β¨ !!! HYPERFIXATIONS COLLIDE !!!β¨
Iβm weeks late but the minute I heard my absolute beloved Auroraβs latest song βConflict of the Mindβ I knew what I had to do. Itβs a song that deeply moves me, I relate to it a lot but it also feels so much like something Artemis or Angeline would feel but never say out loud.
It was my first time drawing with an actual reference image (from the music video which you must absolutely check out if you havenβt seen it already), it was pretty fun and I do like the end result, even though shadows still prove to be my ultimate nemesis.
Yes I've read that !! It's from KitsuneHeart right ? I've said in my first half-goblin Holly post that I was inspired by her :) I love her essay, I agree with all of her points. The People has a real racial bias problem (not to mention being a "pacifist" police-run society) and I feel like it should be addressed more.
Holly is skeptical π€¨
Struggling to make digital watercolor work, but Iβm quite happy, and enjoying the journey.
π€ Character you least understand?
Thatβs such a tricky question to answer, depending on how you interpret βunderstandβ. Thank you for asking ! After pondering for a bit, I think Iβll say Artemisβ grandfather. What I donβt understand about this person, is why we know so absolutely little about him, when he should be SO important to explain why Tim became Tim, and thus how Artemis became Artemis. The little we do know about this grandfather just feels off and weird to me. Basically, heβs only truly mentioned three times : - In book 1, Angeline mistakes Artemis for his grandfather, and talks to him extremely fondly and casually, even calling him (in the French version at least) by the most informal term possible to adress a grandparent/FIL ; indicating a very warm and soft relationship ? Though it might just be her psychotic episode distorting the actual truth of how they interacted ? - Then Tim, in TEC, claims that his father only treated him as a businessman and barely knew him as a person ; if his relationship with his father was so cold and distant, why would Angeline show this man such kindness, when we know how fierly protective she is of the ones she loves ? - And then, in TAC Artemis recalls a fond memory of spending time in his grandfatherβs workshop. Sure it might be Angelineβs father in this memory but I donβt think it is. I feel like Timβs father deserved to be a much more prominent, menacing shadow, even being long dead before the start of the first book. I would have loved to know more about him (like, I donβt know, a name would have been nice ^^β), but thatβs also just me wanting to know more about the Fowl family in general. The good thing here at least, is that there is such little lore that it gives a lot of leeway for headcanons π And oh, how many do I have about this man π
@a-c-u-l-o-s your wish is my command : here are Patate and Raclette ! Also bonus Patate brooding our potatoes stock like they are her eggs.

On top of May being mental health awareness month, itβs also BPD (Borderline personality disorder) awareness month. I donβt even have enough words to describe what it feels like living with BPD. It has been my tool to survival and will eventually be my demise. Life with BPD is the hardest. You are emotionally fucked. You are toxic to everyone you come into contact with. Everyday is a struggle. Every hour is a caution tape. Living with it is like living in a gas chamber that is slowly leaking toxic fumes. Your breath is always caught. Your tears are always flowing. Even with therapy and medication for the symptoms, there is so much left to deal with. It never really goes away. At a moment's notice you can change feelings from βI love youβ to βI hate youβ. Having someone love you feels fake. Like you are never going to be loveable. That no one could ever love you. Youβre too much of a burden. Too damaged to be loved. BPD is from trauma. And well, I have generations of it. No matter how much I try, no matter how much I grow it never feels enough. Emotions feel like suicide. Thoughts scream too loud. Demons control you like a puppet unable to run away. Hallucinations come and go. You really never know when they'll come or go. Sometimes the episodes will be minutes, others months. Distance or slightest voice change feels like abandonment. Happiness or peace feels like an illusion. Losing someone is like the world is the knives across your skin. Anger feels like jumping off a cliff. Every time someone tries to comfort or love you feels like a trick. You either feel alone or feel like a god. Living with BPD is the hardest thing to live with. It's comparable to giving my children up for adoption. Either youβre high on top of the galaxy or youβre at rock bottom over and over in a vicious cycle. We are so stigmatized. People think we are βticking time bombsβ. Hell Iβve even had therapists leave or deny me because of it. For all of my borderlines out there, you deserve love. You deserve happiness. You canβt just cope, you have to heal. It will take every ounce of self control and inner power to get through each episode. But I promise you when you find peace, true peace youβll know what Iβm talking about. Your trauma does not make you. You are not your trauma. You are not crazy. You are not a burden. Just hang tight, weβve got this.Β
What do you do when you get an iPad for the first time ? Doodle a little Artemis of course ! Heβs sad and mischievous, I donβt really like it Procreate is a struggle, but meh. Heβs my precious πβ¨
Oh dear oh dear. So many things. Here's just a lil snippet : > Artemis still wears suits (sorry fowlblue), but more... vintage ones. I want him to acknowledge that everyone sees him as that "creepy ghost of a Victorian child" and go "oh? alright then" and show up at work looking like a full-on scary baby dandy, most notably ditching the tie for a lavalliΓ¨re (pinned down with a golden Celtic fibula, maybe?) and the loafers for leather laced boots. The vibes? Immaculate. > More acknowledgment that the fairies folklore is Artemis long-standing special interest/hyperfixation since early childhood that even his father's disapproval (bUt mAgiC iSn'T ReAl gRoW uP) couldn't shut down. That child is deeply autistic and it seems like a not too obnoxious and cute way to show it. > MORE π ANGELINE π AND π MENTAL π ILLNESS π > MORE π JULIET π ARTEMIS π FRIENDSHIP π SIBLING-LIKE π RIVALRY π BANTER π TOUGH LOVE π Now for the fairies: > Half-goblin Holly for the win !! Already developed a bit of her backstory in a prev post, but so much fun stuff to alter in the books with that concept. She lives in a goblins neighborhood were only the kids like her, all the adults think she's a traitor and a sell-out. At work she's not as much harassed for being a woman, but almost all the officers hiss-hiss-hiss when they walk past her. Book 2 changes massively, because Holly is absolutely torn by the B'wa Kell rebellion, she feels like she should choose sides but doesn't want to. Artemis can bond with her on being branded as a criminal just because of your birth certificate. I repeat : Artemis can bond with her on being branded as a criminal just because of your birth certificate. > Let the fairies be just as judgmental, racist as they are in the books, but let them be called out on it and damn, just explore it. They call themselves pacifists yet they are are run by an all-powerful police-state. It's actually an amazing idea but it's just... left there. Explore it ! Corruption and immorality isn't just a humans' problem ! > Justice for the goblins. Everyone believes they are the stupidest fairy family? Fine. Maybe they are - but does that mean they deserve to be treated like inferior beings, only worthy of mockery and disrespect ? Nope. Also, according to who's standards are they the stupidest fairy family ? There are so many forms of intelligence. Maybe theirs just don't correspond to the golden standards of the elves and centaurs but nobody bothered to try and understand that. > More fairy and supernatural folklore from various cultures incorporated ! Banshees, selkies, onryo, aswangs, changelings... So many possibilities ! And bonus round, if I were to adapt AF to the screen (in an animated series because I do believe this is the way) : > Make it a mockumentary true-crime show, from the fairies' POV. Featuring interviews from all the main cast, video and sound archives (from the LEP ? from the Fowl family ?), reconstitutions... hell, even actual memories extracted from the Fowl gang after TEC. Not very ethical I know, but again - a true-crime show. > Controversial take, but I would majorly revamp dwarves. No more dwarves, they just are not a fairy species. Mulch would stay more or less the same character in terms of personality, but I would change his species from dwarf to troll - a nordic troll, the ones that change to stone when hit by the sun and change back at night. Make them a mineral species, that are literally made of dirt, rock and moss - how does Mulch because a burglar then ? Well, he's made of dirt and sand. He can sip through walls. He can shapeshift, maybe. That idea is still very much a WIP, but even though I know it's iconic, I don't thing a farting dwarf can actually translate from books to cinema. I don't see how it can't be anything else but extremely cringe. Let's stop there for now, but yeah. I have a lot of more or less unhinged ideas :D
Yβknow what? Iβm curious, and I wanna talk again-
Fellow AF fans, tell me how you would make Artemis Fowl if you were behind the writing wheel. It can be anything from βJuliet features more heavily in the plotβ to reframing the LEP and fairies as a whole. I want to know!
Iβll give you mine- Iβd make Artemis more interested in magical creatures than tech alone, and Iβd have him wear suits less!

Kevin Aymoz I so hope you found your light again π
When can I see you again? I've been waiting out here for so long and I Don't seem to find the resolve To keep building these castles out of snow
They only melt away When spring is arriving and guilt will be here Waiting to drag me down into your pond
You bury me slowly, you bury me slowly "Take what you can" (Tim) "Give what you don't need" (Angeline) Still I'll let it be known in every parish You are loved, you are loved...
When, Susanne SundfΓΈr
(the bold parts are not the exact lyrics, but what I personally hear)
If Artemis has even only one (1) song that sounds even remotely like that in the musical, to express how he feels about his parents, I'll be a happy woman There is just such a beautifully dark and melancholic undertone throughout this entire book series to me, and I'm so terrified that a musical will not be able to do it justice...
