september 4th: favorite study snack!
this picture may be a bit misleading lol bc my favorite study snack is actually chips ! it takes some effort for me to eat healthy food š¬ so chips (specifically salty kettle chips) are perfect
september 5th: how did this week go for you?
um this week went alright. iām really starting to feel like i need a break, but i donāt think iāll be getting one anytime soon. my grades are good, but i had a nightmare last night that i had a B haha
september 3rd: how do you take your tea?
umm i drink chamomile tea w/honey when iām sick/have a sore throat :) but other than that, iām not a huge tea person (although i do want to try more tea - iāve rly only had chamomile & iced tea sooo)
i went to pick up textbooks today and got to meet some of my teachers ! it was awkward but nice to see them in person
p.s. this is a coconut cake my brother made - it was v good in case youāre wondering šš¤¤
september 2nd: how do you take your coffee?
not at all lol. um iām not a huge fan of coffee but i really wish i was š
i have been so unproductive lately. idk i just do not feel like doin my schoolwork :/ itās a really big jump from doing no work at all to constantly studying. iām learning a lot tho and my grades are great so ! tryna stay positive
here is a blank notes template for apush and a picture of my adorable little dog laying in the sun š„°š„°
september 1st! : favorite school memory!
i would have to say the entirety of my ap world history class last year. i had this group of friends in there that i loved very much :) also the teacher was disorganized but when she managed to lecture about one thing, i learned SO much
here is my lil yoga corner! i took up yoga during quarantine and i acquired enough stuff to want a box to keep it all in :)
august 31st: what is your favorite thing about school?
definitely the actual learning. i love the feeling when iāve realized iāve learned something new and i can now share that with other people! with online school tho, i really like the fact that i now have the time to exercise, do yoga, meditate, and otherwise take care of myself
august 30th: what is your plan for the upcoming week?
i never have much of a plan to be honest. i just do the assignments that come my way. i do need to start studying for the psat very soon š¤·š»āāļø
p.s. i did my yoga outside today and it was v nice š & these are my notes before my color coding ! itās weird looking at them like that, they look so plain
august 29th: how did this week go for you?
um it didnāt go amazingly, if iām being honest. i was very productive last weekend, so i guess i felt like i could take a break this week? which just wasnāt a good mindset to be in. iāve kinda gotten behind on my work, and i even missed some school on friday. hopefully iāll be better next week!
p.s. this is a strawberry lemonade with grape popping bubbles that i got today š„°
august 28th: tea or coffee?
iām not a huge fan of either ! š¬ i do enjoy the occasional chamomile tea, but i really like these little chocolates for some caffeine! i also love mtn dew and energy drinks, but i try not to drink them too much, bc theyāre obv not the greatest for you
august 27th: what is your favorite season? why?
winter! definitely. i just love the vibes - i love sweaters and sweatpants and cozying up indoors with a good book. and also, of course, snow ( although it doesnāt snow much where i live :/ ). also christmas easily beats any other holiday ! ššØ
a sunset pic i took a few days ago āØ
first day (for me) of @spell-studies fall 2020 challenge! imma answer the ?s i missed tho
august 24th: what classes are you taking?
AP English, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Statistics, AP Physics, AP U.S. History, Spanish III, and Honors Pre-Calculus! holy shit that looks terrible when i write it all down
august 25th: what time does your alarm go off?
6 am š, 5:30 am on mondays, & i donāt set an alarm on the weekends
august 26th: do you check your phone when you first wake up?
yeahhh, i go on it for like 3 mins & respond to any texts that look important (& read tweets from my favs that i missed)
yay i love challenges! iāll be attempting this starting today :)
I love making challenges, and I thought that having daily prompts would be the best way to help keep track of the days!Ā I tried to pick fairly easy ones that way they are fun and lighthearted!Ā Ā
Here are the parameters of the challenge!Ā The prompts will run Monday through Friday, so that weekends can be off days if you wish.Ā If you would like to also do the weekends as well I have prompts for those as well but they wonāt be numbered rather they will be underĀ āEnd of week oneā, etc. Each prompt will have a corresponding date that way everyone can keep track!Ā Post daily or sum it all up on one big post (weekly, monthly, the whole thing!Ā Ā
This challenge is about having fun and staying connected during the upcoming quarantined semester.Ā I know the prospect of entirely online school looks like an absolute drag to me, so letās do something to stay connected through it all!Ā Hope all you lovelies enjoy!Ā Please tag me and the challenge too! Iāll be following #QuarantineFallStudyChallenge and #heyspell-studies feel free to @ me too!Ā Alright!Ā Down to the dates!

80. Friday, Dec. 11th: Is it really already over?!Ā What did you learn during this challenge? What did you like about this challenge?
After being in college for a year, Iāve learned that some things that people told me were true and others were false. Now this is purely in my own experience so maybe I will prove to be wrong when you attend. Also, I am a commuter student so I donāt have any advice on dorms/apartments and how to deal with them.Ā
So seeing as half of my classes are in person this semester, I thought other people may be in the same situation as I am.Ā
emails will either be āGood Afternoon Professor Smith,ā or āhey johnā ā whatever it is keep it short and to the point
the only profs that I actually callĀ āProfessorā are from gen eds/100 level courses. everyone else I address by their first name and none of them have a problem with it.
first day of class nerves are real hereās how to lessen it- scout out classes before hand, eat as you normally would on that day to avoid feeling sick, if itās that bad just leave five minutes into class (chances are itās not) youāre a college student you can leave, itās not as bad as what you may think
KEEP THE SYLLABUSĀ it is your guide
8am classes will become hell as progress through the semester bc you wonāt want to get up
your MWF classes may know about your TTH classes. Just so you know
donāt sit near the windows and look up to find the AC unit and donāt sit under it. You will be cold.
ice breakers are horrible and no one likes them, find a fact about yourself that you can expand on and use it for every class.
some classes will put you through your paces, go to office hours if needed
some profs are just unhelpful. Find another prof that would be willing to help
student tutors are not helpful at all
start studying for an exam at least a week early and get into that habit
raising your hand in class to ask a question is powerful because that means youāve gotten far enough to actually understand what is going on
some profs wonāt let you use a graphing calculator on an exam, bring a less complicated one with you as well.
some profs wonāt let you use a calculator at all. sharpen up those basic math skills
if you have a genuinely bad prof, report them to the head prof of that department. If there is enough students who say the same thing they can take care of things :) (exception- tenured profs)
take public speaking your first semester and take it seriously. It really does help.
time between classes can be used for watching YouTube, studying, or taking a nap. Use it wisely.
always bring a water bottle and a granola bar with you anywhere you go
first semester may be exactly like high school but second semester wonāt be as you will get harder classes
all nighters are not necessary if you study a little everyday
no one cares what you wear. HOWEVER if you want to be easily identified as a freshman on the first day, dress up really nicely. I just wore a school shirt and jeans, but I saw hoards of freshman girls with dresses and heels walking to class
speaking of clothes, I wouldnāt recommend wearing short sleeve shirts and shorts until you know the climate of the rooms youāll be in. But thatās your preference
hand sanitizer. even after covid please continue to use it. There are sick people all the time on campus without covid
I believe an electronic writing device to be better than any paper or pens. Youāll have everything with you at all times without worrying about losing things
PDF scanner app
FIND A RELIABLE BACKPACK not a trendy one, a nice reliable comfy backpack with plenty of room
you donāt have to meet your best friends within the first day, week, month, or semester into college. Theyāll come, it will be okay
you may make a friend that you later find out that they are horrible. End it quickly, ghost if you have to
if you feel lonely bc you have no friends bc you went to college on your own, please talk to someone about it. it does help even if it is a prof who asked you how your day is in private (not in front of the whole class)
everyone will think you know what youāre doing if you look confident. Doesnāt matter if youāre walking to class, doing work, or even asking questions. Theyāll assume youāre higher in your education than you really are. Iāve had profs come up to me asking if I was a sophomore or a junior (I was a freshman in my first semester)
everyone and their mother will talk to you during the first week
no one will tell you about specific things (such as expenses, scheduling, etc.) seek it out if you find something you donāt understand
profs will tell you about due dates and exam dates, it may be brief but theyāll tell you
noise cancelling headphones are a must
group work is hell even if you know the members. my engineering prof says to make a contract that every one signs stating what they will do. present it to the prof if someone fails to do something.
stay away from populated areas that most people will go to such as libraries/tables/cafe. (covid related)
meal plans can be useless but sometimes youāre required to have one
Online classes:
a desk is best but sitting on the floor is a nice change of scenery
it is true that you should have a separate area for studying/classes but not everyone can do that. Try to angle where you sit either out of a window or face a wall opposite to where you sleep.
getting another monitor for my desk has been really helpful
tip from my computer science prof- look away from your screen periodically, humans are adapted to see far distances better and it relaxes the muscles. hang something up across your room to read every now and then to reduce eye strain.Ā
blue light blocking glasses can help reduce headachesĀ
you can do classes in bed if you want, I have and it hasnāt caused any problems
PDF scanner app
a planner is a must in this case to track when assignments are due
emails, emails, emails. All day.
my school has told me they canāt require us to turn on our cameras, so I donāt. even during exams. (Itās an invasion of privacy)
if you have to turn on your camera, donāt have a distracting background
turn in assignments one day early just incase something should happen where you have to email a prof saying that youāre unable to turn it in.
Iāll probably add to this as I think of things but for now⦠here is all I know
thank you so much @stoicproductivityā for tagging me!

if you realize youāve been studying for hours: grab a snack to refuel your body and watch a sitcom to refuel your brain. then back to the books.
if youāre feeling stressed out: take some deep breaths, text your friends, maybe stare at a wall for a few minutes. gather yourself.
if you canāt seem to focus: get moving and get outside. take out the garbage, check your mail box, maybe walk your dog. just get moving and get fresh air. itāll help bring you back.
if thereās something else going on in your life and you canāt get it off your mind: write down whatās going through your head, sort of like a diary entry. itāll help you work things out.
if youāre just mentally and physically exhausted: set a timer for 25-30 minutes and take a nap. any longer and youāll hit REM and youāll wake up feeling just as tired. once you wake up, get some caffeine in you.
if the material is boring as hell: find another way to study. see if thereās a crash course video online about it or draw out what youāre trying to learn in diagrams and pictures to make it fun.
if people around you wonāt shut up: listen to some music. soundtrack and classical music is always good because they wonāt absorb you as much as music with lyrics. white noise (like ocean waves, rain sounds, etc.) also works.
if you only half understand a concept: call/message a friend whoās not in the class and try to teach the material to them. this will help you mentally work through the material and will help you remember it as well.

i havenāt had motivation to post in a while but .... here is a picture i took of this wonderful book i am reading
day 27 - study in groups or study alone?
study alone for sure! i just canāt.... concentrate when around other ppl. it takes a lot of mental energy to just be there, so like i canāt really learn.
day 26 - whatās the hardest decision youāve ever had to make?
umm one that i am still trying to make! iām trying to decide between doing a nursing program or going for valedictorian. i would have to put practically ALL my time into either one, and i just donāt know which one to pick :( as for past decisions, i would say having to pick between continuing orchestra or doing ap biology as a freshman (which is rare at my school). i chose ap bio but my heart still breaks every time i hear a violin/viola š„ŗ (also OMG iām listening to music rn, and the second i typed that, a cello started playing š)
p.s. that was the sunset yesterday!
day 25 - whatās your go-to study method? are there cases in which you wouldnāt use it?
my go-to study method is flashcards! i use it for prettyyy much everything, but definitely not math. for math, i watch videos on khanacademy as refreshers, and do their practice problems. for anatomy and geography, i play games i find online. so i def donāt use them for everything, but flashcards are extremely useful to me!
day 24 - whatās on your desk? do you function best in a tidy or messy space?
here are very realistic photos of my desk ! i didnāt edit them or anything and i didnāt clean my desk after doing hw so ! um i would say itās a good combo of tidy and messy. i have lots of things out, but i donāt have loads of trash or papers soooo yeah :)
day 23 - if you could travel anywhere, regardless of money or other limitations, where would you go? what would you do?
i would travel all across Europe and just see everything i could š„ŗ i desperately want to visit Europe, particularly the UK, France, Spain, and Greece.
day 22 - do you use color-coding? explain your system!
yes!! i have a very elaborate system :) red is for circling notes that go together. yellow is for definitions. green is for numbers/formulas/dates/equations. teal is for highlighting subtitles. light blue is for people/names. darker blue is for sub-subtitles š purple is for important things. pink is for examples. red PEN is for the most important things. and lastly, purple pen is for parts of the body (i rly only use that for anatomy lol). this may seem like a lot of work, but itās really not, and it genuinely helps me find stuff within my (usually) very detailed notes. :)
p.s. sry for the super dark picture, i have trash lighting in my room
day 21 - can you play any instruments? how long have you been playing?
i play the viola! iām not in my schoolās orchestra anymore, but iāve been playing for like 5 years now!
p.s. i skipped days like 18-20 i think? i forgot š¬
p.p.s. i got mildliners recently ! i love them so much already
day 17 - what does home mean to you?
iām not really sure. i feel at home when traveling. when i start to get comfortable in whatever place iām visiting - thatās home to me :)
day 16 - whatās in your bag / backpack?
here is a complete list of everything in my backpack lmao:
two mechanical pencils
a wooden pencil
tissues
tampons
hand sanitizer
hand lotion
a general folder for all my classes
whatever novel iām reading atm
two pencil sharpeners
my student id & schedule
a pencil bag w/pens, highlighters, & led
a pencil bag w/colored pencils, markers, & glue
chapstick
a pad & liners
lens cleaner
a portable game
a granola bar
cold medicine & ibuprofen
my airpods & extra earbuds
braces wax
cough drops
my house key
a scientific calculator
my epi pens & inhaler (yes i have allergies and asthma š¤¦š»āāļøš)
and a large pack of gum
i am deeply sorry for that very comprehensive list, but i had fun with it š
day 15 - did you make any / have you kept up with your new years resolutions?
decently! at the beginning of this, i said i wanted to drink more water, eat intuitively, and stop procrastinating. iāve actually been doing pretty well! i drink more than one water bottle a day, and iāve been completing everything the day itās assigned. buuuut i have been having problems with food. i have a horrible relationship with food and donāt know how to change that :/ at least iāve been eating more fruits and vegetables š
p. s. i took these pics at meow wolf in santa fe!
day 14 - show us how you keep cosy in the cold months!
my bed š„° alsoooo hot showers/baths and warm pajamas
day 13 - how do you deal with stress?
um not well lol. but fr i journal, once a week in a physical journal, and everyday in one on my phone. i stress-eat š¬ i take naps and give myself motivational speeches. still not very good at dealing with stress tho. also thatās ^ the sunrise this morning :)
day 12 - do you listen to music when studying? show us your top 3 study songs or favorite study playlist!
i really only listen to tame impala while studying, idk why but their music is the perfect combination of upbeat and chill ?? that makes no sense, but theyāre really good to work to
