They're So Cute!

So I have read several people complaining that they can't be expected to know the "unwritten rules" of fandom. So here's what I wish people knew:

Fanfiction is fiction.

Fictional people are not real.

Fictional people do not have rights.

Fictional people cannot be abused.

Reading or writing about something does not mean the desire to do or support it in the real world.

If I find art upsetting/triggering/disgusting/outraging/unpleasant/squicky/distressing/offensive, it is on me not to read it, not the creators and hosts to remove it.

Curate your own experience. The back buttons exist for a reason.

If you don't trust yourself to do that, get someone you trust to do it for you.

Fandom is an adult space. Adults create and own and host fandom spaces. If minors want to participate, then the onus is on them and their parents/guardians/trusted adults to ensure they participate appropriately, not on strange adults to stop being adults.

You often don't know the assault status or mental health status or neurotype or race or nationality or religion or gender or sexuality or age of a creator or consumer, and they do not have to disclose to you to justify their fantasy.

AO3 is not a safe space. It is not intended to be a safe space. Proceed accordingly.

Just because you don't like something or find it offensive doesn't mean it is a "problem" that "has to be dealt with".

Most characters in anime are not white.

There is no onus on you to reblog or share anything.

Everyone makes mistakes in fandom and is less than their best self sometimes.

Persistent pseudonyms encourage long term relationships.

Ship wars are stupid.

Someone else enjoying things does not impact on your own enjoyment of other things.

Tagging and warning is a courtesy, not a requirement. Assume any fic might contain untagged content.

Rating is an imprecise art, not a science.

Don't hassle IP creators.

Most people who are in fandom are hoping to make connections based on a shared passion.

Trying to profit from transformative fanworks puts us all at risk.

No one is obligated to share your head canon or fanon.

Being kind rarely fails to pay off.

It is okay to block and remove people who make your experience unpleasant. You don't have to placate them. (Learn from my mistakes).

Britpicking is a good thing.

You don't have to justify why you like a canon/pairing/trope/kink. Sometimes navel gazing is fun, but you don't have an obligation to explain yourself, especially to strangers. I share the overwhelming desire to refute an unfair accusation, but the people accusing you are rarely doing so in good faith, so you're batting a losing wicket.

If you aren't mature enough to take responsibility for your online experiences, you aren't mature enough to be in fandom spaces.

Honestly, no clue what this is supposed to be from but I remember this Zombie apocalypse concept my cousin came up with and heres a basic summary of it.

Its the early 50s and a new pill has just come out, it says that it can increase masculinity in men and so since its the sexist 50s its a big hit. However this pill has the side effect of long term use causing the user to be turned into a zombie(dont remember how, she didnt explain it very well), and since all men are zombies now the women have to rise up and find a cure.

Yeah, thats kind of it. Also this is inspired by a verson of Sweet Caroline but with gunshots. So.... Yeah

Aidan Gallagher has a great voice, y'all are just mean-

Thats right, I said what I said. I listened to his music and honestly its great. There's defiantly room for improvement but over all he has a beautiful voice and shows great potential. But he's 16 years old, he's still learning and I want him to continue making music. Comments are turned off on his videos which I can only guess is because people keep spamming him with rude and mean comments. Even if you dont like him that doesnt mean you can shit on his work and make fun of him. His music isnt perfect obviously in fact here are some of my critiques as a singer myself

My main criticism is that he over stylizes his singing voice, he sings in cursive basically and it does get a little bit on my nerves but he's learning. He's still a kid and that's just how he sings, give him time and he'll learn to grow out of it, hell I used to sing like that. Thats really all I have to say on fixing his music

Now we get onto people not liking his personality or just,, him in general. You dont have to like him but good lord, once again I point out that he is still 16 and in fact, he's my fucking age. Just be nicer to the kid because god damn some of y'all are being total pricks. Have some picks of our boy because I said so

Okay so, this I just remembered this and I wanna share it

I used to live in a crumby and small apartment building. I was roughly 13 going on 14 at the time, this was only a temporary due to my family moving to another state later that year. We had most things a creepy old house did, old musty church smell, cobwebs in every corner and even a spooky cement basement. This is where the story begins, we were nearing the end of our time living in this creepy ass house and you damn well know I was happy. Except, a accident happened, remember how I said this place was old? Well heres what happened, the basement flooded(which our insurance handled dont worry) but what really hurt me emotionally was the fact that we had a lot of old family keep-sakes in there. We had school projects from 10 years ago, mothers day gifts, fathers day gifts and even my personal drawings I made as a small kid(like 3-5 age range). In one swift swoop... It was all water clogged and ruined. Heres the kicker, these werent things we could get back, we had family photos that we couldn't get back. It crushed me and the rest of my family, hell even while throwing drenched papers that would have definitely grown mold I could see my mom crying. But honestly, I'm at peace with it now, I have thousands of drawings and presents stashed away somewhere(I'm kind of a hoarder okay?). Basically I learned a pretty good lesson, even when you loose things you cant get back you have to move on, you cant get stuck at a certain point or you'll never make any progress. Anyways I'm tired and my ice cream is melting, good day.
