i know we already hate him but i really want to emphasise how much pat's dad fucks him up with this. all his validation is strongly controlled by whether or not pat adheres to his ideas and codes of acceptable behaviour.
he kept insisting pat uphold his image and reputation when he's in class with the engineering professors, forced him to think of pran as a rival even for the freshy contest, and is now trying to guilt him into quitting the play. the second pat puts one toe out of line, he's there, ready to talk about how he's been a 'good' and 'non-interfering' parent and that it's poor of pat to not respect him and his wishes.
and you can see how much it distresses pat too, to have to hear that. sure he's favoured over pa (and i have my qualms with that) but by no means does pat have it easy bc his father always sets conditions for his love and validation. he's unused to disappointing his father bc so far he's always been trying to match up to his expectations.
this is genuinely some of the shittiest parenting a kid can be subjected to.
aoki sota’s face is a work of art kieta hatsukoi eps 1&2 || for @abrandnewpokedex
+ bonus - an actual masterpiece:
i can't stop thinking how much of a conscious effort changing pran's look was in ep 5 bc he really does look the Prettiest he has in the series and its all thru pat's eyes. just the thought of p'aof having the makeup team spend a little extra time on him so the audience would be able to fully live thru pat's experience makes me smile like. i really wonder how thoroughly they thought things out and i wouldn't put this beyond them considering how drastically different this ep has made our viewpoints on all the other characters.
It's weirdly pleasant to be able to hug you like this. You used to hug me a lot. It's not the same—you were just a friend back then. So, what am I now?
Pat adjusting himself so Pran could feel comfortable enough to deal with his own feelings will be forever one of the best things a BL series ever gave us. It shows how much in love he is and how much he cares about Pran's feelings and pace. They both knows they like each other, but Pat also knows Pran needs a reason to face, without fearing it, this new path their relationship took, so he gave him exactly this.
Yu Zhen & Shi Lei always ending up in bed together
A small Bad Buddy meta
After much reading and rewatching I just had to say...
We see pat use the four signs on ink and then see pa use it too. What stood out for me was that while they thought they were using it to test the other person's feelings, they were unwittingly using it on themselves. And we see the dichotomy so clearly, because pa confirms her own feelings in the process while pat doesn't respond to those signs himself. I've seen a lot of y'all say how he wasn't too disappointed when ink didn't react but note he didn't react either and he must have realised that. That the feelings he once felt weren't exactly the same and we see him wonder a bit as to what changed.
He's contemplating this when he's at the instrument shop and pran arrives and automatically realises. Here we see him use the signs not on pran but on himself! It just shows how he understood that the signs are better when used on oneself because only you truly know how you feel about someone, whereas the other person may not openly react to your signs. And this is proven by how pran nor ink reacted when the signs were used because they were both repressing and hiding their crushes, obviously they are not going to let on that they have feelings, they were anyway finding it difficult to do so(pran in the hallway when pat gives him his guitar...his face was such a giveaway and ink at the restaurant with pa ..again her face after pa helped her with the dirt in her eye was telling)..so both have their guards up.
So here pat notices how he himself reacts to pran in the context of how their relationship has been going and it sort of falls into place. It explains not just his behaviour but also pran. Because pran could easily cut him off and not associate at all with him, he could have moved out of the form if he actually wanted to..the only reason he is staying then and keeping up their secret association must be because of something pat is just coming to put his finger on. Its here he realises that they shouldn't even be friends with the way their families work and now he questions..what exactly are they? And we see that so beautifully communicated at the end of the episode on the rooftop.
Coming back to pat noticing him response to the four signs...he notices his feelings now and the only reason he hasn't so far was because he probably didn't think it was possible.....for him to like also like boys and for that boy to be pran. But that's why we get the flashbacks and all the things they went through in high school to show that pat always did like pran but he never got a chance to explore those feelings and because he never expected them. What is so amazing and one of the highlights of this show, is that he doesn't for one moment grudge himself his feelings. He doesn't beat himself up or question it, he accepts that sexuality is fluid and understands that he can like whoever he wants. This says so much about his character and it was at this point at which we all fell for pat (cause by then we were all already gone for pran) and it was after this that the "walking green flag" posts started showing. The way in which they portrayed Pat's character arc was so true to a realistic experience of understanding fluid sexuality, I cannot stop applauding.
the very first time.
THE ECLIPSE [2022] | EP. 11
two things i really loved about this episode:
1) pat actively encouraging and urging pran to talk to him
that is one of his characteristics that i absolutely adore i admire. he understands that communication is key – whether it was trying to figure his feelings out, or after their fight in ep. 5, or after pran ran away after the kiss – he was always there, knocking on pran’s door, ready to talk to him. and it wasn’t any different during the beach trip. he knew that pran’s overthinking and he knew how to approach him and he knew to write ‘kiss?’ in the sand instead of saying it out loud, but that only goes so far if he doesn’t even know what the real issue is. like he said “if you don’t say it, how will i figure it out? how can i possibly understand you?” he might know how pran works, but he can’t actually read his mind and he can’t help him if pran is avoiding him and giving him the silent treatment. so he tried. he tried his best to let pran know that he doesn’t have to shut him out. that whatever is going on with him, he can talk to pat. he really said i’m here, talk to me, we’re in this together, we’ll figure it out
2) pat’s relentless and unwillingness to back down so easily
so far, we saw pran being brave and putting himself out there, ready to risk getting his heart broken for pat numerous times. and now we get to see pat doing the same. the lengths he went to just so he could show pran that he won’t give up on them? constantly going up to him in front of his friends?? almost getting beaten up by wai?? showing up at his HOUSE??? he was ready to push all the limits and didn’t care about the consequences. because none of that matters to him anymore. what matters is pran.
and that is exactly what pran needed to see. i mean, he’s terrified. he’s already lost so much just because he and pat were friendly. he literally had to transfer schools and give up playing music just because his mom found out he and pat were in the same band. so, can you imagine what will happen if their parents find out they’re dating? all hell will break lose. and pran knows that. and he knows he doesn’t want to risk losing it all again because, this time, so much more is at stake. i feel like he was fine being the one to get the thick end of things the last time (like he said to pat, he doesn’t hate him for it, he doesn’t resent him, he’s just angry, and not even at pat, but the situation itself) because it was a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things. yeah, he had to move and his mom was angry, but at least no one found out about his feelings for pat. at least pat got away unscathed. but now, if people find out that he still has feelings for pat, if they find out that pat has feelings for him, if they act on it, the ramifications are going to be so much bigger. so much worse. and you bet pran’s going to do everything he can do avoid that. he’ll do anything he can to protect both of them.
but what he doesn’t understand is that he doesn’t have to protect them. he doesn’t have to do anything on his own anymore. because pat is here now and he wants pran back just as much. and by going against everything they know, by repeatedly risking being seen with pran in public, by facing PRAN’S MOTHER he’s showing pran that he knows the dangers and he knows the consequences, but he doesn’t care. he’s willing to stand up to their families, to their destiny, to the entire world because that is how much he cares about pran. that is how much he means to him. he’s ready to do whatever it takes to fight for them. but he can only do it if pran’s going to be right there next to him every step of the way
Still not over how that scene was improvised ..
No estaba en el guión
