Trying to learn more about the occult is so intimidating. I am trying to gather as much knowledge as I can, but there is so much reading material. Like for most other western religions it's "๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐ช๐ด ๐ต๐ฉ๐ช๐ด ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฌ. ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ฅ ๐ช๐ต ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ๐ฏ ๐ช๐ต๐ด ๐ต๐ฆ๐ข๐ค๐ฉ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ๐ด." But for the occult it's "๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐ช๐ด ๐ข ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ค๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฑ๐ช๐ต ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ฅ ๐ญ๐ช๐ฃ๐ณ๐ข๐ณ๐บ.

Hello Lovelies!
So youโve decided to write a spell, great! Everyone has the capacity and capability to write a working spell. This is a list of some beginner tips for new spell writers, or for experienced writers who feel they need to go back to the basics.
1. Donโt be afraid of your own style.
Some spells are super flowery with long words and Shakespearian phrases. Some spells require 18 ingredients and 3 days to cast them. Some spells require specific times to cast them and the perfect astrological conditions. Some spells are simple, consisting of a single phrase. Donโt be afraid of your own individual style. A spell written by you, for you, should be a personal experience. Just because your spell doesnโt flow a certain way doesnโt mean itโs โwrongโ or wonโt work. Spell writing is a form of self expression and each spell will be as individual and unique as the person writing it.
2. Donโt think too much.
Spell writing (for me anyway) is more of a spiritual experience than an intellectual one. I usually sit down with my pen and paper. Then I meditate for a minute thinking about what I want to achieve. Then I just let the words flow out onto the paper, without thinking about what it all means. You can always read it after and make adjustments. If you just sit down and let it happen, you may be surprised by what you come up with!
3. Make your own associations.
Donโt feel like you have to research the meaning of every ingredient or color that you use. I may think red is a color for lust while you see it as a color for anger. Both associations are right. If something doesnโt feel right to you, or you personally feel different about something. Itโs ok to use an ingredient in a different way than what is โtraditionalโ.
4 Do research on any ingredients you use.
This may seem contradictory to my last tip, but this time Iโm talking about physical properties. Will your gemstone dissolve in water? Is that herb you want to use toxic? Could you have an allergy to that essential oil? Itโs important to do your research because some of the ingredients used in spell craft can be very potent. 5. Have fun!
If spell writing is stressing you out, try taking a break and coming back to it later. Whatever energy you have while writing your spell is going to show up in the casting of your spell. If youโre angry while writing a healing spell, it probably wonโt work as well as you wanted it to. Donโt get frustrated with yourself. Youโre new at this it will take some time. Just have patience with yourself.
I hope these tips are helpful for any new spell writers! Happy writing! -Liz

So you wanna make your own incense?
You've come to the right place sweetness. For clarity's sake I want to specify that I am not a professional. This is simply what I did to make the incense that I use. Always research your herbs and herbal mixtures, be aware of your allergies, and remember to use herbs from high quality sources to protect your health. And remember, the best witchcraft is safely practiced witchcraft.
What you'll need: Herb of choice (no correlations listed here, otherwise we will be here all night)
Coffee grinder (or a mortar and pestel, but baby we are in the 21st century work smarter not harder)
Tap water (charge it if you want for extra pizzazz)
Optional: oven, preheat to 190 degrees Fahrenheit
Step one: grind up your herbs in the coffee grinder, the finer the better. My herb was food grade lavender.
Step two: Divide the ground herb into two separate bowls, a wet bowl and a dry bowl. Into the wet bowl, mix into the herb with some water so the consistency is a modable clay. Sacred water is great for this.
Step three: Form the clay into a cone shape in any way that makes the most sense for your body. For me, that involves using my thumbs and middle fingers, but whatever way works best.
Roll the wet cone into the dry bowl, coating the cone in a layer of powdered lavender.
You can either leave the cone to dry over night, alternatively---
Place in oven for 40 minutes to an hour to dehydrate the cones!
Ta-da! I hope these directions inspire you to give this a shot yourself. I know I had a lot of fun making this lavendar incense, and I know I'm excited to make more in the future. Don't stop creating lovelies.

Counting Crows
As far as symbolism goes crows are a pretty mixed bag. To some they are the sacred messengers of spirits or deities and signs of good fortune, to others, they are an omen of bad luck, sorrow, and death. Witches have been divinating the crow's message, through various methods, for centuries and perhaps the most notable of these is the practice of counting crows. Thatโs it. You donโt need candles or crystals or a mantra or a yoga mat or a special outfit or anything.
You donโt even need to be able to do the thing where you cross your legs with your feet up on your thighs. You can meditate lying down, sitting up, kneeling, regular cross legged, or even standing. Just so youโre not in a position where youโll lose circulation, youโll be fine.
Yup, thereโs kinds. Lots of kinds. Way too many to list in this post. Do your research, find a kind that works for your needs. Practice a bunch of different ones! The kind I recommend for a beginner is called Mindfulness Meditation.
Mindful meditation is about staying in the present moment, rather than ruminating on the past or worrying about the future. Like any kind of meditation, it improves your focus and concentration. Itโs also been shown to increase your empathic connection with the world around you. Once you achieve a mindful state, you can move into any other kind of meditation you want.
The guide below is for mindful meditation.
Go to a quiet place and find a comfortable position that you can keep up for a few minutes without getting sore or losing your balance.
Close your eyes and begin breathing steadily through your nose.
Focus on your breath as it moves through your nose. Try to follow it from moment to moment, rather than lingering on a past sensation or anticipating a future one. The breath is dynamic; it moves with you through time. Try to synchronize your focus with your breath so that they both exist in the present moment.
When you have a feeling, an emotion, or a thought, acknowledge it, accept it, and then go back to focusing on your breath.
If you find you have become distracted, bring back your focus by counting to 10: each odd number is an inhale, while evens are exhales.
Do not be discouraged if you become distracted often; meditation is not something that comes naturally: it has to be practiced. The present moment is hard to hang on to, because it requires not hanging on to anything. The present moment is always slipping by, and it will take practice to teach your mind to acknowledge and dismiss each moment rather than trying to linger. Try aiming for one minute of focused meditation, and increase the time little by little as your concentration improves.
Eventually, youโll be able to meditate in noisy places, with your eyes open, using focus tools like candles or crystals, you can start employing visualization or mantras if you want; the sky is the limit. But before you can do any of that, you have to be able to concentrate. Simple quiet, eyes-closed meditation that focuses on the breath is a good way to get you there.
Happy meditating!
Loose Mabon incense
dried orange peels
star anise
cinnamon bark or cinnamon stick broken up
dried cedar leaf
calendula flowers
8 drops orange essential oil
5 drops cinnamon essential oil
3 drops nutmeg essential oil
Break up chunkier ingredients, like cinnamon and dried orange peel, into smaller pieces. This will both release the scent and make them easier to burn.
Mix all the dry ingredients together in a clean glass jar using a chopstick or the handle of a wooden spoon.
Add essential oils, one drop at a time, mixing the incense between drops to disperse oil evenly. Store in a clean glass jar for up to 4 months.
Use your Mabon incense anyway you want to.
Hereโs a few ideas:
Toss a handful in to empower your ritual bonfire.
Burn it in a cauldron or fire safe bowl on a charcoal disk.
Steep it in water and boil it on the stove for smoke-free way to release the scent of autumn in your home.
Add a small pinch into a handmade ritual candle during the melting process..
