Been seeing a lot of people undermine MatPat’s video about the Markiplier Cinematic Universe.
While yes I agree on some of the critical points brought up, I can’t get behind the “He just doesn’t understand” argument, especially related to the comments that his research and understanding of the lore is lacking.
Think about how much time you have spent analyzing Mark’s content, reading up on theories from other community members. Think about how much you know Mark as a person and creator because of how much time you spend in and with the community.
Now contrast that with a man who for one, is an outsider looking in, and two, doesn’t have as much of a finite understanding of The Who’s and Marks content as you, a person who has spent months, maybe even years watching Mark.
MatPat analyzes what the characters are, that’s all he has time for between his channel (and not to mention him and Steph’s new baby).
We as a community analyze who the characters are.
Both are right in their own way. So yes, the video isn’t perfect, but MatPat did wonderfully considering he just dove into the lore.
Happy Birthday @therealjacksepticeye ! Thank you for making all of us smile and happy everyday! I hope you have a great birthday and a great year! Please keep up with the amazing work! - This is a collaboration with a close friend of mine (will post her part soon). She did the sketch and I outlined and colored.
I’m starting to get why I love Unus Annus so much. Sure, the cursed content is great, but that’s not why I go back to it every day.
It’s Mark and Ethan’s friendship. It’s not that their friendship is particularly unique or somehow so much better than any other friendship. It’s just. A normal-ass bonding time. Just one guy daring the other to do something and then laughing when they fail miserably. Snickering at each other’s shared humor. Making sex jokes and seeing how much it takes to make the other break. Despite its mature content, Unus Annus reminds me of when I was ten years old, kicking a ball in the suburbs with my friends and telling them that they ain’t shit before I fall on my ass and make everyone laugh. It’s that pure good feeling that you get just hangin’ with your pals.
I saw a comment on the channel saying that Unus Annus feels like Markiplier Makes but without YouTube boundaries. And I think the reason why the Markiplier Makes series is so popular is because it’s just a twenty-minute recording of just friends hanging out and doing something dumb together.
I feel like Unus Annus has managed to take that innocent but chaotic joy of just being with the boys and made it a highlight of their whole channel. Maybe it wasn’t their intention, or maybe it was. But damn. Every time I click on a video, I’m always smiling at the end, and thinking to myself, “Wow. They are such good friends.”
So I’m seeing on my dash some posts about a reporter asking Michael Sheen if he wore a fatsuit to play Aziraphale. There are all sorts of very astute comments on why someone would assume Sheen was heavier in the role than he actually was – Hollywood’s unrealistic body standards, him wearing a lot of layers and standing next to a snakey fellow, etc and so forth – but one of the biggest the fans are missing is deliberate costume design.
So for the sake of artists and cosplayers (or more likely, people who just like to read blog posts) here’s some shaping hacks that trick the eye in Good Omens. PS, these hacks tend to be geared toward traditionally masculine body types:
In the present day, Crowley wears modern slimming clothes in dark colors. The shoulders and overall body length are emphasized. He wears a structured jacket with wide, angular, straight shoulders. It’s short to make his legs look longer, but the waist is lower to make his torso look longer and his belly look smaller by suggesting his waist doesn’t start until his hip sockets.
Tight jeans, obviously, because unlike other kinds of tight pants, jeans have enough structure to be slimming.
His jacket collar points sharply upward and creates a downward arrow-shape, along with his v-neck tee and long, narrow, loose tie-thingy that all lead the eye downward, tricking us into thinking there’s more length and less width. The fabric is cut close but hangs, doesn’t cling, from his midsection.
Meanwhile, Aziraphale is dressed in a very old fashioned style – that is to say when clothes were designed to make one look fatter wealthier:
In addition to oft-mentioned layers, he wears light-colored clothes in bulky fabrics. His frock coat is long, making his legs look shorter, but his waist is higher, firmly holding the eye higher on the body and drawing attention to the widest part of the stomach. His coat has large pocket flaps and its shoulders are on the narrow, round side, which not only makes his arms seem plumper but deemphasizing his shoulders makes his middle look wider. The coat has a wide, rounded, downward-pointing collar that tricks the brain into thinking the wearer is wider in the middle.
He wears a snug waistcoat with lots of buttons and a watchchain across his tummy that draws your attention. His clothes are rumpled and unstructured and tend to be baggy in the legs and back. Lastly, he wears a bowtie instead of a necktie, directing the eye once more toward width rather than length.
If you’re interested in drawing or cosplaying Aziraphale, you can use all the above information to get that soft angel look at any weight. You can even see some of it working for Crowley in his Elizabethan doublet.
I finally have some time to write some headcanons that have been regurgitating in my mind on a daily basis about one of my favorite egos. Oh, to be an unidentifiable entity in a trench coat with bloody eyes narrating someone’s death. The mystery. The intrigue. This is Peak Character Design. I am living for this.
Origins
The Host is the end result of the psychopathic murderer known as the Author, who, after being shot by Daniel, was left to die in his cabin in the woods.
The Author, having discovered his supernatural ability to control one’s actions with his writings, began tapping into forces that would eventually lead to the Host’s creation the moment he put his pen to paper.
Something happened in between the period of the Author being shot and the Host sitting in the ego office. As the Author was dying, he was visited by the manifestation of the forces that gave him his power. It is unknown if this manifestation was physical or simply a vision. The forces offered him survival, but at a costly price. The Author agreed without hesitation, and without knowing the price.
The forces used the Author’s body to fashion the Host. The price was the Author’s freedom, independence, humanity, and eyes. This transformation led to additional changes in both its physiology, personality, and appearance.
What It Is
After losing its humanity, the Host lost its right to be called “he.” It is not a person anymore. It is an extension of the forces that created it.
Whatever forces created the Host are not benign, but they do follow a certain order or code. No one knows what that code is, but it involves the death of selected, unrelated individuals.
The Host cannot physically break that code. It was made by the code. To break the code would be to kill itself.
The Host does not live by our rules. It can exist at any point in time it needs to be, while simultaneously living in its own illusioned time. Its old-fashioned clothes, its 1900s microphone, and its garishly yellow studio light have all been chosen by the forces that created it, and it is a part of the Host.
The Host cannot change its appearance, cannot age, and cannot be killed.
The forces have a sense of irony. The Host cannot see or read or write, but it can see far into the future and is selectively omnipotent. It knows everything about its victim, as well as future occurrences that will happen in the world.
Abilities
The Host can see its victim’s entire life, as well as their death. It can accelerate occurrences in their life to happen in an instant, or change them completely. It almost always leads the victim to their swift death.
The Host, while unable to see the path in front of it, is able to move from one point to another, say a room. No one has seen it walk, however.
Despite its lack of sight, it’s known on occasion to look directly into its victim’s eyes before they die.
Exactly like the Author, anytime the Host narrates the victim’s actions, the victim will be compelled to do so. If something it narrates something happening to the victim, it will happen.
There is no known defense against the Host.
Vocal warmups.
More insight as to what the hell goes on inside of Wilford’s mind.
Oh gosh this… this was crazy. I really wish I went there earlier but the traffic was crazy. Basically what happened was, the group was leaving but Mark got out of the car to take a picture with me. And… I just have no words of how much that means to me. He got out to take a picture with someone who he doesn’t even know. It just… I’m so happy he did that. I was shaking and so awkward but I was still able to take this. I wish I could tell him how much he means to me but, we had to go. I wish I met the rest but, they were just waiting for Mark. Mark if you see this, thank you for letting me take this and being so kind. Thank you for helping me through all the tough times. Please continue doing what you’re doing. @markiplier
A bit late to the train, but just wanted to say Happy Birthday to the coffee bean @therealjacksepticeye! Hope this year will be much better than before
