Over The Past 500 Years, France Has Been A Major Power With Strong Cultural, Economic, Military And Political

Over the past 500 years, France has been a major power with strong cultural, economic, military and political influence in Europe and around the world. During the 17th and 18th centuries, France colonised great parts of North America and Southeast Asia; during the 19th and early 20th centuries, France built the second largest colonial empire of the time, including large portions of North, West and Central Africa, Southeast Asia, and many Caribbean and Pacific Islands.

______________

Bastille Day is the name given in English-speaking countries to the French National Day, which is celebrated on the 14th of July each year. In France, it is formally called La Fête Nationale (The National Celebration) and commonly Le quatorze juillet (the fourteenth of July). It commemorates the 1790 Fête de la Fédération, held on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789; the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille fortress-prison was seen as a symbol of the uprising of the modern nation, and of the reconciliation of all the French inside the constitutional monarchy which preceded the First Republic, during the French Revolution. Festivities and official ceremonies are held all over France.

Death Is Unfair

Despite being the oldest of the four, Benjamin Tallmadge died last.

.

.

.

It was shocking to say the least that Olivia never got to outlive their dad. It was said that she died of expired poison. They thought that she would be fine because she survived it during the war. But the poison had consumed her frail and weak body that was caused by childbirth, and for not eating and sleeping at the correct times.

The poison was actually meant for Alexander, but she drank his glass, as she had done over the years. The man who poisoned the glass was Michael John Key, a loyalist.

She sat through the first Cabinet Meeting, about establishing the first U.S. bank for hours.

Washington, Eliza, Alexander, and himself were the only ones present when she died. Olivia gave Washington the golden locket he gave her after the Schuylkill River Incident, gave Eliza her and John Laurens’ wedding rings, gave Alexander their family’s ring and diary, and gave Ben the sun hair comb and the golden band the Culper Spy Ring had during the war, she told him to give the sapphire bracelet Lafayette gave her back to him.

“I’ll see all you on the other side, John, my love, I’m coming.” were her last words.

Of course, Laurens wasn’t her love, it was Lafayette. She only married him to conceal the rumors and suspicion about John and Alexander in a romantic relationship. The plan was for them to act in love in public, but go to their paramours behind closed doors.

The nation had stopped working for days until the will reading was done. The funeral ceremony was beautiful and lots of people attended. Olivia was given a military funeral because her rank in the army was Madam General and was a big factor in keeping the army alive and well. She was buried in Trinity Church Cemetery under a monument.

Key was later hanged the very next day for assassination of the Vice President.

Alexander was never the same after her death.

She was just 38 or 36 years old, it depends on which birthdate one believed she was born on.

.

.

.

Alexander died next in the stupidest way possible.

A duel.

Vice President (he doesn’t deserve that title) Aaron Burr was mad at Alexander because he supported Jefferson, a man that he despised since the beginning, just to keep him from winning.

In the end, Alexander aimed his pistol at the sky and Burr shot him in the ribs. He died the next day (47 or 49), Eliza and Angelica by his side. They don’t know his last words because he couldn’t stop talking.

Typical ‘lex.

.

.

.

Lafayette died next.

He visited America once more.

When he arrived, he immediately went to Olivia and Alexander’s tombstones. Ben helped comfort him and helped Lafayette travel America. He completed the task his sister and first love had given the former Head of Intelligence to give the sapphire bracelet back to Lafayette as a parting gift in person.

They continued writing letters when he left for France until his death in 1834.

.

.

.

Now on his deathbed, Ben can only think of his family being reunited once more.

“Lyria walked in the Senate House. Everyone went silent. She was admiring the place to see if anything changed over the past year. Granted, she was in a coma before waking up thanks to Hera or Juno...” (The Wizarding Ten-The Lost Beads of Chaos)

Hi, I’m starting a crossover between Percy Jackson and Harry Potter (Marauders Era). It follows the main character Lyria Eclair Graham de Vanily through the Lightning Thief to her death. It is up on Wattpad, Lyria the Demiwitch and Caught Between Two Wars.

I Think The Canadian Military Is Greatly Underestimated Sometimes- Our Air Force In WW2 Was Tasked In

i think the canadian military is greatly underestimated sometimes- our air force in WW2 was tasked in hunting for U-boats in the atlantic, but the most important area of operations was in europe where 48 canadian squadrons served!

one of our greatest contributions was thanks to the formation of No.6 group, a royal canadian air force formation within bomber command. “many canadian airmen fought in the battle of britain, north africa, italy and the normandy invasian. roughly 17,00 died, the majority of this while serving with bomber command.” we were badass ok

The Time When Olivia Got Drunk

George ‘We are outgunned!’ Washington 3rd POV

Olivia burst into the room where all the generals of the Continental Army were having dinner. She leaned over the door frame, looking like she was about to burst out laughing. George knew straight away that something was wrong, and so did the other people in the room.

“Did you know that Xander, Jack-Jack, and Benji are doing extracurricular activities?” She giggled while saying the last three words that suggest that the three men mentioned weren’t doing anything innocent, “I always thought that my brother would be a top, turns out he was a bottom, and a submissive one too,” Olivia leaned forward and in a loud whisper she said, “If you know what I mean.”

‘She’s drunk’ George thought, ‘The last person I would ever think to be drunk is Olivia. Oh sweet Lord help me.’ George had dealt with a drunk Alexander Hamilton before and sweet Jesus it was not a fun task.

‘Both Olivia and Alexander’s Nevis accent became more prominent when they were frustrated, drunk, annoyed, or speaking in another language,’ he noted.

Olivia half walked half ran towards him and almost fell to the ground face-first if George hadn’t caught her in time.

“Olivia, how did you get drunk at this hour and how did you even get it?” he questioned her as he sat her down in his chair. Her face looked like she was concentrating, but all he got was a shrug.

“Did you know that Xander almost got decapitated?” That question took everyone off guard.

  “Miss Hamilton-”

  “Olivia.”

“Alright, Olivia” Benedict Arnold emphasized her given name, “did you say that your brother, Alexander Hamilton, almost got decapitated?”

She nodded yes, “I call it the melo-melay-something along those lines-”

  “You mean a melon?”

“I said that, you big blue bear.” Olivia rudely replied to Arnold, “Anyways, I call it ‘The Meloy Incident’.” He heard his friend sighed exasperatedly when she pronounced ‘melon’ wrong, while the other generals laughed at his newfound nickname.

“Xander somehow had gotten stuck at the hole thingy of the guillotine and the blade started to fall, I have somehow gotten him unstuck from underground and replaced his head with a melony. Any questions?” She asked everyone, looking innocent as nothing ever happened.

George needed to get Olivia to bed before she started rambling on about other things, specifically about the fact the twins were actually his biological children.

“Let’s go, daughter, I’ll take you to your bed to rest,” he announced.

“Don’t...” she yawned. That one sentence pierced his heart greater than any musket, if Olivia were to repeat that again, his heart won’t be able to take it.

“I don’t have a real father,” she finished. George had nearly dropped the tea he was making for her. Real father, he wasn’t a real father to her. Sure he hadn’t been the best when it comes to parental affections, but he wasn’t the worst.

“He left Jamie, Xander, Mama, and me when back in ‘65. I like to think he’s dead, but…” Olivia had trailed off. After a few beats of agonizing silence, she gave him a crumpled piece of paper and told him to read it.

  “Olivia,

It has been years since I left you behind with your brothers and mother, but I need your help. I have been receiving less and less and I need you to send money. I know you have them because you have been working in the Continental Army for a few months. Heed my warning, if you do not give me what I want, I will come there myself and give you your lessons when I was still with your good-for-nothing mother and brothers.

Your Father In Blood,

  James Hamilton Sr.”

Silence had stretched for seconds, minutes, George didn’t know, but he knew once he gets this James Hamilton, he’ll have him flogged immediately. He could tell by the other generals that they were thinking the same thing, especially those with who Olivia was friends.

  But he had to know.

George needed to know if his twins got hurt by this thing.

He couldn’t even call the man-no coward a human.

No, anyone who hurts a child is not a human being.

  But the devil’s followers.

“Olivia, please tell me that he didn’t hit you,” he asked her in a calm voice, but everyone else in the room could tell it was to not startle the girl.

When the older of the Hamilton twins looked down and didn’t say anything, every man was in an uproar, including Lee, who was not as heartless. George gave Olivia the cup of tea to prevent him from throwing it to a nearby wall.

“He didn’t want to raise a good-for-nothing bastard daughter. He tried to hurt Xander, who was the youngest of the three of us, but Jamie and I tried to protect him as hard as we could. When we were beaten to unconsciousness, he would move on to Xander.” she said, voice void of emotions.

George had retrieved the empty teacup, “When was the last time you ate because when I lifted you up to sit on my chair, you were surprisingly light.”

Though Olivia’s eyes were unfocused and unseeing, she looked around her, as if she was afraid that someone else would hear what she was about to say, “Probaby...fivedaysago.” she said it so fast George had almost missed it.

“I didn’t eat for five days because...the army needed it better than a measly woman, besides I’ve been doing it since I was a teen.” Olivia tried (and failed) to reassure them.

“No one cares about me, not even Xander. I’ve been stealing his limelight since I got here.” She tilted her head up, and he saw her eyes glistening with tears.

“I care, Olivia, I care about you a lot.” George contradicted her statement.

She looked fearful at him, like prey to a predator, “Don’t tell anyone, but I plan to leave because I don’t want anyone to be burdened with me.”

As she yawned, the men in the room exchanged looks of helplessness, pity, and concern. Just how did Hamilton Sr. affect Olivia to feel that way. Didn’t she see that they loved her in a familial way? Didn’t she know the rest of the army sees her as a sister to the elders and mother to the young? Didn’t she see that her leaving would be an emotional blow to them?

“I’m a nobody, always has been, always will be. I don’t want anyone to be mad at me because they’ll hurt me somehow. Sometimes, I’m scared of His Exlency because the anger he displays looks like James’.” That sentence broke his heart to a million pieces.

His girl, his only girl, was afraid of him.

  Him.

  HIM!

He is her father, and she’s scared of him.

  His anger.

That’s what she was afraid of.

Oh when he finds that poor excuse of an adopted father, he’ll have him personally killed by George.

She leaned forward to the table and used her arms as pillows and promptly fell asleep.

He quickly tucked Olivia in her bed, which was, thankfully, in the same building they were in, and slipped back into the dining room.

The generals were contemplating about Olivia and what she said. In the end, they agreed to never speak of that again and acted as if nothing had happened.

“Run! To the bunker!”

image

Last days of the uprising. The greatest and the most despicable all leaps for freedom. He swore he voted against it and yet his honour did not let him abandon the men and women he had fought for for the last five years… and of course he joined the fights. How could he not? It was his duty. Somehow, on those chilly September days he found himself reminiscing about his life and his choices. The good and the bad, the ones he regretted and the ones he had found joy in. Just an old man reflecting on his decisions even though they did not matter in the larger perspective. In the end it all led to one September day. When t h a t  d a y came, paradoxically, he was and he was not ready. And yet, without a second thought he led his men through the flames into the bunker, as the sky fell on him. A single foolish Pole for whom the world had truly ended.

ah yes, did i mention he literally died in ‘44?

Let’s Just Hope

I walked in Ben’s tent where I found him lying on his bed with a letter near him. I knew it was from the turncoat General Benedict Arnold. Ben knew that I was in the room, but he made no acknowledgement. But I knew that he knew because of a very small minuscule of a nod towards me.

“What did he write, Ben?” I asked him, he knew full well when I used his more common nickname than ‘Benji’ when I’m serious.

He wordlessly passed me the letter and when I finished reading it, I felt the same rush of anger towards the traitor.

As I know you to be a man of sense, I am conscious you are, by this time, fully of opinion that the real interest and happiness of America consists in a reunion with Great Britain. I have taken a commission in the British Army and invite you to join me with as many men as you can bring over with you. If you think it proper to embrace my offer you shall have the same rank you now hold, in the cavalry I am to raise.

“And I am guessing that he wrote to you too, my dear Lily of the Valley?” Ben asked, using my other nickname than Lily. ‘Lily of the Valley’ or delicacy, kindness, good luck, happiness, sadness, pain through death, serenity, unity, and hope. While Lily means beauty, rebirth, purity, commitment, and fresh life.

“Yes, he has, my Celamits,” I answered, using my other usual nickname for him which means mental beauty or intelligence.

I quickly handed him the letter, which I hope to burn later. I don’t want to be associated with Arnold any longer.

Olivia,

I write to you because you have so much potential that the British would love to use other than the Continentals. They haven’t given you any money for the years that you have kept their army alive. You have given them everything of you, but they gave you nothing in return. If you defect to the right side, I will do everything in my power to give you your own command, something the old fox had never given you. “Too inexperienced” my crippled leg, you have excellent battle skills and strategy, what more does he want?

I know that you will be a turncoat because like Benjamin Tallmadge, you had the chance to kill me, but you didn’t. You have the best aim I had ever seen on a person, so to you to miss me was a sign.

Heed my warning that the Continentals will throw you out as soon as they are done with you, and when they do, you know what to do.

Your Real Brother and Family,

Benedict Arnold

“He’s insane to even think that you’ll ever defect, you are one of the most loyal Patriots I have ever known!”

“I know!” I had to stop Ben from ranting because we have a bigger problem at hand, “How do we tell Papa?”

“We don’t, until for now. He’s been through a lot right now, and he doesn’t need more. Besides, it's not like we’ll ever defect.” He was right about everything: Papa is stressed out because one of his fine Generals defected that could catalyze the alliance with France, he lost one of his close friends, confidant, and brother, and Ben and I will never defect because we’re loyal to the cause.

“Let’s just hope that Arnold’s defection won’t cost us so much.” I wondered out loud. I heard Ben humming as if agreeing with me. Let’s just hope.
