Not to be confused with volcanic salt/Himalayan black salt/kala namak. Black salt has strong protective properties, especially when combined with other protective/uncrossing herbs (herbs meant to undo a curse or hex). Itâs used to absorb negative energy, create wards, and undo curses. Itâs also good for banishing and binding. Hereâs my recipe:Â
What youâll need:Â
Cleansing items, such as smoke, bells, spray, whichever you personally use.Â
Sea SaltÂ
Charcoal Disk (or charcoal powder)Â
Black Candle
RosemaryÂ
Garlic Powder
Chili PowderÂ
Crushed Red Pepper FlakesÂ
PaprikaÂ
Black PepperÂ
Black CandleÂ
BowlÂ
Mortar & PestleÂ
Black stones/crystalsÂ
Any additional protective items you may have. (Here I gathered dried red peppers, dried chili peppers, lemon, sage, and ashed from a Litha bonfire.) These items are for You to draw some extra energy from, and wonât be directly added to the salt.
Frankincense and/or Dragonâs Blood incense.Â
Instructions:Â
First, cleanse your space using whatever best works for you.Â
After cleansing, start your frankincense and/or dragonâs blood incense, this will be going for the duration of the spell.Â
Light your black candle.Â
Gather your supplies as seen in the picture.Â
As always, make sure your intention is strong, and continuously draw from it. Return to your intent no matter how often your mind wanders (which it will, thatâs ok).Â
In a bowl, mix the salt with the herbs first.Â
Remember your other protective items are there for you to use. If needed, refocus on their protective energies and draw from that.Â
Use a mortar and pestle to crush the charcoal disk separately. This takes a lot of physical energy, and it is very messy. If you prefer to use charcoal powder, thatâs ok, though charcoal disks will be cheaper. I like charcoal disks because I feel more energetically involved in/connected to the process.Â
Mixing counterclockwise, mix the very finely crushed charcoal into the salt. Mix. Use as many charcoal disks needed to get to the level of darkness you want.Â
Mind wandering? Remember your intent! Refocus!Â
When youâre done, transfer the black salt into a jar and set the crystals around it in a circle. Let it continue to build and charge this way, until you feel it is ready. If youâre not sure, it can also be until the candle or incense goes out.Â
Done! Sprinkle this around the parameter of your wards, such as along doorways and windows. It can also be used during unhexing/curse breaking spells, general protection spells, banishing, and binding.Â
This is NOT FOR CONSUMPTION.Â
Even if you used edible activated charcoal, know that 1. charcoal interacts with many medications by basically absorbing them and rendering them useless, including birth control, diabetes medications, cancer drugs, and more. and 2. Iâm not sure this would taste great?Â

At this time of year, holly is the perfect herb to use to clearway any negative energy in your home.
For this spell you'll need :
A sheet of newspaper
Three holly leaves
A piece of stationary
A pen
First lay the sheet of newspaper flat on a table or floor, then place the holly leaves in the middle of the newspaper.
Write things you'd like to leave in this passing year on the stationary and visualize them vanishing as you tear up the stationary.
With this, visualize your negative thoughts/feelings dissipating as you scatter the pieces around the holly leaves, allowing them to cleanse the torn paper and yourself.
Finally wrap everything up in your newspaper and toss it outside, giving it back to the earth.
Between every in-depth reading you do: they require a lot of energy and focus and can heavily impact the energy around your deck
When you get a new deck: you donât know who has handled the deck before you or what energies surrounded it
If someone touches your deck: their energy can be easily transmitted through physical contact (which you could potentially use to your advantage if youâre reading for them)
When you see multiple cards from a recent previous reading appear in your current reading: a sign that the energies of the people you are reading for a becoming muddled
At different times of the year - equinoxes, full moons, first day of a season: routine cleansing is a great way to keep your cards in good shape
If you havenât used it in a while: old, built up energies need to be cleared to help âwake upâ your deck after itâs been sitting unused
With a cleansing sigil: place the deck in the on top to the sigil and write âNegative energyâ or âOld energyâ for removal
Passing through some sage smoke: sage is a great all around cleanser!
Shuffling while focusing on cleansing: shuffling reorganizes the cards and is a quick method for cleansing in between consecutive readings
Place a clear quartz on top: quartz, especially when charged with light from a full moon, absorbs negative and foreign energy really well
With the light of a full moon:Â the full moon represents new beginnings and holds strong cleansing power, place on a window sill overnightÂ
Meditation with a focus on cleansing:Â sit near or hold your deck, close your eyes, focus on your breathing (count your inhale as 1, exhale 2, inhale 3, etc until 30), then imagine a white, cleansing light enveloping your deck
Make a salt circle around your deck: can get kind of messy, but the salt will absorb negative energy, make sure to dispose of it after!
Put the cards in order (by suit, element, number, or astrology):Â sorting your deck will give it a fresh start, make sure all the cards are upright as well!
Knock three times: another quick way to cleanse or âwake upâ your deck, especially great for after you havenât used your deck in a while
Need minimum 12 hours a day of do my own thang time
The basics of Beginning
Being a new witch is terrifying.
Some of us start early and donât realize it until much later.
We where the little children that dug up worms and gathered flowers and collected nice rocks and that read to many books and didnât belive a single word we read in the Bible (This last thing is a personal statement and experience). And then with sixteen, eighteen, twenty, twenty-five we rediscover magic as a part of our lives.
Some of us donât start untill we think that it is already to late to start with something new.
We have been doing the same practice for over a decade and it never felt quite right. We have a start-stop relationship with magic. We think it might just not be for us at all.
But now we want to start again from the very beginning and do it right this time.
Maybe you recognize yourself in those statements? Or meybe not.
Whether the above stated fits you down to the blood or not at all. A fact is that you want to be a witch.
You want to practice magic. You want to walk the croocked path. You want it with all your soul. Right?
When you are at this point of knowing that you want to be a witch but not knowing how to be a witch then the internet is your best friend and your worst enemy.
Everyone has their own opinion, their own instructions, their own rules. And none of them feel entirely right.
Donât curse, curse all you like. Use crystals, use wands, use this, use that. Have an altar, have a garden, have a cat/toad/bird.
But few people ever tell you to start with what you have. To do what feels right for you. To use what is at hand.
Ask yourself: what do I have?
Can I practice openly?
Do I want an altar?
Do I care about any gods? Do I want to worship any gods?
Do I want to use ⌠in my craft?
Is this really what I want to work with or who I want to work with?
Do I really believe this/that will work?
Ask yourself these questions and more! Question everything. Only use in your craft what feels right to you.
Write it down in your diary, your book of shadows, your grimoire, your whatever. Just write it down.
Write: This is awesome! I love it! It works so well for me! Iâll incorporate it into my craft from now on! Have to learn more! Research! Research! Research!
Or: That was terrible! Never again! Not my thing! Oh hell to the no! Nope! Nope! Nope!
Experiment. Fail. Try something else.
Be ready for the failure. Not everything is going to work for you. It doesnât matter if it works for every other person on the planet, if it doesnât work for you it doesnât work for you.
Not everything is going to be available to you either.
You shouldnât try to force your way into something thatâs not meant to be for you. That doesnât mean you have to be dense about it tho.
Knowledge is attainable. Talent or The Right to something is not.
(Be respectful please. Some aspects of a closed practice or religion should not be used unless you are a part of it)
Also be ready for the Argumentâ˘.
Some people will tell you that everything you do is wrong and that the only way to do it right is to do it their way or not at all.
This can be discouraging especially if you are just starting out.
Always remember that people that say things like that arenât relevant or important.
They donât want to help you, they just want to be right about something for once in their life.
The point of this post is to tell you that you donât need a garden full of herbs if you canât have one. That you donât need a wand if you canât make one. That you donât need 30 different herbs or crystals if you canât afford them. And that a pot will do just as good a job as any cauldron ever will.
Also:
My pointers for new witches as an overview
Work with what you have
Do what feels right
Use what feels right
Follow your own path
Be ready for failure
Be ready for the Argument â˘
Itâs never Your craft vs. Someone elses craft
Follow your star, or donât
Your craft, your choice!
Now go out there and be a witch.
-J. S. Morrigan
It is assigning meaning to dreams, meaning using what one dreams of and the symbols, objects and events of the dream to relate them to the psychological, emotional and sometimes spiritual state of the dreamer. Some use it as a way to divine and predict the future while others use it to help assess their emotional states and subconscious thoughts they may be ignoring in waking life.
The planets each have such very distinct meanings to them making it a bit difficult to generalize them all together, though dreaming of being in space or away from Earth may relate to feeling like an outsider or like you feel misunderstood by your social group. Space can also relate to the need to explore your subconscious more as well as more about yourself as an individual.
Mercury: Often Mercury is related to logic and communication as well as related to business success. Dreaming of seeing Mercury relates to the fact you are in deep thought recently. You are likely pondering something related to business and monetary decisions. If you are on Mercury, it relates to working on âproblem solvingâ something in your waking life.
Venus: Venus is the planet of love and romance but also of giving, happiness and honesty. If you see Venus in your dreams likely it means youâve been thinking about your relationships in your life and are working on figuring them out. If you are on Venus then it means you are at a peaceful part of your life and are feeling content with things. It also relates to feeling loved in your waking life.
Mars: Mars is a planet of energy and action. Seeing Mars means you are having some sort of conflict in your waking life. Remember to consider the feelings of others in your life, because this may be a warning that you have been hurting them. Being on Mars can relate to feeling motivated in your waking life and aiming to reach a goal of yours. You may also be very focused on one of your passions right now.
Earth: Seeing Earth from space or another planet means you need to focus more on the whole picture. You have been too focused on the little things and minor details though it has only been adding to your waking stress. It may also relate to needing to let yourself enjoy things more often.
Jupiter: Jupiter is the planet associated with growth and wisdom was as well as truth and justice. Seeing Jupiter often relates to the fact you recently had a life lesson occur in your waking life and you are still pondering over it. It couldâve been an easy lesson or a hard one but one that you needed to learn in the long run. Being on Jupiter relates to recent abundance in your waking life. you may also be feeling rather mature lately and even possibly a bit egotistical.Â
Saturn: Saturn is often related to success and victory in dreams. Seeing it means you feel victorious over something and are still glowing over it. Being on Saturn or its rings means you are currently rather happy.
Neptune: Neptune is the planet of dreams, creativity, exploration and imagination. Seeing it means you are feeling inspired in waking life and are working to find a creative outlet. If you are on the planet however it may relate to lies youâve been telling yourself and are refusing to let go of. You may have to start being more honest with yourself.Â
Uranus: Uranus is a symbol for change, if seen in your dreams it means changes are currently afoot in your life. Being on Uranus relates to the need for more independence and freedom.
Pluto: Pluto is a planet associated with power, life and death, and rebirth. Seeing Pluto in your dreams can mean you have a big decision to make and you need to weigh your options thoroughly. Being on Pluto means you feel powerless and lost about a situation. It may also relate to feeling alone and exiled from others.
Mercury:Â is said to allude to a financial favor or gain to come.
Venus:Â a new romance is to come in you future, or if you are in a relationship you are about to face a hurdle ahead
Mars:Â petty misunderstandings, arguments and conflict are on the horizon

Neptune: be prepared to face a creative challenge, you will need to figure out a way around it. May also be a warning that someone is lying to you
Uranus: you are about to be faced with some bad news
Pluto: for centuries it is believed it is a warning of danger and disaster, others say it is a sign of heartbreak to come
