im rewatching the sundrop special and its still absolutely infuriating to hear them villainize varian so much, while casually claiming the kings actions as bad, but with good intentions. like bro. dude. the kings action of putting HIS family above everyone else kick started everything.

Me: Okay, but hear me out, you two. What Varian did was wrong, but if you had done that from the beginning instead of just as Varian said, abandoning and vilifying him, we literally wouldn’t be here right now.

Fred, you blatantly ignored a threat to your whole kingdom just because “magic makes me angry”. Rapunzel, you just abandoned your friend and never once went to check up on him after you had to break your promise to him when he clearly really needed you. And even once you discovered the truth about his father, you still left him instead of just going out there and being like “Let us help you” as a show of good faith. Then, as somehow the whole country was being told he attacked royalty and that making him unable to turn to anybody else for help, you both jumped straight to “he’s such a villain” when he ran with the few dwindling options he had left to him to try and save his father. You don’t get to act like you’re being lenient on him here.

Seriously, if you’d just made the effort to help him up front, we literally wouldn’t be here right now!! Don’t bother with these barn doors, the horse has already bolted. All three of you created this mess.

Loves adventure (from what we’ve seen in the pilot) but doesn’t like danger when it’s not planned danger.

ie: Home is home and home is safe and it must stay that way.

Spiritual brother to Marco Diaz in the Safe Kid club.

Reads bus timetables.

His hat is not actually glued to his head like I thought it might be.

Buggers off in Funso’s Funzone to do his own thing apparently.

Part-time Dad.

Freezes in the face of certain death.

Likes when reality becomes some weird kind of Hyper Dream.

Is still an angel.

Buggers off when his brothers are busy breaking the money bin and uncovering his families secrets. Apparently.

Low-key scared of Webby.

Still Dads her.

Doesn’t like when people lick things.

Keeps a level head when danger lurks near.

Knows what parts of town are sketchy and to stay away.

Keeps a level head in general until someone threatens to ban him from something or throw him off a cliff.

Okay, you little shit, I’m going to explain all this nice and simple for you.

He fucking knows.

He knows that life sucks. He knows that his happy fantasyland isn’t real. That no one actually cares about the things he does.

Do you think he’s somehow stupid?

At some point, though, it just doesn’t make sense to be cynical anymore.

Because while everything might be shit, you’re only making yourself miserable at the end of the day by loudly complaining about it. Instead of doing this counterproductive, vindictive bullshit, try fixing things every once in a while? Maybe if you act like the person you want the world to be full of, it might actually improve? It certainly can’t hurt.

This is the primary reason I relate to David so deeply. It’s not always smart to be cynical, and it’s not always naive to be sentimental or optimistic. Leave the happy people alone, Max.
