I dont tend to read WIPs for this reason, but when I do it's never surrender

I was scanning through AO3 and wondered about fic updates (with no pressure on the writers who haven't abandoned their babies lol) and what period of time (to a reader) means the fic is likely not returning from hiatus/the grave.

I could not imagine what this would have done to Luke's parents. Clark entrusts their kid to Layton one time, and you know what, it goes well! He really seems to be coming out of his shell, and maybe the road to healing his and Clark's relationship is on the up and up.

Does it again, Luke comes back alright and oh boy, now Clark and Luke are really on the mend! Luke is also happy and excited about everything a lot!

Luke doesn't come home the third time.

Where is their son. Where is his mentor.

Where is their baby boy.

The characters lying dead after the beam of light. I actually cried when I saw this, not just because I love these characters. But the thought of them never reviving and the parents of Layton and Luke having to know that their sons have passed away.

Vader: [opening a desk drawer in Obi-Wan’s old room] Let’s see what this old fool kept in here…[picking up a piece of paper]  Obi-Wan: [in a letter]

Dear Anakin,

If you’re reading this, then you must be rifling through my belongings, which means you are either extremely bored (in which case I suggest going and tidying up your quarters, which I don’t need to see to know are a disaster,) or I’ve been missing for an extended amount of time and the Order needs the room to store extra chairs, or I’ve died, possibly while trying to rid the galaxy of General Grievous. If I am in fact dead, I hope this letter finds you well in spite of it, and that you have not gone off the deep end or murdered anyone in an attempt to avenge me. (…unless it’s Grievous, I suppose.)

You will find attached to this letter the receipts for several items in my room, such as the electric tea kettle. I hope you can at least return them for store credit.

I’ve set up a college savings plan with the Galactic Bank of Coruscant, because I noticed that Senator Amidala is obviously pregnant, and since I am not nearly as dense as you apparently think I am, I presume the child is yours. The account information is in my safe, which I would give you the combination to except that I know you have been breaking into it since you were 14.

If you do intend to eventually leave the Order, as I suspect you might, please make sure that you give the Council two weeks’ notice. It’s only polite, and you never know when you may need to use them as a reference. Even though I know you clash with them, they do care about you.

Finally, please make sure Duchess Satine’s nephew gets the inheritance I’ve left him (the information is also in my safe, and no, I’m not going to tell you any more details about this. I realize how much this is going to torment you, and I’d be lying if I said that’s not bringing a smile to my face.)

Your blanket is in the hamper. Wash it on the gentle cycle. The password for the wi-fi, in case you’ve forgotten, is BuyYourOwnDataPlanAnakin.

Be well, my Padawan, and I shall see you again someday – hopefully many years from now – when you, too, rejoin the Force. Don’t forget to change the payment settings for Netflix now that I’m dead or you’ll fall behind on your programs.

Yours,  Obi-Wan Kenobi  PS: Don’t let Vos speak at my funeral.

So sorry to the Layton fandom, but Orpheus and Eurydice have my heart.

Tragic Ships Tournament Quarter Finals

Tragic Ships Tournament Quarter Finals
Tragic Ships Tournament Quarter Finals

Propaganda under the cut!

Orphydice:

"y'all probably know the story of orpheus and eurydice. but they are SO tragedy. they are TEXTBOOK tragedy. they redefined the genre. on their literal wedding day as she's walking down the aisle eurydice gets bit by a snake and dies. orpheus loves her so much he goes down to the underworld to try and save her. hades allows him to take her back to the land of the living, as long as she walks behind him, and he cannot look back, otherwise her soul will be taken. he's mostly fine , but begins to doubt and at the very end of the tunnel, he looks back. they lock eyes for a moment before she disappears back into hell. orpheus is then so distraught that he wanders the earth singing mournful melodies and gets stoned to death by some nymphs who think his sad songs are bumming them out. DUUUUDE their story consumed my every waking thought as a child."

Janice and Melina:

No propaganda submitted :(

Hnnnnnnnnnnnn my heart 😭😭😭

You write so lovely ❤️

yes there's a lot of things to criticize about Star Wars but one thing i will always love it for is being so unabashedly tragic

i'm sure it's been said before, but one of the main things i think powers the SW fandom (fics in particular) is the (in)evitability of it all

time travel fix-its are one of the most popular sub-categories of fics that i've seen (for the prequels at least) but i see it much more rarely in other fandoms. i know each fandom has their own niches that they dig into but star wars fic writers took one look at this decades long story of people who were doomed from the start and said 'not in my house bitch'

and i'm never tired of it, because there's so many places where just one different action could have changed the story entirely, but didn't

was it over the moment Palpatine succeeded in feeding Anakin's fears and his distrust toward the Jedi? the moment the Sith gained control of the senate? what about when the war started, when the Jedi were made generals of men designed to be their executioners? what about when Dooku left the order? when Qui-Gon Jinn died, leaving barely-knighted Obi Wan Kenobi to raise a child he had no idea how to care for? when the Jedi massacred the Mandalorians at Galidraan, leaving Jango Fett primed (hah) for revenge? when Palpatine, and thus the Sith, first gained influence? when the Jedi were tied to the Republic, all the way back at the Ruusan Reformation?

there are so many little moments that turn into this huge web of cause and effect when you take a step back. and in canon, these characters are dooming themselves while we watch, but what reason do they have to do anything different? they don't know they're in a tragedy - its dramatic irony at its goddamn finest

but there's this thing about decisions: for it to be a choice, there has to be another option. and our heroes make their mistakes because that's what they do, while we aren't privy to that other option, leaving that little what-if. it's a favorite human pastime, to think about what might have been.

we start at episode 4, though, fourty or so years after what you could arguably call the start, and find ourselves watching the dominoes fall in place throughout 1, 2, and 3.

and we can hate the choices, hate the tragedy, hate what happened to our beloved characters, but we knew. we had the luxury of knowing.

it's a love story, it's political intrique, it's sci-fi at its finest, and they were dead from the start.

Hot tip: if your Jedi character says “I have a bad feeling about this” something bad needs to happen.

When anakin says this in the arena in AOTC, like 200 Jedi get killed in the next ten minutes, and a war begins. If the situation looks bad, but is going to resolve itself just fine, your Jedi will have a good feeling about it. You the author, presumably know what is going to happen, and your Jedi’s vague premonitions should act accordingly

I have to say: thank you so much for giving such an elaborate response. I learned so much, and I really appreciate you taking the time to walk me through it.

I do understand how scary it is to stand up for what's right behind enemy lines, but Lise is right: if it is only the victims worrying about it, nothing will be fixed. Reading through the sources, I could argue that he was not explicitly a Nazi, but he was incredibly complacent, the ass. Which I find incredibly aggravating. I mean, sure, he tried to protest, but when that didnt work he just??? rolled over????? It all felt like a half effort, you know? Which is incredibly frustrating. Like, grow a spine. Stand for what you claim to believe in, Otto.

His efforts post-war are what really upsets me. Like, the threat is gone and you dismiss the effect Nazism had on science? You undermine your colleague and friend? You sweep it under the rug? What the heck? This isn't just passive; it's cruel. It's erasing history, and people's suffering, and oh my gosh I'm going to cry because I can't imagine being Lise and finding out about this after everything she did to fight back.

And finally, after, what, 6 reblogs? I finally understand the concern. I think the idea that elves helped progress Nazi atrocities could really tear the Council down (which would be SO interesting to see), but I think this will be a detail that does not affect anything. Maybe it would break down the elves' sense of superiority? But yeah, I think it was just mentioned to prove a point. I dont know what it means for Shannon specifically, but what an educational experience it birthed.

Again, thank you so much. You have such an intelligence about you, and I am glad to have experienced it. I learned so much from you, and I appreciate you spending the time to dispense your knowledge. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Shannon did not think it through when she said elves gave humans technology to build atomic bombs. Why? Because the Nazis... YES THE GOD DAMN NAZIS were the first people to start developing it. meaning the elves gave the Nazi's the tools to start developing it willingly

Hello, friends!

I reworked the ol' "Schweizer Guide to Spotting Tangents" lecture from my comics-teaching days, figured I'd share it here. If you want a free, printable PDF for yourself or to share (especially if you're an educator), you can find it at the bottom of this same lesson on my website.
