leaned forward with a grin, surprised but not upset to see Eris had dropped by the Ether Tank. It was late and very few others were there at that hour but Saint-14 was sitting in a booth in a corner with his Warlock curled against him. Osiris looked like he had already had three drinks too many but Drifter wasn't about to tell him how to live his life.
He wasn't surprised given the date, he had been thinking of getting a little sloshed himself.
"Everyone has been rather morose today. Usually that's my job." Eris hummed making him laugh.
"Reading my mind? Its a good day to be sad on sunshine. It was years ago today that the Iron Lords failed their raid for SIVA." He hummed and she sipped the drink he had given her.
"I know the tale from Shaxx but had not known them myself. They were your friends?" She asked and he snorted.
"As much as you could be friends with someone like Lord Felwinter I suppose. He helped me take care of a few... Issues. I helped run the bar at the foot of his mountain and keep the Lords up top in touch with the lowly vassals below." He admitted starting to clean a class just to have something to do with his hands as he spoke.
"That's how I met the great phoenix Osiris too. Although he was less of a phoenix and more of a time bomb back then. Lit the place on fire quite a few times." He admitted.
"It happened twice! Twice! And the second time was your own fault!" Osiris cut in glaring at him and Drifter grinned.
"You're tempting a third tonight birdy. No Felwinter here to put out the flames either." He said and Osiris made to stand but Saint stopped him with a hand on his shoulder.
"We do not need a fight. I am here and can stop any flame that would spark up but Osiris is no longer a student either. He is much better versed in his light." He said and Drifter shrugged.
"If you say so. I have to admit the first time was a bit of a shock. I had heard of his visions but didn't realize how violent they were." He admitted and Osiris sighed rubbing his face tiredly before looking at Eris.
"I used to go into such deep traces that I lost control of my body and light. It's why I was seeking help from the Iron Lords in the first place. It's one thing to randomly combust out in the desert and another to do so in a dense wood or worse an occupied home. I knew I needed to master my abilities or they'd hurt more than just myself. Felwinter was a diligent teacher and a dear friend." He said seriously.
"He means that in the same way he and Saint are dear friends nowadays. The first time he lit the bar on fire might have been an accident because of a vision but the second time was because he drank half my store and started going on about wanting Lord Felwinter to step on him." Drifter laughed and Osiris groaned hiding his face in Saint's chest.
Eris hid her own smirk in her drink. "You had a thing for your teacher?" She asked honestly intrigued by the interplay. She also noted that Saint didn't seem surprised or bothered by the knowledge at all.
"You have not met Lord Felwinter. He was very charming. I had tea with him once when on his Peak bringing a request from my father. I think the reason so many people were so mad at him all the time was because of how tight his pants were and how he showed no interest in being helped out of them at all." Saint said shaking his head as Osiris actually laughed.
"That's not true. He just didn't feel urges for it like you or I. Warlord Shaxx certainly earned his interest and I certainly had to wash enough laundry while there to know he had to been doing something." Osiris said abd Eris tilted her head slightly.
"I thought that something would have been you? Didn't you admit to wanting him to step on you?" She asked looking back to Drifter who was smirking.
"There were huge pots around on which Iron Lords were with who. I was running them or I would have put my money in on Osiris and Felwinter being a set until Shaxx was dragged along. Then I wasn't so sure. But the way he reacted to Osiris' incident sealed the deal for me that they were something." He admitted.
Osiris looked at his empty glass and sighed. "Felwinter and I were partners at the time, yes but it wasn't exclusive. We both saw other people as well. However it was nice to have someone I could trust. I... I believed at the time he trusted me as well." He said and Saint pulled him against his side more tightly in a slight hug.
"He lied to everyone about Rasputin and it was clear he did so for your safety. I am certain he feared that telling you would bring you harm. I can not say I would do differently if I had been in his position. Having the Warmind as a father... Ha! Explains why he hit like a warsat! He was strong for a warlock. You are all so small with such little arms! You usually need your magics to get the better of a Titan but I saw him once punch Saladin's head right off! I think he was taking lessons from Shaxx." Saint laughed.
Eris finished her own drink and looked at Osiris finally deciding to be brave and ask her own question.
"Did you... See it?" She asked. The hive had their own forms of peering into the future and she trusted the divination she performed through it.
"Site 6? Yes. Many times. But not in enough detail to be certain. Still... I had my doubts. I confronted him about it and we argued. I told him even if I was wrong, if he left I would not be waiting for him when he returned. I understood the draw of SIVA but it just sounded too good to be true. Saint had offered me accommodations here in the city so I took him up on the offer. I only returned to the temple once to help Saladin lock everything up. I regret that the last of our time together was an argument but I don't regret my choice. Especially knowing that he knew about Rasputin." He admitted before they all sat in silence for a moment.
"You should take a bottle up to Shaxx for me when you head back to the tower. I would but.. well... The big guy kinda scares me." Drifter said holding out a bottle as Saint helped Osiris from their booth, the warlock wobbling a little.
"Shaxx is harmless as a kitten... If the kitten was a mountain lion kitten that could spit fire from it's mouth." Saint said cheerfully.
"We will do that. Good night Drifter. Good night Eris." Osiris said accepting the bottle and walking out arm and arm with his partner.
Eris finally turned back to Drifter and leaned her head on her palm. "Any other fun stories about the Iron Lords?" She asked and he grinned.
"For you sister? I have histories." He agreed and poured her another drink.
im never getting back the joy i had while playing season of the chosen or season of dawn
idc if you reblog this from me but reblog it every time you see one of your friends or mutuals have reblogged it
But when he first opened his eyes, his words were only, “Saint, my love.” That was all. And that was enough.
Felwinter groaned as he woke up, his vision spinning as his systems all reset. He had been fighting in the battle against the Witness side by side with Saint when the Young Wolf had dealt the killing blow and he had been blown off the tower falling to what he assumed would be a final death since Felspring had been killed just a few years prior.
He knew Saint would be devastated but he would keep going to take care of the Young Wolf just like Saladin had kept going after losing Jolder and like how Felwinter had kept going even after Osiris had taken his place in Site 6 and died to the SIVA.
Closing his eyes he let his last thoughts be of Osiris and his worst regret. Then he felt something wrench something inside of him and it all went black.
He was surprised when he woke up laying on the ground in Site 6 and winced as he dragged himself to his feet looking around. It was like he remembered it when he had helped the Young Wolf fight off the SIVA infected Iron Lords. He jumped when a ghost materialized beside him before staring dumbly at Felspring as she started talking about how she didn’t know how they were alive after being destroyed by SIVA.
“But… we weren’t here? You were killed by the Celebrant when I tried to kill it alone. Osiris died here. He wouldn’t let me go. Insisted to let this be his test to earn the title of Iron Lord. So I gave in. He never came home again. I moved to the Last City and moved in with Saint-14… don’t you remember?” He asked her surprised.
She buzzed back at him in confusion. “I… don’t. No. I remember you fighting here after a fight with Osiris and he stormed off. We all died when Lady Jolder blew everything up.” The ghost admitted.
Taking that in Felwinter nodded. “Well… we should go to the tower. I’m certain Ikora will help us find answers and I want to see Saint.” He said and she bobbed before coming over and nuzzling against his neck. He patted her gently.
“I missed you too.” He murmured before they started picking their way out to find a ship and get to the last city.
The bustle of the Tower soothed his nerves even if he got a lot of stares. He ignored them and made his way to the apartment he shared with Saint near the hanger glad that the code still seemed to be the same to let him in.
However, walking inside, he immediately felt like he had entered the wrong apartment. Some items were right, like the copper tea kettle from his rooms at the Iron Temple and a few books he knew were his but there were also stacks of papers everywhere, and little trinkets he knew neither he nor Saint had bought.
“It looks like your office when Osiris was in a tizzy over some new topic,” Felspring giggled and Felwinter make a snorting sound as he walked over to one of the datapads. Before he could reach it, however, he felt the cold chill of void energy behind him and immediately summoned a dawnblade and spun just in time to block the shield spinning for his head. It got reflected back to the titan and Felwinter dove to the side as a fist was aimed at him instead.
“Saint! Stop! It’s me!” He yelped and jumped over the couch as Saint-14 spun around glaring.
“You break into my house and you want me to not kill you? I do not know who you are,” He growled
“What do you mean you don’t know me!? So help me if you got amnesia from banging you head to0 hard into a Vex or Fallen again I’m going to bash your head into a wall! Saint-14, I am your husband. I live here! Felwinter? Iron Lord?” He yelled as he continued to dodge Saint’s attacks but the name seemed to draw him up short.
“Felwinter? Lord Felwinter died centuries ago! I only met him twice in temple and never spoke to him directly. I did not marry him, I married Osiris! Everyone knows I married Osiris! You are not even good liar.” Saint snarled at him accent getting thicker with his anger.
Felwinter froze as pain that wasn’t from an injury radiated through him but then the door opened and they both turned to look at Osiris as he walked in.
It was definitely Osiris despite looking older and more haggard. He looked between them eying the dawnblade and Saint’s shield but looking up into Felwinter’s eyes Felwinter was relieved to see a look of recognition.
“Felwinter?” He asked and Saint snorted but let his shield fade away so Felwinter followed his lead and let his blade dissipate as well.
“So he claims! He also claimed that we were married and you died! A fool who doesn’t even know his history well enough to lie! We both know Lord Felwinter died,” Saint huffed walking over to stand protectively near Osiris.
“You died too Saint. In the Garden. We, of all people, should know that impossible things can happen. How did you know the code for the door to get in? It was not forced,” Osiris asked calmly.
Felwinter felt like his heart was being torn to pieces. “I… It was… Our wedding date. I’ll go. Clearly this is not my home. There was a mistake.” He said but Osiris’ hand shot out and he grabbed Felwinter’s arm.
“Your wedding to Saint? Please don’t leave yet. I know this must be difficult for you but I believe you are who you say you are. I knew Lord Felwinter and his light is unmistakable. Your light is unmistakable.” Osiris said and Felwinter resisted yanking his arm back.
“Yes. My wedding to Saint-14. A different Saint-14 it seems. Let me go.” He said the sound like grating metal as he tried not to lash out from the hurt that was building up his chest.
Osiris released him and he cradled his arm to his chest as if it had been burnt as he backed toward the door.
“Fel… You don’t have to go. It was a misunderstanding but even if you aren’t from here that doesn’t mean you aren’t wanted.” Osiris said eyes wide and hand still hovering outstretched.
Felwinter looked between him and Saint, violet eyes now looking appraising instead of angry.
“I… I should go.” He said and wrenched the door open and ran. He could hear, briefly, Osiris turn on Saint and start hissing at him like an angry cat but he quickly put too much distance between the apartment and himself to heard anything. He found a dark corner he knew no one would pass by and let himself curl up starting to sob into his knees. Felspring did her best to nuzzle in to his neck to offer him some comfort but it was all so much.
