SFX) and slaps a hand over his mouth. Brudil peeks around the door and sees him. Brudil: Hey, are you all right? Pleht: YEEP! Brudil: It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you. In fact… Brudil grabs Pleht, striking a heroic pose and tearing up. Brudil: …I'll make sure you get out with me unscathed, new friend! Pleht: YACK! Pleht (thinking): THE MONSTER'S GOT ME I'M GOING TO DIE OH PAUBB SAVE ME I KNEW THIS WAS A BAD IDEA I HOPE AT LEAST I'M GOOD EATING BECAUSE I CAN'T GET OUT OF THIS DEATHGRIP I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT KIND OF SPELL COULD SET ME FREE I JUST… NEED… TO TRY… SOMETHING! Pleht has entered the dark corridor. Aggravated, he looks as he keeps failing to conjure more flame (with "flick" SFX). Soon, he puts the flint and steel ring back in his coat. Pleht: Ugh, I'll have to figure this out later. At least I can sort of see the door… He peers forward and sees a door. From the other side come strange noises (with "CHOP!" and "THWACK!" SFX). Pleht: "W-wait, what are those thumping noises?!" Ladybug (from beyond the doorway Pleht came through): chtree? Pleht: Yeep! Pleht moves forward towards the door ahead, hand anticipating a doorknob. Pleht: Then again… He freezes; his outstretched hand has hit the wood (with "thump" SFX). He sheepishly reaches up to the doorknob. Pleht: Heh, r-right, human door.

Like the previous page, this page jumps between Pleht and Brudil's perspectives. Pleht: Right… L-let's try that again… He tucks the ladle into his sleeve. Brudil lifts the axe, pulling it out of her washboard (with "snap!" SFX). Brudil: I was just about to tell you… Pleht has an aura of magic, looking up at the ladybug. From the ladybug's perspective, it looks like the ladle has become a floating metal ball. Pleht: Ooooo… Look at the floating orb… Meanwhile, Brudil has swung the axe overhead, bashing the Bandaged Slugfolk's head with the flat end (with "WHAM!" SFX). Brudil: …TO KNOCK IT OFF! The ladybug happily stares at the floating orb, which the ladle truly has become, hovering between Pleht's fingers. Pleht (thinking): Okay, Pleht, it's working. Just gotta do this right… Ladybug: chlee! Meanwhile, the other Slugfolk is running for aid from the ones lying in wait. Brudil (thinking): Okay, Brudil, just like you practiced… Slugfolk: GUYS! GUYS?! Bandaged Slugfolk: Ugh…

Currently, it’s a little different, but the outline goes like this:
1. Make rough.
2. Solidify panel layout.
3. Solidify dialogue.
3. Make rough sketches.
4. Make speech bubbles.
5. Make lineart, with separate layer of the background lines covering the lines on the base.
6. Colors
7. Shading
8. Other effects.
It’s much easier to manage layers than when I started, and it encourages me to work more quickly to boot!
…later down the line, I mean. I forgot this page was a toughie for me.
Flashing Lights warning, but I figured I’d show a timelapse of how I first made pages, using my first page. With Procreate, though, you have to manage a sometimes strict layer limit, so I now have a more efficient process I’ll show in another post

Brudil: Okay, then… Should've expected some obstacles, I guess… was kinda itching for more than plants, though. Meanwhile, from behind another door, some Slugfolk lie in wait. Slugfolk: Shhh… not yet. Brudil starts to remove and cut the thorny plants with her shovel ("CRACK" and "CRUNCH" SFX show as she cuts into one of them). Brudil: Corpus must've had a heckuva garden. Behind her, the two Slugfolk that watched her are preparing to throw an old, rusted battle axe. They throw it in tandem, hitting Brudil square in the back (with "THOK" SFX). Brudil: YOW! She looks back, still frazzled, but the washboard has protected her; the axe is now embedded in it. She turns around to face the Slugfolk. Brudil: Alright, who did that?
Who is/was Sardon the Beige?
Sardon the Beige is a human wizard who resides in the city of Everteeter. He may or may not appear in the future (faster on my site, wink wink, plug plug), but I will say this: he is considered a great hero (a “gosh”, as Brudil would say), but he is getting on in years and is often visibly tired. If one didn’t know about his mighty deeds, he’d likely be called “lazy” and “reclusive”.

In the world of Dungeon Smalls, is it common for gnomes to go 'adventuring'? Or for goblins to learn magic?
For gnomes, it’s more common to see one only taking on dangerous jobs when necessary. While they are generally one of the more resilient folks around, they tend towards aiding their local community with remarkable persistence. A more common adventure is either a rescue mission or gathering resources from a place that’s dangerous for other folk due to things like poor air quality.
As for goblins, it varies. Goblins in general believe each one of them has a destined ambition (often referred to as “Paubb’s Call” after the god of action). They may not be the best at their passion, but you can reliably guess they will strive for improvement at every turn.
So while anyone could feasibly learn magic, if a goblin feels Paubb’s Call pulling them to spellcasting, they WILL learn it.

I mean, w-who's gonna know? Pleht: Please understand, Mr. Sardon. Magic swirls around his hand as Pleht prepares a piece of flint and a special ring over his thumb. He flicks (with "flick" SFX), but nothing happens. Pleht: Come on, come on, why isn't this working? It worked just fine yesterday! Pleht keeps flicking, but naught but sparks show up. The next three show a swinging axe (with accompanying "WHOOSH!" sfx), several wooden stakes embedded in a wall, one of which has pinned a skull, and purple gas coming out of a vent (with accompanying hiss.." Brudil has lived in the bustling city of Everteeter for as long as she can remember, having been raised by her adoptive orc parents. Since she was a young girl, she was enthralled by stories of heroes and adventurers, both real and invented, and has wished to be a "gosh" herself. She carries her confidence everywhere she goes, from social situations to attempts to protect someone from monsters.
