:3 I Love This Person And How They Worded This Bc They So Real

:3 I love this person and how they worded this bc they so real

Usually I just reblog these kinds of posts and don't really add much of my own thoughts to them because I don't want to come across selfish or rude, but today I had something I wanted to put into words:

I did see a post once (can't remember it word for word and damn if I could find it; with the search engine on this site...even though I'm sure I reblogged it...) that basically said that people need to actually consider what is a "good" ratio of kudos/hits/comments and all, and if I remember correctly it used popular posts from social media sites and popular influencers and stuff like that to make the point.

While I do think there's some merit to that (not everyone who reads will comment even if they like it; sometimes people forget or they want to hit the kudos at the end of a multichapter fic or something. and sometimes people just don't feel comfortable putting their thoughts out there, and that's totally fine) I think the post (in my opinion, and not as criticism to the op) was a bit too focused on the "consumer/creator" relationship of social media. To explain a bit better: I don't want comments because I want to be popular or want my work to be super popular. It's not that I'm obsessed with numbers or think my worth is based on numbers. Fandom is voluntary, and it's for fun, and it's supposed to be enjoying what you love and sharing it with others who love it. So, basically, when a fic gets very little interaction in terms of kudos or comments, sure it's not the important part and I maybe didn't write it for everyone, but....

It would be like working really hard to make something for fun, say a quilt or something like that. And I am by no means a quilter. I don't do it for money. I'd be a total beginner. But I would put my time and effort into it and the end product would be my first quilt. Being proud of myself and happy with how it turned out, I take it and show it to my friends, not to brag, but to say "hey, look what I made! I did this thing I'm super happy about" and then they just. Stare at me and the quilt with a blank expression for a few minutes, and then they turn around and walk away without saying anything.

And I think most people would understand how that might make it difficult for me to feel good about continuing to quilt, let alone showing/sharing what I've made to others.

Fanfic isn't social media influencers trying to be the most popular person on the site. It's people trying to share the little projects they've made as hobbies with other people.
