So I've had this thought for a while. If anyone's seen the Suicide Squad movie, there was a scene with The Joker and Harley Quinn where he exclaimed how he was an "idea".
And I can't help but think of Batman being the same. An "idea," a myth. A method of suppressing the crimes that have haunted Gotham for years. I thought of Bruce not seeing himself as a person, merely an idea utilised for "the mission."
And how this is pretty angsty for the younger bats. Age consumes everyone if accidents don't. And I can't help but imagine the kids just watching as the man that built their world, that nurtured them the only way he knew best in a world he considered surviving another day as a luxury. They'd watch him push himself to the limit, surpass it, and make new limits just to surpass them again. They'd watch, knowing he could never stop. How he grows older, white hair overtaking the black, crows feet at the edge of his eyes. And he still wears the cowl every night and breaks his limits again and again and again.
It's terrifying. Being in the sidelines of that. Knowing you'd either die trying to live up to that or live the rest of your life like a ghost once you do. And they hate it. How much Batman has shaped Gotham, how his shadow has spread so far and wide they'll never escape it. And they hate it more when they can't even seem to make themselves truly leave. Yeah they'll spend time away, years even, but they'll always come back one way or another.
And every time they do, they know they'll come back to a consumed creature more than they'll come back to their father. I just love to think they can never truly leave because they are the humanity Bruce has lost to the cowl. They come back because they're the human part of him, battered and bruised but with beating hearts more alive than he could ever dream of being again. How he used the meagre humanity he had left to raise these children before it died when they grew independent and left.
Or maybe I'm just obsessed with the trope of Bruce losing himself to the cowl. Idk. I have a test, and I'm sleep deprived.
The joke that the bats see their contingency plans as a form of love is super fucking funny, don't get me wrong but honestly they probably do see it as that cause they just forget to say the second part out loud.
"after I've taken you down, obviously I'd find whatever made you like this and then find the cure."
They come from gotham where mind altering substances are basically everywhere. One of the most profound ways a gothamite could say 'i care about you' is admitting to having a plan to disarm/capture you in the case you go off the deep end, so that they could then get you a cure.
Unfortunately for the bats, no one else thinks like that cause what the actual fucks guys
babysitting your work friend's kid and he asks to look at your patchwork quilt of a skull. wyd. inspired by Super Sons #6!
This is it, this is how the fam should be
Bruce, visibly overwhelmed by Emotions as he watches a ten-year-old Dick goofing around in the batcave: Alfred. Alfred I think I'd die if something happened to him
Alfred: *carefully doesn't say that he thought the same thing when Martha and Thomas placed a newborn Bruce in his arms for the first time because he knows that'll completely destroy the little emotional bandwidth Bruce has*
Robins are weird about stairs. And I think that’s a learned behavior.
(Also, I think Jason knows that his way is not effective in a fight. But, I also think he wouldn’t be able to resist trolling the other Robins.)

Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.
JL finding out bat secrets, but it's in the most simple ways.
Barry: how old do you think Robin is?
Oliver: you met him last week, he's like 12
Barry: yeah but like, he was 14-ish when we started the justice league
Hal: maybe he's an immortal vampire like batman
Nightwing: that's ridiculous
Hal: we have aliens and gods on this team. Why not vampires?!
Wally: can't be immortal if he was 14 then but 12 now
Barry: I've cracked it, there's more than one
Oliver: Your genius amazes and astounds
Barry: So the first Robin should be like 30 by now
Dick: WHAT
Dick: 30! IM 26
Dick now in crisis: I AM NOT THAT OLD YET
Barry: Hold on, wha-
*Wally silently laughing at Dick despite them being almost the same age*
Oliver: Were you Robin?!?!?!
Dick: I can't believe this betrayal! It's called mid 20's and you're no longer invited to Christmas Ollie!
Oliver: I was invited to your Christmas!?!
Wally: Well, not anymore you're not
Hal: Can I come?
Dick: that's up to Batman
Hal:...
Dick: Coward, this is why you aren't invited to family Christmas
Barry: YOURE RELATED TO BATMAN?!
Oliver: I WAS INVITED TO BATMANS FAMILY CHRISTMAS?!?!?!
So happy to be done with another ye olde af WIP.

Okay, We are all used to it and many love the current Bruce, secretive and emotionally constipated... And I know poor communication is a trope in their life at this point...
But, man, sometimes I miss the old Bruce, when it was just Dick and him, and Bruce didn't mind telling people he loved that kid like his own son, who tells Dick that he would rather lose his arms than him, that he couldn't even think of replacing him, who played with him and that was more important than anything.
I miss them.
